Hi, first of all forgive my english
I have a an unpleasent problem with my display, it turns dark after 1 minute of no using it.
I have a Satellite, Windows 8, and Toshiba Eco utility. I have tried to change the time when the display turns dark or when the computer shut down in a lot of opportunities in the "Power options" item, i even tried to make my own plan of energy, but nothing works :/ My display still turns dark after 1 minute.
I really need to make it last longer on! D: it's driving crazy
thank you, i really appreciate your help.

  • Yoga display turns off after 1 minute

I'm having an annoying problem with my new Yoga related to the display and have not seen any other posts with a similar complaint so perhaps this is a simple fix that I'm just not able to sort out on my own. My display turns off after 1 minute of inactivity. The only means for changing behavior like this that I am aware of is through the Control Panel Power Options. My settings for "turn off the display" are 10 minutes on battery and Never while plugged in (note screen shot attached). Regardless of my settings, the screen turns off after 1 minute. I've changed the settings to multiple configurations and restarted with no change in behavior. Perhaps there's some other settings area, maybe something specific to Lenovo that I'm not aware of (since this is my first Lenovo laptop). Anyone with similar problems or insight?

This may be a Windows 8 issue. I finally fixed this problem by identifying the screen saver as the issue (and I wasn't using a screen saver). Type "lock the computer" into the search box after clicking the search charm, which brings up the screen saver dialog box. Mine was set to 1 minute, though I'd never set it myself. If you can't change it, choose a screen saver and you should be able to do so (and can then switch back to no screen saver). BUT, here's the problem. Other things you install (or settings within things you install) can apparently change and override whatever you type in for the delay time. Try applying your new time and exiting from the dialog box, then open it back up again. I was finding that it kept going back to 1 minute. To reset things so that you can get control again, type "user accounts" into the search box and when the dialog box comes up, choose "Reset Security Policies". Then you can go back to the screen saver dialog and successfully change the delay time. In the worst case, it's still under warranty (all 7th gen nanos are still under one year from purchase).
So, you disconnect it from power, and it almost immediately goes dead?  You can try a Restore... but it doesn't sound like the type of problem a Restore will fix.
You should probably have it looked by Apple Tech Support.  If there's an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the store's Genius Bar.  To avoid waiting, you can make a reservation at the store's web page

  • T42 Display turns off after moving

    Hello everybody!
I´ve got a problem with my Thinkpad T42 (2373fwg), XP prof. with the latest updates running. After installing the latest drivers for display (ati) and for "ThinkVantage Active Protection System " the display turns off immediately after moving the Thinkpad. I can turn the display on again only by reboot. The error appears even in a second after reboot, so it doesn´t concern to windows. The system doesn´t crash, it´s only the display. The problem might concern to the shock sensor, but I don´t know how to solve it.
Does anyone of you has an idea?
    Thank you and kind regards
    Bill

I have a similar problem: T42 (2373-5wg) Screen blanks. At first screen blanking was rare and seemed to happen when moving the pc, but now the screen blanks within 1-3 minutes after turning on the laptop, even if the computer is left untouched after being turned on.
It is not OS related as the blanking appears even when in BIOS setup or booted on a liveOS CD.
I can't tell for sure if the system crashes or not as the display goes blank (doh!), however, I have seen no reports of registered crashes in the visible part of the boot process.
The screen blanking appears quicker (or even instantly) if the computer is warm (e.g. turned off just before being turned on).
Blanking appears simultaneously on the LCD and on any attached external monitor, so I believe this rules out a defective LCD, backlight or inverter board.
I'm thinking it's a failing graphics adapter or system board, or maybe a loose connection that causes a component to overheat and fail. But I don't know which or how to fix it.
It IS out of warranty, of course. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Niels
EDIT: It seems this could be yet another case of badly soldered BGA chips that seems to be troubling the T4x series:

  • Display quite dark after some seconds and stays da...

The display gets quite dark after some time (10 seconds?),
eg. during internet surfing or email checking, even if the light sensor is in MAX position. Also removing the hand or the fingers away from the screen (light sensor coverage) the display stays too dark....until I close this app (with the function key), the display gets bright again, unfortunately the app (eg. internet) then is closed :-(

But there I can't make any changes. If I do so, it changes the profile to "own settings" automatically. But I wannne keep the "normal" and "higher perfomance" settings.
And by the way; I can't change the time, the display shades. Only if it does or not. "Lower monitor brightness automatically befor go to standby", and if I would disable it, I would change the profile as written above - and that's not what I want.
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)
I just want to increase the time the display gets darker.

  • Display Turns Off After Opening Computer

I have a very annoying problem of my display turning off and not turning on until I restart my Macbook Pro by holding down the power button.
For example, I will close my computer (power cord not plugged in) and it will go to sleep. If for some reason the computer turns on while it is still closed (this happens when I pick it up/move it around sometimes) and I then open the computer, the display will be on momentarily and then turn off leaving me with a black screen. The only way to turn the display on again is to restart my computer.
Another example: I might close the computer with the power cord in. I will then unplug the computer (still closed) and walk somewhere, then open the computer. The display will be on for a few seconds and then turn off, leaving me again to restart my computer.
The third example is the worst. Sometimes with the power cord still in, sometimes with no power cord, the display will just be blank when I open the computer.
With all of the above occurrences, I know the computer is running because I can see the caps lock key light change when I press it.
Does this make any sense? Please help me, I will be going to college on Tuesday and I would really like to have it so I don't have to restart my computer every time before class.
My display was not always this way, it has just been like this for a few months.

  • Satellite P850 display turns off after only minute or two of inactivity

    Hi,
I have my Display settings set to turn off display after 1 hour when on power and 10 minutes when on battery.
I have a screen saver set up to go on after 10 minutes.
However, my display often (but not always) turns itself off after only a minute or two of inactivity.
Can anyone explain this weird behavior?
It starts up immediately I move the mouse but I just don't like things happening that I haven't scheduled.
    Thanks.
    Hoges

    Hi
Could it be possible that you changed the settings in the power profile which is not in use?
I mean in case another application like ECO Utility would control the display brightness, the changes in Windows power plant would be useless.
Toshiba ECO Utility for example contains some settings like dim display after
I think you should check this utility

  • Air Display Turns Off After 10-15 mins - Why? What's the fix?

I recently upgraded to OSX10.8 on my early 2012 mac mini. I have been using AirDisplay as my screen.
I've run into an problem. The AirDisplay prefpane now turns itself off after 10-15 mins if its not being used. It also doesn`t activate on reboot.
This is obviously a problem as I don‘t have a monitor.
I started to use logmein instead, but its not ideal as its mouse isn’t quite as usable (it works in the current release after many months of bugs and patchy performance).
I've been going back and forth with Avatron for a few weeks (they've been very supportive), and they proposed two solutions:
Uninstall / reinstall using a newly downloaded package
Delete the hidden com.avatron preference files
    Neither has worked.
I also made a rather pathetic to write an applescript to select the menu app item "Turn Air Display On" , but I didn't really know what I was doing (here's my poor effort below). As I didn‘t get this working when the menu option was available, I didn’t proceed.
    tell application "System Events"
set UI_Enabled to UI elements enabled
              tell application process "AirDisplayStatusItem"
              entire contents
                   tell menu bar 1
                        tell menu bar item 1
click menu item "Turn Air Display On"
                        end tell
                   end tell
         end tell
    end tell
get entire contents of application process "AirDisplayStatusItem" returns
    --> {menu bar 1 of application process "AirDisplayStatusItem", menu bar item 1 of menu bar 1 of application process "AirDisplayStatusItem"}
    Result:
error "System Events got an error: Can’t get menu item \"Turn Air Display On\" of menu bar 1 of application process \"AirDisplayStatusItem\"." number -1728 from menu item "Turn Air Display On" of menu bar 1 of application process "AirDisplayStatusItem
Has anyone any ideas on how to resolve this?

  • Display remains dark after wakeup

The last few times I have awakened my four-year-old iBook G4 12" from sleep, the screen has flashed on briefly (just a flash), then gone dark again--not full black but nearly. The On light on the edge of the case remains lit, and I assume that the CPU and hard drive are working. No amount of key pushing will get the screen to come on, and the only way I can get it back is to turn the machine off with the button, wait a minute or so, and then use the button to turn it back on. At that point everything works OK, except that Word is disposed to crash. I have reset the power management system so that I can leave my work for a few minutes without having to worry about Sleep, and taken to turning the machine off when I quit for the day. I am concerned, however, that the problem may signal something even nastier lying in wait. The hard drive is relatively new--15 months. Any advice?

    Drama,
The last few times I have awakened my four-year-old iBook G4 12" from sleep, the screen has flashed on briefly (just a flash), then gone dark again
So how was it that you were putting the iBook to sleep? Via the Apple command or closing the lid?
    --not full black but nearly.
So it's really dim but you can still see the desktop?
The On light on the edge of the case remains lit, and I assume that the CPU and hard drive are working.
Do you have the mini VGA adapter and another monitor to hook up?
The On light on the edge of the case remains lit, and I assume that the CPU and hard drive are working.
If you attached an external monitor that would also verify if that was the case.
I have reset the power management system
    Like this?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Have you done a "deep reset?" Pulling all power and letting it sit for 10 minutes after PMU reset.
I've also seen the super cap that holds settings on the PMU blow up and leak out.
Not exactly sure what the symptoms of that problem would be but I've replaced them with units from Electronics Goldmine. They're .22 F at 5.5 Volts. I had to mod them to make it work.

  • Screen will turn dark after start up

My screen will show the apple and clock turning after powering on then the screen goes dark but I can still see and move the cursor. Can anyone help?

    Howdy Marsha0930,
Is your Mac showing a gray screen with a spinning gear? If it is, this would indicate a startup issue which can be resolve by trying the suggested resolutions in the article below.

  • Display turns black after every 30-40 seconds

my display suddenly turns black during work! It happens about every 30-40 seconds. Then I have to press to lower the F1 Botton 2 or 3 times and then the F3 Buttonn several times until the light comes back. What happened? How can I fix this problem, which came after several days pause/standby?

    Hey lubr,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your internal display. The following resource may provide a solution:

  • LED display went dark after iSight picture taken...

    Hi there,
Strangest thing just happened. I took a photo from the iSight camera on my MBP and immediately after the flash, the LED screen went dark. I could still (barely) see what was on the screen, at least enough to shut it down, and then when I started it back up, it was fine. Has anyone else heard of this happening?
    Thanks!

Yeah, that happened to me tonight too (MBP, about a month old). I rebooted, did again, and no issues. Quirk of somekind I guess.

  • MBP Display turns black after login

    Hi,
When I wake up my MBP (15'' 10.4.10, Core duo, ATI Radeon), login, the screen
sometimes (may be every 4th time) turns black, but the MBP seems to be awake.
When I put it to sleep and wake it up again, it works fine. This seems to happen
more often after using a video projector.
May be the password was entered incorrectly, may be not. But it did not turn back
    to the login screen either.
I don't have this issue with my iMac (different use though).
    Any advise?
    Thanks,
    Dirk

Your issue sounds like the same issue i have on my 17" MBP. Are you waking then having to log in to wake from a screensaver?
I have my computer set to ask for authentication after it wakes and every once in a while, i'll wake my computer, and the authentication window immediately pops up, i proceed to put my password in then it goes back to black, although sometimes, it will the show the mouse cursor.
I dunno what happens, but I have noticed that when I do wake it up, the optical drive (i think) makes a noise as if it were reading, and that's usually when i get the black screen.
Anyone have any fixes? Could this be a video driver or hardware issue?
