Display Turns Off Even When Set to Stay on
I'm running Lion on my Macbook. I've set the energy settings to never turn off in power adapter mode, but it still turns off after approx. 5 minutes. Is there another place where this setting needs to be configured? This is causing me problems when leaving the computer to do a lengthy process such as compiling a slide show movie. Thanks in advance.

My ipod stills pauses when the display turns off, even though, my headphones are correctly attached (or flushed)
Does this happen still when you use another set of headphones? Have you check to make sure the headphone jack is clean and clear of debris? If so, the jack may be faulty or damaged meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service/repair.

light on iphone4 flash will not turn off even when phone is powered down, now it is overheated and says not usable till cooled, but it won't cool. I'm afraid it will start a fire. Aside from breaking it, putting in in a metal pail in the yard, or putting it in a bucket of water, what can be done to keep it from setting a fire. It is so hot it burns my skin if i touch it, so bright, it hurts to look at, so hot there is now a warning that it is not usable till it cools down, but there is no way to cool it down.
more info, this happened after update to 7.0.2, and also wifi will no longer turn on since update. I took it in to apple store, it had one month left on warrenty, and they said that it would have had to get wet for this to happen. I thought that maybe it got wet through my jeans pocket in the rain or something so I didn't pursue it. Now of course, it is out of warranty by a month.

My ipod naaIno is stuck in the lock position, my hold switch will not turn off even when I move it. I have tried restoring it and resetting it and it still comes back on in the hold/locked postion. It will only play when placed on a docking station and then I cant scroll to pick songs, I can only go to next song using buttons on docking station.
You will need to have the hold switch replaced.

I've found a little issue in Android...
In my application I download some files the first time it's run. Since it takes a couple of minutes without user input, the screen turns off automatically. I've found some tablets not only turn off the screen but also interrupt the download altogether when going to sleep, so to avoid this I'm using this to prevent the screen from turning off (is there any other workaround to prevent downloads being interrupted by sleep?):
NativeApplication.nativeApplication.systemIdleMode = SystemIdleMode.KEEP_AWAKE;
Of course, I've also added the WAKE_LOCK and DISABLE_KEYWARD permissions to my app descriptor, so the above code works. The problem is that I don't want the app to stay awake all the time, so after the download finishes, I'm setting the screen back to normal with:
NativeApplication.nativeApplication.systemIdleMode = SystemIdleMode.NORMAL;
But after executing that, the screen goes off immediately, instead of waiting for a minute or so before dimming the screen. It's as if the dimming was triggered already during the download process, but didn't actually happen because of the KEEP_AWAKE setting, and then when switching to NORMAL, the screen dimming takes place immediately so it turns off.
Is this an intended behaviour or should I file a bug?
How can I manage to set the systemIdleMode to NORMAL but still have the screen on waiting a bit before going to sleep? Turning off the screen as soon as the download is finished is confusing for the user, who might think the app has frozen when it's really just in sleep mode (and the user has to unlock the screen before going back to the app).
This happens in just about any version of AIR 3.x (and probably below).
Also, it happens in iOS as well, but it's less dramatic because the screen just dims a little (app is still visible) when setting systemIdleMode to NORMAL, instead of turning off completely and locking the screen, which is the behaviour in Android.undereyes wrote:

What do you mean? That it doesn't happen in iOS 6.0 anymore? What do you mean with "me app lock"? Please, elaborate -

My iPod automatically turns off, even when it is FULLY charged!!! :(
Before I go to school, I let my iPod charge over night so then on my way to school && back I can listen to it.
It's FULLYcharged and after I listen to 2 or 3 songs it just turns off. Somtimes it says "low battery pleaese connect to computer". (Remember, it's still fully charged!)Even when I turn it back on it eventually does it again.
What's wrong!Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.

Macbook turns off even when energy saver preferences are set to stay on
Hi all,
I would consider myself fairly experienced with OS X now but this has really got me. I am trying to leave my Mac on during the night, so I made sure that the energy saver preferences are set so that:
Computer sleep: Never
Display Sleep: Never
Put the hard disks to sleep when possible: Not ticked
Wake for network access: Not ticked
Automatically reduce....: Not ticked
Start up automatically: Not ticked
So as you can see it should have no reason not to stay on over night. Also I am using the power adapter.
Please if anyone could help it would be really appreciated. ThanksSo, what if anything is set under the "schedule" option in energy saver (which is the only energy saver option normally likely to actually shut it down, rather than send it to sleep, but not mentioned in your post)?
Does the shut down occur at a set time or erratically? (Check your logs to find out, if you haven't been awake when the shutdown occurs). You should also be able to tell from the logs whether it is a controlled shut down or a "crash"
Cheers

I am changing to iCloud on my iMac, MacBook Air and my iPhone. My iMac and MacBook both moved over to iCloud but my iPhone when I go to Settings and click on iCloud it shows my Mail setting turned Off. When I turn it on it wants me to create a new email address to turn on iCloud Mail. I already have to "me" accounts plus another email address and don't want to create another one. I don't understand why it's asking me to do this on my iPhone but didn't ask on my iMac or MacBook and is there a way around creating another @me.com email address?

Why does computer improperly eject my Western Digital (My Book for Mac) external hard drive when display turns off. And how do I stop this from happening.
Yosemite 10.10.2
27 inch iMac
3.2 GHz processor
intel core i5Your External Western Digital usually has Utilities from the company that can be downloaded from their site@http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=133&sid=157&lang=en
run their scan for errors and post back. Also do you have Time Machine always running at time of incident? -
Display turns off when i am talking
Display turns off when i am talking (emidiatly) - when conversation is terminated display is working back again - if i plugin headphones evrything work fine
I restored the device twice nothing helps. The display is supposed to turn off when you hold the phone to your ear (so your ear doesn't touch any controls). If it happens when you are not holding it to your ear this usually means that your case is covering the sensor that turns it off when you hold it to your ear.

Macbook display turns off when booting Snow Leopard DVD
I have mid-2009 Macbook Pro and I hate Mountain Lion. I want to do a clean install of Leopard using the DVD (grey) that came with my computer. I loaned it to a friend recently and he had no issues. But everytime i try to boot from the SL DVD (hold C at startup) it behaves normally, until about the time it would go into the DVD startup screen. At that point the display turns off (not the whole computer, just the display) as if it has gone to sleep. And I can't get it to turn on again. I've also tried booting and holding Option and choosing the DVD as the boot drive. No dice.
Awhile back I created a Lion install DVD. I can boot to it just fine. But i don't want Lion either. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks!Press control shift eject, then any key to toggle the display from sleep/wake.

Windows 8.1 Screen Locking at Display Turn Off (instead of only at Sleep)
Hi All,
I am having this issue with clients running Windows 8.1 Enterprise, which we are planning to deploy later on this summer.
We currently have a GPO setup for managing the power settings on our staff computers:
This GPO sets computers to sleep after 1 hour, but turn off the monitor after 5 minutes of inactivity
On our Windows 7 systems, the policy applies correctly and if our staff uses their computer before 60 minutes of inactvity (before they go to sleep),
the screens will just turn back on without prompting for login.
I have noticed however on our Windows 8.1 test computers, in the same OU, which receive this policy, that after 5 minutes when the screen goes off, if a staff member attempts to use their computer they will be prompted for a password even though the
unit was not in sleep mode.
Further more, I've noticed that on the Windows 8.1 Systems, I am able to override the "Require a Password on Wakeup" setting using the metro interface, as pictured below (the setting does change in power options as seen below), and does stay in
the No setting even if I run gupdate and reboot.
Any idea how to keep the Require Password for waking up, but not just for computer with the screen powered down?
(I should also not screen savers are not being used)Hi,
You can tried also set the item Sleep: After 60 min to see what's going on.
On my laptop, once I configure this, the display turns off without lock the computer.
