DIsplay variable setting ReflectionX in Bash shell

Everyone,
Can somebody help me with setting display variable for running Configtool in ReflectoinX in Bash shell.
Appreciate your time. Thanks.

> It looks like it will work..only thing is that we need to set display variable..i assume.
If you logon as <sid>adm then no DISPLAY (or other variable) must be set if you use XDMCP.
> I am doing sudo for opening a java tool which needs x window..other x windows like visual admin is working fine but for configtool, i am getting this error saying display variable is not set.
That's what I was saying - do not switch users (sudo, su etc.) - that will delete the environment and invalidate .Xauthority.
> I am not given the <sid>adm password, can i just use X window with sudo OR do i need to get the <sid>adm password to start the configtool..
In that case I would not use XCMCP to connect but a pure telnet, do sudo and then set the DISPLAY to
<your-IP>:<reflection-display>. the latter can be found when open Reflection in the lower part of the configuration window.

  • Display variable setting in Solaris 8

    Hi guyz,
    I am using the telnet session to start the application. In this case, I can't able to start because of Display variable setting.
    My problem is, I can telnet from my localsystem to the Server-A. Only from Server-A, I can telnet to Server-B where my applications are.How to set Display settings in this case?
    Please help me guyz.
    With regards,

    Hello,
    how to set a variable depends on the shell. If you use the command 'uname -n' it will return the name of your system, which can in turn be resolved to the ip-address.
    C-shell (csh) setenv `uname -n`:0.0
    Bourne-shell (sh) set DISPLAY=`uname -n`:0.0; export DISPLAY
    Korn-shell (ksh) export DISPLAY=`uname -n`:0.0
    Best regards

    why do i need a display variable set to transform fmb to xml with a shell script (frmf2xml.sh) ?

    Hi DrClap,
    I just wanted to check with you whether I understood your comment correctly.
    It's not possible to directly specify a physical file location path, like it is specified for HTTP URL +<c:import url= http://...+, that would internally/automatically convert in one of the form - Reader, Source, Document, String.
    It can only be produced/specified explicitly in one of the form - Reader, Source, Document, String.
    Am I correct in my understanding?

  • What is proper setting for DISPLAY variable?

    Newbie to X here....
    I'm ssh'd into my RHEL 5.4 system (64 bit) and get the following error from "./runInstaller" as the oracle user.
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using '172.21.52.87:0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
    at sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment.initDisplay(Native Method)
    at sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment.<clinit>(Unknown Source)
    As root, I started the vncserver via "vncserver".
    I've tried the running "runInstaller" with the DISPLAY variable set to 172.21.52.87:0.0 and as 172.21.52.87:0 but keep getting this error.
    Am I suppose to connect to this server in another way other than ssh? If so, what's recommended?
    TIA,
    John

    Hello John,
    here is a procedure how I usually start a X11 GUI:
    1) Start Xming which can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/
    2) Connect to the server with the settings as shown
    http://www.oratoolkit.ch/images/otn/puttyX11Config.png
    3) execute xhost resp. ./runInstaller
    that's all! ;)

  • DISPLAY variable in R12 Forms/Web tier

    Hello everyone,
    Just wanted to clarify something about the DISPLAY variable in R12 Forms/Web Tiers.  Is it necessary to have DISPLAY variable set to an active X session(Vnc) server session on Forms/Web Tiers? I understand that we need to do it for CM/Report/Admin tiers. Please confirm.
    Thanks

    968420 wrote:
    How about Forms/Web tiers?
    It's required is some cases (like the following), and I would recommend having it set on all application tier nodes to the same value.
    s_display -- Required only if you need to access graphs/charts, OLM implementation, ..etc (any page that requires DISPLAY to be set)
    Cannot Play The Course From The Class Details Page (Doc ID 391815.1)
    Receive Error When Attempting To Open A Work Plan Gantt Chart View (Doc ID 306413.1)
    s_forms-c4ws_display -- Required if you have SOA Gateway integrated

  • JMF in Unix-Shell:  No X11 DISPLAY variable was set

    Hello guys
    I've got a client-server application. The server runs on linux and is started in the unix-shell.
    When the server just sends out data which was received before, everything works fine. But when I'm using a processor (or a player) it says:
    No X11 DISPLAY variable was set, but this program performed an operation which requires it.
    How can I avoid this problem?
    Thanks in advance,

  • How to set a display variable

    Hi all,
    we have oracle EBS 12.1.1 installed on suse linux servers in our setup. one developer is using dev tools to have some graphs displayed while generating reports. all of a sudden we find that the graphs are not getting generated.
    i am told that it is because of the DISPLAY variable in Linux. I am working as a Linux admin and I am not too sure how to set it.
    i went to the company's data center to get to the console of the Linux box. I logged into the GUI and ran these commands
    linux-43x3:~ # echo $DISPLAY
    :0.0
    linux-43x3:~ # export DISPLAY=:0.0
    linux-43x3:~ # xhost +
    access control disabled, clients can connect from any hostsince the display was showing :0.0, there sud not v been any issue in my opinion, but still i chose to run the export DISPLAY command.
    still i find the graphs do not show up. should I run the command as root or should I run it as an apps user? and further if I log out of the GUI will the graphs still work?
    i dont have much experience with oracle apps. please excuse me if this question is too silly

    Hi,
    >but still i chose to run the export DISPLAY command.
    No problem if you set DISPLAY:0.0 AGAIN
    should I run the command as root or should I run it as an apps userRun as both users.
    should I run the command as root or should I run it as an apps userIt'll work, Unless you reboot the whole machine.

    Do you have an x-server (such as Exceed or xming) running on your workstation?
    Did you set DISPLAY to the ip of your workstation, not the solaris server?
    DISPLAY is redirecting "x" output to the specified location (your workstation), and there needs to be an x-server running at that location.

  • How to set the DISPLAY variable to run admsi.pl?

    Dear Experts,
    I'm trying to patch Oracle apps R12 using admsi.pl.
    hostname: black

    But I keep getting the error:
    Please set the DISPLAY variable and re-run this script
    This is what I did:
    VIS database and listener are already running.
    login to the linux server as unix user: applmgr
    cd /oapps/applmgr/VIS/apps/apps_st/appl/
    . APPSVIS_black.env

    huh ?
    set | grep -i "display"
    DISPLAY=:0.0
    set | wc

    I notice that there are 36 .env files!
    For applmgr alone!!
    find /oapps/applmgr/ -type f -name "*.env" | wc

    For oracle, there are another 7 .env files!
    find /oapps/oracle/ -type f -name "*.env" | wc

    Did I get the environment (env) file correct?
    Or do I need to run a few more env first?
    If so, which ones?
    What would the order of operations be?
    sqldeveloper has given me problems with Display sometimes.

  • Re: Failed to Start Deployment Server -- X Window DISPLAY variable not set

    I don't know how you have hit that in an normal environment:-( Can you describe what you did? As long as you start the bundled AppServer in the same environment as Creator, both need the DISPLAY set.
    A guess, did you try to install Creator as root and then use it as normal user? Don't do that. Creator is intended to be installed by the user who will use it!
    I know our updated JDK now throws different exceptions when the DISPLAY variable is not set than the one before. I found that (but too late for the release) and have the needed change. But so far I was not aware that any customer had actually hit that. So it was not considered a high enough priority to go into a hotfix. I'll file a CR and the fix will hopefully make it into a patch.
    As a short term workaround for that problem (But I still believe your setup has other problems):
    Go into <Creator_home>/SunAppServer8/lib/ and replace processLauncher.xml with the backup (processLauncher.xml.bak).
    The only thing you will loose, is the little icon in the Gnome/KDE/SystemTray.
    I hope this helps,

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I just realized you are returning 2 variables.  That can still be handled by echoing/printing the values, you just have to parse the output, or use other tricks.
    VALUES=( $(osascript -e '...') )
    This would make VALUES an array, with each array element containing one space separate return value from osascript
    USERNAME=${VALUES[0]}
    MACNAME=${VALUES[1]}
    If USERNAME or MACNAME could have spaces in them, you would need to use some kind of separator character.  For example if you use @ as the separator you could do something like:
    VALUES=$(osascript -e '...')
    USERNAME=${VALUES%@*}
    MACNAME=${VALUES#*@}
    which will %@* will delete everything starting with the @ til the end of the string, and #*@ will delete everything from the beginning of the upto and including the @.
    Another trick is to have the return values be properly formed shell variable assignments such as
    print "USERNAME='your user name' MACNAME='Your Mac Name' " -- I'm making this up as I do not really know Applescript, so you will have to figure out how to get Applescript to print something that looks like
    USERNAME='your user name' MACNAME='Your Mac Name'
    In your shell script you have code that looks like:
    VALUES=$(osascript -e '...')
    eval $VALUES
    The eval will execute whatever is stored in $VALUES, and if that happens to look exactly like shell variable assignments, you get the variables created in the current shell context, where can use them.

    ACC is Java Swing based client UI so it requires a display. Try setting this on the shell where you are starting your server if you are on the same host:
    export DISPLAY=:0.0
    You might want to restart your server after setting this if you want to start ACC in server VM.
    In case you are using PuTTY to tunnel through the UNIX machine then check if "Enable X11 Forwarding" is selected in PuTTY settings. You can find that option under Connection -> SSH -> Tunnels
