Display won't turn back on after battery dies

I have a Macbook Pro Intel Core i7 and am running OSX 10.7.5
Everytime I am using my computer and the battery dies, the display will not turn on after I plug it in again.  I have tried to wait until the computer has charged up a good amount, but when I wake the computer back up after dying, the macbook startup sound plays and the LED light shines bright as if it were on, but no display.  I have also tried click and pressing different buttons on the keyboard to see if this would wake it up, but no success.  I have had to do hard restarts everytime this happens because it is the only way to get my display working again.
Any help is appreiciated.  Thanks!

Reset SMC.

  • IMac display doesn't turn back on after sleep

This is a new problem on my two-year old iMac, and didn't happen before. What is happening with my iMac is that when it goes to sleep and the display turns off, the display doesn't turn back on when I move the mouse, press the keys or the power button.
It happens only after around 12 hours or so of inactivity, it seems. I have to reboot the iMac to force the display to turn back on. I think it is display issue, not the computer lockup because I checked which logs were written in /var/log - system.log was being written until I rebooted the iMac. However, I didn't see any information in there around the same time that I tried to turn the iMac back on.
Any ideas on how to debug the issue.

    Hi dailyjoe
    1. Reset your SMC exactly as instructed in the following article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
    2. It would be normal for you to have to startup your iMac if it lost power while in sleep mode, look at the box "Start up automatically after a power failure" in the Energy Saver preference.
I have always left the box for "Start up automatically after a power failure" unchecked and do occasionally find the iMac is shutdown because the power has gone off. I would suggest leaving the box unchecked, it's better than having the iMac going off & restarting multiple times if you are having bad weather or power issues.

  • Phone shut off and won't turn back on. Battery is not dead. What can I do?

My iphone4 shut off and won't turn back on. The battery is not dead, I tried plugging it in to power and to my computer and connecting to itunes. Nothing works. It is like the phone is just dead. Any ideas?

Plug iPhone into Wall Charger for 10 minutes, it may turn ON itself. If still nothing, keep on wall charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until the iPhone begins to start.

  • When I close my Mac Book when its on a- The display won't turn back on whe-

When I close my Mac Book while it is on and leave it on while closed for long periods of time and then I open it, the display will not turn back on- why?

Does it turn on when you do something like hit a key or click the mouse? Or do you need to restart? If the former, forget about it, except try clearing the pram/nvram. (commandoption+pr on startup till it bongs a few times). If the latter and if the step above didn't work, you've got a problem that might be solved by doing an archive & install.

  • Notebook shut off wont turn back on after battery tapped

I purchased   3 notebooks  all  are doing the same thing. If you set the down on any surface they shut off. One of them will not turn back on. I have switched batteries and charging cords. I don't see it as a recall but it's strange that all 3 are doing the exact same thing. Power cord when plugged in has a white light but no screen will turn on. Tried 2 different batteries and 2 power cords. I have tried just plugging in no battery only power cord and holding down power button, no change.I bought these last November 2014, I never had this problem will my Dell comouters. Anyone have any suggestions?? Very frustrated! These computers are barely used and don't leave the house, they are not abused.

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I read your post on the HP Support Forums and see that you are having issues with 3 Notebook PC's. I understand that one of the Notebook PC's will not turn on at all, and the other two shut down if you set them on a surface. I  would be happy to assist, I just need your Model Numbers (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) and Which Windows Operating Systems you are running.  In the meantime, you could try some HP Troubleshooting documents.  I am going to give you all three versions of the Computer does not start HP document as I am unsure of the Operating System you are running at this time. Computer Does Not Start (Windows 7), Computer Does Not Start (Windows 8), Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10).  Have you tried performing a hard reset?Have you tried to do a Hardware Test? Are you receiving any error messages? Are you receiving any LED lights flashing or Beep Codes? If so, here is a document called HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code.  You had mentioned that you purchased these Notebooks in November 2013. Please check your Warranty Status using the Check Your Product Warranty site. If you are still in warranty, please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number

  • My iPhone 4S won't turn back on after I do the reset

Somehow my iPhone won't charged and I decide to turn off but now I can't turn it back on again... I try everything but still not working...

Reset, hold both the Home and Power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone begins to start. If still problem, and your decide to Restore your iPhone, try DFU Mode Restore. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time.

  • External Display will not turn back on after sleep

Just bought a new MBP last week and gave my wife the MB. I typically attach to an external 24" display and run in closed clamshell mode. I have been doing it for quite some time with no issues. Now with the new MBP if the energy saver kicks in and turns off the display, and/or the energy saver puts the computer to sleep when I attempt to wake it up the display flashes then goes blank. There is no way to turn it back on. When I open the clamshell the internal display will only show some random pixels and a white line at the top of the screen. There is no way to correct it unless I shut down the machine.
I am running with the Nvidia card, not the internal Nvidia. If I manually put the computer to sleep it will wake normally with no screen issues. It will also not act up if the external display is not connected.
Any help or suggestions of a setting I might have wrong that would cause this?

It is a Gateway FHD2400. Connected from mini display to HDMI. My previous MB was connected to the same monitor for the last year with 0 issues. It was connected mini dvi to VGA.
The issue is strange because it only happens when the computer turns off the screen or sleep. When I put it in sleep it doesn't happen.

  • RESOLVED: 2-day old Pavilion 13 x360 won't turn back on after putting it to sleep...

Laptop's been great, I love it, used it for 2 days with no issues.  Today, the battery was getting a bit low and I knew it'd be awhile before I needed it again, so I selected the SLEEP option as opposed to SHUT DOWN or just closing the lid.  Got home, took a look at it, power button flashing slow blue, so I thought, ok, I'll wake it up and get back to work.  First I "wiggled" the mouse, hit space a couple of times, then resulted to hitting the power button.  Nothing.  Power button stops flashing.  Hmmmm.  Dead battery?  So I plugged it in, the amber charging light near the power port lit up, so then I try the power button again.  Nothing-no flash, not a glimmer.  Is there some "secret" way to wake this sucker up or did I just buy a $499.99 piece of landfill?  This is NOT my experience with HP PC's-I love HP.  But what's up here?  Someone PLEASE HELP!  I'm using my ancient HP Pavilion zv5000 XP dinosaur to write this!!
Kindest regards, and thanks for reading,

EDIT:  After about 30 mins. of charging, it gives me a black screen with CHECKSUM INVALID, RECOMMEND REBOOT-HIT ANY KEY TO BEGIN.  So I GUESS I'm ok?  SORRY for jumping the gun-new hardware scares me...  love you guys!

  • Laptop screen won't turn back on after being waked up from pm-suspend

I installed pm-utils and acpid to make my laptop sleep when the lid is shut.
To do this I altered my /etc/acpi/handler.sh to look like this
    http://pastebin.com/9DgQQ30Z
    Changing lines 57, 58 and 59 to:
    button/lid)
    #echo "LID switched!">/dev/tty5
    /usr/sbin/pm-suspend
    esac
The laptop suspends completely fine, and the power light turns from a solid light to flashing. But when I open the lid, the laptop wakes up fine, except for the screen which just stays completely black.
I can't do anything to get it back on, I even can't switch to any virtual terminals, forcing me to to a hard reboot.
This happens also when I just run "sudo pm-suspend" normally with the lid open and use the power button to wake back up. Wakes up fine except for the screen.

First thing that would be helpful to know would be to know what kind of computer you have (e.g. model).
I actually had an identical problem with my laptop. It ended up being an issue with the wireless drivers included in the kernel. Ultimately had to blacklist them and install the ones from the vendor's website. Anyways, start with the model, and we can try to help you from there

  • Display does not turn back on after idle

I have an annoying problem with my MacBookPro that never occurred with my previous MacBook. When I leave it open and idle for awhile and the screen goes dark no trackpad motion or keypress gets the screen to come back on. It just stays black. The only way to restore it is to close the computer, wait a second and then reopen it and the screen recycles back on. This can be disruptive of downloads, etc. and seems to be an unnecessary step. Any fixes?

My iphone won't turn back on after it fell off the charger. When I plug it back into the charger, the screen with the apple icon pops up and it buzzes and just keeps repeating the same two steps. What can I do? Help!

  • MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on.

MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on.  Battery had 41% just before this happened and green indicator on power cord is showing, so it seems like it's charging.  What should I do?

The led on the power adapter should be amber if it is charging.  Green just indicates that it is supplying power to the MBP.
    Try a SMC reset:
