Displaying 320x240 clips in 480x360 movie.

I am combining 320x240 clips with other size clips and vertical photos and want to end up with a 480 x 360 movie. How do I best do this without the 320 clips and being resized larger and looking fuzzy? Can I set the smaller clips and also the vertical photos in a field of black or similar solution?

At import iMovie 6 will scale any source file to the dimensions of your Project. Adding a simple black image file sized to your Project dimensions would allow you to prevent the actual video portion from this scaling.
In an iMovie DV Project the all black image would be sized at 640X480 and your 320X240 QuickTime file would be placed in a "layer" above the black background. You could probably up-size to 400X300 without too much distortion.
Making such a file is a few dozen mouse click using QuickTime Pro. Exporting from iMovie to QuickTime would allow you to create your 480X360 size using the expert settings.

Movie clip inside a movie clip

I'm creating a slideshow with Flash, like the ones done with Powerpoint. I would like to create a movie clip inside another movie clip, that is, say I have a clip called button1, and when I click it, frame number 2 in this clip is displayed, and then more information appears. Inside this frame 2, there are other clips, for example an X button to close and return to frame number 1 in the clip button1, as the image shows:
What I have done is convert the button1 text into a movie clip, and assign an action to it:
on (press){
    gotoAndStop(2);
When frame 2 is displayed, I would like to click to the X-button to get back to frame number1, so what I've done is, again, convert it into a movie clip and assign the following action:
on (press){
    _root.gotoAndStop(1);
But this doesn't work. I've been trying as well changing other things, but no way... At first I thought it had something to do with the _root or _parent, but now it looks as when using gotoAndStop in the "parent" button (button1), no actions work for the "child" buttons.
I've loaded the fla and the swf files here, just in case someone would like to check.

"_root" is only used to reference the very first level of your flash file. Right now you are telling flash to go to the second frame in your root timeline but you want to go to the second frame in your button1 timeline.
Change the code that is on the X-button to
on(press){
     gotoAndStop(1);
Remove the "_root" and it should work.
If it still doesn't work, make sure the button has an instance name of "button1" and use this code.
on(press){
     _root.button1.gotoAndStop(1);
This is using "_root.button1" as the 'address' of your movieclip and it wont matter where the code is.

Browser Problem - Displaying duplicate clips

The browser is displaying duplicates of imported footage, one right on top of the other.
The only way to select the clip is to click beneath it. The marque selection does not work either, it just randomly selects some clips when i click and drag. To select multiple clips, i must shift select each clip, kid of a pain when we trying to log over a 1000 clips today.
Any thoughts? I have tried to display the browser as thumbnails and the it displays it correctly. But when I go back to list view, it shows the same clips duplicated again. When i select a clip and drag it to the timeline, it brings in two of the same clips.
I am running leopard, and using the XDCAM transfer tool from Sony, with a PDW-EX1

Thanks for the replies. It is good to know I am not alone. I think it may be a os 10.5 thing working with Sony's transfer tool. 10.5.2 hopefully will solve all our problems, and give us more problems in return... Oh well.
Solutions:
1.) Deleting the clips and reimporting them. This would work, but since there are no tapes as backup, we have been nervious about missing clips from moving or forgetting to reimport them.
2.) As the clips are importing, move them to bins and out of the main project director within FCP. It seems weird, but the only time the duplicates seem to show up is when there are more than about 15 in the main directory. If you organize them into bins while they are importing, it seems to not be an issue.
Thanks guys for your advice, hopefully we will not need to deal with this for much longer.

Importing 320x240 Clips

Is there any way to import 320x240 clips into iMovie without it blowing them up to 640x480? Like maybe just leaving in the middle and filling in the rest in black or something?
Maybe another utility to pre-process? Quicktime? Anything else?

Thanks for the reply. I've looked at the QuickTime7UserGuide.pdf file and can't see how to do this. There is a section of building a mask to shape the movie, but it is not obvious to me how to do what you've suggested. Can you point me where in the manual this is described?

I did that too, then I did a migration assistant to a new Mac and ALL of my movies have Source Clip Missing now, even though the original clips are still in the iPhoto Videos. I can stand to re edit one or two projects, but not ALL.

Markers on clips don't move with project when switching media drives

Here's an odd one. I'm editing a project in Premiere Pro CS6 and in order to avoid carrying drives back and forth between two editing locations, I cloned the footage drive and have one duplicate drive in each location. I'll call them location A and B.
I have no problem relinking clips when I move back and forth from location to location. That's all working great, as expected.
When I am reviewing clips at edit location A, I've been placing a marker on the hero moments to make them easier to find later when editing. The strange (or perhaps perfectly normal) thing is that when I move to edit location B and relink the clips, all of my markers that I made at location A are gone.
The same thing happens when creating markers on clips at location B. When I move to location A, the markers made at location A are there, but the new ones added at B are gone... until I return to location B.
In other words, it seems like markers are not saved as part of the project, but are saved within each clip file. If that's true, what I'm experiencing would make sense. Even though I'm relinking the clips when I change edit locations, the markers are part of the footage files on each of my duplicate drives and do not move with me when I change locations.
I just wanted to confirm this is "how premiere pro works," or see if there is a preference checkbox or workaround I'm not aware of. Maybe I've found a bug? If this is just how it is, I'll have to come up with an alternate way to mark footage I'm reviewing, or just move the drives with me when I move, which I'd love to avoid.

Wes, my deepest apoligies for not responding to your kind answer sooner. I had moved on, thinking it was just one of those things, until another editor colleague of mine, found my original question recently and emailed me to find out if there was a solution.
It appears that even with Premiere Pro CC, copying the XMP sidecar files to the second media drive remains the answer. Sadly my editor friend did most of his pre-edit clip marking in one city and traveled several states away to begin the edit and when he arrived, all of his marks were, of course, not there.
It would be great if somehow the metadata could be tied to the project, rather than the sidecar XMP files. Perhaps not technically feesible, but it would certainly make more sense from an editing standpoint to not have to be copying sidecar files every time you move to a edit location with duplicate media drives.
I will most likely write a feature request to see if this can be achived in future versions of Premiere.

I'm doing a school project and making a movie trailer and i need to take clips from a movie on my itunes and put it onto imovie so i can take clips from the movie. HELP PLEASE!!!

How did the movie get into iTunes? Does it have digital rights copy protection? I guess you're not seeing the movie when you look in music in the iMovie media browser, is that right?

I had been importing directly from the capture scratch folder, but this resulted in mono audio tracks, rather than stereo. Everything else looked fine...

So, I imported a series of small clips from i-MOVIE and I only get 1 sequence box with the total length of the clips. I thought the clips were supposed to list??

ok, I dont know how to make this any simpler, maybe I am not a computer person. When I watch the on-line training video on this apple site, they show several ruff cut clips being exported from i-movie then opened in FCE4. When the file is opened in FCE4, it shows each sequence listed separate in the browser. So, say for example I have 4 clips of vacation footage: beach, airport, dinner, driving. They are not listed in FCE4 individually, but as 1 sequence in the browser. Thanks

If you are wanting to use the audio from clip A into clip B then try......
First check that Advanced tools are enabled: iMovie>Preferences>General>Show Advanced Tools.
Drag clip A from the Event UPON clip B in the Project. When you release the mouse you will get a pop up menue.
Select Audio Only. Note the other options for another day!!!!
You will get a green bar as Karsten mentions above ( move it , shorten it etc, etc.)
Show Audio Waveform by selecting Blue Waveform Box ,bottom right of Project Window.
You can adjust audio level from clip A and clip B to your requirements.You can set either to zero volume if you require.
This may not be what you meant by "to use in another place "
If you want just the audio to use outside of iMovie, try;
With the required clip/clips only in the project> Share> Export Using Quicktime and in Export Select "Sound To AIFF. Save to desktop in the first instance so you can easily find it.

2005 Apple Cinema displays not able to show movies with new iTunes

ITunes is giving me the following error when trying to watch movies on my 2005 Apple Cinema display(s).
The selected movie won’t play on one of your connected displays.
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
Try moving the iTunes window to a different display. Make sure the entire window is on the supported display.
I called the Apple support, they said my displays can not support HDCP. Can anyone else comment on this?
Is this true to the best of your knowledge?
Is there anything I can do to make my movies play again? Other than buy new monitors of course.

Hi,
Highlight one of the applications that cannot be updated and click File> Get Info. Make sure you are signing-in to the iTunes Store with that Account Name shown in the Get Info window.
Then sign-in to the iTunes store and verify the account information as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918

Playing a Movie Clip within a Movie Clip on load

I'm trying to play a Movie Clip animation that is within a Movie Clip after a button has been pressed in a different Movie Clip.
The issue is that all Movie Clip animations are playing as soon as the SWF is loaded.
