Displaying a BLOB image inside a CFGRID

Is there a way to display an image stored as a BLOB inside my DB in a bound CFGRID (HTML formatted)?  My grid is bound to a cfc function that returns ten rows at a time. I had originally returned an img tag to my image column to display the photos, but I'm trying to migrate from storing images on the server file system to storing them as BLOBs in my DB.  I can retrieve the BLOB without any problems, but how do I return images to my CFGRID?  I really don't want to have to write them to the file system to do this as it would be counter productive.

Hi, i got a trouble to display the image in BLOB
i have win2k3, oracle 10.2 g, php 5Which version of PHP 5? Some LOB handling got broken and fixed along the way.
Try the latest DLL from http://pecl4win.php.net/ext.php/php_oci8.dll

  • I need to display my Blob image in my report (and also on form page)

    Scott,
    I followed the APEX advanced tutorial for uploading and downloading files. I have created a form on a table and that table contains a column of datatype BLOB. Now I want to be able to display the (Blob) images that I have uploaded.
    As I research the topic, I get the feeling that displaying the BLOB image can only be done in APEX 3.1 and up. Is this true? I have that version of APEX installed on my laptop and have successfully completed the "Defining and Viewing BLOB Data in Oracle Application Express 3.1" tutorial found here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/apex/apex31nf/apex31blob.htm
    But I could not do it on the company server that runs APEX 3.0
    Even if I did get the approval to have the company APEX application upgraded to 3.1, there still is the issue of scaling the images so that they are not so large. I understand that there is a UTIL.APEX function "GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC" that would do this for me. I read the documentation at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10513_01/doc/appdev.310/e10499/api.htm#CHDICGDA
    After reading it, I was still not clear as to how to use it correctly. Is there any documentation on how to implement this function in APEX?
    I did find something that I was hoping would help me. The article is entitled "Show Blob of other table in APEX Form" by Dimitri Gielis can be found here: http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2008/07/show-blob-of-other-table-in-apex-form.html
    I tried to import the file "blob_support.sql" application (on both APEX 3.0 and APEX 3.1 systems) but got errors. I'm not having very much luck here and would appreciate the help in pointing me in the correct direction.
    Help!!
    Thanks
    LEH

    Hello John,
    Your information was helpful. I can now see my images in my form.
    OK, now I would like to be able to call the image using a Region Source of type SQL instead of the HTML Expression. The reason for this is because I need to use logic to determine if the file is an image or not and to determine wether to show a thumbnail or just a link. I did find a "GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC" Function on the internet that suggests that I could do this but I need some help in making it work in my application.
    Here it is as a Region Source of type SQL:
    SELECT ID,
    NAME,
    CASE WHEN NVL(dbms_lob.getlength(document),0) = 0
    THEN NULL
    ELSE CASE WHEN attach_mimetype like 'image%'
    THEN '<img
    src="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'" />'
    ELSE '<a
    href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'">Download</a>'
    end
    END new_img
    FROM TEST_WITH_BLOB
    If anyone can help me with this that would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    i have win2k3, oracle 10.2 g, php 5

  • How to display a BLOB (Image) in a EBS Report?

    User requested to add a Logo image to a report which is called from E-Business Suite (EBS).
    The image is currently stores in a BLOB column.
    How can I make the image to display on the report?
    Thanks!

    I was trying to use the BLOB and display the image in a report.
    Per your suggestion:
    "Select the column in your query.
    Create an item in the layout editor and set the source to this column.
    Set File Format to Image."
    My question was I dont know how to "set the source to this column" as you described above.
    So, to work around it, I moved the image file phyically to the UNIX file system.
    Then, created an item in the layout editor which required a valid "image file path" the property palette.
    Since, the report was created under windows, it did not validate with UNIX file path.
    That's why i need to perform extra steps to get the file path correct to work in UNIX.
    EDIT:
    I guess when you said "set the source to this column", you mean to map the "Field source" attribute in the property palette to the database column from query.
    But depends on what item you want me to create (I created a "Link File" item) and it does not have the "Field source" attribute available to map to a database column.

  • Displaying a blob image in a report and form

    Hello all,
    Can anyone help me. I have a deadline after two days and I want to fix this as soon as possible.
    I am using Application Express 4.1.1.00.23.
    My problem is in displaying an image retrieved from a table. In my table, I have created these fields to upload the image:
    "IMAGE" BLOB,
    "MIMETYPE" VARCHAR2(255),
    "FILENAME" VARCHAR2(400),
    "IMAGE_LAST_UPDATE" DATE,
    They were uploaded successfully. Then I created a report to select all attributes from table. The blob attribute was displayed as (unsupported data type).
    and when i link this report to a form the image appear as a link (<img src="apex_util.get_blob_file?a=50435;s=293574445128601&p=29&d=65102984724474793498>)
    I will be very grateful if anyone tell me how to display the image in the table and form.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Displaying a blob into an image on OAF Page

    Hi everyone,
    I read this topic Re: Displaying an Image stored in the Database as BLOB on OA Fwk Page
    but is there another way to display a blob image on OAF Page?

    Hi,
    Yes I am using same code specified by Kali. My requirement is exact same with it.
    The debugger does not jump to the servlet class from CO.
    By the way the CO and servlets are in the same package.
    This is the page source;
    <img id="imageIT" name="imageIT" src="ReadPerImage?id=4
    {code}
    This is the servlet mapping in web.xml;
    {code}
       <servlet-mapping>
          <servlet-name>ReadPerImage</servlet-name>
          <url-pattern>/readperimage</url-pattern>
       </servlet-mapping>
    {code}
    Thanks.

  • Problem with displaying BLOB images on JSP page using a servlet

    hi. I have a big problem with displaying BLOB images using JSP. I have a servlet that connects to the oracle database, gets a BLOB image , reads it, and then displays it using a BinaryStream. The problem is , this works only when i directly call that servlet, that is http://localhost:8080/ImageServlet. It doesn't work when i try to use that servlet to display my image on my JSP page (my JSP page displays only a broken-image icon ) I tried several coding approaches with my servlet (used both Blob and BLOB objects), and they work just fine as long as i display images explicitly using only the servlet.
    Here's what i use : ORACLE 10g XE , Eclipse 3.1.2, Tomcat 5.5.16 , JDK 1.5
    here is one of my image servlet's working versions (the essential part of it) :
                   BLOB blob=null;
              rset=st.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM IMAGES WHERE ID=1");
              while (rset.next())
                   blob=((OracleResultSet)rset).getBLOB(2);
              response.reset();
              response.setContentType("image/jpeg");
              response.addHeader("Content-Disposition","filename=42.jpeg");
                    ServletOutputStream ostr=response.getOutputStream();
                   InputStream istr=blob.getBinaryStream(1L);
                    int size=blob.getBufferSize();
              int len=-1;
                    byte[] buff = new byte[size];
                         while ((len=istr.read( buff ))!=-1 ) {
                   ostr.write(buff,0,len);
             response.flushBuffer();
             ostr.close(); and my JSP page code :
    <img src="/ImageServlet" border="0"  > If you could just tell me what i'm doing wrong here , or if you could show me your own solutions to that problem , i would be very greatful ,cos i'm realy stuck here , and i'm rather pressed for time too. Hope someone can help.

    I turns out that it wasn't that big of a problem after all. All i had to do was to take the above code and place it into another JSP page instead of into a servlet like i did before. Then i just used that page as a source for my IMG tag in my first JSP. It works perfectly well. Why this doesn't work for servlets i still don't know, but it's not a problem form me anymore . Ofcourse if someone knows the answer , go ahead and write. I would still appriceatte it.
    here's the magic tag : <img src="ImageJSP.jsp" border="0"  > enjoy : )

  • Display BLOB (image) column in (interactive) report

    Hi,
    I have a field called "picture" in my table "details" which is of type BLOB. i also have a field for "MIMETYPE" and "filename"
    i additionally have a "name" and "description" columns which i need to display along with the picture as columns in a report (preferably interactive).
    i have also modified the BLOB display format as per
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/apex/r31/apex31nf/apex31blob.htm
    what i am missing is the correct query. if possible, i would like to control the size of the picture rendered within the report like say 40*50.
    I have also referred to the thread
    APEX 3.1 Display BLOB Image
    But i don't know how to place the
    dbms_lob.getlength("BLOB_CONTENT") as "BLOB_CONTENT"
    in my query.
    The above also makes the report column as of type "number". is this expected?
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    You haven't actually said what the problem is?

    from
              details
    if possible, i would like to control the size of the picture rendered within the report like say 40*50.For images close to this size it's easy to do this for declarative BLOB images in interactive reports using CSS. Add a style sheet with:
    .apexir_WORKSHEET_DATA td[headers="PICTURE"] img {
      display: block;
      width: 40px;
      border: 1px solid #999;
      padding: 4px;
      background: #f6f6f6;
    }where the <tt>PICTURE</tt> value in the attribute selector is the table header ID of the image column. Setting only one dimension (in this case the width) scales the image with the correct aspect ratio. (The border, padding and background properties are just eye candy...)
    However, scaling large images in the browser this way is a huge waste of bandwidth and produces poorer quality images than creating proper scaled down versions using image tools. For improved performance and image quality, and where you require image-specific scaling you can use the database ORDImage object to produce thumbnail and preview versions automatically, as described in this blog post.

         Thanks

    I have done exactly that in one of my applications.
    I have extracted the image from the database as a byte array, and displayed it using a servlet.
    Here is the method in the servlet which does the displaying:
    (since I'm writing one byte at a time, it's probably not terribly efficient but it works)
         private void sendImage(byte[] bytes, HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException {
              ServletOutputStream sout = response.getOutputStream();
              for(int n = 0; n < bytes.length; n++) {
                   sout.write(bytes[n]);
              sout.flush();
              sout.close();
         }Then in my JSP, I use this:
    <img src="/path-to-servlet/image.jpg"/>
    The name of the image to display is in the URL as well as the path to the servlet. The servlet will therefore need to extract the image name from the url and call the database.

  • How to display a blob as an image

    I am working on an application which stores images in a database as blobs. I need to extract these images and display them from a web page. How do I go about this using JSP or JSF?

  • Images inside pop-ups not displaying correctly

    I am generating a CHM using RoboHelp 10. I have certain pop-ups in some topics. These pop-ups contain screen shots. After generating the CHM, when I click the pop-ups to view the screen shots, they are not displayed correctly. That is, half of the image does not appear and there are no horizontal scroll bars either to scroll. This happens for pop-ups that are appear on the left side of a topic.The images inside pop-ups that appear to the right side of a topic appear fine when clicked.

    Hi Rick,
    Thank you for the response. Alas, updating the DHTML effects doesn't help. In the project that am working, I have used hyperlinks that are marked to be displayed as auto-sizing pop-ups.
    I also tried editing the eHlpDhtm.js file as mentioned in the thread here, https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1297423#expires_in=86399993&token_type=bearer&access_token =eyJhbGciOiJSUzI1NiIsIng1dSI6I…. But that was of no avail either.
    Do you have any other insights here?
    Regards,
    Anamika
    P.S. Am using RH 10.0.1.292.

    The help file was originally created using RH 7. I upgraded the source files to RH 10 successfully and there were no errors during the upgradation.
    I even tried generating the CHM on other systems with RH10 and the same system configuration as mine but ended up with the same results. I assume there is some compatibility issue maybe between RH 7 and RH10.
    Looking forward to any helpful insights here as this is pretty urgent at the moment for me to resolve the aforementioned issue at the earliest.

    talks about two options for creating a graphicImage jsf tag. (img tag)
    1. Make the img tag url refer to a servlet (instead of a static image file)
    2. Embed the image into the tag as inline base64 encoded data.
    2a. Use an <Object> tag with inline data.
    1. Looks a bit complex for a simple problem.
    2 and 2a don't work with some browsers.
    - And I've not yet figured out how to hook into the ADF Faces table-rendering logic to get it to add my image column. My table binds to a collection DataControl, [which in turn retrieves from a findAllItems call on a session facade, which uses my domain model, and wraps up access to a TopLink pesistence layer]. The framework just ignores my byte[] attribute when creating the jsf table from the DataControl. All string, int etc. attributes get represented correctly in the jsf table output.
