Displaying all of an artists songs

I just got the new ipod and i realized some songs were missing when i clicked on the artist. When i went into the song part though the songs were there, the artists name was there but i noticed there was no album. Is there some preference in ITUNES that makes it so that when you choose to display artists they show only songs that are part of an album?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) as you have already noticed, it is missing an album name.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in, in the absence of one you can just add None or Miscellaneous. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod</a

  • How do i display all artists in artists category?

i just got my ipod video, and i noticed that when i transfer music from itunes, only the artists for which i copied full albums show up in the "artists" section, while other artists for which i only have one song (but other album info, including album name) do not show up unless i enter "all" in the artists category. in that case, only the album names appear.

the only thing i can think of causing this problem, is if "compilations" is on. otherwise, i've never heard of this problem. you can turn this off in itunes when you open ipod preferences.

  • Artist's names are displayed incorrectly and some artists don't even show up at all on my iPhone 4S.

I was just doing some housekeeping in my iTunes library and I noticed that some of the artists were not showing up on my iPhone 4S. Here's an example. I like Wu-Tang. Wu-Tang has a million songs that feature a million different artists, so I just want all the songs to show up on my iPhone as "Wu-Tang" under artist. So I went into my iTunes library and painstakingly changed all of the artists names to simply "Wu-Tang". Only problems is, those songs are not showing up under Artists. I can find them when I look under Songs, but that's really annoying.
I'm having the same problem with other artists as well. Pearl Jam showing as Pearl J am, etc. It's driving me crazy.
So I guess what my question boils down to is this: after I re-name an Artist in iTunes, how can I get it to successfully show up on my iPhone? I should also mention that after every single time that I renamed an artist in iTunes, I got the message at the top that says "Updating files on iPhone", which leads me to believe that the change was successful, but when I looked it up on my iPhone, it wasn't. HELP! Thanks.

You may have updated those info on iTunes but not synced over to your iPhone.  Just double check from the MUSIC tab that the SYNC MUSIC box is checked.

  • After intalling iOS5, doesn´t display all albuns of the artists

After intalling iOS5, doesn´t display all albuns of the artists, but all albuns are there when you list "albuns".
e.g.: I have 5 Annie Lennox"s albuns. When I list "Artists", Annie Lennox only shows 3 albuns, but when I list "Albuns" I can find all the albuns.
Same for many artits that doesn't appear in the list of "Artists".

Well, I guess no one knew. I eventually found the answer. Go onto settings, music on your ipod and change the show artist by album one to off.

  • ITunes does not import all artists/songs from folder

I have had several issues with getting itunes to import all the music I have. I have selected the folder that I want itunes to be associated with. But when I go into itunes not all the artists imported. However, if I select add a folder, and then the artist, it imports the artist. I have tried to add the whole folder again, but still does not import all the artist/songs. At first I didn't think that I had imported the CDto the folder, but then when I went into my music folder it was there.
A couple of times when I have opened iTunes it was like starting over. I lost my playlists. I am not as concerned in getting those back as long as I won't lose all the changes I am now making. We also own two iPod shuffles, don't know if that makes a difference.
    Thanks inadvance for any information!

I had a similar problem with a Jimmy Buffett album,I sent the iTunes store an e-mail described the problem including the album title and receipt number and within 24 hours they responded and had done a "reset" and problem solved.
    Give it a try

  • New releases doesn't display all text

I've noticed a problem wtih the music store and I can't find any similar problem searching through the archives here. Any help in fixing the problem would be appreciated.
In iTunes here when I go to the Music Store the "New Releases" box seems to be too small to display all the information. The second row of songs has the artist name cut off except for the very tops of the letters. The "Exclusives" and "Staff Favorites" boxes also trim off the very bottom of the artist names but those are still readable.
Is there some way to reduce the text size so that I can read the information in the "New Releases" box?
    Thanks for any help.

Seems like newer updates to iTunes fixed this problem.

I wonder if we haven't misunderstood what you were asking for. Could it be that you have not a huge file, but just a huge list of names in many small files. If that's the case, you should rather use the following script instead of the previous one.
Since this script does not rename the files, make a backup of your files before running it.
set theFolder to choose folder -- the folder containing your text files
    tell application "Finder"
set theNames to name of files of theFolder whose name extension is "txt"
    end tell
    set theTextFiles to {}
set theFolderPath to POSIX path of theFolder
    repeat with thisName in theNames
copy theFolderPath & thisName to the end of theTextFiles
    end repeat
    repeat with thisFile in theTextFiles
set F1 to open for access thisFile
        set theText to read F1
        close access F1
set theParagraphs to paragraphs of theText
set bigList to (a reference to theParagraphs)
        set theNewParagraphs to {}
set bigNewList to (a reference to theNewParagraphs)
        repeat with X in bigList
            set P to offset of " - " in X
            if P = 0 then
                set Y to X
            else
                set Y to text (P + 3) through -1 of X & " - " & text 1 through (P - 1) of X
            end if
copy Y & return to the end of bigNewList
        end repeat
set theNewText to text 1 through -2 of (bigNewList as text)
set F2 to open for access thisFile with write permission
        set eof F2 to 0
        write theNewText to F2

  • Hello. Today I downloaded then transferred some songs from a YouTube converter to my desktop then into my iTunes Music. I then synced my iPod Touch to get them on my iPod now all of my other songs are gone! How do I get them back?!

Hello. Today I downloaded some songs from a YouTube converter. I selected the songs I wanted and tranferred them from my desktop into iTunes. I clicked on "Music", which I believe is where ALL of my other songs that I already had on my iPod, should be. But they're not. They're all gone! I tried logging out and searching my original songs I had in the search box, but nothing shows up. Only the songs I had transferred from the YouTube converter are displayed in my iTunes music, and I don't know how to get them back. I also tried syncing and restoring my iPod back from iTunes Backup but that didn't work, either. I don't know what to do! Please help!!

When you do a sync iTunes will only transfer the music you have selected. So you want to make sure that you select every song to sync.

  • ITunes Match displays all my music but won't download or play

I have just upgraded to Yosemite, doing a clean install.  There are 2 user profiles - mine and my partner's.  My partner's music appears to be playing fine.  I have iTunes Match.  I created my user account yesterday, logging in with my one & only Apple ID.  I have turned iTunes Match on and it is displaying all of my music, playlists, movies and TV shows (all with the little cloud icon).  However nothing is playing or downloading.  Whenever I click to either download or stream a song I get a message telling me "This computer is already associated with an Apple ID" and telling me to wait 90 days.  Surely this is not referring to my partner's user account on the same iMac?  Otherwise what would be the point of having separate user accounts on a desktop?  All my music is correctly stored in iTunes Match - now I want to listen to it.  What has gone wrong here please?  And yes, my user account has only 1 Apple ID and has been logged in with that since inception.

Apple have done something really screwy with Apple IDs on Yosemite. They've decided to associate an Apple ID with the device in its entirety, instead of with each user account.
I have two logins, one for my own personal account and one for a radio show I produce. The personal account has iTunes Match but the radio show accountt is just normal iTunes with iTunes In The Cloud. When I want to download music for the radio show, I switch to that account. I needed to download some of the music for that account and was warned that if I change accounts on this device I won't be able to again for another 90 days. I had no choice because I needed those files. But now when I go back to my personal login, I can no longer download any of my music from iTunes Match.
Fortunately, I have another device associated with my personal iTunes account and can download some of my music there instead.
This really needs to be sorted out!

  • HT2905 Most all of my 1700 songs have been duplicated in iTunes. I have downloaded the instructions how to delete the duplicates but it says "sort by the date you added" and i have no column that says that. I am running windows xp.

Most all of my 1700 songs have been duplicated in iTunes. I have downloaded the instructions how to delete the duplicates but it says "sort by the date you added" and i have no column that says that. I am running windows xp.

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

  • Music app does not display some of the artists' names correctly

It's so annoying. I have a few artists, whose names are not displayed correctly by the music app. In the following, I'm gonna take the band "Annisokay" as an example.
I, first of all, had this artist named as "annisokay". Everything was alright. Today, I decided it would look better with a capital A, so I changed the name to "Annisokay". I synced my iPhone with iTunes and checked the music app afterwards: In the music app, the name is still displayed as "annisokay". I connected the iPhone to my MacBook again and checked the "On this iPhone" tab in iTunes. There, the name is correctly displayed as "Annisokay".
I've tried deleting all the music on the iPhone and syncing it again, restarting my iPhone, deleting the music from iTunes and importing it again, changing the names to some gibberish and changing it back again, but nothing worked!!
So, to sum up, whatever I'm trying, in the end the artist's name (Artist & Album Artist) is defined as "Annisokay" and is displayed like that in iTunes itself and in the "On this iPhone" tab, but in the music app on the iPhone it's "annisokay". That's very annoying. Has anybody else ever encountered this problem? Is there someone who can help me to solve it?

  • How do you make it so that the ipod will play all the different artists featured in an album when you click that album to play?

How do you make it so that the ipod will play all the different artists featured in an album when you click that album to play? At the moment, each artist in the album is being separated and I can't play them together. For example, to play the Halo 2 Soundtrack, Hoobastank, Breaking Benjamin, Nile Rodgers, etc. are some of the artists featured. However, in the Albums category, they are each separate choices. I want to play them all together, but can't. Is there a way to do that?

It sounds like the album metadata is incorrect, or differs from song to song in iTunes.  Albums with various artists will play properly assuming all the songs are tagged with the same identical album name, as well as the track number.  For the Halo 2 Soundtrack, metadata should look like this:
    Song: <Song Title>
    Artist: <Song Artist>
Album: Halo 2, Vol. 1 (Original Soundtrack)
    Genre: Soundtrack
I had a similar problem with my imported Cowboy Bebop albums and the mixture of artists/album names.  Once I adjusted the metadata, all of them play in the correct order just by selecting the Album from the available list or in Coverflow.

  • Hello, my iTunes dates are crashed on my mac, how can I download all my itunes match songs and save on my mac?

Hello, my iTunes dates are crashed on my mac, how can I download all my itunes match songs and save on my mac?

    Hi mrmoo13!
You have a couple of options for transferring your music library from one computer to another. First, you can download all of your music that is stored in the cloud on iTunes Match by following the instructions on this page:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Access all your music anytime, anywhere with iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12284
You can follow steps listed in the section right here:
Play or download songs from iCloud
You can play songs directly from iCloud, or you can download songs so you can play them when you’re not connected to the Internet.
If a song is available in iCloud, it has a Download button next to it.
To play the song, double-click it.
To download the song, click the Download button.
After you download a song to a computer, it remains in the computer’s iTunes library, even if you turn off iTunes Match.
To only display downloaded songs in your iTunes library, choose View > Hide Music in the Cloud. This also hides any previous iTunes Store purchases you haven’t downloaded.
For information about downloading and playing songs on an iOS device, see the documentation for the device.
In order to make it easier to download all of your music, you can highlight all of the songs in your iTunes Match section and then click download, as mentioned in these instructions.
You can also choose to transfer the music from your old computer to the new one by following the steps in this article, whcih will give you some other options for doing this transfer:

  • What's Up with J and Q?  Artist/Song List presentation problem

    Hi all
    iPhone 4.1 / iTunes 10.0
This is odd. After adding a lot of albums to my Iphone 4's IPod, I noticed that in Artist List view, artists whose names begin with "J" appear under the letter "K" in the list, like this:
    K
    Jansen-Barbieri
    Japan
    Jesus Jones
    Kasabian
    Killing Joke
Similarly, songs whose titles are deemed to begin with the letter "Q" are appearing under "R" in the Song List view:
    R
    A Question of Time
    Quiet Life
    Radio Radio
    Rain
    Re-Make/Re-Model
    So, what's up with J and Q?
I asked at my local Apple Store; they had never seen this before but suggested Restoring to Factory Settings and resyncing. I tried this - no change.
I tried removing all the "J" artists from my library, syncing (looked okay at this point), adding the "J" artists back and resyncing. Surely this would give me the "J" banner I expect? Nope.
The only thing I have not tried is restoring to Factory Settings then, instead of restoring from backup, re-introducing the iPhone to iTunes as a brand new unit (thus ignoring all backed up contacts etc). This may work but seems very extreme.
Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions? Apple?
    TIA,
    James

    OP back again,
Justv added a few more tunes (c.70) and my problem has righted itself. New tunes added from CDs. J (in Artist listing) and Q (in Song listing) now appearing as expected.
This is obviously an intermittent and unrepeatable bug.
I asked at my Apple Store (again) about this (while I still had the issue), they advise a Genuis appointment, at which I was assured that if they could not fix it, they would replace my handset.
As I cannot demonstrate the problem any longer, I cancelled my appointment.

  • Preventing Podcasts from being displayed as Music and\or songs.

How can I prevent Podcasts from being displayed as Music and\or songs?

    Welcome Mr. Lutz,
Note: This is for Windows version of iTunes because this is the OS I'm running. Even with diferent OSes, the process should be similar enough.
    1.Open iTunes
    2.Connect your iPod
3.Highlight it in the source list
    4.Go to Edit, then Preferences
    5.Click on the iPod tab
6.Click on Automatically update selected playlists only
7.Click which playlists you want on your iPod
    8.Switch to the Podcast tab
    9.Select automatically update all podcasts
    10.Click OK
    11.Disconnect your iPod
12.Now, follow steps 1-7 with one of your daughter's iPods.
13.Now, switch to the Podcast tab
and select Do not update podcasts
    14.Click OK
15.Disconnect the iPod.(Repeat Steps 12-15 with the other mini.
This should allow your iPod to update your songs and podcasts, and allow your daughters to update their songs and no podcasts.
    Happy iPodding,
