Displaying DVD rom content

Is there any way to have your DVD rom folder display once it is set up as DVD content?
Jeff

What do you mean by "access the DVD Rom folder"? The only way access anything in the DVD-ROM folder is via DVD@ccess. And this is very problematic at best. I would advise against using it. See other postings on DVD@ccess.
What is it you are trying to do exactly?

Out of nowhere, I can't seem to add DVD-ROM content to my latest DVD. The folder is about 1100 photos and weighs in at 1.6GB. The content is accepted, the DVD burns and all seems right until you try to access the DVD folders. The video plays beautifully. The folder structure displays but I can't even get the VIDEO_TS folder to display detail consistently.  This isn't my first time to the fair, I've been authoring with DVDSP for 8-9 years.
I went back and reviewed the the procedure step-by-step, I even re-named all the photos to comply with ISO 9660 naming conventions...  no joy.  I've
burned it with and without the Joliet Extension Support, no difference.
I'm on an (early 2008) 8x3.2GHz Mac Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and FCS3.
Anyone ever seen this? I'm stumped.

Michael, thanks for the response. It turns out it's both the size and quantity of photos.
I feel stupid for not solving this earlier, but it took a trip to one of my back-up systems to see the problem:
The SuperDrive simply doesn't have the bandwidth to quickly transfer sufficient info to display these additional folders. I tried the same DVD on one of my souped up G5 dualies (with new 16X burner) and it seemed to incrementally display the folders. That's when I realized that a DVD with a couple of GB of video on it is a poor display system. LOL
I'll re-organize the data into more, smaller folders and instruct the recipients to be patient or drag the folders to their desktop.

  • .PDF files in DVD ROM content

I am using a Mac and Encore CS4. I am trying to include a .pdf file as DVD ROM content. Whenever I try this, all .pdf files are "grayed out" and I can't use them. Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro are both installed on the computer. I can read .pdf files outside of Encore.
    Any help would be appreciated.

To add to Ruud's comment. When adding DVD-ROM content (Build tab; about half way down), you cannot add files; you must add folders. But you can have anything you want inside the folder.
If you really want the file at the root of the DVD (i.e. not in a folder), build from Encore to a DVD folder without the file(s). Then use ImgBurn, add the Video_TS folder and any other files, then burn. I've never done this before, so I did a quick test (but I am CS3). Such a disk plays as a DVD in a set top DVD player and on a PC through wmp, and, on the PC, I can open the file from the disk.

  • DVD-ROM contents missing

I created a .dmg (disk image) in iDVD containing a movie and a folder of photos in the DVD-ROM section.
I burned the DVD in Toast (8.0 I think)because it makes it so easy to do mass copies.
My .dmg when mounted on my desktop contains the folder of photos. I just assumed that they were making it to the burned DVD's. After burning 63 copies, I discovered that the burned DVD was MISSING the entire folder of photos that had been placed for DVD-ROM access.
Needless to say, I was VERY frustrated. It's too late to fix it now, I'm just giving them the DVD and telling them that the pictures are not on it like I thought.
However, I'd like to avoid this problem in the future. I did this last year with our end-of-year slideshow and it worked fine.
How could the .dmg contain the folder, but the burned DVD from the .dmg have it missing?

Yes, I do know that DVD-ROM contents are not accessible through the TV. I tried it in both a Mac and a Windows computer and the DVD-ROM contents were missing from both.
I'm 99% positive, that I burned the .dmg image the same way that I did last year. I burned it in Toast both years--last year's DVD-ROM contents burned fine, this year's didn't.
But thanks for trying to help. Hopefully, I'll figure out an answer. Maybe I'll find something in google.

  • Folders For DVD-ROM Content?

Hey all - when adding DVD-ROM content, am I limited to dumping all of the files into one directory, or can I use a folder structure? For example, I'd like my DVD-ROM selections to include pictures, mp3's, and wallpapers, with each of those housed in its folder.
If this is possible, pelase let me know how I can go about doing it. Thanks for your help.

    RiceCooker,
    You state:
However, when I go back to access the file on the DVD its completely useless.  Its there but will not respond to anything I do to it.
What exactly have you tried to access the files in the ROM Content? Remember, none of this content will be available from a set-top DVD player.. One can only access from a computer.
Might be a problem with the folder/files, or with the method used to access them. BTW, what are the file types in that folder?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • DVD-ROM contents missing on DVD

I have added about 500 MB of picture files to the DVD-ROM Contents of my DVD project. The Project Info screen shows the DVD Capacity at "2.2 GB of 4.2 GB" and all of the picture files (as far as I can tell) are listed in the Media list of contents.
The problem I am having is that the burned DVD from this project only includes a single picture within the "DVD-ROM Contents" folder of the finished product. Is there a solution for this? All of my software is up to date as of today.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Cool... I can do this.
How long (in minutes) is the movie?
    14 min, 22 23/30 sec
Did you use the movie in any motion menu drop zones?
Nope. I only used two photos in a single drop zone (and neither is in the DVD-ROM contents.
Did you use any unusual characters in the file names
of your images? Can you give us an example name?
They are all the default names from the camera (e.g. P6110006.JPG) and appear to only have standard letters and numbers.
Are the images on the same hard drive as your iDVD
    project file?
    Yes, they all are.
    Thanks!

  • DVD-ROM Contents Not Copied to DVD

I have created an iDVD slideshow of pictures from a trip. To include the pictures, including ones not in the slideshow, I used <Advanced-Edit DVD Contents...>. Using <Project-Project info...> I can see from the size of the project that the files are in fact included.
I then <File-Save As Disk Image...>. However, the final DVD does not have the extra files on it. It only contains the iDVD slide show.
    What am I missing?

The disk image you created will have the DVD-ROM content.
How did you burn the disk image to writable media?
I ask because I recently did exactly what you did with a slideshow in iDVD. When I used Roxio's Toast Titanium 8 to burn the disk image to writable media, I failed to notice an 'Option Selection' block of information at the lower left of the Toast interface that had a box that says 'Use Fit-to-DVD Video Compression'. It seems to be selected by default and is very easy to miss. The disk I wrote did not have the DVD ROM content. I then used Apple's Disk Utility and everything was fine. I then when back to Toast and noticed the box I mentioned. When the box was unchecked, Toast also produced a 'good' DVD.

  • Creating DVD-ROM content?

Premier Pro CS3, Windows XP, 2GB RAM, plenty fast hard drives
I'd like to create a DVD with both video and DVD-ROM content. Is that possible?
If not, then suggestions for the following ... part of the DVD is video content in the form of slide shows set to music.
The other part of the DVD needs to be self-running slideshows that have no soundtrack. I'd like to use Photoshop Web Photo Galleries to create these slide shows. If I can't have mixed DVD and DVD-ROM content, then how to output these slide shows so they work on the DVD?
I've never tried PDF Presentations but seems like if I want to use Web Photo Galleries my only option is Flash. True?

Steve, if you mean by DVD-ROM just being able to access other files included on a DVD, it's super simple to do.
Burn out your project files ( your vobs for your video portion ) to a folder on your computer.
Then open Nero, or whatever you use to burn your DVDs out. Copy your e VIDEO_TS folder like you usually do to burn out a disc, and then just drag and drop over the other files needed for your slide shows to Nero or whatever you use, and then burn the disc out. The finished disc will play your video content upon putting it into your DVD player, and you'll be able to play the other content on your computer ( from that DVD disc )
As for Jim's comments, he's much much more advanced than I, and I'd love to hear more about these "assets" for Encore, and what the proceedure is.
    Dave.

  • Customizing the DVD ROM content

    Hi,
I added in the DVD ROM content of one of my film photos from iPhoto. I have a few issues I want to resolved:
    - The folder is named with the name of my iDVD file, and not with the name of my iDVD Project (in Project/Project info). Anyway to force the later as the folder name?
    - The DVD ROM content also have the Original folder of original photos untouch. Anyway to remove that folder?
    Thanks

I did not find any solution, so I just burned them that way...

  • Missing DVD-ROM content

I am using a freshly built MacPro with 10.5.1 and iDVD 7.0.1
    I have a 19 minute video from iMovie 6.0.4 ( I do not like iMovie '08).
My problem involves about 270 high resolution images in .jpg format want to include as 3 slide shows and as DVD-ROM content.
No matter how I try when I make the DVD (or now I make an image) from iDVD it fails to provide the DVD-ROM content correctly. In each case I MAY get a single image from each of the slideshows in the DVD-ROM/Slideshows subfolders.
I have also tried for each slide show to deselect the "Include images as DVD ROM content" and then add each folder using the "Edit DVD-ROM Content..." menu item and get very similar results. I've even added a simple readme.txt file that fails to get added to the DVD-ROM contents folder.
Each image is between 2 and 5 MB. According to the "Project Info..." window all file statuses are checked as fine and the total size of the DVD should be 1.93 GB.
Any ideas why iDVD is failing to add my desired images to the ROM content?
I also thought of changing the created .img file to a larger size and then Read/Write so I could then drag and drop in my own ROM content. However it appears Apple's Disk Utility does not resize UDF volumes. So if there is a suggestion on how to resize the UDF then send that along and I'll try that also.
    thanks

Any ideas why iDVD is failing to add my desired images to the ROM content?
This issue comes up from time to time and SO FAR, the issue has always been trying to exceed the total capacity of a DVD. I'm not sure the Project Window accurately includes the DVD-ROM size.
A 19 minute movie and menus could easily add up to 1.3GB; then you have to figure in the space for the slideshows so your 'normal' DVD contents could easily be 1.9GB (or more).
If you put all 270 high resolution images in one folder, what would the folder size be?

  • Problem with adding DVD-ROM content

I have placed a folder in the build folder which contains another folder in which there is a pdf document.
In the inspector I have flagged this folder as DVD-ROM content. However, when I burn a test disc the additional folder is not being burned to disc. Can anybody help?

Here's what you need to do:
Let's say you want to have a ROM-folder named "PDFs" on your final DVD.
Collect all your pdf-files and put them in a folder in any location/HD and name the folder "PDFs". Do not put it into your build folder.
Now, put this folder into another folder named "This is the folder containing everything I want to add as ROM-content to my DVD".
You may wanna choose another name, but just to make a point..
This is the folder that you flag in Inspector.
When you build your DVD, it will not show up - it is only added when you format.
Try to format to ".img" first to check that everything looks ok.

  • DVD ROM Content

    Ok,
I'm going to have to admit that I may not understand much on this subject. However, I've spoken with a video production representative with a lot of experience, and he says he will not be able to deliver a DVD to my company with a DVD ROM Contents folder containing an MPEG (for people without DVD player plugins. . . long story). He said something I didn't understand about it affecting the quality if he were to do it in that format. Am I missing something? Or is this an issue that only affects other DVD authoring apps (apart from DVDSP)? I do this all the time for my projects. Am I decreasing the quality? Is he authoring his DVD's with a compression different to the MPEG2 I'm using with Compressor? Or does this guy just genuinely not understand the DVD ROM Contents?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Lawrence

First lets start off with MPEG. Are you talking about MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4? MPEG-1 is the closest thing to a universal format. People will be able to watch an MPEG-1 with their computers, but he is right, you are sacrificing size and quality with MPEG-1. MPEG-2 is the format DVDs use, but people will more likely be able to watch the actual DVD than a separate MPEG-2 file. So you are not gaining anything in putting a MPEG-2 file on your disc. MPEG-4 can give you high quality, higher resolution (if you started with HD) file than your DVD. Anyone with iTunes can watch an MPEG-4, so most people will be able to watch an MPEG-4, but not everyone.

  • Adding DVD-ROM content stops the main movie playing on DVD player

I have a iDVD project which burns fines and plays perfectly on my DVD player.  The discs are +R DL discs and the DVD player accepts this format.
However when I add DVD-ROM contents to the Project the subsequent burned disc will not play on the same DVD player.
The disc does play on the Mac but that defeats the object of creating the DVD inthe first place!!
Has anyone else had this problem or do you have an idea what could be causing it or how it can be resolved?  Thanks for any help.
    iDVD vesrion 7.1.2

    Thanks Jim,
I am so used to building my projects in DVDSP and then burning proofs through Toast, I never thought to use the Format option in DVDSP and point to my burner!!! I am always using the Format option for DLTs only. I did that and realized it was not as expected! I ended up with a pdf with the TS folders. I added an additional folder and all is well. Thank you.

  • If I create an ISO, will my DVD-ROM content be Included?

Hey all - If I tell Encore to create an ISO image of my project (to burn with Nero later), will it also include the DVD-ROM content I selected, or is it ISO strictly the TS folders? I'm hoping it comes along, because the version of Nero I have won't let me add any top-level folders to the DVD when I burn it. Thanks.

The image file will include any ROM content you added in Encore.

  • Button link for DVD Rom content

Is it possible to have a button on the DVD menu that opens a window on the desktop showing the path to the DVD-Rom content on a disk?

But you can hae a button that opens a "window" (a menu) that says that additional content can be opened on the computer in the "Extra_Content" folder. It just won't take you to the content.
And add a button to go back, or also make the end actionof the menu to return (and set a duration for the menu).
