Displaying File name

When my clients meet with me, I use the iPod photo functionality to view their photos and make decisions. However, it would make things easier if I knew which photo they liked, amongst a group of similar-posed photos. Using the file name in Bridge makes things easy, but I can't get the iPod to do the same.
Is there a way to have the file name display over the photo that I'm viewing?
Thanks!

  • The Video app in OS7 update doesn't display file names.

The Video app in OS7 doesn't display file names under the image.
How can I identify my video files without having to open each file to access the file name.
Is there something I am missing or is this just an omission in the OS7 upgrade.
I am a music teacher and this lack of file names makes the app virtually useless for use in the classroom.

Agreed. This has been a problem with TV Shows in the Videos app since forever, but at least it used to put the name under Movies. Now instead fixing it for TV Shows in iOS 7 they've done the opposite and made Movies fail the same way as TV Shows always have!
Apparently it still lists the title for Home Videos, so the best work around for now is probably to reclassify all your Movies as Home Videos. Sigh.
Apple's Videos app development team seem to be unaware that iTunes can store and play movies and TV shows that don't come from the iTunes Store, videos that don't have covers, and that need to display the names and other info from iTunes for them. They also seem to not understand that the default grid view for videos is totally inadequate for users with scores or hundreds of movies and TV shows that they home share to their iPads and iPhones from iTunes. The Videos app needs a list view at least, as well as a grid view.
All they have to do is look at how the Apple TV handles the same files and meta-data from iTunes and provide something similar for the iPad and iPhone. Why after all these years they still don't get that I have no idea.

I search multiple shares to find a common file name then create a single output file. I will be doing this search and file creation

  • PSE v4 Display file name in Organiser

Is there any way of displaying the file name under the thumbnails in the organizer. I would prefer to see the file name in place of the date and time or caption.

you can see the name in addition to the date by going to Edit > Preferences > General and checking show File Name in Details. Be sure that your thumbnail size is large enough - adjust the slider to the right if necessary.

  • Displaying File Name for Photo and Video Clips in Premiere Elements 10

I am using Premier Elements 10 on a Windows 7 Pro desktop computer to create
a project consisting of 128 jpg photo and mp4 video clips.  Before creating
the project I created a short file name for each clip describing its
content.  I've added menu tags at locations which separate the project into
discrete segments.  I've selected a disc menu which utilizes the menu tags I
created.  I previewed the project and I'm satisfied that the DVD disc I
intend to create will display everything I want except for one thing.  I
have spent several hours trying to find out how to have each displayed clip
include the file name (without extension) somewhere near the edge of each
window as it is opened in the finished production.  I sure would appreciate
some help with the steps needed to accomplish this.

    Welcome to the forum.
This can most easily be accomplished by adding a Title (maybe from a Lower-Thirds Title Template), above each Clip/Still Image.
I would create one such Title, and manually add the "File Name" in the location desired. Then, place that on a higher Video Track, above the Clip/Still. Then, just use the Duplicate Title function, to create a new Title, with the Text and Style, per the first - edit the Text for each, as required.
I know of no automated method to grab the Clip's/Still's File Name, and add that to a Title, as PrE does not support any scripting.
    Good luck,

  • Using Finder search not displaying file names

I'm running 10.6.4 and searching from the finder on an Xserve for a file name 00035.png but it's not showing in the results.
    Any ideas?

To clarify your question, when you perform the file search through finder, at the bottom of the window is there a place where it says "x items" and is the number shown there greater than zero?
I am having trouble understanding if your search is returning results but they aren't being displayed, or if you're searching for a file you know is on your drive, but it's not being identified.

  • Why don't my videos (movies) display file names?

I have about 20 movies on my Lumia 928, but the file names don't display.  The movies play fine, but it would be nice to know the names of the movies without having to play them.

I can see how having to play the movie without knowing the file name would be a hassle.
I have researched this matter & I do believe this is just a part of the design of the phone.
I have even checked with HTC http://bit.ly/14DuBW3 to see if they know of any other way to do this, but nothing yet.

  • Can i-tunes display fIle names in the columns

i-tunes has a vast list of columns to choose from right from album, artist, genre ,rating etc..
However, how can I display the original file name in a column?

As far as I have seen, using i-tunes properly to its fullest to maintain a neat library is not possible by simple users.
    Huh?
Add items to iTunes, name everything correctly in iTunes and let iTunes manage everything, including location and it is very, very easy.
Why use one application to play music and another application (Windows Explorer) to manage the file locatgions and filenames? That sounds more difficult.
Simple users will not understand that the album tag in a mp3 file is most of Why would they be wrong? Most RIPping software will add the info from the application.
If the user is lazy and does not want to add/verify the info, then that is their problem but why not use the tags, which were developed specifically to maintain information about that file?Simple users (and everyone else) should use the tags and put the correct info in those tags (using iTunes).
and not relative to the original file name
Who really cares what a filename (or even where a file is located) is if I can do what I want in iTunes? If I need to copy it somewhere, drag it directly from the iTunes window.
So, it is just an additional simple request from simple users
Send suggestions here -> iTunes feedbacl
Regardless, you are free to maintain your files as you wish and you can make it as simple or as difficult or anywhere in between, as you want.

  • Tags, no longer displaying file names and other issues

I upgraded to Mavericks, MacBook Air.
I need help sorting out what is going on with Tags.
I have a screen shot, but uploading it to this post is another problem I have run into with Mavericks.  I click on the camera icon, click on upload file, and then I get a list of greyed out files, and am unable to select any of them.  Very unmac like.
Back to the tag issue.  The tags are listed in the open finder window.  Most of the tags I have created, when selected, will display all the files with that tag, and show the file name or icon.
BUT, one of my tags, which has over a thousand files, will not display the file names.  What is shown are a list of blank icons, and no file names.  The preview for each file still shows as it should when a file is selected, and the file name is listed in the preview.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so I really wish I could have uploaded the screen shot!
In addition, some of the files, e.g. a .pdf file, will show no icon, no file name, no file size, but will open when double clicked and dispaly the file name and a greyed out addition to the file name "-Locked".  Much weirdness.
Tags have not been working well for me.  I have used colours extensively in the past for organization and now it seems to be a huge problem converting to tags.  What a painful transition from Mountain Lion!

With the backup completed, I followed your suggestion:
"Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again."
The smart folders disappeared.  The original Tags named by colour are back on the list of Tags, and the problems remain unchanged.
In the Tags I created for my file collection, call it the LotsOfFiles folder, there are no file names listed, none.
However, when I changed the permissions on every file in the LotsOfFiles folder to Staff-Read & Write, then I was able to change, add, and delete Tags from the files.  Also, once the permissions were changed the file names appeared, after five minutes... so I edited this entry when I discovered the change.
The files in LotsOfFiles have been collected since 1995, and have been saved to many computers and many backup systems.  They also have been used, saved, changed etc. in operating systems dating back to OS7, and almost every operating system up to 10.9.  They also are being used on different computers right now, one running OS 10.3.9. one running 10.7, and one running 10.9.  The computers all have different admin logins and info.
But I still can't upload files to this forum!

  • Setting File Name in response

    Hi,
On server side I read the (Pdf) file and then stream the file content thru response object so that this pdf file opens in browser using Adobe reader. This works just fine.
And right now, if user wants to save this file in browser, complete jsp url appears as file name in save as dialog box.
    For eg.:
If my jsp has stream the pdf file from this url
    http://www.xy.com/jsp/displayFileJsp?f=xyz.pdf
    then
when user tries to save this file, browser save as dialog displays file name as "http://www.xy.com/jsp/displayFileJsp?f=xyz.pdf"
But I want user should download that file name with specific file name like xyz.pdf.
I tried to set the content type
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", " filename=xyz.pdf" );
    But it didn't work.
    any suggestions ?

  • Full Screen mode - file Name

    Hi
Is there a way to display the file nane in Full Screen Mode.. This would speed things up for me.. we take 2 or 3 shot
of every kid.. We rename all the files. So going back and for trying to pick the best one and delete the others. We are making the switch to Mac and we are used to ACDSee on the PC..
    Joe in Peoria AZ

Is there a way to display the file nane in Full Screen Mode..
Yes Bridge displays file names in full screen mode but strangely enough not
when having opened the files with hitting spacebar the first go. You have to
rate one and after this all the files will appear bottom left including the
    star rating.
I'm kind of used to this but glad you remind us again, to my opinion it
should be there in the first place, viewing full screen is not the same use
    as viewing a slide show.
Again strangely in slideshow you have the option to set caption in some
rudimental form but for full screen preview I'm not aware of such an option.
But as said, the workaround is to select files in Bridge, hit space and use
the shortcut cmd+. (dot) to increase the rating with one star.
Now all the filenames and ratings / labels do show permanently for this
    visit to full screen.
Decreasing rating is also easily done with cmd+, (comma). Hitting this
decrease option first to none rated files sets them to reject, again hit
cmd+. And the rating turns back from reject to zero.
It is a very easy and useful way of selecting and rating, all the keys you
need are close to each other

  • Display File Extension in iPhoto?

I've just started to use iphoto.  In the thumbnail view of an event (or for that matter, anytime I'm viewing a display of thumbnails), I would like iphoto to display file name and file extension.  It's not doing that and I can't see a setting in iphoto preferences to enable file extensions.  I know there's a Finder preference to show all extensions, and it is checked.
Is there a way to display file extensions?

    Yes.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Rename file name in photostream

question: how do i rename an image within photostream?
note distinction: file name vs photo title.
    evidently photostream displays file name.
hence, if you have gone to the trouble of renaming a photo title in photoshop and then created a photostream expecting titles to appear as you'd wish (for friends/family to see), then you're out of luck.

since everyone sharing using PhotoStream must be using the same Apple ID
this is no longer the case.
for shared PhotoStreams you would use the Comments field to describe the photo
no. you would use comments field for comments. the title field is meant for title/filename.
or change the file name prior to importing the photo to iPhoto
    complete waste of time.
only thing worse than that is exporting and reimporting which creates duplicates, clutter, and filekeeping menace.
