Displaying iCal Birthday Calendar instead of iPhone's

OK, so iOS4 has got a new built-in birthday calendar which pulls the birthday details from my Contacts and displays them in the Calendar view. And I found out I can turn it off in Settings. So far so good. But now it seems I can no longer view my iCal calendar (or subscription as it is called) for 'Birthdays' like I used to be able to do?
Why would I want to do this? I have a large database of contacts in Address Book on my Mac, many of whom I don't ever phone and thus don't include on the Group that I sync with my iPhone, so I have an uncluttered contact list. But I do want the birthdays for my iCal people to appear on my iPhone's Calendar.
Any suggestions please?

Dave, thanks for the suggestion. I was able to do a search as you suggested, highlight all the results, but when I tried to drag them... alas they won't drag.
Then I did another search in the Help topics of iCal to find how to do this. Lo and behold I found the topic "Moving all events and to-do items from one calendar to another"! Perfect. Followed those instructions, got all my birthdays imported into my newly created calendar, which I will now sync with my iPhone, and disable the iPhone's version. Hooray!

  • ICal birthday calendar from Tiger missing after upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Tiger to 10.6.7 Leopard.  I noticed that iCal did not import my Birthday's calendar that I had manually created in Tiger.  None of my birthdays show up except for one when I select "show birthday calendar" in iCal preferences.  I have done the following:
Removed from Leopard and replaced with my Tiger data the following:
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
I have also removed the iCal folder in the Application Support folder in my Library.  After I did this I reopened iCal.
That didn't work so I tried removing the Calendars folder from my Library and reopened iCal to no avail.
I also rebooted into Tiger on my external to verify that the missing "birthday' calendar is still there, and it is.
I tried backing it up when I was in Tiger, than rebooting in Leopard and tried importing the backup to no avail also.
    Any other suggestions?
Edit:  The calendar that I had created "Birthdays" does show up under "On my Mac", but the actual birthdays are nowhere to be found.

The birthdays for the iCal birthday calendar are taken from your address book
You will need to have one contact page and one birthday in your address book for each person.
Otherwise enter the names onto the correct dates in iCal and set them to repeat each year which is what I have done. I run couples and families in my address book.. Most of the Grandkids don't have their own pages

  • Ical birthday calendar wrong dates

    Hello,
I have an issue with iCal regarding the birthday calendar.
It works pretty fine syncing with address book, but it ads the birthday obviously twice. The birthday itself and the day before the birthday. When refering the URL in iCal it directs me to the Contact card of the person and there is only the correct date.
Why does iCal do that? And more important, how can I solve that problem and remove all the wrong dates? Because it is anoying to have birthday reminders for people twice. It also looks pretty dumm in the notification center of Mountain Lion. With two birthdays of the same person in a row. Mostly it has one year difference as well, so the same person turns lets say 29 the one day and 30 the other.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help.
I've just checked forward into 2014 and I see that it doesn't re-occur  then.
Strange, it's just one person and it's only happening in 2013. Their birthday is on 31st March and there's and entry for 31st Mar and 1st April.
I'm not going to worry about it anymore.

  • ICal sycing calendar dates to iPhone

    Hi,
When I plug the iPhone into the mac via USB and open iTunes, the calendar dates in iCal do not get synced across. I have gone into iCal and looked for a way to send dates to the phone, but without success. Can anoyone help, please? iTunes does send contacts - just not iCal dates.
    Thanks!

I finally got it fixed with a little help from some related posts online.
    - Delete any files with 'cache' in the name that are in ~/Library/Calendars
    - Launch iSync, go to Preferences, and do Reset Sync History
    - Log out and log back in
I don't know if it's one or both of the first two items, but it did the trick.

  • HT2513 Had to import Birthdays from yahoo calendar. Is there any way to move them to the iCal Birthdays calendar without manually inputing them each into Address Book?

I used to use Yahoo Calendar to manage my birthdays and notifications of them. Yahoo screwed with something, so now I no longer get birthday notification texts to my cell. Now, I've imported my Yahoo Calendar dates in to iCal. iCal has a Birthdays "subscription" calendar which only shows birthdays entered into the Address Book. I do not have any birthdays entered into Address Book. Is there any way to select birthday entries from my other calendars and move them to the birthdays tab, or must I manually enter over 200 birthdays into Address Book?
While I'm here, is there any way to highlight specific calendar entries and move them to a "new calendar"?
THanks in advance for any and all help.

  • ICal subscribed calendars sync to iPhone ?

I have several calendars that are syncing well to iPhone from Leopard, but none of the subscribed calendars (holidays, sports team schedules, etc.) are syncing.
Is there some trick to get this to work?
    Thank you for your help.

There are two answers to this subscribed calendars (holidays, sports team schedules, etc.) question.
    1) When you sync the iPhone via your iTunes then the subscribed cals will sync. Be sure to check the correct boxes under iTunes. A visit to a genius bar may be needed.
    2) If you sync your iPhone with MobileMe then you are out of luck.
    The MobileMe issue:
This has been a thorn in everyones you know what for about one year. The answer to your question is..
    You can't.
Apple does not support the idea of people actually getting all their info sync'd from MobileMe. If you have purchased a MobileMe Family Pack then the idea of sharing your info within a family is an oxymoron.
Just got back from MacWorld '09 and the utter disappointment in Apple not supplying an update to the iPhone in the Schiller keynote is overwhelming. No matter what the media is saying about MacWorld. The fact is, the two main issues at hand that people wanted to see for the iPhone was Copy/Paste and Shared iCals on their iPhones. It was not the stupid rumor of a iPhone nano. People really want functions fixed before new hardware.
No matter what Apple execs state about 'no one seems to care about these issues' is a lack of understanding about being mobile and productive. Apple created a great phone without allowing people to be to mobile.
So, until Apple finds the need to help its customer base with features they need or want (other then games and ifart programs from iTunes).. Well you are out of luck.
    Sad to state, but true.

  • Birthday calendar - will not display a particular birthday

Both the iPhone Calendar and the MacBook's iCal create a "Birthday" calendar, based on entries in Contacts and/or Address Book (In iCal Preferences, "show birthday calendar" must be selected).
I have an entry in my contact list with a birthdate of September 4, 1932.
I cannot get that birthday to appear on my iPhone's Birthday Calendar. It does appear on the iCal Birthday calendar and - believe it or not, it even appears on the MobileMe Birthday Calendar. It just will not appear on the iPhone's Birthday Calendar.
That is the only entry I can't see on my iPhone's Birthday Calendar. I have also tried to create fictitious contacts with that birthdate and they do not appear either.
I am requesting any other user (or users) to create a Address Book entry with the same birthdate and report whether it will display on the iPhone's Birthday Calendar after a sync.
I am using the latest Mac, iTunes and iPhone software.
Thanks in advance to any users who respond.

    Hi Doug,
I have a calendar labeled "US Holidays Apple." It does accurately show the holidays on my iPhone and iCal. I am not sure about MM, since I have pretty much given up on that for awhile (too frustrating). I am not sure where i obtained the holiday calendar, but it seems more reliable, on the iPhone, than the Google linked holiday calendar I was using.
The specific birthdate cited is the only one that I can't get to sync. All the other birthdays and anniversaries appear to sync just fine (MM, iCal and iPhone). I suspect that it may be a bug, as suggested by another forum member (dates beyond certain [apple secret] date won't sync.
As an aside, regarding the thread you gave birth to, "...you are not alone), I have pretty much accepted that the iPhone is a POS phone (but a wonderful device). I suspect that is because they went with the low bidder for the radio component and WE got what they paid for. The only other alternative is that Apple designed or implemented the antennae poorly.
I live 1.72 miles from a 3G site and my dbm is typically -97 to -113 on 3G (week 41 build).
I am hoping the next iPhone will have a decent radio. I certainly will await reports from users prior to upgrading to the next version, since that is the only disappointing element of the device.
Your response was the first hint I had that 2.2 was on the near horizon. Glad to know that, though I do wish Apple would be more open about the changes offered in their updates.
    Great to hear from you.

  • Birthday calendar on iPhone

Is there a way to synchronize the Birthday Calendar with the iPhone? My other calendars all synchronize, but as that one is part of the contacts it does not. Contacts are synchronized with birthday information, but it does not put it into the calendar on the iPhone.

If you have a MobileMe account and you have Calendars on for over the air syncing, you can't sync direct with iCal via the iTunes sync process. You can do one or the other only, not both at the same time.
At the present time, syncing subscribed calendars over the air is not supported, and the iCal Birthdays calendar is a subscriber calendar. Syncing subscribed calendars will be supported beginning with firmware update 3.0 to be released this summer.
What I have done in the interim - I exported the subscribed Birthdays calendar from iCal followed by importing the exported calendar as a standard calendar. You can't have two iCal calendars with the same name, so I named the new calendar for the import - B-Days. This calendar is synced with the MM cloud which in turn becomes available on my iPhone. This calendar isn't updated when adding a birthday for an existing contact or for a new contact, but this is temporary until subscribed calendars are supported for over the air syncing with firmware update 3.0.

  • Sync of iCal to Calendar in iPhone off by 1 hour

This problem has just come up in a 2 week old iPhone 3GS. When I enter new events in iCal and sync with iPhone, the times are one hour later in Calendar. Appears to match the advance in 1 hour of Daylight Savings Time from Nov. - March. So, entering event on Dec. 1 at 8 AM in iCal yields 9 AM event in Calendar. Help!

I had the same problem of a 1 hour offset between events on iCal/MobileMe calendars and the iPhone Cal. iCal and MobileMe calendars were right with respect to each other but the iPhone would show that event as an hour later.
I seem to have solved this issue by the following:
Go to iPhone Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Calendars>Time Zone Support
Change Time Zone Support selector to "OFF" then back to "ON".
    Exit Settings
    NB: NOT Settings>General>Date & Time
My Time Zone Support selector was "on", however Time Zone showed Etc/GMT -4
When I selected Time Zone Support to "off" and then back to "on", Time Zone changed to show "New York" (my local area). Calendar events then displayed the same times as iCal/MobileMe.

  • Duplicate Birthday calendar entries in Notification Center

I have many contacts' birthdays saved with their contact info.  This created two calendars: one "Birthdays" calendar in iCal on my Mac, and one "Birthdays" calendar in my iPhone's Calendar app.  I want to keep each of these in their respective places.
    Here's my problem:
Both show up in Notification Center.  For example, my friend Bryan's birthday is tomorrow, and it shows twice in the Notification center (once, pulled from the iOS Calendar; the other, synced from iCal).
I've disabled the imported calendar from displaying in the Calendar app (so I only see iOS's "native" entry listed on my calendar).  But it still shows both in Notification Center!  Any ideas how I can get rid of the duplicate NC entry, without deleting the calendar itself from either source?

  • Duplicate Birthday Calendars

My iphone duplicates the birthday entries on the calendar. The iPhone info tab in iTunes seems to have the option to synch Birthdays from the calendar even after i deselect all options to synch birthdays. *Is there a way to delete the Birthdays option from the iTunes:iPhone:info tab?* If I select the synch Birthdays tab, it puts the Birthdays Calendar on my iphone, but not on my iCal. If I choose to synch Birthdays in iCal I have it on iCal and on the iPhone. There are then two "Birthdays" options to select from the iTunes:iPhone:info tab.

That solution didn't solve the problem for me. I too had Birthdays showing up twice in the "Sync... Selected Calendars" list. What worked for me was disabling syncing of all info in iTunes and .Mac sync, quitting all applications and deleting the following folders:
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/
The tilde character (~) signifies your user account's home folder. Once I did that, I attempted to resync the info with the iPhone, but I found the contacts, calendars and Mail accounts lists empty as though there was nothing to sync with. So I opened Address Book and tried to sync again and suddenly all the contact groups appeared in the list. Launched iCal and tried to sync again and suddenly all the calendars appeared. Same thing with the mail accounts. Not sure if launching the seperate apps was necessary, iTunes may just have needed a bit of time to rebuild the links to the application data. Everything is working fine again and this time, I don't have duplicate Birthday calendars.
Just as a side note, those folders I deleted I believe contain cached information related to synchronization, and I believe the problem stemmed from corrupt or duplicate information which was resolved by deleting them and forcing iTunes/.mac/Sync Services to rebuild them. There is no important data stored in either folder that won't get recreated by the apps in question, although it's probably a good idea that you do a complete sync of both .mac and your iPods/iPhone before deleting them. In my case, the Mac I was using contained the 'master' databases for all apps, so I didn't hesitate to tell .mac to replace it's contents with the information on my Mac. Proceed with caution if you have multiple Macs that may not be in sync with each other.

  • How can I activate  the birthday calendar on iCloud?

I've got activate the birthday calendar on my iphone and imac, but on icloud does not appear. When I go to the address book on iCloud and select the preferences button, the window does not show all the options, and I can activate the birthday calendar...

As you have found, if you restore the calendars from a backup, iCloud merrily brings them into line with itself by deleting them.
There is a workaround for this, though it's a bit of a fandago: please see this page -
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/timemachine.html
It's written for MobileMe but I would expect the process to be the same for iCloud (a confirmation of this would be helpful so I can add that to the web page). As you have a backup anyway you can't really get into any serious problems.

  • Multiple birthday calendars when syncing with iOS

I am getting two identical birthday calendars in my iPhone/iPad calendar app after syncing with my Mac. Running the latest SW everywhere.
Any ideas on how to remove one?

on your mac, can you right click the Birthdays tab and Get info....are they from the same source?
Have enabled facetime? they also push birthdays.
try and amend one of your sources and see if it reflected in the actual calendar

  • Birthday calendar will not sync to iPhone

I have birthdays entered in Address Book on my Mac. I've enable show birthday calendar. Birthday calendar appears in the side bar as a subscribed calendar. The birthdates display in iCal on my Mac. Birthday calendar appears on my list of calendars on my phone but the birthdates will not display on the calendar. I've tried allowing MobileMe to sync and I've also turned off syncing calendars with MobileMe on the phone and tried syncing directly to the Mac. The birthdays used to display on the iPhone calendar but now they will not.
Does anyone know what I need to do to get birthdays to display on the iPhone calendar.
    Thanks.
