Displaying images in a ColdFusion Report (cfr)

I am playing around with graphs and reports. The requirement
is to be able to produce reports in PDF and/or RTF with graphs
included. Overall cfdocument may be my solution but it does not
have the rtf option.
One solution I was testing was using WebChart3D code to
create the images and then passing the location of the images into
a Cold Fusion Report for display. I did this by creating a simply
query with one column holding the location of the three graphs I
have. All the report does is display a single chart per page.*
This works great on my XP laptop but when I moved it to our
linux box I get an error saying “No such file or
directory”. I have checked both directory and file are there.
And yes it lists the correct directory and file (case matched). So
I am wondering if it is a permissions issue. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Joel
* Yes I know Report Builder allows you to create graphs.
However, we have a requirement for the graphs themselves that so
far I have not been able to meet using the Report Builder graphing
tool even though it is quite good.

Don't know if this answers your issue with report builder,
but with cfdocument, apparently ColdFusion engine must be able to
resolve embedded images and files fully. Maybe it's also the case
with report builder? The fix involves simple host file change. See
this post on CFTalk:

    I have done this many times. Eventually you miss the right syntax or you didn't grant execute to your procedure to public. Here is one of my examples you may use to compare with yours:
    SELECT NULL download, related_documents, subject,
           || get_category_type (category_type)
           || category_type,
           || get_subcategory_type (subcategory_type)
           || subcategory_type,
           get_subcategory_description (subcategory_type) description,
           '<im g src="#OWNER#.marketing_image_display?p_image_id='
           || NVL (ID, 0)
           || '" height="'
           || NVL (display_height, 100)
           || '" width="'
           || NVL (display_width, 70)
           || '" />' img,
           SUBSTR (get_subcategory_type (subcategory_type), -1, 1) series_type,
           sort_flag
      FROM marketing_images
    WHERE NVL (TO_CHAR (category_type), '%') LIKE
              CASE
                 WHEN TO_CHAR (:p4_category_type) = '-1'
                    THEN '%'
                 ELSE :p4_category_type
              END
       AND NVL (TO_CHAR (subcategory_type), '%') LIKE
              CASE
                 WHEN TO_CHAR (:p4_subcategory_type) = '-1'
                    THEN '%'
                 ELSE :p4_subcategory_type
              END

    Hello there,
    Has anyone knew how to display an image file (BLOB) on Report using Application Express?
    You prompt reply would be appreciated.

    Once htmldb.oracle.com is available again, you may have a look in my demo application:
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:1
    In the tab section II, you will find an image display example and the corresponding

  • Display image data in a report

    Hello.
    I have a table with a BLOB column that stores images.
    I want to run a report and display the images.
    Say my blob column is named IMAGE_DATA.
    I want my report definition to be simply SELECT IMAGE_DATA FROM T; and I want the page to display the images in one neat column, one underneath another.
    I have managed to build a report that in the IMAGE_DATA column shows a hyperlink called "download" and if I click on it, it takes me to a page displaying the image file. (I use dbms_lob.getlength("IMAGE_DATA") for the report and then "DOWNLOAD:T:IMAGE_DATA:ID" in the number/date format for the report attributes)
    But that's not what I want.
    I want the report to list not the hyperlinks all saying "download" in the IMAGE_DATA column that, if clicked on, would take me to the images. I want the report to display the actual images in the report itself.
    Is it possible? If so, what's the magic sause recipie?
    Thank You
    Boris

    Hello Boris,
    You can use something like
    decode(nvl(dbms_lob.getlength(p.product_image),0),0,null,'<img src="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P8_PRODUCT_IMAGE',p.product_id)||'" height="75" width="75" />') img
    in your select statement.
    See the documentation and/or [this blog post|http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2008/07/show-blob-of-other-table-in-apex-form.html].

  • Displaying image from database in report

    I need to include a picture (company logo) in numerous reports. This logo will be stored in an MS SQL Image field in a table (this bit I have already sorted out).
    What I'm wondering is, what is the best way to retrieve this image from the database? Do I just include it in the view the report runs off? I'm hesitant to do this, as the view may return back hundreds of records, which means (I think) it will be sending the image along with it hundreds in time.
    In short:
    1) What is the best way to pass an image to a report.
    2) If I include the Image field in a view which returns back hundreds of line, will the image be returned also hundreds of time, causing network congestion/performance issues?
    3) If so (2), is there a way of sending the image only once, no matter how many rows are in the returned view?
    Thanks.

    Hi Shanon,
    We can display the image by making it a local copy on your machine.
    If it is possible to  get the image saved on local copy.
    If we place the image in detail section then it would return one record.
    As the image is from Database, so it would hit the database very time when you refresh the report and place it in Report Header or report fotter.
    So, place your logo as an OLE object in report and would reduce processing time.
    Regards,
    Naveen.

  • Displaying images in forms and reports

    Hello,
    I would like to upload images into a table and then display them in a form or a report along with other details with that image. In essence I want another column along with a current table and that colomn should be able to store images.
    I have not used images in Oracle before so blobs are new, but if you could please tell me how to go about finding the answer.

  • Images in a interacitve report

    Hello,
    one question:
    Is it possible to display a image in a interative report?
    I did this already in a classic report by using:
    CASE
    when ("Number" > 1) then '<img src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#red.JPG" alt="RED">'
    when ("Number" <= 1) then '<img src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#green.jpg" alt="GREEN">' end as "Trafficlight"
    This worked perfect in the classic report. But when I use this for the interactive report, it displays just the text, ("img src.... ") but shows no image.
    Maybe the interactive report can't show any images?
    Thanks for your help,
    LISA :-)

    Hi Lisa,
    Yes it is possible to display images in the Interactive Report. If you are just seeing the text "img src..." check the Report Attributes to see if the 'Display Text As' is set to. It should be Standard Report Column.

  • How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?

    Hi,
    In Report builder 10g, I would like to create a Report with Form Line Style and this report included a Image field.
    I can choose this Style only when Select Report type is Paper Layout. Because, If I choose Create both Web & Paper Layout or Create Web Layout only then in the next Style tab 03 option Form, Form letter and Mailing Label be Disabled.
    But in Paper Layout, my report can not display Image field.
    I tried with Web layout and all the other Styles (Except 03 mentioned be Disabled) then all Styles are displayed Imager field OK.
    How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?
    I was change File Format property of my Image field from text to Image already in Property Inspector. But report only showed MM for my Image field.

    Here you go..Just follow these steps blindly and you are done.
    1) Create a year prompt with presentation variable as pv_year
    2) Create a report say Mid report with year column selected 3 times
    - Put a filter of pv_year presentation variable on first year column with a default value say @{pv_year}{2008}
    - Rename the second time column say YEAR+1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)+1
    - Rename the second time column say YEAR-1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)-1
    Now when you will run Mid Report, this will give you a records with value as 2008 2009 2007
    3) Create your main report with criteria as Year and Measure col
    - Change the fx for year column as CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)
    - Now put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
    Relationship = greater than or equal to any
    Saved Request = Browse Mid Report
    Use values in Column = YEAR-1
    - Again,put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
    Relationship = less than or equal to any
    Saved Request = Browse Mid Report (incase it doesn't allow you to select then select any other request first and then select Mid Report)
    Use values in Column = YEAR+1
    This will select Year > = 2007 AND Year < = 2009. Hence the results will be for year 2007,2008,2009
    This will 100% work...

  • Display image in report page but just a link if file is not an image

    Hello,
    I've been working on displaying an image in a report page but need to add some logic.
    I would like to be able to call the image using a Region Source of type SQL instead of the HTML Expression. The reason for this is because I need to use logic to determine if the file is an image or not and to determine wether to show a thumbnail or just a link. I did find a "GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC" Function on the internet that suggests that I could do this but I need some help in making it work in my application.
    Here it is as a Region Source of type SQL:
    SELECT ID,
    NAME,
    CASE WHEN NVL(dbms_lob.getlength(document),0) = 0
    THEN NULL
    ELSE CASE WHEN attach_mimetype like 'image%'
    THEN '<img
    src="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'" />'
    ELSE '<a
    href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'">Download</a>'
    end
    END new_img
    FROM TEST_WITH_BLOB
    If anyone can help me with this that would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    LEH

    John,
    The problem is that I do not know how to use the "GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function". I never got it to work but the HTML Expression did work for me. If you know how the GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function works then that would be helpful. I don't think it would be helpful if I posted my example on apex.oracle.com. But here is the information I have on the GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Function
    As an alternative to using the built-in methods of providing a download link, you can use the APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC function. One advantage of this approach, is the ability to more specifically format the display of the image (with height and width tags). Please note that this approach is only valid if called from a valid Oracle Application Express session. Also, this method requires that the parameters that describe the BLOB to be listed as the format of a valid item within the application. That item is then referenced by the function.
    See Also:
    "About BLOB Support in Forms and Reports" in Oracle Application Express Application Builder User's Guide
    Syntax
    FUNCTION GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC (
        p_item_name           IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
        p_v1                  IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
        p_v2                  IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
        p_content_disposition IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL)
        RETURN VARCHAR2
    Parameters
    Table 1-28 describes the parameters available in GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC function.
    Table 1-28 GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC Parameters
    Parameter Description
    p_item_name
    Name of valid application page ITEM that with type FILE that contains the source type of DB column.
    p_v1
    Value of primary key column 1.
    p_v2
    Value of primary key column 2.
    p_content_disposition
    Specify inline or attachment, all other values ignored
    Example
    As a PLSQL Function Body:
    RETURN '<img src="'||APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC('P2_ATTACHMENT',:P2_EMPNO)||'" />';
    As a Region Source of type SQL:
    SELECT ID,
           NAME,
           CASE WHEN NVL(dbms_lob.getlength(document),0) = 0
                THEN NULL
                ELSE CASE WHEN attach_mimetype like 'image%'
                          THEN '<img
    src="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'" />'
                          ELSE '<a
    href="'||apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P4_DOCUMENT',id)||'">Download</a>'
                          end
            END new_img
       FROM TEST_WITH_BLOB
    The previous example illustrates how to display the BLOB within the report, if it can be displayed, and provide a download link, if it cannot be displayed.Thanks
