Displaying Images (thumbnails & larger version)

I am at a lost as to how to display images for my site. I
want to display images in thumbnail format that have rollover to a
larger version of that image. I also want the larger image to
display on the same page next to the thumbnail.
Also, what is the best way to make all thumbnails &
rollover image the same size?

You could use a batch process to ensure you're images and
thumbnails are all the same size.Just go to File > Batch Process
and play with the options that come up.
As for the first part of your question, you'll want to
explore options in either regular HTML, JavaScript, or Flash. A
third party program would most likely save you plenty of headache.
Search for relevant keywords at hotscripts.com.
Fireworks is a graphics program, and cobbling together some
kind of rollover effect with it to display your photos in a gallery
is only going to create more problems than it solves.

jpgs show, pdfs show but the thumbnail for psd are blank

Hi, thank you again for all of your suggestions of workarounds. I appretiate it, however, it's not really what I was asking for
Besides, telling me that Adobe has to comply to some arbitrary Microsoft BS is just ridiculous.
First off, why the hell is Microsoft to force you, Adobe, to implement a file open dialog the way you like? I call you on this! This is one hell of a bull s**t!
Here, a few examples just to stir the BS a bit more:
3ds Max (made by Autodesk, one of the largest software developers there is) also on Windows.
This is Nuke (made by The Foundry), a high-end compositing application that runs on a variety of OSes, incl. OS X and Windows!
Oh and by the way, this is Illustrator CS6. Made by Adobe, in case you were wondering:
So, please, tell me again how you were forced by Microsoft to remove the tiny little preview image in Photoshop CS6, I'd love to hear your story over and over again, it amuses me.

  • How to display large versions of thumbs in a scrolling gallery?

Figured out my original question (different thread title)!
Since I can't delete my post I might as well ask if anyone knows of
a good tutorial for making a scrolling gallery display enlarged
    versions of the thumbs.

Thanks Jon! Got it all together..almost (of course!)
Everything works perfect when I run the SWF file from
Windows. My gallery scrolls and when I click on the thumbs
(buttons) a larger version shows up in the space I placed the
loader just as I want. Great!
However....when I insert the file into a webpage (using DW
Insert>Media>Flash) and then preview it in a browser, the
thumbnail scroller loads and works fine, BUT when I click on the
thumbs (the cursor does change to a hand and the over state
appears) the external Jpegs don't load! I've copied and pasted the
images in multiple locations to make sure that's not the issue.
    Any ideas??

  • TIFF images are displayed as thumbnails but will not open for editing

I have noticed a problem with my iPhoto 7.xx
iPhoto displays the thumbnail of TIFF files but when it is selected (for editing as an example), iPhoto displays a grey circle with a black question mark. This happens with TIFF images from any source (multiple camera, scanner, etc). The TIFF files are NOT in raw format.

Open the file with Preview and do a Save As. Either change the format or keep the tiff. That should fix the files so they can be viewed normally in iPhoto. If the problem is due to an alpha channel in the file this will fix the problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Immediately after updating Acrobat Pro XI to the latest version, the software no longer displays imags in pdf docs.

Immediately after updating Acrobat Pro XI to the latest version, the software no longer displays images in pdf docs.  All the boxes where images are supposed to be are solid grey.  Old documents that worked are no longer displayed correctly and new documents I make do not display images.  All grey boxes.  Worked fine before the update.  Suggestions?

    Hi precious_star,
Could you please let me know what version of OS are you using.
Open Acrobat and go to "Edit > Preferences > Page Display" and check whether 'Show large images' option is checked.
Is this issue specific for one PDF?
If possible, please share the file with me via email so that I can also check at my end.
I have sent you a message with my contact id details.
    Hope to get your response.

In the new version  of Adobe Flash Player 11.5.502.110 the images are not displayed. In previous versions they are displayed. Tested on several computers. This is not a local problem. This is a problem of Adobe. The bad news is that the early versions are very hard to find and reinstall it.
Many different systems tested. And all browsers.
Now there is no big image.

I have tested this on 3 different systems and the problem is the same. I have not updated my FP for IE. There, the older FP still works well.

Latest flash version will not display images or video in 2 x Windows 7 Pro 64bit machines, 1 x Windows 7 Home Premiums, and 1 x XP SP3 under VMWare Workstation 7. Problem plagues Firefox, Chrome, and IE on all systems. Also running Norton Security from Comcast on all machines. Disabling does not appear to help. Suggestions?

Not sure, this is the one that I really want to view. I am using the latest 11.6 ending in 168. Curious you got the images. The product ones act like they should be displaying for me but don’t. Can you do a capture of the images? The text with small images sometimes comes through and sometimes not. I wonder if there is a problem on the server end.
When I talk to the Customer Service people they claim to have no reports of problems, but like the sports pro about to be traded, they may be the last ones to know…

  • Clicking an image in Rendo gallery should reveal larger version - but doesn't

When I click on the image in the Renderosity gallery, a larger version of that image should open in a new window - but instead I'm getting this:
    [http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg314/franontheedge/Computer%20PC%20Problems/PersonasFault.jpg PersonasFault/ImageWindowFault]
What do I need to do to fix this?<br />
Is it to do with "PersonasRotator"? If it is, how do I destroy "PersonasRotator"? Unless it's fixable without destroying it.

You're using the new layout, so it's File | Options | Options (instead of 'Tools'). If you right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Menu Bar" you get the old layout with the text links. I just prefer the latter that's all. Anyway....
Safe Mode is only intended to be a troubleshooting tool. If disabling add-ons enabled Firefox to function properly, then half the battle has been won.
What you now have to do is to start it in Safe Mode again, but this time, checkmark the option "'''Disable All Add-ons'''". Then click the button called "'''Make Changes and Restart'''".
Next, click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Add-ons'''. You'll get a screen which looks something like the one you see in the screenshot (from my own setup) except they will all be greyed out.
Where you see the "''Disable''" buttons to the right of each add-on, it will say "'''Enable'''" instead. What you have to do here is to click "Enable" one-at-a-time and check on your gallery site until the problem recurs. You'll know then that the previous add-on you re-enabled is the culprit. Laborious I know, but that's the only way of doing it I'm afraid.

  • Thumbnails show up but not the larger version

I recently started getting a problem when I view my pictures. I have the thumbnails but the larger version is replaced by a box with an ! in it. I've dumped albums and reloaded but it still happens. I can individually look at each picture from the originals library using Preview but still can't view in iPhoto. Any suggestions?

To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find there the Originals folder. From there drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Also, finding files is very easy: There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, produces a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Finally, in the iPhoto Window you can rename Rolls using the info pane (click on the 'i' button lower left, the name and date fields are editable), and these changes are reflected in the Finder.

  • Safari Version 6.0.5 (8536.30.1) is not displaying images.

  • How can I get iPhoto to display ONLY file numbers of pictures and not document titles when displayed as thumbnails?

I am a pro photographer and I've never used iPhoto. I use a combination of Adobe's Bridge, Lightroom & Photoshop programmes.  I've sent a disk of images to a client and they cannot see the file numbers of the images.  Their version of iPhoto only displays the document title that I have embedded in the metadata when importing the images into Bridge.
When I ran a test and imported the same images into my version of iPhoto(7.1.5, since you ask) some of the thumbnails displayed the file number while others displayed the document title.  Why does this happen?  Can I make it stop?  How do I make iPhoto display just the file number in thumbnail mode and not the document title?
When I view the images in Bridge, all I see is the file number but I can't convince the client to use the programme even though they have it.  Any help/guidance will be very gratefuly received.
    Many thanks,
    Adam.

In every version prior to iPhoto 11:
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File...
    In iPhoto 11:
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original...

  • HT1553 I restored my hard drive from time machine. Why is iPhoto not displaying images properly?

I restored my hard drive from time machine after power blinks corrupted the file system so badly that disk utility could not repair it. Since then, iPhoto has not displayed images correctly. Events are there, and blank squares are shown, but that's all. I rebuilt small and all thumbnails and permissions -- I think the top three or four options in the iPhoto rebuild utility, which took five hours to do but which seems not to have changed anything. The iPhoto library is still more than 100GB, so the photos are there. I didn't choose rebuild from backed up --- whatever the final option on the rebuild menu offers -- because that seems to be appropriate only when a backup is interrupted. Could certainly do it, though. How do I get iphoto behaving again? I have full time machine backups saved automatically and another fairly recent copy on a separate hard drive stored remotely. Thanks for whatever help anyone can provide. I've looked at existing questions and solutions without success so far.

What version of iPhoto and system are your running?  Since you've tried rebuilding with iPhoto give this a try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If you have an external HD you might want to have the rebuilt copy created on it unless you have well more than 100 GB available on your boot drive.

  • Problem in displaying images one by one in JList

I have a problem in displaying images one by one in Jlist. I want to show 100 images as a thumbnailview in jlist but it is talking too much time to show all the images after scalling 100 images to thumbnail view and making it into ImageIcon. So, i thought that it would be better way to show one by one after scaling it into thumnailview. But my renderer is getting calling after 100 images scaled down and setting into list. I have posted my code 2 days back but there is no reply.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=789943
I donno where i am missing in this code.
Plz suggest me some solution for it.

Where is the scaling done? In the ListCellRenderer? Regardless of where that is being done, I assume you are caching the scaled images after you scale them, right? If not, consider adding some sort of caching.
    This should do the trick...
Rework your ListCellRenderer to check to see if a scaled version of the image is available. If not, start a thread to do the scaling and create an ImageIcon. In the meantime, while that thread is running, have the renderer return some sort of stock icon, like a little generic image icon. When the scaling thread completes, make a call to repaint() on the JList so the cell renderer gets re-asked for the icons. This time around, the renderer should notice that a scaled version (the ImageIcon) is available. Return that. So, this method doesn't guarantee that the images will be produced in order, 1...2...3..., but it will return images as they become available, and the overall JList rendering won't wait until all 100 are ready. If you want them returned in order, just do all of the scaling in a single thread and queue up the images to be scaled, in order.
I hoped this helps. (If it does, please throw me some Duke Dollars.)
