Displaying Login name in Application

Hi, all my applicaitons currently show the login of the user in the top right corner of the screen next to the logout link. Is there any way to customise this so I can show the actual name of the user stored in the database instead of their login name?Perhaps along with the date of their last login?

Hi,
Create application item and compute value you like use. Then go edit your page template and replace substitution &APP_USER.or#WELCOME_USER# with your application item.

Login Names always display

Hello!I'm unsure if this is an issue or a feature. Skype shows login names instead of display names unless I have them added. As an example, supposing a user has the login name example000, and the display name The Best Example, it defaults to showing example000. To get it to display The Best Example, I must add the user to my contacts. I am in a couple group chats and haven't added everyone. It seems everyone else defaults to seeing display names. Is there some setting I'm missing, since I went through Options and failed to find a solution myself? I'd prefer to default to seeing display names instead of login names - it's hard to keep track of who's who. I did think it was an issue with my settings and reset everything, but it still continues to show login names. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype too, but the issue remains. Can someone help me? Thanks!

Hi Ashok,
I wouldn't change the users logon name, I would instead create an application item which is set to the user's freindly name on login.
This could be displayed as a navigation bar entry, but as navigation bar entries are by definition navigation links, this could get confusing if it doesn't actually link to anything. it would probably be better if you changed the template to display the application item next to the navigation bar entries.

'Incorrect Login Name' error after migrating application in planning

Hi,
We are doing a migration to Planning 9.2.1 from a pre-system 9 version (3.5), using sql server 2000 as repository
System 9 is installed in a fresh new server, and we are copying the applications/repositories from the old server.
The admin user is the same in old installation and in new one.
At the moment, all products are installed in the same server
We have already sucessfully migrated the essbase applications, including substitution variables and users
We had a problem creating a new application in planning, reading these forums we added External Authentication to Shared Services, and created application succesfully.
We created the UDL for old database in SQL server and new essbase. Test connection was succesfull
Created DSN based on UDL, test connection was succesfull
We inserted application to migrate into PLN database, table HSX_DATASOURCES
Saved SID for admin user (5001)
Opened Desktop Planning, and opened the aplication.
We got the 'upgrade application' message, and we upgraded it. No errors reported.
We replaced the SID with the previously saved one. Actually, they are the same SID
Now, when we try to open the migrated application in Desktop Planning, we get a 'Failled to Open application: M_09 Incorrect login name'
We have already verified that the admin user id dbowner of the database in sql server 2000
The event log only says the following
Error*16*HypAdmin*4/15/2009 11:54:12 AM*CHspSession.cpp*Line 119*Incorrect login name*
Any help will be appreciated!
P.S. please excuse my writing skills, I am not a native english speaker.

Please nevermind my previous post. I didn't read carefully enough, that the SID to save and copy was from the newly created applciation, not from old app. Now everything worls ok.

Displaying the name of iPhoto library

I have a large number of different iPhoto libraries, and was wondering if there was some way to display the name of the Library in use. I have given them all different names, and can usually tell which one I am in, but not always.
iPhoto insists on calling each one "Library" in the information pane. I've looked through the responses to this question in the iPhoto 5 section (i.e. "can't do it") but, now that iPhoto offers multiple library support, you'd think this would be addressed.
Th causes of my problem are twofold: 1) I often duplicate libraries and then split them by deleting different film rolls from each and 2) I'm getting old, and my memory is not what it once was, so I tend to forget which of the two libraries I've opened and which files should be deleted.
Any suggestions?

Yes if you use iPhoto Library Manager to manage your multiple libraries as you can see here. iPLM adds the library title to the top of iPhoto's window when you go thru iPLM. It will also let you copy albums or rolls between libraries and keep the keywords and comments like this.
I have my workflow setup to always go thru iPLM so I always know exactly which library I'm opening. My memory isn't good enough to remember the last one I had opened.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. One login for multiple applications

Hi,
I was using HTMLDB 1.6 and followed the following guidlines: one login multiple applications for one login to multiple applications. Basically I set the cookie name the same for both applications. It worked.
Now I've upgraded to HTMLDB 2.0 and this doesn't work anymore. I need to login to each application. Any way around this?

of course I am opening page 9 in a new window. I never had a problem with this but today, in a demo to some executives, the new window apparently came up with the login page and not page 9. Would this be due to a browser setting? Unfortunately, I don't have much info about the laptop they were using.
The demo was still a success!

Need to remove Authentication Source Category from login name

We are synchronizing with an LDAP and need the loginname to NOT include the auth source category, but cannot find an option to do this. The LDAP is called passport. After synch the user's login name is passport\jtokeeffe. We have a script to remove the passport prefix but every time we run the LDAP job to only bring in NEW users, it resets all the existing user's loginnames. The problem is, the username that is available in the Request object from the JSR168 container has "passport\jtokeeffe" as the username. Our portlets interact with many different databases and other applications that we are passing user login info to, so we would have to change tons of code to strip of the prepended "passport\". Do we have any other option???

One option would be to write a simple PWS that is run after the AWS that sets a user property called, say, "shortlogin". Then you can pass that property to your remote tier and use it in your portlets. Unless you are sending credentials to your portlets via Basic Auth. Are you?

Webapp authentication failed when using chinese characters as login name

Hello,
I have tried webapp authentication on tomcat and oc4j, via BASIC and FORM auth-method. All failed when the login name contains non-English characters. It seems an encoding issue, therefore, I also tried to change the page encoding of the login form to utf-8. None of the above is successful. Is there any solution? I really appreciate any help!

How do I get character viewer to display the names of the radicals in Japanese, as they were until Lion

In Leopard, Character Viewer displayed the names of the radicals of Japanese characters in Japanese.
Now I have Lion, the radicals all have English names which are totally different and impossible to search phonetically. I can't find a way to choose the language of the Character Viewer. Do I have to set the whole iMac to use Japanese as its basic language? That would be a pain for everything else.

If you put Japanese at the top of the Langauge tab list, but do not logout/login, then only newly opened apps will appear in Japanese. That way you can get only Character Viewer in Japanese. Maybe this will also work

Another approach would be to open the Character Viewer app and modify its .lproj folders.
If you still have a copy of Leopard, you may be able to transplant its Character Viewer app to Lion and use it as an independent app.

I'd like to display the fully qualified Active Directory Login Name instead of the LastName, First Name:

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the cmdlets I'm using are part of the Active Directory module. You'll need to install the RSAT (Win7+) to use them.
If you'd rather stick with your DirectorySearcher methods instead of moving to the AD module, you can adjust your output by using something like this instead:
