Displaying Medium Text in Variable screen (WAD)

Hello Experts,
When I run one of my reports in BEx, the input help for an infoobject shows key, Short Description and Medium Description. But the same report when I run in WEB it does not show the Medium Description but only the key and Short Description is getting displayed. I have selected short and medium description for that infoobject at all the levels.
Could you please tell me how to show also the Medium Description along with in WEB input help.
Thanks a lot.
Rajat

Arun,
I am using BW 3.0B. The default display is specified in BW BEx Tabstrip in IO Definition (in RSA1) is Medium Text.
My problem is: When I run the report on Web and select the value for characteristic variable of this infoobject (by clicking on the browse link next to text box) , I see Key and Short Text in the list. Whereas my Client requirement is that he wants to see Key and Medium Length Text in the Variable option list.
On BEx Analyzer, i can see Key, Short Text and Medium Text in the Variable slection screen. But it is not giving the same result on Web.
I have checked all the properties in web template.. like data provider, web template, result table properies.. I also tried to change BEx description property to Medium text as well. But it is not working.

    Hi James,
for infoobject Location you can swith to both key and Text at variable screen.

  • Hi, unable to display full text on selection screen

    hi all
please any one tell me how one can display full text on selection screen because whatevery i have defined in text for selection screen variable is not displaying full text, some letters are missing.

    Poste(s) du document de facturation
above text i want to display on selection screen.
but only  Poste(s) du document de factur
is displying. some letters are missing
    please try to solve this
    thanking in advance

    Hi Raj,
    Check this..
    SELECTION-SCREEN COMMENT fmt name.
    Additions
    1. ... FOR TABLE dbtab
    2. ... FOR FIELD f
    3. ... MODIF ID mod
    4. ... ID id
    Effect
Generates a comment on the selection screen. For the name name , there are two options:
name takes the form TEXT-xxx where xxx is a three-character name for a text symbol. In this case, the contents of the text symbol are displayed at runtime, i.e. the text cannot be changed dynamically. name is another eight-character name. Here, you create a field with the name name in the length specified in the format fmt< /> and it is then generated as an output field on the selection screen. The contents of these comments must therefore be set at runtime (e.g. at INITIALIZATION or - in the case of comments in the database include program DBldbSEL - in the routine INIT of the database program SAPDBldb . They can also be changed when the selection screen is being processed.
    Note
The field name is generated automatically and so cannot be defined with DATA .
With comments, you must always specify a format fmt (see variant ULINE ).
    Note
You must program a new line yourself via the format fmt .
    <b>Example
    SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF LINE.
      SELECTION-SCREEN COMMENT 10(20) TEXT-001
                       FOR FIELD PARM.
      SELECTION-SCREEN POSITION POS_LOW.
      PARAMETERS PARM LIKE SAPLANE-PLANETYPE.
    SELECTION-SCREEN END OF LINE.
This code displays a 20-byte long comment followed by the parameter at the normal position ( POS_LOW ) on the same line. If the user presses F1 for both objects, the documentation of SAPLANE-PLANETYPE is displayed.</b>

  • Display message in BEx variable screen in 7.0

In BEx 3.5 I was able to display a message to the user when they enter a value they are not authorized for in the variable screen.  This was done using the function module RRMS_MESSAGE_HANDLING in the variable user exit at step 3 and raising no_replacement.
This is no longer working as of BEx frontend 7.0.  Is there a way (or different function module) I can display a message to the users on the variable screen?

  • Display medium text in a 'set filter' box

I have a hierarchy and populated all levels of text(small, medium, and long).  We want to display the medium text when reporting.  I have made all the required changes to display the medium text of the hierarchy for reporting.  That works great!  However, when you hit the 'set filter value', the filter box shows the hierarchy with the small text.  Is there a way to change the text display for the filter box?
    Thanks,

  • Restricted KeyDate and Text in Variable Screen

    Hi Experts,
I have a query displaying a hierarchy. The KeyDate for the Query is used as Date in the hierarchy as well, so I can choose the according hierarchy to the date. Works fine sofar.
Now I want no keydate to be displayed, but a kind of fiscal year, and moreover, only the fiscal years to be selected.
I thought of an customer exit, but this does not work for the hierarchy selection in the variable screen. Modeling an Infoobject of type date does not work as well, as it is only a reference to 0date. Setting default values does not work either.
I now thought of an replace ment part, but I guess, I'll have the same problem, as with the customer exit.
Do you have any ideas how to customize the keydate, so a customer can choose it context wise?
Plan B would be taking the hierarchy into the webtemplate.
    thanks in advance,
    Dominik

    Hi Dominik,
Try using Customer Exit variable with User Input enabled, so that you can populate default value if required and as the variable will be displayed on selection screen you can work on the input value given by user as well.

But user wants to see "January 2007" in place of JAN.
though 0FISCPER info object has text table T009C. it has two colomns one for short text and one for medium text. and data in table is stored as below -
    Year     Period     Sh.text      Med. text
    2007      001        JAN          January 2007.
    2007      002        FEB          february 2007
In query, 0FISCPER is taking only Short text for an display settings. While it should take Medium text.
How can I solve this problem ??
    [email protected]

    Hi,
In your Infoobject, choose BEx Explorer tab, Check what selected for BEx Description, there choose Medium text instead of Short text.
       Hope this sill be helpfull

  • Lov: How to show Medium Text

    Hello,
In a webi report I am using variables which are created in the Bex query, using a variable which is creted on BEX  displays both text and key in the prompt lovs Box/Window.
I am having issues with a variable which is using a Info-object which has short description and Medium description, Looks like BO by default shows short text and key in the promptlovs Box/Window.
Is there any way I can display medium text and key in the prompt lov's?
    Thanks
    Ram

    Hi Rod,
Yep, but how can I use just the code to match with where clause?
I mean in this case I need to create a extra column with code + description to match combo code + description.
Is there any way to work around this e.g: code + description on the combo box and just use the code from the combo to perform the search.....substr( combo box) ?
    Cheers,
    Alex

  • How to... get local fox variable into WAD

    Hi guys,
we have a (technical) weird requirement to fullfill. There is a parameter (a string) we need to update several times when running our web templates. We have this parameter in our fox coding and it needs to be updated i.e. when loading the templates the first time, when buttons are triggered etc (if we use a customer exit we can not update the parameter when i.e. a button is triggered).
What do we need this parameter for? We have to display it in a text field in our templates (it must not be a text field but it has to be present all the time in these about 70 templates). However if we use a text field the best would be to link the parameter using a variable. Anyway I do not know how to set a global variable within fox coding...
What do you suggest? How can a global variable be set using fox the easiest way? Or is there any other way to display a local fox variable in WAD (using javascript or something else)?
Any helpful ideas or answers will be <removed by moderator>.

    Marcel

Your requirement didn't get very clear to me but maybe you can explore whether you can achieve it by calling an FM from inside the fox code.

    Hi Vamsi,
whenever there is write statement and you are going to display some thing the system checks for the TOP-OF-PAGE and we are helpless here
so declare your heading in the TOP-OF-PAGE only
THIS is SAP provided way of the SYSTEM bahaviour
