Displaying menus and dialogs in different languages

Mac OS X could not display menus and dialogs in Polish even when it was selected as the primary language. In other words, Finder was operating only in languages further in the language preference list. I wonder whether users of Macintosh computers sold in Poland had to really use them in English or another language.
My particular problem is that I am passing iMac indigo running OS X Panther to my father who lives in Poland and knows only Polish. I searched left and right and I can't find anyway to make menus and dialogs to display in Polish. Obviously, Polish dictionary for Finder is missing (my Mac has English and German). But somehow I can't believe that Apple was successful selling computers in Poland without Polish language. Some applications in Panther, like iTunes, do speak Polish.

I would buy Polish OSX Panther if I was sure that this solves my problem.
Apple itself never provided a Polish localization for Panther, which was released 5 years ago. But at that time I believe that http://www.apple.com/pl/ did have a special add-on to provide this. You would need to ask them whether they still have that available someplace.
It would be a lot better to run Leopard, which has Polish included, if possible.

The MacBook's hard drive lacks the necessary hardware drivers to boot the MacBook Pro even though it has a much newer OS on it; that's why simply moving it into the Pro doesn't work. Presumably you have a very old MB Pro, because only the very first MB Pro model (produced January to May 2006) was ever offered with an 80GB hard drive. Are you sure you want to move your big drive into such an old machine? The MacBook must be newer, because the first MacBook was introduced just as the first Pro model was discontinued.

Description not displayed when loged in with different language

We have created some queries Loging in english language . When we use a different language for logon say Portugese 'PT' the discription of the query is not dispalyed instead the technical name is displayed. This issue is same for all objects ( Infoproviders , Infoobjects etc .) .Is there any setting that should be maintained so that the object's description created in one language can be seen by login in with a different language .

yes I also working fro dutch clients
and they have develped everything in Dutch language
so whn I log on in En language I don't see desccription in English.
there is no setting by which u can see description of custom object. but for standard object we are able ti see description in English language

MACOS and Mail in different languages

I need to use MACOS and Mail in two different languages (German and English). Until now, I needed to uncheck all language options except for English. After installing 10.6 I cannot find a language option. Where has it gone?

FF 3.15 worked perfect with Snow Leopard. But everything after that, till FF 8, crashes left and right. On Facebook. And on ALL different language websites. Should I stop using FF? Heard Chrome is good.

Facebook crashes the most within few short seconds.
And NO different language websites even open.
I read online to use Safe Mode and try. I did. No change.
I read online to reset font cache or or something using atsUtil from the Terminal. I did. Nothing.
It is super frustrating. Same problem in my wife's Mac as well.
Should I stop using FF? I heard Chrome is good.

I have similar issues, although most of the time the browser only freezes for a short time.

How to get video out to display menus and apps...

I have a 'myvu for iPod', which is a little video screen in your glasses, and it displays "Videos" and "YouTube" clips fine but I can't seem to get it to display videos played in other applications like the 'TED' app, photos, cover art during music playback or the menus for navigation. How can I configure the IPod to play everything on the audio/video out instead of just YouTube and Videos?

The ipod touch can only output youtube and movies at the moment on an external display.

Fire97 is corret. It appear that you have to resetup/activate the iPod. Just slide to unlock and following the on-screen prompts.

I have the same issue now after downgrading my Flash plugin. I downgraded from 10 to 9 latest because I like using Camino and for some reason Flash 10 doesn't play nice with Camino. But all of a sudden as I use Camino 2b2 for everyday and Safari 3.2 for banking and such, the browser hangs requiring a forced quit when I close it. I've re-installed the browser twice now with all the previous folders, and preferences erased and caches emptied. I even when to re-installing 10.5.6 and it still crashes, it's odd. Maybe 10.5.7 will address this.

1) how do I change variables in different classes? My situation..

It's better to think in terms of transferring data between object, rather than between classes.
What you need is for the tab pane objects to have a reference to some common object to which the data is to be sent. This common object might be the total pane. It's generally better design to keep the data in separate objects from the presentation (in this case the totals pane), but at this stage that's probably just going to confuse you.
The simplest way to get this reference in is to the pane objects is as a constructor argument, which the constructor of your pane objects saves in a field. As you create each pane you pass it a reference and it stores that reference for when it needs to save data.
Then, when you click detect the action by which the user tells the program to store the data he's entered the pane class should call a method on the central data object, passing all the data from that pane. If there's a lot of it, wrap it up in an object (typically called a "data transfer object").
The central data object would be responsible for dealing with this data, amending totals etc.. It might delegate responsibility for updating the display to a separate total pane object.

Hi LornaLyons, when I open Firefox's Web Console (Developer menu) and reload the page, only 4 files show a 404 status, the rest of the site seems fine. (Screen shot attached)
I did reload bypassing cached files, which is Ctrl+Shift+r on Windows but probably is Command+Shift+r on Mac. Does that make any difference for you?
Could you test the site in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].

Checking for month name and number in different language?

I have to let people search for documents by date. The database is used by French-speakers as well as English-speakers. The search allows users to type in free text (because it's not just dates they might search by, though if they do type in something that's intended to be interpreted as a date, that's the only thing they're allowed to type in). So, I might get '23/Apr/2009' or '2009/04/23', for example. (I also have to allow them to submit 23.04.2009 and 23 04 2009 and any combination of the above!)
I have written a function which breaks the string into three bits, and then I work out if each bit is a year, or a month, or a day with simple rules (eg, if it's a number between 1900 and 2400, it must be the year component).
When it comes to the month, I do two things. One is obvious: is it a number between 1 and 12? The other is, is it a month name that appears in a list of 'allowed' month names. So my function does this at the start:
v_validmonths := 'january,february,march,april <and so on>';
v_validmonths := v_validmonths || ',janv,fevr,avr,mai, <and so on>';Then I do this:

    end loop;   IE, I compare the first component of the string (v_partone) with the list of allowed month names. I repeat that for the other two parts of the supplied string. As you can see, if one of the parts of the supplied string matches an allowed month name, I then try to extract the month number into a variable, using Oracle's own extract function.
And that's where my problem arises. Because although "aout" is valid French for August and is permitted by my list of valid months, the extract function fails to understand it. A simple select extract (month from to_date('AOUT','MON')) from dual, for example, gives an ORA01843 (invalid month).
How can I get the code to work with French (and German, actually) months and month abbreviations whilst also being able to understand English ones? Is there an in-built function that would allow me to do this? Or is there some way neatly to say, 'yes: AOUT is in the list, and it's month 8' without me having to rely on the extract function to work it out?
(I realise that the business requirement here is very peculiar and your first reaction will probably be "this is horrible!". I will absolutely agree with you! But this is the requirement as has been explicitly specified by the MD and I can't negotiate it away, sadly.)

Many of Oracle's date functions allow a parameter where you can override the current NLS settings only for that function call.
For example:
SELECT TO_DATE ( 'JUIL.'
                 , 'MON'
                 , 'NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE=FRENCH'
                 ) AS month
FROM    DUAL;You could also create your own table of month names
NAME     NUM     LANGUAGE
JANVIER   1     FRENCH
JANV       1     FRENCHand look up the names in this table, rather than in a string hard-coded in the function. This might be especially useful if you wanted to allow your own abbreviations or spellings (e.g., ignoring accent marks).

Why are active menus and dialog boxes disappearing/being overwritten by the active tab/page content?

Frequently when selecting a download directory/filename in the "save to" dialog the entire dialog is overwritten with the active page content. It appears the dialog has closed, but if you tab through the dialog the active field/control is written but the rest of the dialog remains hidden/overwritten. This has also happened with the "open file" dialog. The the drop down menus on the menu bar are occasionally being overwritten after being activated/pulled down. I have not been able to determine a common/specific event causing this problem.

I seem to have fixed it by putting <div class="clearfloat"></div> after the navigation bar?

Operating system and premiere in different languages

Hi there, the operating system of my computer is german but I would like to purchase premiere pro creative cloud in spanish. Could anybody tell me if this is compatible? Or would there be any problems because of language differences?

If you wish to install the software included in your Creative Cloud Membership to a different language then you will need to make this adjustment in the Creative Cloud application.
