Displaying multiple available wifi networks - a workaround

Hi...Having this trouble on a MB and MBP after upgrading to 10.5
The wifi icon menu displays ONLY the network you're connected to, not all available networks. They also don't appear in the Network Preferences / Network Name dropdown menu. I'm on tech support with Apple. It's a known issue but no fix yet.
This may not be a problem for you when there's only one available wifi network, or if you're already connected to your preferred network and don't care about the others but this bug will bite you if you want to change to a different available wifi network.
If you get bit here's a work-around (with thanks to Peter Nelson4 for suggesting it as part of a fix for an unrelated issue elsewhere in this forum):
Open Network Preferences... (from the wifi icon in the menu bar)
Assist me
Diagnostics
Yes, Continue
Select your location and Continue
Airport, and Continue
NOW you see all the available networks. Yippee!!!
Choose the one you want, and Continue
It may ask a few more questions but I was able to quit and everything seems OK.

Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Reset network settigns: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

  • Im having a hard time setting up my mini. when im prompted to the available wifi networks, no space is given for a password nor is there a place for me to use my itunes info even though its suggesting i attempt setup using my itunes account. suggestions?

    im having trouble setting up my mini. any suggestions?

    "When I'm prompted to the available WiFi networks, no space is given for a password."
    That's because you might end up choosing a network that does not require a password.
    Choose your netowork first, then, if needed, you will be prompted for a password.
    I don't understand your comment about iTunes info at all.  After you choose a network and give its password, you will be asked about Apple ID.

  • WiFi connections are unstable on multiple different WiFi networks

    Has there been any updates on the unstable WiFi connection issues with the Note 3? I have this issue with multiple different WiFi networks even though signal strength is not an issue when it happens. I picked up my Note 3 in August/Sept 2013.
    1. Work WiFi
    2. Home 2.4G channel and 5G channel
    From what I have searched so far, I am by far not the only person with this issue, but I have yet to see a fix or any kind of legitimate input  from Verizon on this issue.
    The issue even happens in SafeMode so I know its not an app that I downloaded that is causing this issue.
    Thanks

    Samsung is aware of the issue. The fix is supposedly with Kit Kat.
    They may suggest you going to a Best Buy mobile and have the software removed and put back on. Been there done that, didn't work.
    Sending a replacement out isn't going to help. It is a known software issue, and it will continue until there is a build that fixes the issue. IE: Kit Kat.
    You should have the MJE build. This software is the problem. MJ5 was no problem. If you get a replacement MJE should be on it, if not as soon as you put the SIM card in it will start to download it.

  • No available WIFI networks?

    When I go to to browse the available wifi networks, there are none showing.
    I managed to connect to the internet, by manually typing in the SSID of my router and it connected fine but it wasn't showing even though I am broadcasting my SSID.
    I cannot see any other networks available even though I can see 3 with my computer.
    I went to a hotel and tried to get onto the hotel internet and again, nothing was showing up in available networks.
    Can anyone help?

    Start with resetting your network connections. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    If you still have problems, I would do a restart and check, reset and check, and a restore if needed. If you are not familiar how to do these things, please refer to the iPod troubleshooting guide: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/troubleshooting/

  • Available WiFi Networks

    During the times when my cranky SpeedStream modem stopped functioning entirely, I tried to sign on to some of the WiFi networks that I could see in the Network Diagnostics window. There are usually about 8 of them shown in the window. First question
    I live in sprawling suburbia with the houses far apart from each other on each side of the street and the street itself is pretty wide. I thought that the WiFi networks that a homeowner sets up has a very limited range, usually not extending beyond the confines of the house. So how could it be that I see so many potential WiFi networks to sign on to?
    The second question is that when I try the same thing with my iPhone - it doesn't show any networks as being available so how do you reconcile the iMac showing 8 networks while the iPhone doesn't "see" any? Is it just a question of a much more sensitive receiver in the computer than in the phone?
    Thanks
    John

    +I thought that the WiFi networks that a homeowner sets up has a very limited range, usually not extending beyond the confines of the house. So how could it be that I see so many potential WiFi networks to sign on to?+
    Some of the answer may depend on what you mean by "range". Most modern wireless routers will broadcast a signal that may reach 150-200 feet or more depending on how many obstructions affect the signal. While it's possible to limit the broadcast power on most routers, I've yet to meet the first person who felt that their wireless signal was too strong. So, most leave their routers at max power.
    Whether or not any of these other networks you see actually have a usable signal would be open to question and they are probably secured anyway. To know more about this, you need a utility like iStumbler. It will probably only run on Snow Leopard, 10.6.x, so if you are still running Leopard, I don't think it will work.
    The iPhone requires a somewhat stronger signal with low noise to connect. If it doesn't see a network with acceptable parameters, it will ignore it.

  • Access Connections does not display available WiFi Networks

    When I click find, Access Connections only shows the network it is connected to, but not all available networks. I removed and reinstalled it and it worked for 1-2 days, but the problem came back. When you manually set up a Location Profile and you click find networks, it find's them, but on the main Access Connections page it doesn't show them.

    The latest version of Access Connections 5.50 is available for download here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73682 and it fixed the problem for me.

  • Will new available wifi networks be shown when wifi is turned off?

    In the interest of saving battery, I would like to keep Wifi off when I am not using it. If I turn it off would the alerts of new available networks still come up and prompt me to join one?

    Thank you for a prompt response. I guess that is because if the wifi is off, it cant search for it self. Would a wifi searching web app be able to search still when the wifi is off?

  • My Ipod Touch will only search for available Wifi networks for a second then stop, and it will never find any networks anywhere.

    OK I own the 1st generation Ipod touch and granted I bought it used and its pretty old, but the Wifi doesnt work at all. When I click on the checkmark box it turns on and it looks like its trying to find a connection, but it only tries for one second (literally) and then stops trying to look for a connection. It wont bring up any connection to choose from no matter where I go, it wont find one connection. Please help me this thing is driving me insane. I was told it could be a bad IP address, and that there is a way to get a new one. But How? I already reset it and restored it and nothing seems to fix it. So now I dont know what to do with it now.

    So you also rebooted your router correct?  Does the iPod still connect okay to other networks?

  • Error Code:22 when scanning for available WiFi-Networks using CoreWLAN

    Hi ,
    I use the following code to scan for Wi-Fi networks on Mac book pro , 10.6 and above OS
                                  Class pc;
                                  NSArray *interfaces;
                                  framework = [NSBundle bundleWithPath: @"/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreWLAN.framework"];
                                  if([framework load])
                            NSLog(@"Framework loaded");
      else
                                            NSLog(@"Error, framework failed to load\nAborting.");
      return NULL;
    if ((pc = [framework classNamed:@"CWInterface"]))
      interfaces = [pc supportedInterfaces];
      self.interfaceName = [interfaces objectAtIndex:0];
       airportInterface = [[pc alloc] initWithInterfaceName:[interfaces objectAtIndex:0]];
    NSDictionary *argsDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] forKey:@"SCAN_MERGE"];
    NSArray *scanResults=[airportInterface scanForNetworksWithParameters:argsDict error:&scanErr];
    My test software will work fine for about 30 to 40 mins returning the scanned Wi-Fi networks
    After 40 Minutes, i usually get an error stating
    Error code: 22, Error domain com.apple.coreWLAN.error, Error userinfo: (null)
    Can you please let me know the work around or fix for this solution.
    Regards
    Rakesh

    Hi Mike,
    We have had this problem. Please delete the change log table of the ODS in the QA or Prod system (whichever is the target for your transport request) and then reimport the transport request.
    <i>

    if generated ODS InfoSource,

  • Alert with TableView: (eg: select a wifi network)

    Can someone please point me in the right direction of implementing an alert window containing a table view?
    The only example I can think of is when you open Safari (without a known WiFi network). This shows an alert window containing a list of available WiFi networks. You can scroll and select one.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    In order to see what i'm talking about do the following:
    1) Make sure you have a WiFi Connection
    2) Go into WiFi and click the little blue icon next to your connection
    3) Select "forget this network"
    4) You should now have lost your WiFi connection
    5) Make sure your GPRS connection isn't active (modify username / password etc)
    6) Open Safari and it should struggle to load the page
    7) It will then display an Alert Window containing a scrollable table view where you can choose a WiFi network to connect too.
    This is what i'm trying to achieve.
    Thanks

  • Wi-Fi: do I need to register every time I use WiFi network?

    This is basic question but I'm not quite sure about using Edge network and WiFi network on my iPhone.
    Mostly, I set
    - WiFi "on"
    - Ask to join networks "on"
    So, always available WiFi networks come up when I use my iPhone. But I usually cancel to use it and just use iPhone on Edge network.(feel like internet is slow.)
    Do I need to register or sign-up whenever I use Wi Fi network?
    And if I see 'lock' sign with Wi Fi network, do I need to know their password? Do I need to join their WiFi network and they charge fee?
    Thanks in advance for help!

    Do I need to register or sign-up whenever I use Wi Fi network?
    Depends on the available Wi-Fi network. If at work or at the house of a friend or relative, there is no registration required but if the network is password protected, you must be given the password required to access the network.
    And if I see 'lock' sign with Wi Fi network, do I need to know their password?
    Yes - this means the network or password protected.
    Do I need to join their WiFi network and they charge fee?
    This depends on if the provider of the network requires payment for access. As an example, Starbucks uses T-Mobile for their Wi-Fi network available at each store but accessing it is not free and requires payment.
    Some independent coffee shops, chain restaurants and businesses offer free Wi-Fi access for their customers and if not password protected, all you need to do is join the network - accept it and you will have access.

  • How to see if WiFi networks are WEP or WPA in Windows 8.1 ?

    This is infuriating. Since I upgraded to Windows 8.1, there is no way to see if WiFi Security ie WEP or WPA on hovering over the network. Also I can not right click to forget the WiFi Network.  So, how do I find the security of available Wifi networks
    and manage WiFi profiles ?

    Hi,
    In Windows 8.1, some UIs for Wifi have been removed.
    You can refer to this article to manage your Wifi on Windows 8.1:
    Manage wireless network profiles

    Hope this would be helpful.

    Crazy and senseless remove every UI WIFI tool from 8.1. But why?!?
    On Windows 8 we lost the WIFI network manager there was on Windows 7. And now with 8.1 we lost the ability to forget a network too.
    No way to come back to make things with sense? Why people in 2014 have to use the DOS Prompt to cancel a WIFI network? Is this a customers OS oriented?
