Displaying Photos in Bridge

How can I get photos in folders on an external hard drive to display in Bridge? At present only those located in Users>Pictures will display. I'm in CC.
Thanks,
Fran

Double click "Computer" in the Favorites or Folder tab in Bridge. If your external drive is mounted, it will show up next to your system drive.
You can then navigate your external HDD from there.

  • Suddenly, Bridge displays photo colors wrong

I've been using Photoshop Elements for several years--frequently--like almost daily. I'm currently using elements 6.0 with Bridge. I always view my photos in bridge before doing anything else.  All of a sudden, starting last week, when I open a folder in bridge, I can see in the thumbnails that the colors are OK, but very shortly thereafter, and/or when I click a thumbnail to preview an image, it drastically changes the colors in both the thumbnails and the preview. Like--a bright red rose becomes a dull muted red. A deep purple flower becomes bright blue. It's driving me nuts. I can't find anything in Bridge preferences. I am not a user who knows a thing about "color profiles" or anything else--I tweak photos individually using fairly simple features in Elements (use the Levels tool, adjust brightness and contrast, once in a while futz with hue or intensity for the photo, stuff like that).
I haven't to my knowledge set anything globally. I haven't that I can recall installed any automatic update to the adobe products. I'm using the same camera, the same memory cards. I've never had this happen in hundreds upon hundreds of uses of bridge & photoshop, and many thousands of photos, and now it's doing it constantly.
A week or two ago I was futzing with hue & saturation on some individual photos, but that batch of photos was all fine and I didn't notice that it affected anything other than the photo I was working on. Could I have set something somewhere accidentally and never known it?  I've searched the help for bridge & elements, searched the forums and found some similar questions but they don't seem to be the same situations.
    Help me, Mr/Ms Wizards!

What you're seeing in Bridge is perfectly normal, expected behavior.
Initially, Bridge displays a thumbnail straight from the in-camera converted and embedded JPEG preview embedded in the raw file.  Then, Bridge calls upon Adobe Camera Raw to build its own rendering from the raw data themselves.  Because the rendering criteria for ACR are not designed to emulate the in-camera raw-to-JPEG conversion, there will be a definite change in the images.
I cannot speak to Elements because I don't use it, nor are most regular posters familiar with that very limited, emasculated application.  We use the full, professional-level version of Photoshop.  Elements is not the same as Photoshop.  The differences are great and varied.  Last year I did buy a license for Elements to use on a laptop, but successfully demanded my money back from Adobe.
If you're seeing a marked difference in the display of the thumbnail and the final rendering of the same after a few seconds, check your preferences.  Make sure that the box labeled "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" is NOT checked in the Camera Raw preferences.  This will minimize the differences.
You may want to trash your Bridge preferences first by launching Bridge while you hold down the Option key.  Then make sure the "Apply auto tone adjustments box"  is NOT checked.
Whenever an application begins to act weirdly "suddenly", that's a sign of corrupted preferences that need to be trashed.

  • Importing lots of photos from Bridge?

I used Bridge to rate photos inside a folder containing hundreds of photos, and then I filtered/sorted the photos in Bridge based on the rating so only those rated photos showed. How can I now import just those photos into Premiere CS6? When I try to select all of the filtered photos and bring them into CS6 it does not let me, I have to drag each photo one at a time. Is there a better way of doing this?
    Thanks in advance.

In Bridge, filter to show only the rated pix.
Open Premiere and drag the pix displayed in Bridge into PP Project Panel.
    Or...
PP > File > Browse in Bridge > Filter as above.

  • How do I move photos from bridge to photoshop?

Hi. I just moved to the CC. I used to be able to rate my photos in Bridge then double click on them and they would move to Photoshop. Instead, they open up in Windows. I'm using a PC and running Win7. Is there a setting that got messed up somehow?
    Thanks!

    Thanks. I got it.

  • Looking for iPad App for displaying photos via a projector

I'm looking for an App that will allow me to display photos using a projector yet permit manual advancing through the slides.
The included Photo app only works with the projector when in slideshow mode. As soon as I try to manually advance a photo the projector output stops.
I've seen references to Keynote but I'd rather not have to import 'x' number of photos into Keynote to be able to display them. I'm not convinced Keynote will do what I want anyway.
There's got to be an app out there somewhere that does this. Isn't there?
    Thanks.

Locking the iPad so that a user can't exit an app isn't possible for any developer to implement, since the developer kit doesn't provide that sort of access to the low-level routines in iOS. The only way to lock into a single app is to use a case/frame that covers the Home button (and turn off the gesture support in the settings in iOS 5).  A number of companies make kiosk mounts for this purpose.
    Regards.

Using Azul media player app on my ipad  Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies.  Any ideas on a fix.  I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video.  It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home  Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the  icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the  icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay

  • A few questions re displaying photos (Am I missing something?)

I am a Windows XP user with a brand new AppleTV. I'm generally happy with it but am not impressed with the way it handles photos. Am I mistaken or is there no way to do the following?
    - View subfolders of photos individually (it would seem not, based on others posts here.)
    - View a slideshow that spans more than one folder.
    - Set up a selective slideshow in advance (like a music playlist.)
    - View thumbnails of the images in a folder, and go directly to the one I want to see.
    - Jump ahead several photos in a folder instead of having to page through every single one.
    - Zoom in on a portion of a photo that I have paused.
    - Browse photos from the hard disk without syncing them.
    - View photos by metada (EXIF tags, maybe.)
I know some of the above are a bit of a stretch, but others seem pretty straightforward. Is it really so hard to display a page of thumbnails? My cheap digital camera does it when I hook it up to my TV. Am I missing some way to do any of the above? What are the odds Apple will enable them in a future update? Thanks.

I totally agree with regard to the Auto/Advanced modes. Maybe the entire idea of streaming/browsing photos from the HD could be buried in the Advanced mode and hence never be an issue for those who want to retain the interface's initial simplicity.
It seems like looping could be added so easily. I used to keep my photos in folders arranged by year (2008), containing subfolders of months (2008_01, 2008_02, etc.) which in turned contained subfolders for each day (20080101, 20080102, etc.) I wanted to be able to view each day's folder individually through AppleTV, so I have moved all the individual "daily" folders into the My Photos root level. This is all well and good (except that scrolling through that many folders is a little clunky*), but it also means that no slideshow can display photos from more than a single day. Adding one option -- "Slideshows span folders: Yes/No" would solve that problem and make it much for flexible for me (and others, I presume.)
I know, I know, I am attempting to use the device for purposes for which it was not intended. Still, it's a fun little box, especially for the price (and who knew I'd get such a kick out of watching YouTube on my tv?)
On the other hand, whoever incorporated the 24-hour limitation for watching an entire rented movie must live in a household without little children around, but that's a subject for another thread.
*Here's a crazy idea: Maybe the basic "Auto" version of the AppleTV should remain exactly as it is, and the full-featured "Advanced" mode require the purchase of an optional advanced remote control that incorporates the famed iPod clickwheel for scrolling quickly through subfolders and/or very long lists of folders?

  • JPG images not displayed correctly in Bridge and Photoshop (Mac OS)

(Note: I have copied the content of this query from the Creative Suites forum where I originally opened it.)
I am using CS4 under OSX 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G5 Quad with 23" Apple cinema display. Images which have been captured as JPG are displayed fine by Preview, but when opened in Bridge, Camera Raw or Photoshop. the colours are all "washed out". The attached screen capture should give an idea of the difference, with the upper being Camera Raw (image settings) and the lower being Preview. My monitor has been calibrated and I'm using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour space in Camera Raw and Photoshop. The colours displayed by Preview are pretty close to "real life". I find it virtually impossible to adjust the colours in Photoshop to get back to anything similar.
After opening the image in Photoshop without adjustment, and Save As JPEG with embedded color profile, Preview displays the new image the same as Photoshop. Save As JPEG without embedded color profile, and Preview displays this copy just like the original. It seems that Photoshop is making different (incorrect) assumptions about what color space to use when there is no embedded color profile. Shouldn't it assume sRGB like virtually everything else (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGB)? Or is its interpretation of sRGB incorrect? How can I fix this?

…If there is someone out there who has experience of obtaining decent colour management in CS4 on a Power PC, I would really like to know how you achieved it.
That would be yours truly, and I hasten to reply because I may have some insights that can help you too.
Just get it it out of the way, here's my setup:
Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4"); VersionCue disabled and uninstalled.—2.5 GHz Power Mac (PPC) G5-Quad; 16GB RAM; mutant, flashed 550MHz nVidia GeForce 7800GTX 1,700MHz 512MB VRAM; ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D LP SCSI card; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8 boot drives; Spotblight, Dashboard and Time Machine permanently disabled; dual 22" CRT monitors; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet; 1 FW flatbed scanner; 2 SCSI scanners (one tabloid-size transparency scanner and a film scanner); various internal & external HDs; FW Epson 2200 and Ethernet Samsung ML-2850ND printers; 2 X Back-UPS RS 1500 XS units.
I can unambiguously and in good faith represent to you that my color management, from capture to print, is as spot-on as anyone with any kind of setup can hope to achieve.  Unequivocally and without qualifications.
Now, first things first:  Forget about trying to synchronize color management across the point applications lumped together only by Adobe marketing fiat into a variety of meaningless "creative suites".  Concentrate on Photoshop.  Do not try to use Bridge to synchronize anything.
The "suites" are a totally artificial construct created by Adobe bean counters and marketing types.  The point applications (i.e. the individual programs clumsily bundled together, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) are developed independently by separate engineering teams that are not only not in the same building, but in different cities, different states of the American Union, and even in different countries.  They have very little communication among them, if any, as evidenced by repeated posts in these forums by Photoshop engineering staff urging us, the end users, to let the other teams know in their own forums that a given problem exists and is actually affecting our work.
Enough said about the cause of the problem.  The end result is that Color Management is at very, very different levels of progress and sophistication in each individual point application, with only Photoshop fully entitled to be considered state of the art.
Secondly, a disclaimer:  I have been hanging on to my CRT monitors and take care of them as Jascha Heifetz used to take care of his Stradivarius.  I don't know what I will do if I manage to outlive the usefulness and accuracy of my CRTs (unlikely at this point).  I have despaired in futile efforts to bring the luminosity of any LCD monitor down to where I would feel comfortable calibrating and profiling it.  I believe my monitors are the foundation of my color management efforts.
Especially if you have one of the extreme wide-gamut LCD or LED monitors, you'll face an uphill battle.
Be careful to avoid any version 4 icc profiles, whether canned or generated by your calibration software.  Stick to version2 icc profiles.  Ask the manufacturer of your calibration software/hardware if in doubt.
Here are some not-too-recent, but thoroughly representative screen shots of the calibration results I obtain with my monitors, which I calibrate and profile often and regularly (I validate the calibration at least several times per month).
In a nutshell, my color management practices and settings mirror those described by Bruce Fraser, Jeff Schewe, Andrew Rodney and Gary Ballard's site.  I have learned from all of them.
My working color space is ProPhoto RGB.  I choose to work with PSD and PSB files.  As a long-time, rabid JPEG hater, I only rarely deal with JPEGs, using them sporadically to illustrate a point in this forum or elsewhere in the web.  My main output consists of prints.
I only deal with tagged image files (files with an embedded color profile) and often recommend beating up with a baseball bat any moron that hands you an untagged file—figuratively of course, but I find the expression gets my point across unambiguously.
Following is a screen shot of some of my pertinent settings:
Note that I have never bought into the "suite" concept myself.  I do have and routinely use Adobe Illustrator 10.x, InDesign 2.x and Acrobat Professional 8.x, but they are all older, independent versions of each point application, licensed at different times.
Be further advised, that the answer to many problems offered by Adobe engineers often is not to install VersionCue, or uninstall it, or at least disable it.
Also, as outlined at the beginning of this post, concentrate on Photoshop, not on synchronizing applications that can't really communicate with each other, despite the claims of Adobe marketing hacks to the contrary.
One big caveat, do not fall into this trap:

You either want to learn, or you don't.  You either want to solve your problems, or you don't.
When you start arguing instead of studying, questioning advice instead of following it and detecting where you went wrong, you're on the right track to nowhere.  That attitude will get you there fast.  Remember you are the one with the problem, and only you can acquire the discipline to learn how to solve it.
Go ahead and ask me anything that is not clear, just don't argue with me please, and don't tell me why you think Fraser, Rodney, Ballard and I are wrong.  You see, I am not experiencing any problem that needs fixing.  I have an interest in helping you, but not in hearing about your speculations, theories or conclusions.
    Good luck.

  • Best Way To Display Photos On HDTV?

I would like to display photos on a HDTV (16:9 aspect ratio, 1280x720 pixel max) at the highest possible resolution.
The best photo quality, I assume, is obtained by connecting a computer’s DVI output (or a networked media server) directly to the HDTV’s DVI/HDMI/component video input, but my iBook doesn't have DVI out nor do I have a media server.
So the next option seems to be to burn the photos to a disc and play them through a DVD player, but from what I've read iDVD only supports resolutions of 720x540 (4:3) or 854x480 (16:9). And in fact the photos I've burned to disc using iDVD look fuzzy and are not HD quality. Is there any better way to burn them to disc and display something closer to the HDTV’s maximum resolution of 1280x720?
Does some form of photo CD or Roxio Toast’s Motion Pictures allow the display of higher resolution photos?

    Hi Ted
i have checked Roxio's support and it states that you require an image from a 3 megapixel or higher camera to get the desired resolution for HD. toast 7, if you have it supports HD resolution of 720p(progressive) and 1080i(interlaced). so its recommended that when you create your masterpiece choose 720p which supports a resolution of 1280x720 and this setting is only available if you choose 16:9 instead of 4:3.

    Are you seeing this
when you double click on a thumbnail file?  If so it's an indication that the file path/link between the thrumbnail and original, full sized file has been broken.  Therefore, and assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later, try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.
