Displaying Shutter Speed in the New Format

I've looked at all the menus (Preferences, Loupe/Grid View, etc) and searched the forum, but I can't seem to find how to display the shutter speed (and I believe F stop as well) in the alternative format (ie if displaying "1/200" the display will render "1/200" in a smaller font that is more of a traditional photographic way to view.)
Any help appreciated!

If using a Mac you'll find that the Preference labelled Typographic Fractions does what you appear to be seeking (see screenshot). I can't recall if Windows supports this particular feature, but it does have a font smoothing option (same dialog) that "might" help.

  • HT1399 I just downloaded the newest version of itunes, and when I connect my ipod nano (3rd gen), I can no longer see my playlists (on the left hand side). I hate the new format...any way to revert back to the old one?

I just downloaded the newest versionof itunes. Now when I plug in my ipod, I can no longer see my playlists (listed on the left hand side). The new format is very confusing! How do I drag and drop songs into specific playlists I have?  Is there a way to revert back to the old itunes?

I had the same question. Someone answered perfectly here post https://discussions.apple.com/message/20575126#20575126
The answer was click View > Show sidebar. Devices and playlists will display in the left sidebar once again.

  • The new format is just harder to use

The new format, imho, is just harder to use. You need to click all over the place after logging in to see changes to the discussions you've contributed to, to locate discussion groups, etc. The old site was just more user friendly, though not as pretty.
I for one would like the option to use and see the old interface.

    Hi, Marlinespike -
I can't find my last posts or my last questions. I don't have a clue as to how to find anything.
Copy/pasting a reply I gave to someone else a couple of days ago here, with modifications...
If you go to the main page of this site (https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa) and then the Your View (personalize) tab—which you should set as the default—you can set yourself up to watch pretty much anything you're interested in, including all of the topics you're participating in.
To watch your own topics, choose the Watch A User widget and drag that widget down into the body of the page, placing it wherever you like.
Once you've placed the widget, click the disclosure triangle in the upper right and choose 'Edit this widget.'
Next, enter your name in the Username field. (It defaults to Yourself.)
Give your widget a custom title, select which categories of your content you'd like to appear in the widget, and enter how many results you'd like to appear in the widget (max is 100)...
    Click Save Properties, and voilà...
Finally, look back at the top of the page, and click Publish Layout, and you're done.
(Note that for all of the available information to appear in this widget, you have to choose a layout for your home page that includes at least one column that's half the width of the page or larger....)

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • General shutter speed of the camera in iPhone 3GS?

I'm well aware that the shutter speed in the above can't be controlled by the user, however, does anybody know WHAT the shutter speed of the iPhone is set to? Oeksen37

The aperture is fixed at f/2.8 with an ISO of 50 to 200 (but, one site reports ISO 70-1000), and the auto-exposure adjusts the electronic shutter in a range of 1/10th to 1/500th second (might go faster, not positive on the fastest possible speed).
If you have an EXIF metadata viewer, you can look at the specifics for pics you take on the camera - those values are stored with the pics.

  • HT1689 with the new format I don't see where I download updates for the apps.  My phone says I need 18 updates on my apps and I can't find where to do this in the new format. Help.

Thank you anyone for the help.

    The new format of what?
If you're running iOS 6 and want to dowonload updates directly to your iPhone,  you can open the App Store and click "Updates" in the lower right and install them from there.
If you're talking about iTunes 11 on your computer, then switch to the Apps button on the upper left and you can download them from there.

  • Do older basestations and express downgrade the speeds of the newer Airport Extreme?

In the past a device on an Airport network running at a slower speed would downgrade the entire wireless network.
I just purchased a New Airport Extreme. I also have an older Airport Extreme (g) and n Airport Express on my network.
My question is, are these devices downgrading my network speeds?

The new AirPort Extreme is dual-band, which means it simultaneously broadcasts a new (n) network and an old (b/g) network. Devices on the old network will not slow down devices on the new one.

  • Wifi speed and the new Apple TV concerns

One of the great things about my classic ATV is that I can start downloading a movie before dinner, and know that my viewing experience later won't be subject to variances in the wifi speed. In my experience, wifi speed and reliability can vary widely - and my worst nightmare is a video that stutters or freezes.
I new the new box has the faster modern chip, but I'm concerned Apple has no control over what might be the weak link: the wifi connection.
Is it time to make a run on a couple of classic boxes? Are they still in stock anywhere?

The problem is that all services are bundled with your Apple ID ([email protected]):
Your iCloud account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes, Backups, etc.),
also iTunes & App Store purchases (Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc.),
    and the iTunes Match services.
(I guess that all your devices - yours and your wife's are connected to one iTunes library, right?)
If you want that your wife gets her own iCloud account for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc. but gets also access to your media then you have two set up two things on her device:
iCloud (Settings > iCloud) with her account (e.g. [email protected])
    and
iTunes & App Stores (Settings > iTunes & App Stores) with your account (e.g. [email protected]).
In this case she gets access to your library and could use the same iTunes Match account.

  • I have 5.0 on WIN XP, but the format is the old 3.6 version. How do I get the new format as in 4.0?

I installed 5.0 on my new computer running XP Pro, but the screen
format reverts back to the 3.6 version. According to what I see on the Firefox home page the screen format of 5.0 should match what I had in the 4.0 version. Can this be changed somehow? I was just getting used to the 4.0 format and like it better.

Right-click the menu bar and untick Menu Bar in the dropdown menu.

  • What 22" external display will work with the new, late 2008, macbook

I, like many others, have problems with my external display. My problem is the one second screen blackout that happens intermittently, more so when I am scrolling around a web site. The other problem being that the pictures are elongated sideways, i.e. a ball looks oval. I have the 2.4 aluminum macbook and a Samsung SyncMaster 2253bw external monitor. (I can get the monitor to stop blacking out by setting it at a lower resolution, but this does not solve the oval ball effect)
We are all waiting for a hoped for firmware fix for this, without any official word that apple is indeed working on one. My question is this, and its for folk who are thinking about buying an external monitor - Who has had a good result with a 22/24 inch monitor with the new macbook, and what was the monitor?

Thanks hsurfer. The link you have provided gives a helpful insight. Those with the macbook pro are able to switch from their 9400 graphics card to the better 9600 graphics card, which resolves the issue, at least with the samsung monitor. We who have the macbook however do not have the option. The problem does seem to clearly emanate from the macbook graphic card, lets hope that a fix is still around the corner, the latest firmware update clearly did not resolve it.
Im still looking for success stories, anyone who can say that their specific external 22'/24' monitor works fine with the new macbook?
    kind regards
    allan

Samsung starts mass producing PCIe SSDs with 1400MB/s read speeds By Matthew Humphries Jun. 17, 2013 11:27 am
When the new MacBook Air got the teardown treatment last week, there wasn’t much different from the previous model apart from the addition of a Haswell processor, bigger battery, dual microphones, and a new SSD.
In fact, it’s that SSD that was the most unexpected new component, as it saw Apple switch from a SATA to a PCIe-connected storage solution.
That faster storage solution isn’t going to be limited to MacBook Airs , though. The PCIe SSD was supplied to Apple by Samsung, and Samsung has today announced it is already mass producing the drives.
The new drive is known as the XP941 and Samsung will offer it in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB configurations. It achieves read speeds of 1,400MB/s, which clocks it at 2.5x faster than a SATA SSD. It also only weighs 6 grams and measures 80 x 22mm. Samsung claims it only takes up a 7th of the space occupied by a typical 2.5-inch SSD.
With Samsung being the only company currently boasting mass production of such drives, supplies may be stretched depending on how many manufacturers decide to use them.
Apple is surely already taking a large chunk of the stock every month already, leaving everyone else to fight over the rest.
    ===========
It depends a lot on the pattern, and also what type of file, what any particular benchmark too. Intech SpeedTools gives you more flexability in read and write file tests - SSD writes are highly variable, it is the high IOPS and high reads that boost a system so much.
People that were using PCIe SSD 6G and multiple SSDs have found that Aperture, Lightroom, Photoshop scratch AND having the system on their SSD run smoothly, fast, even faster than those "olde" SATA3 6G controllers they were using to get 800-900MB/sec.
I just don't think you looked on Barefeats or Googled long enough to find some reviews, and there have been more - the large Anandtech review of the nMP is a good start.

  • Has anybody solved the slow wireless connections speeds of the new Imacs

I have just purchased the new imac...and was made aware of the disastrous connections speeds using wireless.. Does anybody know if apple have come up with a solution...or are they just not dealing with the problem?

I am a brand new Mac user with a new 24 inch iMac purchase. Macs are supposed to be hassle free right? Right. No question I was about ready to throw it out the window because the wireless connection to the expensive AP base station was, oh, 100x slower than my Dell laptop side by side about 1 foot away. Nothing changed even if I connected directly to the AP using an ethernet cable. My connection consists of an Actiontec DSL gateway connected directly to my AP extreme that allows wireless to my PC laptop as well as my new iMac. Hours and hours go by until I find this help link on Mac Orchard Forums:

+WOW!! everyone else with this problem read this! i was having these same huge speed problems using the internet with my new 24" dual core intel imac with 2 gigs of ram and found a posting on another site's thread that fixed it completely.+
+"Try setting your DNS servers to OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) and see if that helps at all. Maybe the ISP's changes increased the load on their DNS servers."+
+my guess is that somehow these DNS servers work the way tiger likes them to while others dont, i have no clue other than to say it works!!+
+heres a site i found that helped me understand how to change the settings:+
    +http://portforward.com/networking/static-Mac10.4.htm "+
With the new Leopard installed I went to the "portforward" link first and followed the instructions exactly to set a static IP address, then I reset my DNS servers with the exact numbers you see above - IT WORKED IMMEDIATELY!!!!! I didn't have to call my ISP or anything, it just worked exactly as it should with both Safari and Firefox. Now this Mac is flying and I will not be tossing it back to Jobs.
    Good Luck!
