Displaying some www sites takes forever

Hi,
I have a macbook (OSX 10.5.7), connected wireless to an accesspoint using DHCP. Almost everything works fine, but I noticed that sites that use images from other servers (like amazon and ravelry) take forever to load, and sometimes the images do not load at all. The firefox taskbar shows it's loading for example from images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com, but it rarely finishes. Safari shows the same behaviour. I also have a windows machine connected wireless, and it doesn't show the same problem, so I guess it is some configuration issue on my macbook.
Anyone else ever noticed this behaviour and knows a solution? Please let me know if you need more information.

Appreciate your suggestions, but this is sounding too complicated for me--especially since I just read Google Chrome is the most secure browser. I may just start using Chrome. Thanks very much anyway!

Since I installed Firefox, my computer is constantly slowed down. I cannot scroll without it freezing up on me. Sites take forever to load.

However, I have it workable now.
My main "Contacts" list is whittled down to around 500.
I have then created separate 'folders' under Contacts (using Outlook 2007) into which I keep the rest. If I go into the biggest one of these (over 5,000) on the iPhone it is painfully slow but eventually loosens up if I'm patient.
When using my phone, though, I just need to make sure the LAST folder (Group) I leave open is my main "Contacts" one. Then when I look up contacts within the Phone function or elsewhere it uses that group by default, which is much less slow (but I wouldn't use the word 'fast').
Prior to 2.x contacts performed much better, so some change in the release has bogged things down a lot. It got much better with 2.1 and will hopefully keep improving as releases continue to flow.

Web sites take forever to open, I had to switch to iexplorer which had no problem opening websites.

I try to go to websites and it takes forever to open, the little circle just keeps spinning. Sometimes it opens after a long wait, but sometime it times out.
To check the problem I went to internet explorer and had no trouble.

So the Time preferences will not load, the fan is running at full speed, and the CPU is being used. You can try starting the computer in safe mode to disable nonessential items then restarting like normal. If it is still having the issue then reset the SMC. That can help applications that may not function correctly or stop responding after being opened.

Mac sites take forever to load

The last couple weeks Firefox has been unbearably slow. Sites take up to a minute to load. I thought it was a problem with beta 36. So I deleted the app and removed the profiles from ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>

I installed the stable 35.0.1 app and didn't install any addons and the problem persists. At this point I would assume it's an ISP issue, but Chrome works fine.
Any suggestions?

"displaying video to screen" takes forever!

hey all,
when i go to "export using quicktime conversion" or something like that, a terrible thing happens. even if i am only exporting a single frame or a short marked sequence, it takes sometimes 30-60 minutes to "display video to screen." it will do the first "display" box, but when that one is done, it does another, then another, sometimes 5 or 6 complete rounds of displaying video to screen. Even if only one sequence is open, it seems to still do this graph twice. The worst part is, it totally debilitates my computer when it does this, and I can't seem to quit. Or even check email. My FCP project is admittedly large (35 hours of HDV footage), but this shouldn't matter to the extent that it does.

HELP! Site takes forever to load

I have made a short movie about 6 minutes long, no audio, I
am in standard mode. I uploaded as a SWF file.
But when I go to open it, it takes over 5 minutes to load!

Calling transaction with webgui takes forever on some workstation

Hi,
I am calling transaction CV03N via webgui from webdynpro application. The problem is on some workstation it takes forever
to load the screen with transaction details. For other it works fine.
Did anyone come across this situation? Is there anything need to be set up on personal system to run the application as expected.

Why does Safari take forever to open now?

For some reason Safari takes forever to open on my computer. This just started in the last week. The icon just bounces over and over until it finally stops with no triangular black arrow next to it. When I click on it again (after the initial bouncing) it slowly opens my home page. After reading all the other posts that might help my situation, I've reset Safari, checked for duplicate fonts, checked my proxies, thrown out Safari icons, etc.. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

Thank you for your quick response. When I clicked the Safari icon this morning, it opened right up, so I don't know if one of the other things I tried before really did fix it or if this is just a fluke. Should I still throw out the cache in the Safari folder? I thought 'reset Safari' in the drop down menu would have already done that. Thanks for any response.

Since Thunderbird attempted to load the newest version, nothing loads. Video won't load, pages take forever. How do I fix this?

A pop up asked if I wanted to install the latest version of Thunderbird. I clicked yes, and nothing has worked since. Videos won't load, sites take forever to load if they do at all. I clicked on Thunderbird 'about' and it showed it was attempting to load verision 12.1. My last version was 3.1. I deleted the Thunderbird application and installed a 3.1 version I had backed up. Everything is still not working right.
How do I fix this?

Thanks Zenos. I have an iMac OS10.6.8 When Thunderbird was installing the latest version is when this problem started. And the problem IS with my browser. I realized the problem started when I said 'yes' to installing the latest version. When I checked preferences I noticed Thunderbird was attempting to load version 12.1 It had been running for days and only 159 kbs had loaded . I didn't know how to stop it, so I just trashed the Thunderbird app, but that didn't help. I'm not very techy to say the least, but it seems like there might still be something running in the background that is slowing up everything else on my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

Im having problems loading some pages - takes forever and sometimes never load and freezes everything else up. Its as though Ive pick up a trojan or something (had problems in my pre Mac days). Any suggestions on what i can do or how to find out what the problem might be. Using this site wasnt a problem, pages loaded normally. Seems to be when im on comercial sites and searching for items.

Hi - sorry for late reply. I tried all you suggested and it made no difference to begin with, i couldnt even open this page to reply to you, which is why i havent replied before now. But the next day - all seemed significantly better. Maybe using Ghostery takes time to have an effect. Its something i didnt know about so i am extremely greatful for the advice.

Facebook won't load properly. Takes forever and then I get a script page with log-in and then that takes forever and gives me further script that won't let me access anything. Other sites load and work OK!

Started after last auto update several days ago. A few other sites are slow to load while many are good but Facebook just won't present it's usual mix of pre-programmed scripts and links but comes up eventually as part HTML script with a log-in box and when you log-in it then takes forever again and just gives HTML type script for "Friends" "messages" etc. but if you click these it goes nowhere!
Also it won't let me clear history at all despite many tries. I removed and reloaded the program last night but no positive effect.

I still haven't resolved this problem. Here is some more information...
youtube is the only website that has started working, but it sometimes stops working again.
There are many other sites that don't work, cnn.com, washingtonpost.com (sometimes), and a lot of others.
I have contacted our internet service provider and they said that they had nothing to do with the problem.
Some websites will not work at all. Safari tells me that it can't find the server. Some that do this are ups.com, computerworld.com, and others.
I think that the problem is that, for some reason, our mac computers can't access certain servers where we are. (We are at a small ski resort (on the mountain) in Canada.) I think this because when a site doesn't load properly there are several errors and they are all "can't find host" errors from a couple of the same sites (ex. example.something.something).
*Also, I ran a test on speedtest.net on the laptop and one of our iMacs and the results were way faster than anything actually loads/downloads or than the activity monitor shows, even when checking the activity monitor at the same time as running the test.

I had the same problem. Had at least 3 of each song in my library... Here's how I fixed it.
Go on iTunes to your library
Hit Shift and click on View
Scroll down to "show exact duplicate items"
the list will give you all your duplicated songs
Click at the top of the "date added" Column to sort by date added.
Even if it all happened the same day it will group your whole library by date and time added.
The time is the key...
You can start at the begining of you list and scroll to the last song that was added that day and time frame.
Everything after your last song is duplicates.
Highlight the first song hold down shift and scroll down to the last song...
Once they are all highlighted you can hit delete and send them all to the recycle bin.
It took me a while to figure it out but it works
