Displaying video with 16 Bit imagedata
Hi there.
In the the past weeks, i learned a lot about JMF.
I managed to create a player/processor pair to display a serie of 8BIT RGB formatted imagedata.
I adapted the JPEGtoVideo sample from sun for this.
My next step is to do the same for 16bit images.
Since most displays can't display 16 bit colours at a time, i want to convert them to 8 bit using the IndexedColorFormat.
But no matter what I'm trying, i cant get it working.
Each time it's not possible to create a processor for IRGB data.
Maybe someone can give me a hint to find a suitable solution for my problem.
Thanks
I find FCP's export queue very handy for converting large batches of audio. You can also use iTunes, but you have to switch your iTunes prefs around, and move the files out of your iTunes library after they are done.
Hope this helps -

Hello all,
Here's my coding obstacle to overcome with Safari in my local dev environment using Windows 7 32-bit and wamp server. I created a pretty straightforward one and a half minute animation in Flash with a white background. Then I exported it as both an swf and avi video, then I encoded to several different file formats - ogg, mp4, and webm. Firefox 19, Chrome 24, and Opera 12 all play the webm file correctly showing the video's white background as expected, and IE 10 plays the mp4 correctly.
However, when Safari 5.1.7 plays one of these files that I can't distinguish (because right click functionality displays nothing), the video's background property is changed to (gray) throughout the video instead of white. What the?
Can someone please provide a workaround?
501GuyYes, I am still having the automatic tab reloading and I am ******* sick of it.
I have lost count of how much work I have lost because of it.
I have 8 GB of perfect new RAM and tonnes of SSD HD space, I have tried reinstalling the OS etc and every fix on the internet (no (SP) mode does not work, nor does switching Java off etc, it's not an extension nor corrupted anything ... it's an uncontrollable fault with Safari).
Why does it keep happening !?!
And I am so sick of Apple not acknowledging this and responding to it.
What triggers it ... it is a built memory or cache limitation? It is a plain and simple crash?
How do I debug it to find out?
It strikes me that 20 years after the internet went public Apple ... despite all their billions and open source developers working for free ... still cannot make a browser that does not crash and so they decided to make a browser that *appears* not to crash ... except that it *does* ... only now the facade remains erect but everything else behind it crashes causing all tabs to reload, and videos and music start to play.
And there is no way to stop it doing so.
The most key app of our day and it is a POS. -

Display Videos with Automatic Disclaimer Page
Hello,
I created an asset library that would store user uploaded videos in my SharePoint site and on-click instead of just jumping right into the video I wanted to add a disclaimer page with my site's logo and then a button that the user will click that will acknowledge
that they read the disclaimer message and would like to go to the video.
Is there any kind of built in functionality to accomplish this or what would be the way to approach this functionality programmatically?
Thanks in advance for the help!Hi,
As there is no such OOTB feature, we can achieve it via JavaScript programmatically.
Here is a similar thread with a solution for your reference:

Video Display Problems with Flex Builder 2
I am currently trying out the Flex Builder 30-day trial and
have been having problems running the software.
System info:
FB 2.0.1
Dell Latittude D820 running WinXP
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120M Video Card
When I first installed it, my display turned to garbage and I
had to reboot my machine to get it to a usable state. Someone
suggested changing my display properties and see if it helped. When
I tried 768X1024 with 8-bit color it worked. Once I installed it, I
changed them back to 1920X1200 32-bit. Everything seemed to work
fine until I started getting into some more complicated tutorials.
My display crashed and looked similar to what I saw before. I
updated to the latest NVIDIA driver from Dell. No help. I then
tried the Windows Troubleshooting. When I turned my hardware
acceleration to None, it started working again. There are some
weird display issues with menu buttons and I can't launch my Nvdia
software.
Is there a better solution to this? Has anyone had this
problem? I'm not so sure I'll purchase the software with this many
problems.
Thanks,

I am Currently restoring my Power Book after a significant meltdown.
Thanks for posting I too saw the shearing effect but shrugged it off thinking oh well I'll just reboot!
If you are seeing this Buy a fire wire drive NOW and Back-up.
I suspect the Video update changed a low level feature in the power management routines and this resulted in my Power book cooking itself.
I've got a 12mth old Hitachi 7200 PATA drive in my Power Book after the Apple Drive cooked itself soem tim back and I have now got to back-up and restore my whole system. Luckiliy I have plenty of Big fast firewire drives around so I'm imaging the corrupt drive and going to run the Hitachi tool on it via a WINDOZE Thinkpad. Then a combination of clean install of 10.5.x and a migration assisted restore should do it.
I'm really not very happy though! My Time machine image did not restore and the disk repair did not work. I have a corrupted asl.DB ( the log file for Apple System Logs) and the mac won't boot from its internal drive.
I'll post the resolution here as it happens I'm at hour Disaster + 24 so I'm really cranky!
I suggest If you have a G4 Power Book you resist the temptation to install the video update.

On Windows 7, Itunes 64-bit is playing all videos with a green overlay
On Windows 7, Itunes 64-bit is playing all videos with a green overlay. You can see the video, but it's all green-scale (like grey-scale, only green). I've tried setting the Quicktime Direct3D options per Apple knowledge base articles, but to no avail... Windows 7 is all up to date, and I have the latest video drivers installed.
The videos play perfectly in Quicktime (32-bit; I guess there isn't a 64-bit Quicktime?).
Here's a screenshot:
I'd love to get this fixed; it's really baffling and annoying.I had the same problem and surfed around the internet like a maniac. Finally, after several re-openings and re-installs of iTunes, I tried to log on to my account through the "Genius" - which I could. After that I have not had any problems to go to the Store!
Hope it works for you too! -
Adobe Premiere Elements 13, will not display video picture, audio only. My videois listed as compatible with Adobe.

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running? Have you updated 13 to 13.1 yet using an opened project's Help Menu/Updates?
If not, please do so.
You have not given us enough information with which to help you.
What are the properties of your source file that is presenting in the project with audio but no video?
Quickest way to gain that information is from brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video.
I am looking for
video compression
audio compression
frame size
frame rate
interlaced or progressive
file extension
pixel aspect ratio
What does the file's thumbnail look like in Project Assets after it is imported....thumbnail with no image (gray), thumbnail with only an audio icon
within it, or other? On the Timeline, what do you see represented in Video 1....nothing as opposed to Audio 1 where you see the audio portion of
the file?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 13/13.1? Are you running the programs as
administrator?
Is your video card/graphics card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
Let us start here. Based on your reply details, we will customize troubleshooting strategy for you.
Thanks.

Is LED display video cord too short to use with Mac Pro?
I've seen the new 24-in cinema display used with a macbook and noted how short the cord is. Now I'm thinking of getting the new Mac Pro with that same display but won't the cord be too short for me to set the tower near the floor on the side of my desk? I don't want to have to set that tower ON my desktop just so the connector will reach the minidisplay port.
Any thoughts?I have exactly this set up, and it (just) works for me.
The cable is about 42" from the back of the monitor to the three connectors at the other end, which allows me to have the Mac Pro on the floor, and the monitor on my desk. Obviously, it will depend on your desk height, cable access, etc., but it was a bit of tight fit, so you might want to get out a tape measure and see it will work for you. -
FCP 7, issue with dual display (video frozen but audio plays)
I have just installed FCP 7 (Studio 3) onto a new MacPro 8-core with Radion5770 GFX card.
Primary monitor is running via DVI, secondary monitor is running via DisplayPort to HDMI.
My problem is that if i enable the secondary display so that I get a full screen image from the timeline and then attempt to play the video remains frozen whilst the audio plays.
Its the same on the primary display video viewer window as well.
If I TURN OFF the secondary display then the video viewer on the primary window returns to normal play back without any issues.
If I turn the seconday display back on, then "scratch" along the timeline then the video refeshes corectly - but every time i hit play the video remains frozen.
Any ideas???Ive found the solution.
its quite easy.
symply go to
Final Cut Pro -> Audio/Video Settings
Navigate to A/V Devices and under video select the screen your using. If your using the computers screen, like a macbooks screen make sure to check the box. "Miror on desktop". If you do not do this you will have a black frozen immage and the sound will continue playing.
I set a shortcut for "All frames" so that when I press a cmd+p it automatically plays full screen on my macbook.
Hope that helps.

Tty display problems with nvidia and uvesafb
I'm trying to get my console to display correctly at 1080p; trying to do so through GRUB was always an absolute nightmare.
The console displays fine with nouveau, but nouveau causes the infamous pink line bug, which is simply too irritating to ignore; nouveau is not an option.
In the past, my console has run at low res and incorrect scale with nvidia, but I've ignored the problem since I prefer to use a virtual terminal in X.
Now, if possible, I need to use the actual console for the purposes of module development.
I installed v86d and uvesafb and configured the console for 1920x1080 and 32 bit depth.
The console is displaying with the correct resolution now, but is surrounded by a black border, making the font distorted and extremely difficult to read.
How can I get my console to scale correctly to fullscreen? Any ideas at all. I found nothing in the forums or wiki, and I'm out.
I'm fairly certain there are no vga or video settings in GRUB that are interfering.Output of "pacman -Qi nvidia"

Also, it might help to describe the behaviour more specifically / more in depth...
The rendered part of the console occupies the same space as the GRUB boot menu.
I installed and configured virtualbox a few weeks previously.
I ran "sudo depmod -a" as the wiki / forums indicated it could remedy problems with virtual machines failing to start.
It did fix the virtualbox problem; after reboot, suddenly lightdm *also* initally occupied the same window space as grub.
That was new behaviour. When I logged in to xmonad, the desktop displayed similarly to GRUB.
I hadn't tried fixing it; logging in with root followed by "ps -e | grep X" and "kill -9 <Xpid>" caused X as a whole to start behaving and scaling normally.
I haven't rebooted until attempting to rectify the issue with my console.
The oddity with scaling in lightdm and xmonad still shows up after reboot and is still reparable by killing X.
Killing X doesn't - obviously - have any effect on console scale.

Loading, playing in "sync" multiple videos with OSMF
Hi All,
I've just started to use OSMF in a Flex project.
I was wondering if it was possible to manage loading 2 videos with OSMF, start playing both videos when they're both downloaded (or when there's enough data downloaded to play them both)
Both videos have the same length, but I was just wondering if there was a way to do that
Thanks for the helpThanks for the answer Ryan,
Exactly what I was looking for.
To take things a bit further, I was wondering if you could tell me if the following was possible (or if the OSMF is meant to be used this way) :
I'm developing a flex application using the OSMF, I'd like to use the parallel element (two videos), have of it's elements be displayed in a flex canvas, and have the second element displayed in another canvas, I'd just like to know if that's possible/logical
Thanks for your help

MSE : "Files needed to display video are not installed..."
I installed the MSI DigiVox ATSC w QAM USB stick. Live TV setup and channel scanning worked fine. But then when I try to use the tuner in Windows Media Center, and play live TV, I get stuttering video and audio for a few moments before this message is displayed:
"Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer." I have of course tried both.
WMC plays back movie files from my HDD without any problems.
One symptom is when I go through guided setup, and choose 5.1, the Test button does not result in any audio output. Even though WMC's system sounds and file playback audio works fine.
I have Win 7 64 bit, all updates. Intel i5 2500K integrated video (HD Graphics 3000) - latest drivers installed. Connecting via HDMI.
I tried the exact same tuner on a Shuttle based x86 Win7 Ultimate 32-bit system, with a discrete ATI video cards, and everything worked fine.
1) Is there a problem with the 64-bit drivers, or
2) Is there a problem with MSI Digi Vox and Intel HD 3000 graphics?
3) Something else?
Thanks! If I connect the HTPC directly to my Samsung DLP, it works fine.
There must be a problem with the combination Intel HD3000, Onkyo TX-SR605 and Windows Media Center that I probably will never be able to solve
EDIT: So I tried a discrete ATI video card, and had the same problem. Ergo, it must be that WMC cannot handshake or communicate with my Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver.
EDIT2: Also, my old 32-bit HTPC connecting via the same receiver, there is no problem. This is so frustrating. I think I will re-install Windows 7 64-bit + all drivers, and try WMC7 audio + Live TV before installing anything else. -
IMovie crashes when exporting a video with a PIP
Hello all,
I am running iMovie '11 version 9.0.9 (1795). It says that it is up to date when I tell it to check for updates.
System specs: Mac OSX Lion Version 10.7.5, Processor 2.8GHz Core i7, Memory 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
I have a short video file that I added one picture-in-picture (PIP) onto. I exported that one just fine. Then I re-imported it to add a second PIP, which I need to do. Now, anytime I try to export the video with the second PIP, it crashes.
I tried exporting it without adding the PIP, and it works just fine. I didn't do any other editing or anything.
I'm really frustrated at the constant crashing. I was able to do this exact thing before with a different video. I am now also researching ways to add watermarks using a different software, but I really don't want to have to start all over again.
Any ideas?Oh, here is the error message.

Display Issues with mini (Mid 2010) and LG L246WP
I recently purchased a new mini (Mid 2010 base model) and planned to use it with my 24" LG L246WP monitor, which is about 3 years old. The monitor has VGA, component, and HDMI inputs.
I used an HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect the mini directly to the monitor, and the output is completely messed up. The mini recognized the monitor (titling the System Preferences > Display dialog with 'L246WP') and set it to the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200, but on the monitor the image is cropped to what looks like a 4:3 aspect ratio and with part of the image shifted up and left so I cannot view the top menu bar or the left hand side of the desktop. The monitor's on-screen display shows 1080p in this mode.
The Display dialog also gives me an option for 1080p. I can select this and use the Underscan slider to resize the desktop output to fit on the screen, but it is still shifted left and must be resized smaller than the available display space (plus the total image is only 1080 pixels, not using the monitor's full native screen). In this mode, 1080p also shows on the monitor's on-screen display.
I tried 1024x768 to see if I could get a properly-positioned image, but the desktop was shifted just like in the 1920x1200 case and the monitor's on-screen display status still reported 1080p.
The monitor has a menu setting under an HDMI heading with "Video" and "PC" options, but changing this selection does not make a difference.
Since the monitor came out before HDMI was as widespread as it is today, it came with a DVI-to-HDMI cable, so I also tried using that cable with the HDMI-to-DVI adapter that came with the mini, but this did not make a difference either.
To prove it wasn't the HDMI cable, I connected the mini to my Samsung 6300 series 40" LED HDTV and with some tweaking of the Underscan slider the displayed image filled the screen perfectly.
I've searched the Internet and various forum threads (i.e. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1167222&page=63) seem to indicate this monitor can send a corrupted EDID that causes issues, especially with nVidia graphics drivers. On Windows you can use registry or driver hacks to override the EDID with the correct values, but on OS X this doesn't seem possible (I was hoping for a Terminal one-liner but it seems this doesn't exist). I have seen some mentions of the shareware SwitchResX (http://www.madrau.com), which looks like it gives you the option to override resolution settings, but I haven't tried this yet.
It also appears to me that the monitor is always interpreting the signal (or the mini is always sending the signal) as 1080p, even if I've set 1920x1200 in the Display dialog. I don't know if this is a defect in the monitor where it always assumes the HDMI input is a 1080p source (previous I used it with an Xbox 360 with no issues but that was 1080p HDMI), or if is a bug in the graphics drivers (or at least a lack of flexibility / miscommunication to the user trying to handle a corrupt EDID).
I asked my local Genius Bar for advice today (without bringing any hardware in) but was not told anything I didn't already know.
I'm trying to determine the best way to work through this issue. *My questions are:*
Would it make any difference if I used a Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter (and then my DVI-to-HDMI cable to the monitor's HDMI input)?
What about a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter? In the past I used a 12" Powerbook (via a mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter) with this monitor and had no display issues like this, but I'd prefer to stick with a digital connection on my brand new mini.
Is SwitchResX the only practical way in OS X to override a corrupt EDID and force the mini to output a certain resolution?
Besides the various adapters and SwitchResX, is there anything else I should try before buying a new monitor?Hello EPWilson4984.
I have been experiencing the same issues you described. Connecting my brand new Mac Mini to my Westinghouse 24”monitor (L2410NM, 1920x1200 pixel resolution) produces a very fuzzy and washed out image quality. The Mac recognizes the monitor and applies the right resolution (1920x1200), but it looks just awful. The EDID info is definitely not right.
Now, I tried your suggestion (DVI-to-HDMI), and similar suggestions from other threads, but nothing works. Nothing seems to work at all.
The main input for the monitor is HDMI, so whatever cable I use, in the end always has to connect to the monitor via HDMI. I tried all these combinations with zero success:
Mac mini -> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini -> displayport –HDMI adapter-> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini -> displayport –DVI adapter-> DVI-to-HDMI cable -> monitor (result: it gives me a blank screen, no image at all)
I’m running out of options. Don’t know what to do. The 24” monitor produces beautiful, crisp images when hooked to my Windows 7 PC. It looks horrible when connected to my brand new Mac Mini.
Any alternatives you may have come across? Please let me know, thank you. -
Studio Display 21" with Mac Mini?
I am considering getting a Mac Mini as an economical upgrade to my B/W G3 system but I want to make sire that my monitor is going to work with it. I have the origingal blue and white 21" Studio Display. the System Profiler says this......
Displays:
Studio Display 21:
Display Type: CRT
Resolution: 1152 x 870 @ 75 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Not Supported
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Not Supported
Will this display work with a new Mac Mini? I really do not have the $ right now to get a new Monitor and this one works great anyway. I am also wondering how my current software,,,,,,, Photoshop,Indesign etc. will work with the new Intel Macs?
THanks for any input
MyShunshynCan't help on the screen much - believe you need to get an adapter, as the previous post indicated. You might check in the Apple dislay area at http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=111
Regarding your applications, as long as you're not running under OS 9 or earlier, your applications will run on the Intel mini under Rosetta emulation. Universal applications are those that have been modified to run on both the PPC and Intel macs, and they run natively. Those applications that have not been made universal run under Rosetta emulation. Photoshop is an example of an application that has not been made universal yet (supposed to happen this year with Photoshop CS3). Running under emulation does extract a performance penalty, of up to 50%, versus running in native universal mode.
If you have applications running under OS9 or in the OS X classic environment, you'll need to upgrade to an OS X version in order to run on the Intel-based mini, and you may find there are Universal versions of your software, which would be even better.
