DisplayPort to miniDisplayPort Connectivity?

As you may know many of the new Thinkpads use DisplayPort technology. I have both a Thinkpad with a DisplayPort and an iMac (spring 2011) with miniDisplayPort (its actually a Thunderbolt port). If I get an adaptor that allows me to connect DisplayPort to miniDisplayPort, should i be able to use my iMac as a display for my Thinkpad?

Sorry. Ignore this question. Its already been answered

  • X1 Carbon mini Displayport won't connect toHDMI

Hi I have an X1 carbon type 3443 thinkpadand while the mini displayport will now connect via a VGA adapter without intermittently going to a black screen following updating the BIOS with the Dec 2013 update, it will not connect to a HDMI screen at all. Windows 8.1 64bit
The external HDMI screen is not shown in Control Panel/Display/Screen Resolution and Fn F7 goes nowhere.
Any ideas on what I should try next before asking for a refund?

    Hi BenZion,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with Display port on your ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Have you checked with updating Graphic drivers and BIOS update?
If you have any difficulty in finding the drivers, please share the MTM number & OS (Operating System) of your device so that I can assist you with the drivers.
    Hope this helps!

  • Thinkvision pro 2840m - no signal on DisplayPort and MiniDisplayport - mid2011 27" iMac

    Hi Guys,
I have the thinkvision pro 2840m for a week now and I have fiddling around with the display quite a lot.
The display only gets a signal from my iMac 27" (mid2011) using midisplayport to hdmi @1080p
if I try minidisplay to minidisplay - the iMac recognises the pro 2840m but there is no signal on the screen.
if I try minidisplay to Display - the iMac recognises the pro 2840m but there is no signal on the screen
if I try DisplayPort to DisplayPort from my wife's thinkpad T410 it recognises the pro2840m but there is no signal.
from above, I am very disappointed that I am only able to get a 1080p resolution, and not atleast the iMac native resolution.
I know that my iMac is older and it does not support 4K yet, but atleast it should give the native resolution of the iMac which it is not ...
did any of you guys experience this ?
I have spoken to support, nothing helpful from there.
    Please help...
    Thank you

    Hi,
It might sound silly, but you know each time you connect a cable to a different input on the back of your display, you need to switch to that particular input cycling through the inputs by pressing the button on the far left of all buttons with the 1-><-2 symbol?
The mDP-mDP cable should work for you just fine. And for the T410, you need to set the display to DP 1.1 mode in the display menu under OPTIONS.
    Hope that helps.

  • X301 DisplayPort flashing when connected

I have recently purchased an X301 (2776-LEG) and am delighted with it. At home I connect it to a 22" HPW2228h monitor that includes a USB hub. I was using VGA but just got delivery of the DisplayPort/DVI adapter cable required.
There is no doubt that the digital interface produces a much better image. However I now have a problem that often when I open the laptop (I don't power it down during the week when at home) the laptop seems not to be quite sure about what monitor is connected. With the result that it flashes and goes blank then back to the laptop display every 15 seconds or so in a continual loop.
I tried disconnecting the USB connection but this doesn't help. I tried powering down and restarting as well as restarting with & without the DP cable connected but still no good.
Now I had to go back to VGA which is making my eyes hurt.
Im using Vista which I am also very happy with even though it doesn't seem to like IBM iSeries Access very much.
    Can anybody help me please?

Anyone have any suggestions on this problem? The exact same problem occurred to my wife's 80 GB classic yesterday. The grey apple screen flashes when hooked up to my iMac via a USB cable. iTunes does not recognize it. It works in the car or house though with our Griffin power accessories. Unplug it from the USB cord though and the screen goes black. Battery indicator says it is fully charged.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • DisplayPort Connection on MacPro with HD 4870

I just bought an NEC PA271W monitor which can utilize both a DisplayPort and DVI connection. It came with the DVI cord and worked great with my early 2009 Mac Pro.
I wanted to use DisplayPort, since the color depth is higher when using DisplayPort on this monitor.
I connected the display with the a MiniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cable from my HD 4870 graphics card to the NEC. It worked great... until...
I tried shutting off the monitor. When I powered it up, it couldn't "see" a connection via the DisplayPort port. I'd have to disconnect the cord and re-insert it to "wake" it up. This obviously isn't the real solution.
For now, I've gone back to the DVI cable, but was wondering if others have had similar issues? I've tried resetting the Mac's PRAM. I've also reproduced this more than once, even after the NEC goes into its own sleep mode. After it is turned off or goes to sleep, the monitor fails to display anything until the cord is physically removed and re-inserted.

    Malcolm Rayfield wrote:

DisplayPort may be able to handle extra color depth, but I don't think it's supported by OSX.
    John Hendron wrote:
Not supported by OS X? Then why does Apple put MiniDisplayPort connections on all their machines now??? I don't think that's correct.
This is a tricky area, where one must pay attention to more than just what one spec says.
DisplayPort is capable of carrying a 10-bit signal. But for that to work on your monitor, ALL of the following must support 10-bit color:
    a. The monitor, I guess you got that
    b. The video card, I read that the 4870 supports that in this article
    c. The video card driver for OS X
    d. The OS itself, again the linked article indicates that Snow Leopard can go above 8 bit for video
    e. The app you're displaying from, this is very rare these days as far as I know
Point being, even if OS X supports it, +every other+ link in your chain had better, too, or you're not gonna get it. If the monitor has a 10-bit lookup table, as the article says you can still get a general benefit by using high-end third-party calibration in OS X to adjust it inside the monitor.
If we cannot answer your question here, you might ask this guy who wrote an article about your exact monitor on a Mac Pro, because he loves the monitor. One would guess that he has a 4870 lying around in that lab of his.

  • W520 and hooking to TV - No DisplayPorts show connected in NVidia Control Panel

I had hoped the video would go well, leaving me to just have to worry about the audio issues when trying to drive my TV from the W520. I have the latest BIOS and NVidia Optimus drivers from the Lenovo site.
When connecting the TV to the laptop DisplayPort I tried to bring up the NVidia Control Panel (and also Desktop->Screen Resolution) to see if I could see the second monitor. The 3 DisplayPorts show no connection in the NVidia Control panel. Is this indicative of the cable maybe being bad (Should I at least see one connected even without a cable)?
    Other thoughts?  Thanks,
    Eric

    hey ericvn,
have you updated the drivers for your nvidia yet ? The current version right now is 8.17.12.6871 and if yours isn't this version; do update it.
if yours is this version, try uninstalling and reinstalling and at the same time do test the cable on a different unit.

  • Trouble connecting Dell monitor to macbook pro

I'm trying to hook a Dell u3011 to a 2011 macbook pro.  I've got a DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort cable connected, as well as the USB cable, but the monitor gets no signal and displays a "No Displayport Cable" error message.  I've double-checked the connections and the input setting in the monitor's menu.  I'm not currently able to test either the HDMI or DVI connections because I lack the necessary cables/adapters.  Any ideas what's going on?
    2011 MacBook Pro 15"
    Quad 2 Ghz i7
    8 GB RAM

    Hi,
I am sure your problem must have been sorted out by now, but for all current and future buyers for the dell U2414H and having an apple computing device, mac, macbook, pro etc, the monitor works perfectly out of the box when I connected with a mini DP(thunderbolt port) to HDMI output (U2414H), it just ran out of the box, without any issues, it even worked simply for my bootcamp windows. So no need to fret before purchasing one, simply go ahead and get it, it's the Monitor with most appealing edge giving you only a screen to view at, I was also considering between the U2412M and the U2414H, I think I've made a great choice.
    Cheers,

  • 2013 Mac Pro DisplayPort Monitor does not wake from Sleep.

On my 2013 MP I have dual monitors:
    One connected DVI-to-MiniDisplayPort a ViewSonic 24"
    Second connected DisplayPort-to-MiniDisplayPort a MonoPrice 27" 2560x1440
When the computer comes out of Sleep or Off the 27" display does not come out of Sleep Mode.
If I unplug and replug the MiniDisplayPort connection from the MP the Display will turn on correctly.
Never had this issue with the 24" both monitors go into a sleep/hibernate mode(yellow power light on displays) when the computer turns off or goes to sleep.
When the computer comes out of sleep the 27" backlight turns on briefly but then goes back into sleep mode.
Troubleshooting: PRAM Reset and alternative ports on the MacPro with no luck.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks in advance.

  • Thunderbolt to displayport = no display

    Hello all,
I have the late 2013 MBP 13". I am trying to connect to my Dell 2713UM monitor via displayport to minidisplayport cable. (this was my previous setup with 2010 MBP 15". I plugged it into the thunderbolt port of my new laptop and it doesnt work. Can someone please advise what my options are. I'm looking for the best resolution. (better than HDMI) I believe my previous setup was 2560x1440.
Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!

Go into the Display page of System Preferences and holf down the Option key. A button will appear near the bottom right that says Detect Displays, click on it.

  • Connecting two 2560x1440 Monitors via 2 MiniDP to DP Cables

    Hi, everyone!
I have a quick question. I recently bought a Macbook Pro Retina 13", and I'd like to connect it to two Dell 27" monitors that run at 2560x1440. From reading online, the Macbook Pro comes with two thunderbolt slots that are the equivalent of two miniDP slots. A miniDP to DP connector to my monitor will give me the full 2560x1440 resolution.
If that is the case, is it possible for me to use two miniDP to DP cables to connect each of my monitors at their native 2560x1440 resolution? That seems like a good way to avoid having to get the Dual-link DVI cables.
    Thanks,
    Kirupa

    Hello,
I am using an Asus PB278 monitor at its full resolution (2560x1440) with my MacBook Pro Retina 13" (Late 2012).
The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to miniDisplayPort cable and the monitor is working flawless.
Using two DP to miniDP cables should be no problem, although the high resolution is pushing the Integrated Graphics to its limit.

  • ProBook 6565b/6465b, Is Displayport 1.1a?

I am using a Probook 655 whose graphic performance and "Displayport 1.2" are satisfying to me.
I am thinking of purchasing 6565b/6465b as a backup machine, and it is concerning me whether 6565b/6465b have "Displayport 1.2". Service and Maintenace manuals is dictating they are "Displayport 1.1a".
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03066646.pdf
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03066699
However, documents below can be seemed to be dictating the opposite.
" DisplayPort 1.2 is expected to be available via webdownload in June 2011. "
    http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx%2F4AA3-4479ENA.pdf
    http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx%2F4AA3-4516ENA.pdf
Is there any possibility that 6565b/6465b with updated drivers will have Displayport 1.2 ?

Both DisplayPort and Thunderbolt connections pass audio, so the answer is yes. However, I have yet to see a DisplayPort monitor that has speakers.
MiniDisplayPort or Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters work fine.

  • Problem with Displayport and M11x

Okay so I have an M11x R3 laptop running Arch x86_64.  I have an issue I just got a Displayport to DVI and Displayport to VGA adapters.  I have tried HDMI but it doesn't show up with xrandr -q command.  I was wondering what I should do because it shows my VGA1 disconnected even when the DisplayPort adapter is connected to the monitor and to the laptop?
    xrandr -q output:
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192

I can use optirun or primusrun I have both installed.  I have run both optirun and primusrun with the xrandr queries to see about detecting a secondary display with the Displayport or hdmi and nothing!  Any helps, tips, tricks, comments would be greatly appreciated because I am designing an Android application for my work and could use my secondary display working for more screen space.
    **EDIT #1**
    What I am currently running:
nvidia bumblebee/primus-git driver from AUR 313.18-1 and I am going to update my git repos of lib32-primus-git and primus-git to see if that doesn't help...
    Also using 3.7.4-1-ARCH kernel.
    **EDIT #2**
Okay so I have found out that the HDMI/VGA1 are both I guess hooked up to the GT 540M card which means that it won't show up without bumblebee/primus working.  So I have tried using the Bumblebee how-to guide on github how to setup an external secondary display and well it really didn't work well at all!
    First I did this:
I removed from /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf KeepUnusedXServer = false to = true.  I also have removed the UseEDID, and Option "AutoAddDevices" "false", from /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nvidia.  Also have tried to setup an export path before running commands:
    export DISPLAY=:8 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/nvidia-bumblebee:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    optirun -vv true

Thanks, I finally find the same question here, posted a year ago.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4249436?start=30&tstart=0
But there is still no solutions today.
Thanks God! I found a way to solve that.
MonitorMenu-DisplaySetting--Sharpness----Set it to 0. This finally solved my problem.

  • Target Display Mode - Thunderbolt to Mini DisplayPort?

I have a MacBook Pro which has a Mini DisplayPort and I connect this to the Mini DisplayPort on my 27" iMac and use Target Display Mode.
I am interested in the MacBook Air but there is no longer a Mini DisplayPort and I want to be able to go into Target Display Mode on my iMac. Is this going to be possible ie can I connect the Thunderbolt port on a MacBook Air to the Mini DisplayPort on my iMac and go into Target Display Mode? If possible, are the cables available yet?
    Thanks
    Tony

Yes, you can use the Thunderbolt port (which doubles as a Mini DisplayPort).
And yes, the cable (Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort) is available.
You can probably use your existing cable for Target Display Mode, just not for connecting Thunderbolt devices to your MacBook Air.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor not Mirroring

    13-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) running 10.8.3
Monoprice Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptors freeze the system (no issues with Monoprice Mini DisplayPort to DVI connected to monitor) so I tried an Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor and that works ok, EXCEPT it doesnt automatically mirror to projectors like older models I have used.
Is the 13-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) supposed to auto mirror when connected to projectors using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor?
    Thanks for any assistance.

I havent had a chance to test, yet it looks like if I create the settings for mirroring when the projector is attached to the laptop, the setting should stick moving forward..  I thought it just auto-sensed.  Will try and report back here if there are any changes or to solve the ticket...
