Just like the title implied, i can only see English characters despite having a Japanese ime installed and also having fonts. I can type in the languge and my ipod displays it fine but itunes cant.

Just doublechecking ... Do you have supplemental language support enabled, as per the following document?

Hey all,
I own a lot of Japanese CDs and was wondering if there is a way to pull up the Japanese-language names for the songs from Gracenote. Right now all I'm getting is a bunch of weird boxes for the titles; I think I need a language pack from MS Windows Update but I'm not sure. Thanks for your help.

I have seen this a couple of times over the last few days here in the forum; the Reader 11.0.7 plugin for Mac displays the message in Japanese. Here is the English translation.
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement then quit and relaunch the browser.
Do it, and the message will disappear.

Update not displaying foreign language characters

I just upgraded to iTunes 9.1 for Windows 7, and now when I open it, the library no longer displays foreign characters (most specifically Japanese and Korean) anymore. It just shows boxes where the text should be. I'm worried that if I re-sync my iPod, it will only display boxes on that, too. Before I updated, everything was working fine and the library had no problem displaying foreign characters. Is there a way to fix this problem?

i've the same problem,, but i heared that they added more languages and character sets in the service pack 3
try to find about SP3,, and if you found that your languages supported then upgrade to it

Itunes won't display any Japanese song titles

Any ideas. I recently downloaded the latest itunes (10.4). Prior to this all my song titles displayed correctly in both Japanese and English. Now, only some Japanese Artists (in Japanese Characters) will display correctly in the library, but the songs will not. All the songs show up on my ipod touch 4 though and all the song titles are associated with the songs in the files.
I have an Dell running XP and have Japanese fonts installed. I have checked my library and the song titles show when I right-click and open up 'get info'. The song is there and the title shows there, but it doesn't show if I just have the library showing.
As for trouble shooting - I have done the following:
a) reinstalled itunes
b) retyped the song titles in Japanese
c) played songs
d) converted ID3 tags (which just moved the song and made things worse)
e) reconverted ID3 tags which did nothing
Apple - How can I fix this? If I can't, please ensure the new Itunes 10.5 or 11.0 will resolved this issue. If not, can I re-install the old itunes version of 10.1 or 9.? ?

I am having the same problem. Why do we keep using Apple when their support is so pitiful? You cannot contact Apple about problems. Hopefully they will eventually correct the problem. Good Luck.

My Thai language song titles change to random symbols when added to iTunes. How can I prevent this and get the titles to appear in Thai?

My wife bought a Thai mp3 CD. When saved to the mac the titles appear correctly in Thai language. When we use iTunes to search for music and import these songs, iTunes changes the Thai language character to random symbols basically making the titles illegible, and the playlist unuseable if we want to select any songs by title.
Any idea how I can get iTunes to display the song titles correctly (in Thai language)? i.e. as they are in the folder that the songs are saved in?

To display right in iTunes the ID3 tags have to be in Unicode. This app may help:

Displaying the full song title

I have songs with long titles, is there a way to display everything?

The only way I have done a work around, is to preview the song (make it play)
Then press the lock button
When the phone is locked it should still be playing press either the back button or the lock button and the full song title will appear

Does anybody know if the new ipod nano displays the full song title if its really long?

i'm looking to buy one. I have an old zune hd and it doesn't allow you to view full song titles. It's a huge problem if you have a lot of classical music (which i do), because you see stuff like "Symphony No. 4 in" and then nothing else, no way to get more

The title should scroll, but I"m not positive if it does that on all models.

Cannot display artist's & song titles

I have used two different computers to sync my cd music. One computer will sync with artist and song titles. The other will only sync with Track one, Track two, and no artist's name and titles. How do I get this computer to syn with with names and song list?

If you connect to the internet you can highlighting the tracks in an album and go to Advanced>Get CD Track names: Finding CD information on the Internet

Only if the CD you are adding information for is truly a compilation, in other words the tracks on the CD are all by different artists. If you tick this box for songs in a CD by a single artist the songs won't appear under Artist on the iPod. They'll only appear under Albums or under Compilations and then the compilation album.

Why are my browsers suddenly displaying foreign language?

Where are you located? I have lived in Mexico for years and have had all my sights in English, just last month all my sites defaulted to Spanish, I had to go into preferences on each program and put the default language into English. I am not sure why it started to do this, and it was a pain to go into all the programs and change it. One note though, Facebook can take several tries to default to English and it will at times revert back to Spanish when it wants. If you are in the U.S. your default should be English and I would check my internet address to make sure it is a U.S. address. Foreign language attachment titles messed up

I often get files with Japanese titles attached to emails. In Mail on both my 4-year-old iMac and 1-year-old MBP, both running 10.8.2, these titles often get all goofy-charactered. Funny thing is, if I go to view my iCloud mail in Safari, the titles are fine. What's up?

Hello, I am trying to add titles that contain Korean but they just show up as little boxes. Any idea how I can fix this?

Make sure you have set the Font to a Korean one, like AppleGothic.

Display foreign language fonts on iPad's Safari

Hi, I am trying to read some Sinhalese (Sri Lankan) news web sites on iPad using Safari but it is not displaying Sinhalese fonts correctly, just gibberish. But same web sites display fonts correctly on latest Safari version on my PC. Can some one please tell is there anything I can try on iPad to display fonts correctly?

Thanks for the links. These are non-Unicode sites that use 1990's Windows-only technology to embed custom .eot fonts in the web page. As far as I know, no Mac could ever view them without the user finding a copy of the special "sandaru" font and installing manually on the machine. That's totally impossible for any iOS device.
You might want to ask the sites to create a Unicode alternative version of their pages for non-Windows viewers who are using the international standard for Sinhala encoding.

Yes.
It requires that you have a font that has the chinese characters though.
You can load a font from a chinese.ttf true type font if you have one handy (there are a few free ones).
After you have loaded the font you set your window/label/button/... to use it.
This is what I do when I have to test chinese from my applications (swedish/english normally, but also have finish, polish, spanish and chinese to various degree)
Note: it is bad for accessability to set fonts programatically....
