Displays "not charging"

I have an iPad 3 and all of a sudden it displays "not charging". So I bought three new cable cords and a 12W adapter and I still get the same message. I know even though it says not charging it is, just at a slower pace. Any sugguestions?

Inspect the 30-pin charging port on the device for dust/lint/gunk/whatever. The 30-pin port loves to attract & hang onto stuff that can prevent proper contact between the charging cable's conductors and the port's conductors. Clean it out with a clean brush...an old, clean toothbrush will work fine. After cleaning it, blow it out using just your own human wind-power (blow).
You may also want to try a device reset to see if that helps:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
Are the newly purchased items (cables & charger) official Apple products? Some of the 3rd party accessories don't like to work well with iOS 7 & iOS 8. If they are official Apple products, I would make a Genius Bar reservation and have the iPad & the accessories (take them ALL in) evaluated for free. You can make a Genius Bar reservation linked below. You'll need your Apple ID to make a reservation.

Either the power brick is damaged, or the charging circuit is on the blink, or both. Either way, a trip to the Apple Store or the Apple Authorized Service Provider is in order, as this ain't no bargain basement toy.
In the meantime, can attempt an SMC Reset to see if it helps.

Charge it with the supplied power brick plugged into the wall.
Most USB ports don't put out enough power for the iPad so the best way is plugged into the wall.

  • HT1119 BATTERY IS DISPLAYING (NOT CHARGING) -What to do if your Mac Book Pro 13" even if it is on the power source adapter. I have dim all the lights and other energy saver as instructed. Any advice please .

Hi- My Macbook pro 13" is not charging and displaying the ( not charging ) sign evenif it is in the power source & adapter. Have tried all the dim all display lights and close unsed applications ( except not too sure about the close running applications)
    Please help ?

Does the light come on in the power connector that connects to the Mac? If not then it is not getting any power. That light is either Green or Amber. Green for fully (and or Almost Fully) charged and Amber when the system is charging the battery. No light means the AC adapter is either not getting any power from the Wall Outlet or the AC adapter or the Mac is broken. In either of the last 2, broken AC adapter or broken Mac, you can replace the AC adapter yourself but if it's the Mac then only Apple can fix that.
Not much troubleshooting to do. You either don't have power to the AC adapter or the AC adapter is broken or the Mac is broken. It is one of those 3 things.

  • 24in LED Cinema Display not charging MBP Late 2011

    Hello All,
My new Macbook Pro (Late 2011) will not charge when connected to my 24in LED Cinema Display. The power indicator on the menu bar says "Not Charging" and the LED in the magsafe cable is dim. Is this a known limitation of the older Cinema Displays?
    Thanks,

I had the same problem. I found this

.. which suggestes "wiggling" the magsafe connector a little. It worked for me.

  • IPad displaying "Not Charging" Symbol

My iPad is displaying some weird behaviour. In the top right corner, it is displaying the "Not Charging" symbol. I have tried almost every remedy I can. I put the AC adapter in many outlets, did not work. Tried the charging cord on my PC, did not work. I tried my iPad with my sisters identical charger, that worked. I tried my 5th generation iPod on my charger, it worked. I reset it, turned it on and off, tried flipping the adapter, flipped the charger, and none of it worked. Some say the battery have died. Any diagnostics?

Check to be sure you are using the charger that came with the ipad and not one from an iPhone or some third-party charger. Your profile and post make no mention of which iPad you have. Everything up to the iPad 4 require a 10W charger. The iPad Air requires a 12W charger. It should be printed on the power brick itself.

  • TS3274 why wont my ipad chage up? keeps displaying not charging

pulg my charger in and the ipad keepsdisplaying a not charging message. anyone else encountered this?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Battery suddenly displays "Not Charging"

    Hey guys.
Been reading through the forum trying to solve my issue, but after an SMC reset and a PRAM reset, I'm at a loss. The battery is at 6% currently, and no matter what I seem to do, won't charge. This is a new development on a Feb 2010 MBP, running Snow Leopard.
    Here are the battery stats:
    Charge Information:
      Charge remaining (mAh):          386
      Fully charged:          No
      Charging:          No
      Full charge capacity (mAh):          6269

Try a different AC adapter. If you don't have access to one, make a Genius Bar appointment — they'll have one to test with, and can run other tests in addition.

  • Battery Not Charging after 10.6.8 Update (Macbook Pro 13' i5 2011)

    Hi,
I own a 4 months old Macbook Pro 13in with i5 processor. I was using it normally until yesterday, when a software update prompting for enhancements on thunderbolt drivers and some stuff regarding OS X Lion was displayed. I started the software update, let the macbook plugged in and went to sleep.
Today I found out that my battery is not charging anymore (when plugged in, the magsafe led lights green and the energy saver displays Not Charging). I've already tried to restart SMC to no result(unplugged, waited for 15 sec, plugged again and after 5 sec turned it on).
Basically, my macbook is now useless. I use it mainly in the college, cant have it always plugged in and my second half classes start tomorrow!
I dont have a time machine backup.
I dont want to open the macbook since its still under warranty. What should I do?

  • New ipad3 not charging (while it is NOT in use)

My ipad3 stopped charging --, either with the 10W power adapter came with it, or via a macbook.  I found it once I left it for charging overnight and with only 21% charged by the morning.  No matter what I try, it is always displaying "not charging".   I closed all the apps running in the background, and i have both power cycled and hard reboot the unit, still i got not charing status.
    any ideas?
    thanks.

Very few apps run in the background, and there is no hard reboot. It is a reset which is similar to a computer restart.
If no change after powering the iPad off and on and/or after a reset, call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby. If there is, take the power adaptor with you as well.

  • Nokia E72 not charging on pin or USB

Hi, I am having a charging issue with my Nokia E72 which has the latest software. I have taken it into a Nokia Service centre but they cannot resolve.
The phone will not charge and when you connect the charger into the small pin socket the phone displays 'not charging' and then 'sim registration failed' and takes about 1 minute to pick the 02 signal up again. I have tried different chargers and currently carrying 3 battery's all the time and charging them in my old E71.
In addition to this when I listen to music via my parrot in car the music cuts out every 3 seconds as if something is interfering with the Bluetooth connection. However when I plug the phone into the in car charger (and after the above messages and signal loss) this does not happen. Very strange.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
So two months have passed. My phone has been serviced three times since August. It usually worked fine for several hours and was getting broken again.
During the last service visit my phone had its main board replaced along with the LCD screen and one part of chassis front (there was a tiny scratch and now it's gone  ).
The device has been working well for 24 hours now. I managed to configure it and upload all data. So now - fingers crossed.
    Gretings!
    M.
    P.S.
Earlier the service guys did the "digital block tuning" (or sth like that) but it dit not help too much.

  • "not charging" on 12w adapter

    unit: 16gb ipad mini
    adapter: 12w wall
working up until last night, until this morning....
    issue:
    1. pc not detecting the unit, but if turned off and connected, the unit boots ups (sign that it reads)
    2. if using the adapter (12w) displays "not charging"
question: what could be the problem, is it
    1. the cable (faulty)
    2. the adapater (faulty)
    3 the unit itself
    Thanks in Advance!

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • What does "Not Charging" mean?

I have a MacBook Pro 17-inch, Early 2008.  My menu bar for the battery is now displaying "Not Charging."  That phrase is not in Help Center for "Battery Conditions."  What does it mean?  What should I do?

Your MBP is not charging.  Can't get no clearer than that.  If http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 Apple Portables: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and/or   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM do not work, you will need to take your MBP to your local AS or AASP for a check up.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!
