Disregard "Flash Player 12 installer hangs at 95% complete. Repeatedly." below.

I originally asked this question, then found an answer.
I followed a suggestion to trash an application support folder from the Library, and restarted. Then the installer worked OK.
Still not plekased with Adobe online help, and I can't find a way to respond to my own question, so I'm posting this instead.

We're getting a lot of these complaints with this latest update and Snow Leopard...
I made a PDF with illustrated, detailed instructions to resolve it: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf
Use THIS file with those instructions: Flash Player 12.0.0.44 (Mac OS X)

  • Adobe Flash Player 12 installation error

I cannot install Adobe Flash Player 12. I go through all of the setting and just when I think it's about to finish I get the "General Installation Error" message.
I've trashed all the Flash Player folders in my library but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I am having the same issue.
This link is probably more useful though not in my case.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-mac.ht ml
I too get the General Installation error and have followed the advice on the Adobe website.
"Close all browsers if an error message appears."
I have closed all browsers (force quit) but still get the "General Installation Error", interesting I also get update Garmin communicator.
I have 18GB free on my drive.
Any ideas what would cause the Mac Installation packages to fail?

  • Flash Player stops installation 50% of way

I have installed Chrome but Flashplayer 11 goes half way through the process and says I have to turn off Internet Explorer.  I did the suggested steps as the help guide said but cannot get passed this 50% success mark.  Enabled scripting(already enabled anyway) turned off pop up blocker. Java keeps bothering me to update. Is this the proplem?

Java is unrelated to Flash Player, but you should update it anyway (security fixes).
Try this: download the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header and save to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.

  • (still) Unable to install Flash Player update (process hang)

I haven't been able to install updates for Flash Player for over a year now. Ever since the website changed to the web-install package, i've been unable to update from the download page (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/). The file is downloaded successfully, i double click it, the security message pops up asking if i'm sure i'd like to run it (not UAC as i have that disabled -- i mean the somewhat uncommon Windows one when opening .exe files from the internet)...and then it hangs. Install_flashplayer shows up in the process list of task manager, and the file is moved to a temp location and subsequently deleted. That's it. I don't get the installation menu, nothing.
For some reason the only way i'm able to update is if i get the pop-up upon logging into my computer, telling me a new version is out, in which case it updates as expected. The problem is it sometimes takes MONTHS for this pop-up to finally appear, which means i'm left browsing the web with outdated (sometimes vulnerable) Flash components for the entire duration. On top of this, sometimes the pop-up won't simply update, but instead links me to the aforementioned site which does not work.
Any help? I've tried almost everything, including uninstalling my old version in preparation for a clean install of Flash. Nothing works. About a year ago i was able to use the offline archive instead, which worked a treat, but i can't access it anymore.
EDIT: should have included specs. I'm using Windows Vista 32bit, and i always make sure to keep everything updated. UAC is disabled, and running the installer in Admin mode has no effect. I'm using Firefox, and have ESET as my anti-virus.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/  gets you the "Stub" installer.
    You need the following:
    Flash Player Uninstaller
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Right click each and "Save target as".
Save them to your Downloads folder - DO NOT RUN them yet.
    Reboot your PC.
BEFORE anything else, run the Uninstaller.
Then run the ActiveX installer, and the (other browser) installer.
Note: there are all FULL "offline" installers and uninstallers. They don't need to download anything else during the install process.

  • Flash Player 16 Installer opens but won't run on 64 bit Wdws 7 and IE 11

I have Flash Player ActiveX Ver. 15.0.0.246 installed on my Dell Inspiron N7010 (Intel Core i3 processor) laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS with Service Pack 1, 6 GB of RAM, and using Internet Explorer Ver. 11.0, 32-bit browser.  Flash Player notified me that it was time to update to Flash Player Ver 16.0, and took me to the website to download the installer.  I first disabled my anti-virus (ESET NOD32 Ver 8.0.) and malware (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Ver 2.0.4) software, and then clicked the 'Install' button on the website.  After I gave my security software permission to let it run, it opened the blank black installer window (labeled "Adobe Flash Player Installer").  Nothing happened after that.  No indications that anything was happening appeared in either the Adobe website window or the installer window.  (The Adobe website window had advanced to "Step 2 of 3.")  I gave it 10 or 15 minutes, then clicked the red "X" button in the upper right corner of the window to close it, but the installer window would not close.  I had to use the Windows Task Manager to shut it down.  I tried rebooting and re-attempting several times, but never was able to get the installer to run.
The installer ran fine on my other computer, which has the same configuration / version nos. of OS, IE, AV, A-Malware, and Flash Player, and I was able to successfully upgrade it to FP 16.0.
I have noticed that several others on this forum are having this problem, but with other combinations of OS and browsers, and I did not find a definitive solution for this problem that appeared to be applicable to my combination of software (defined above). If anyone with this combination of software has solved this problem, would you please be kind enough to provide a step-by-step description of the solution, on this forum, in layman's terms, and provide screen shots where little-known Windows, IE, or Flash Player steps / processes / menu choices are involved.
    Thanks,
    Spaceadventurer

  • Adobe flash player crashes or hangs!

Ok, so whilst using Firefox, lately adobe flash player has been crashing upon opening a YouTube video. This could be when i click a video and the new page opens and freezes, or when I actually get to the video but it then crashes. Alongside this, sometimes the videos are delayed to start, as in the video starts bufferng but doesn't actually start playing until later.
I've tried many proposed solutions but none seem to have worked
    (Tried:
    New profile
    Clean Install
    Clear cache,cookies, etc..
    Disable plugins
    Addons (video without flash, etc...)
Protected mode (for FF and Flash)
Virus scans (had nothing bad that was scanned)
    Disable/ Enable hardware acceleration
Updating Flash (i'm using the latest version... 15.0.0.233)
Alongside this, i've tried using Chrome which also gives similar results, crash, hanging or the video delay at the start.
    What could be wrong?
Heres a crash report i submitted (the latest one)
    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/a34c35d8-0588-4dd1-8ae9-7e0412141122

disabling flash player seems to stop the problem (should do in theory, anyway). I've disabled it and haven't had any freezes or hangs ( as it should be expected) but videos still delay a bit before they actually play, they stream and stuff but just doesn't play instantly. could this be down to my internet (im using WiFi). i assume by disabling the flash, youtube is using html5? or this other plugin i have called "shockwave for director 12.1.4.154". either way, i'm glad it doesn't crash and freeze, but getting rid of that strange delay before the video starts would be amazing.
all the plugins i have on FF.

  • How to automate Flash Player Debugger installs

    Hello,
Everytime we push the latest version of Flash Player, Flash Player Debugger stops working and requires to upgrade.  I am working on making this upgrade automated along with our Flash deployments.
I tested installing  Flash Player Debugger on a test PC, I don't see it listed inAdd/Remove programs wizard.  When I go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ page, it reports I have the Flash player but when I go to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/192/tn_19245.html page, it says I have the Content Debugger ActiveX Player.  It's unclear if both of these versions would co-exist.
Importantly, I wanted to know what all the Adobe packages/suits that get the Adobe Flash Player Debugger version bundled in.  From http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/192/tn_19245.html it seems Flex distribution will have Adobe Flash Player Debugger version bundled.
    -Govardhan

    Hi,
Since Microsoft embeds Flash Player in Internet Explorer on Wndows 8.x/10, the standalone uninstaller does not work to remove the ActiveX control on Windows 8.x/10 (it does uninstall the NPAPI and PPAPI plugins.)  Instructions for uninstalling the debugger on Windows 8.x are posted at Adobe Flash Player - Downloads which is the same page that contains the links for the Windows 8.x debugger installers.  Instructions for uninstalling are directly below the links for the debuggers.
Since Microsoft embeds Flash Player on Windows 8.x/10 they lock the files to prevent users from uninstalling it as it is an integrated component of IE.  Since you have manually unregistered ActiveX components you may have performed irreparable damage to the file system, which is beyond the scope of this Flash Player installer forums.  This could by why you're getting the message that the update does not apply to you, however, that's difficult to ascertain at this point.  I'd start with running Windows Update and see if it includes an update for "Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8.x".  If it's not there you may need to install other updates before the "Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8.x" update shows up.  If it doesn't show up at all you'll need to contact Microsoft for their assistance.

  • Flash Builder 4: Installation hangs

    Hi,
just downloaded Flash Builder 4 and try to install, but installation hangs on at "Installing..." screen. What can cause the problem?
    I use Windows XP SP3.

Where did you extract your installer to? There's a known bug where a subcomponent hangs when installing on windows when the path contains a leading space https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-26442.

  • FlexUnit CI - Flash Player linux installation

I am now attempting to do some CI testing with the FlexUnit Ant task on the Linux platform, specifically RHEL 6 (x64). I am finding the installation of the Linux debug stand-alone player not as straight-forward as I had hoped. I finally found using google that additional packages are required:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/153/tn_15380.html
    http://install-manual.blogspot.com/2011/01/run-linux-flash-player-projector-in.html
That is fine (even though the blog post lists a different set of packages than Adobe does).   I am wondering about the "bitness" of the sa linux player package:  is it 32-bit or 64 bit?  I am wondering if I should be installing 32 bit versions of the dependent packages, or using the 64 bit ones that I presume the package manager is going to find.
Also, a colleague told me that he thought the Flash player was 32 bit and that it had to be used in conjunction with 32 bit Java on Linux. Could anyone comment on this?
    Thanks,
    Trevor

I just found this post in the "More Like This" column to the right.  Strange that my search of the forum did not show that thread earlier.  Anyway, good Mr. Legros gives some advice that I found helpful: the stand-alone flash player is only available in a 32-bit version. But it can be made to work on a 64-bit Linux server.  I just got it working this morning. Both 64-bit and also some 32-bit dependencies must be installed.
On a 64-bit OS like RHEL 6, simply using "yum install <package>" will install the 64-bit version of the package.  e.g.
    yum install libcurl
To get the 32-bit version, use:
    yum install libcurl.i686
I grabbed the latest 10.3 Linux projector sa player from the Adobe site, version 10.3.183.11.
On RHEL 6, here is the list of packages I installed per the Adobe Linux readme (note some were already installed and did not need to be updated). All of these are x64:
    libdl.so.2
    libpthread.so.0
    libX11.so.6
    libXext.so.6
    libXt.so.6
    * libfreetype.so.6    This was listed, but due to a dependency problem, I did not install
    libfontconfig.so.1
    libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
    libgobject-2.0.so.0
    libglib-2.0.so.0
    libm.so.6
    libc.so.6
    libnss3
    cURL
Then I checked this helpful blog post and installed the following additional modules (32-bit):
    libcurl.i686
    libcurl-devel.i686
There were more modules listed, but I only installed these... (the less changes to a system, the better).
Ok, at this point, I could run the "flashplayerdebug" executable and launch the GUI window, but I was seeing this warning in the console: (flashplayerdebugger:17237): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "clearlooks". To get rid of this, I also installed:
    gtk2-engines.i686
After all the above the player opens fine with no warnings, though I have not ran any SWFs yet.  When I close the GUI window, however, I do see a warning and a critical error:
(flashplayerdebugger:19650): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: instance with invalid (NULL) class pointer
    (flashplayerdebugger:19650): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_handlers_disconnect_matched: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed
This seems to be a bug in the player itself.  I just hope it does not cause me any issues.
I hope this is helpful to someone else.  I know it will be helpful to me the next time I have to install the player on Linux!
    Regards,
    Trevor

  • Flash Player 11 installer started but the installation dialog was not shown

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and did not have any firewall software installed.
Task Manager showed that the installer “install_flash_player_ax_64bit.exe” was running but the installation dialog did not show. After about a minute, the installer itself closed automatically.
I have tried the following tasks but were of no avail:
    (1) Uninstalled previous version via “Control Panel” -> “Programs and Features” and deleted folders named with “Macromed” and “Flash Player”
    (2) Uninstalled Acrobat
    (3) Reset Internet Explorer settings
    (4) Cleaned up everything left behind the Windows temporary folders
This problem also occurred when I tried to install Acrobat Reader X.
Please advise if I missed anything before a fresh installation, or whether there’s a necessity to reinstall my PC so as to get the installer works again.
Thank you very much in advance.

I could install Flash Player 11 successfully using the offline installer.
However, I have no idea about why the online installer of Flash Player and Reader do not work at all - started in the background and closes automatically after about a minute
