Dissapearing Menubar Items

Hi all
My Wife and I have a seperate account each on my Mac. We have both been having this problem for a couple of months now. Every now and then if we Restart or Log out/in again our menubar items such as the time, Bluetooth, Keychain screen lock, Display resolution etc, etc, dissapear without any obvious cause. We have to go into Sys Prefs etc. and switch on the various options again to get the items back again. Can anyone throw any light on what might be causing this?
Thanks in advance...

Hi, Derek.
In addition to Michael's suggestions:
1. Did you install a hacked version of Front Row on the Mac in question? If so, see my "Uninstalling the Front Row hack" FAQ.
2. If you have any third-party menu bar extras installed — the icons on the right side of the menu bar other than the Spotlight icon — then one of these may be problematic. Often they're launched as Startup or Login items. If an errant Startup or Login Item is the cause, my "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem. See also the "Startup and Login Items" chapter of my book, which you noted having in an earlier post.
Good luck!

  • Not showing Menubar item and Title text in Menu painter screen

    Hi,
perhaps you didn´t activate the GUI status. Go to transaction SE38, enter your programme´s name, press ctrl + shift + F5. System displays all components in your programme. Open the nodes for GUI status and GUI title .... and those might be inactive.
Otherwise, you didn´t assign the menubar and title to your programme.

  • Reorder Menubar Items?

I know that some Menubar Items can be ordered as you please by using cmd+click, but almost every single program out there that sticks an icon in the menubar isn't actually a genuine menubar item! As such, they cannot by any conventional means be reordered! This drives someone like me insane who has an order in which I prefer the items in my menubar to be. Does anyone know of a program that allows you to change the order of these false items?

I tried all of the menubar icons on my 12" Powerbook and found that all of them could be rearranged in any order (except Spotlight of course). Perhaps you have corruption of a plist? I don't know myself which one that would be. Hopefully someone in-the-know will reply.

  • Disappearing startup menubar items??

Ever since I updated to 10.4.3 I had problems with disappearing menubar items. I have like 10 items (clock, battery, bluetooth, menumeters, ichat, airport, etc)
Usually happened after I restart the computer after it's been on for a day or more. Sometimes the bluetooth icon is gone along with the clock, sometimes the startup items also gone. That I had to re-add it back to the account login. But for the clock and bluetooth when I opened their preferences...the box is still checked (it still said show status on the menubar)
    Anyone also had this problem?
    Thanks
    CJ

Thanks, although the problem seems to be happening at a system level, not a user level as the same issue is apparent for both accounts.
My fiance noticed it first and she doesn't have any extra menu items installed. Im using Gmail notifier and skype now that I think about it. Althought the only recent update I picked up wat 10.4.5 (not today's security update).
We didn't have any issues right after upgrading the OS so maybe it was just a problem waiting to come up????
I'm trying to replace some of the menulets and systemui files from the 10.4.5 combo update as suggested elsewhere...
    Thanks again.

  • Spry Menubar items reversed

Really stumped. The Spry horizontal menubar items appear in
verse order in Dreamweaver (Mac) and in preview. I tried entering
the items in reverse order, to get them in the correct order. That
works...except that Internet Explorer on my Dell laptop (XP) puts
them in the correct order. Whatever order I design it in, IE for XP
    reverses it.
I've done other websites without trouble. I figure there's
something in the Javascript (and I'm dumb with Javascript) OR
something in the CSS. I'm pretty good with CSS, but could easily be
    missing something.

I have the same problem. Looks great in FF, Safari, Opera,
but in IE the dropdowns are dancing all over the place. Suspect
it's something in the hover classification, but can't figure out
    where the problem is:

  • Missing menubar items...

Since installing SL, the menubar items in the upper right corner of the screen have disappeared. No shortcuts to volume, power, airport, bluetooth, spotlight, date & time...nothing. occasionally they reappear, but mousing over them just gives me the beachball. i've upgraded to 10.6.1, and done a permissions repair. no change
i've also tried selecting those options in System Preferences, and that application slowed way down whenever i try to select or deselect options for that part of the menubar (like having time & date show).
Also, the keyboard shortcuts for screenshots doesn't work. Grrr... i know they stripped this OS down, but seriously!
anyone have any similar problems/advice on how to proceed?
    thanks!

I retract all my grumpy declarations!
it was related to a 3rd party menubar item! specifically, iStat...i had deleted the application to see if that was the problem before reading Barney's response. but then i read the proper way to uninstall at their site. i had to reinstall cause there wasn't a preference pane anymore, but now the menubar is back in effect and screenshots work again. yay...
    and thanks, Barney. very helpful.

  • Stop bluetooth menubar item from appearing?

When the battery on my mighty mouse starts to get "low" the stupid blue tooth menubar item always appears and flashes.
Problem is, once the battery is "low" it usually goes another 5 to 7 days before it dies.
Is there a way to stop the blue tooth menubar item from showing up... ever.. at all?

Of course I did that, perhaps my post wasn't clear.
I always have the "show bluetooth in the menubar" option turned off. But when the batteries in my mouse or keyboard get low the menubar item turns itself on, apparently in some attempt to badger me into changing my batteries before they actually need to be changed, maybe apple is in collusion with battery manufacturers or something.
What I want to know is how to turn off the bluetooth menubar item PERMANENTLY so that the first hint I get that my batteries are dead is... they die. I really don't need to know before that moment, plus the warning comes up DAYS before the batteries actually die.

  • Events on Menubar Items, Not on Submenu

Hi, i would like to know if there's a way to intercept the

if you have a menu File with submenus New, Open, Save,... the event
when you click on FILE , NOT on one of the submenu.

  • Howto enable disable menubar items in actionscript

    Hello,
My problem is that i want to enable/disable buttons in a
menubar according to the loaded page.
So what i did was when the user clicks on the menubar, it
triggers a function. Inside that function there will become a check
on which page is at front. According to that page i am gonna set
    menuitems on and off.
Thats the idea i had, so now my problem.
I first try to create a simple solution like my code beneath.

I'd suggest changing things around a bit. See if the
following works for you. The clickHandler() method has the syntax
    you're looking for.

  • Safari Menubar Items Disappeared

The menubar on Safari is still there, but everything in it is gone. When I click "View>Customize Toolbar..." nothing happens. Originally just the URL bar was gone. Now the back/forward buttons are gone too.

    Hi,
Click View / Customize Toolbar again.
You have to drag the default bar up or objects individually.
Just drag them straight up toward the Safari Address Bar.
Hopefully you removed all these files...

  • Menubar Items Disappear after restart

Namely the date and time (even if it's locked in the System Preferences) as well as the Volume icon... noticed this since installing iTunes 7.

Quicksilver isn't showing in the menubar.
Can't seem to locate any reference to Growl on the mac - except for a plist.
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24638 I would assume it would be this version but cannot be sure.
I think it may have been downloaded with a version of Mercury Messenger or Adium. I don't use either of these apps anymore.
Come to think of it I have Elgato Software EyeTV version 2.3.1 which has a Front Row style menu now - could that be responsible?
I also demo-ed a version of MediaCentral v 1.2.1 which also has a similar Front Row UI. Or am I barking up the wrong tree!
The only Application Enhancer I can find is Audio Hijack.

  • Menubar item

I don`t know if this is the right forum.
i wanted to know if there is any help for creating a menubar application.
I would like to create a mailchecker for thunderbird. and need some help.
the second thing: is there a way to change the beachball?

    dichterDichter wrote:
    ok, maybe i asked wrong...
i just want an application that i can place in the menubar.
    like the airport symbol.
is there a documentation how to do that?
    NO.
However, there are some 3rd party apps that will let you do this. I use an application launcher called [Butler|http://www.manytricks.com/butler> that lets you do this. I think there are other apps can do it as well.

  • How to lock Menubar-Items

I want to restrict some of my Applications for special Users. For example I need to delete, lock or make unusable some functions like the "Add new Music"-Thing in the menu of iTunes.
In some applications menus are kind of "grey" and unclickable in several situations. Is it possible to modify these attributes somewhere?

Hi keinpanik, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Have you tried using Parental Controls for other Users in the Accounts Pref Pane?
I'm not positive, but I don't think you can modify just individual functions within an APP to any great degree.

  • New item in menubar - need it gone now

Menubar items: dont remember which folder holds these items, does anyone recall ? I need to uninstall

that didnt work / wont work. Is that only for Apple installed items ? It does work with for example:
    iSync
    Keychain access
    Internet Connect
    Apple Remote Access
So again, does anybody know where the Menubar items are actually installed ? I want to remove these items from the folder where they get installed....

    /* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
/* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
.MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
.MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
and centered in its parent container.
MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.
