Dissolving words in a title sequence

Hi there,
I am new to Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5 and I am trying to create a title sequence. I have a block of text (its a quote from the bible) and I want to dissolve one word at a time until I have the last two words left on the screen (which happens to be the title of my short film). I am a complete novice on this sort of stuff could someone help!

Library > Behaviors > Text Sequence > Text-Basic > Fade Words Out. You may want to read in the Help how to use behaviors.

The people at the Apple store gave me a long, tedious workaround which is open Pages and bring in logo.  Export it as a PDF.  Open the PDF in Review and then "Save As" a jpg to the desktop and drag and drop into the imovie.  Even with this process, the text will sometimes shift.  When it works, it looks good, the logo comes up, then the second line fades in under it as part of the build and then the third line completes the graphic.  It would something this easy and straight forward would be easy.

I did the work around for the titles/jpg's in this short video.
I'll try your fix on the next one.  I have 22 short 3-5 minute videos to produce
and I'm on number 5.  This should save me a bunch of time.
It would appear that you know more than the guy at the Apple Store.
    Thank goodness for on-line forums.
I already tried fixing them individually as you suggested,
by going the crop/fit route.  However, even then,
the second in the series had always shifted.
The first and the third images lined up, but not number 2..
So  I brought in all the images, (1, 2 and 3).
and then the 2nd image again and put it in the third position
in the sequence on the time line. I deleted the "original" 2nd image.
So I had 1, 3, then 2.  Then I dragged and dropped the correct number two
into position two and it worked.  So what happens is that the
client logo appears, then that stays put and the next line dissolves in
and then the third dissolves in.  They are three separate titles, but they
are aligned perfectly so that they build as I dissolve between them.
I think the problem with the edit copy route would be that while
I could edit/copy the logo, I couldn't position text through the
iMovie text function exactly as it only gives you middle or bottom third etc.
Each title with the product name is positioned individually depending on
length and number of lines. By going through Pages, I can position the logo
and the text exactly.  Also, some logos are horizontal, while others
are square etc., so text positioning is crucial.Anyhow,
I'll try the global approach for the next one and see how that works.
Thanks very much for your insight and especially for your prompt reply.
I trust you're inside on this gorgeous July 4th because you're
making money on your computer. ;-)HarveyVOn 7/4/2011 3:57 PM, Apple Support Communities Updates wrote:

  • Moving Final Cut Pro X title sequences to external drive

So I am editing on my laptop from a USB drive. My video resources, projects, and everything else are all on an external USB drive for portability...or so I thought. I took the dirve to a second machine and everything comes up except the Title sequences that I created in Motion.
How can I move the Title Sequences from my laptop HD to my USB drive, and still retain the connections to my existing projects?

Motion templates are in the Movies folder in a folder called Motion Templates. This is user specific. You would have to move or copy this from the laptop user's Movies folder to the other machine user's Movies folder.

  • Opening Title Sequence - Technical & Aesthetic Ideas?

I am about to embark on a Project and am working out the details of the opening title sequence. Here’s what I envision. The sequence opens with a still image. Slowly, blue paint drips down from the top of the frame and finally covers the still image. The title then embosses up through the blue paint and is formed in the paint.
I’m thinking about doing the "paint" in Painter, as I can create faux 3D with the light and shadow of the natural media brushes there. This will be output as .PSD and may be adjusted in Photoshop, Exported as Layer Comps to vary the drips of paint.
In PrPro, I plan on Keyframing the Motion>Position, and maybe even Motion>Scale with the Aspect Ratio unlocked so I can adjust the Scale in the Vertical to vary the paint drips.
The embossed title text will probably be done in Blufftitler, or similar with maybe some Lighting Effects added to dynamically highlight the "depth" of the paint.
I’m posting for both technical feedback, as well as aesthetic feedback. Besides Painter, Photoshop and PrPro, I also have AE, but think that I can do the animation in PrPro. Still, I’m not locked into that, nor am I locked into using Blufftitler for the text.
    Any thoughts?
    TIA,
    Hunt

    Dag,
Now back when I was in film school, Marshall McLuhan had just published Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man a couple of years before. It was required reading.
Seriously, I understand what you're saying, and thank you. In this case, the whole tone of the piece will be set up by that opening sequence, or at least I hope so. At this stage, there are no real "bells n whistles," or at least I hope not. I will try to keep myself reigned in, so that they do not creap into this footage.
    Appreciated,
    Hunt

  • HT5176 Is there a command to capitalize certain words, for example title of books, using dictation?

Is there a voice command to capitalize certain words, for example title of a book, while using voice dictation?

Yes.  You can say the word "cap" to capitalize the next word you say. Or say "caps on" to get the next letter to be a capital.
More info on dictation commands can be found in the user guide. Under Dictation.

  • First time editing a title sequence. Help!

I am editing a 5-15 second title sequence for a short film. I've imported my footage which doesn't come individual shots. I'm placed the marker on the entry point of the footage that I want. I believe I've succesfully muted the accompanying audio so it won't play during the final edit.
    My questions are these:
    1. The footage I am using has water marks and debris within the footage, as well as the footage is a little too dark. How do I edit out the excess fuzz and brighten the      footage?
    2. Is it possible to create a clipping mask for the title in Premiere Pro?

Or Google, lots of tutorials on the net e.g. YouTube.

  • How to Create 'Catch Me If You Can' Opening title sequence in Motion

I assume that this was done in after effects, but is it possible to create this in Motion. Also, I am interested in creating an animated dash line, instead of a solid line. Is this possible, has anyone done it? Examples?
Here is the clip (the second clip down)

  • How do you add a dissolve transition to an entire sequence at once?

I know there is a simple way to add the default dissolve transition to a whole sequence at once. I did a recital with two cameras using the PPR Multicamera. I want to add a dissolve transition but there's plenty of them and I don't want to do that one at a time.
    Thanks

Go to the Premiere Pro forum and post your question there. That's where the experts are.

  • Is Dynamic Link best approach toward building/integrating AE title sequences for PP TV Master?

I’m attempting to create my first TV Pilot using Premiere Pro and After Effects using down converted 4k 29.97 -1080P 29.97 for the full screen portions which I have now roughly arranged in Premiere Pro. I would appreciate advice and any useful links toward, how should I best approach building the show’s title sequences???
Reading comments about work flow here, I’m thinking I should start my title builds in After Effects in equivalent 4K 29.97 set up (still finding the AE setting for do this confusing?) then possibly creating  “a composition right in AE and then import it to PrPro project via Adobe Dynamic Link -> Import After Effects Composition...”
Does this sound about right? Any tips/links would be greatly appreciated by this FCP user in transitioning over to PP/AE. I also have Mocha for AE but have yet to explore how to do three way work flows...Any links on that would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks for your input guys. This forum has already proved so useful in making the FCP transition and learning these great new tools!
    Best,

AE is obviously awesome tool for titling!
When you create your brand new AE comp, dialog box with ALL settings appears.

  • No Title Sequence on Burned DVD

I just created a movie in imovie and 'shared' it to idvd. I created my title sequence and previewed my movie, tested all my chapter etc. everything was perfect. So I burned. When I previewed my movie in a dvd player and computer it completely skipped over the title sequence and went right into playing the movie. Any ideas how how to fix?

Are you using iTunes purchased music? If so, it is a known problem. See last post on this thread for a workaround.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5046586&#5046586
    Other things to try
Use a good brand DVD-R like Verbatim or Maxcell
Save project as a disk image
Burn disk image to DVD by using Disk Utility
    Burn at 2x speed
    Hope this helps

  • Shortening a title sequence

I know this is a dumb question, but how do you shorten a title sequence without keeping all the elements.  For example, if you use the "winners cricle" title, there are 5 text lines.  I only want to use 2 out of the 5, so how do I delete the other 3?  I tried all basic thoughts like the razor blade and trim tool, but all it does is shorten then length of the title, but keep all 5 lines of text.  Even if I delete the text, it will just effect to a blank page and keep all 5 lines of text.  Help!  Thanks!

Select the title clip in the timeline and place the playhead so you can see the text you want to remove. Double click the text in the viewer and use the delete key on your keyboard to remove it or select the title tab in the inspector and highlight the text to be removed and again use the delete key. Once you unselect the title in the timeline the bounding box around the empty text box will disappear. You can trim the title clip to whatever length you want to set the length of time it will be displayed.

  • Creating TV Title Sequence Help

I have created many successful tv shows using Final Cut Express, and I am embarking on the 10th season of my successful reality show.
I am introducing a new Title Sequence for the 60 opening and I need help!
I would like to know which effects and software you would suggest to best construct an opening.
I don't know if anyone has seen shows like 'Survivor' & 'Big Brother', but most of the shows in that genre take action clips and seem to change their appearance, and overlap them.
It's hard to describe, but if anyone can offer some advice that would amazing!

Most of the TV show opens can be done in FCE. If I remember rightly, there's nothing in the Survivor open that can't be reproduced pretty closely in FCE. The logo is obviously made in a graphics application, mostly likely Illustrator and/or Photoshop. The CSI show opens can all be done in FCE. Most of the 24 open can be done in FCE. The graphical element for the numbers would need something like After Effects or Motion, though you could probably do most of it in LiveType, or something that looks similar. The more graphical the open the more likely it needs a specialist compositing application.

  • THE WORDS IN MY TITLES...... AREN'T SHOWING UP WHEN I PLAY THE DVD's ON TV!

I'm using two different title windows....LOWER THIRD & UPPER. The words show up fine on the computer but in playing the completed DVD's in the DVD player, the LOWER THIRD bottom line and the UPPER only line, aren't appearing on the TV screen. I'm using iMovie'09. Can this be corrected without starting all over again???
