Distance off by over 90%

Hi. I've had a Nike + iPod for quite a while, and recently my old sensor's battery ran out (I assume). I bought a new sensor at the Apple story a few weeks back. Now, when I link my iPod to the new sensor and try running, it measures about 1/8 of the distance I run. For instance, when I run 1/2 a mile on the treadmill, it's showing me 0.07 miles run. I checked it again to see, after I run 400 m, what it shows me. It displays less than 100 m.
I've tried calibrating three times now, twice walk and once with run. It rejects my 400 m attempts because it says that I haven't run that amount, when clearly I have according to the treadmill. On other occasions, I've run more than a mile outside and it showed up as 0.15 miles, so it's not just a treadmill vs. ground problem. I've tried unplugging it, rebooting the iPod, re-linking to the sensor, everything I can think of.
I also bought my girlfriend a Nike + iPod kit, brand new, from the same store. Her nano is 4th gen, and she has almost the exact same problem. We walked for a good 20 minutes at a brisk pace, and it showed only something like .1 miles traveled.
Do we have a batch of terrible sensors here, or is there a fix to this?

I have the same exact problem! Everything the same. Just bought the new sensor. Tried to calibrate it 6 6 times. 2 on a 1 mile track and 4 times on a treadmill. What is the deal? Did you get yours to work? LEt me know. Thanks, Marni

  • The location of my hometown (Hysham, Montana) is off by over 50 miles ever since Apple Maps came out.  I have been reporting off and on ever since but it has never corrected.  What do I need to do to get this fixed?!

The location of Hysham in Apple Maps is off by over 50 miles and has been ever since the advent of the app.  I have gone through the motions many times to place the pin the correct location.  Unfortunately, no one at Apple seems to care if Hysham, Montana is plotted in the correct location or not.  The location displayed in Apple Maps is quite literally in the middle of nowhere.  If someone were to rely on Apple Maps to get to Hysham may very well end up marooned in the midst of muddy two track road in the summer or stuck in a snowdrift in the winter with little or no hope of expedient assistance.  Other than the reporting feature in Maps, there appears to be no other means to report mistakes and there appears to be no expedient means at Apple to filter through reports and fix the errors.  In sum, What do I have to do to get the location of Hysham fixed in Apple Maps?  Much thanks!

You have done all that you can. Apple maps depends on 3rd party map data solutions. As problems are reported, they are reported to the data providers. How and when they decide to make changes is up to them.
You can also let Apple know you are disappointed in this via feedback at www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

  • Unable to turn off voice over and all of a sudden the touch screen is extremely slow to respond.

I am unable to turn off Siri/voice over and the touch screen is nearly unresponsive.  Brought it to Best Buy to have the geeks look at it and and weren't really receptive unless I ponied up some cash for a service plan.  Was hoping someone could help me out.  Thanks!

    - What hapens when you
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. I
    - Next see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:
iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)
    - Then try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My iTunes card is NOT paying off my over due balance!

Hey Guys! About a month ago i have a visa gift card registered to my itunes account and it had about $4 on it left so i bought one game with that on my iphone. Then I clicked on another game and it let me download that, and 2 more after that. I found it strange that they let me keep purchasing, but i figured that they would charge me through my service provider for my phone. Well a couple weeks later i tried to download a free app onto my iPhone, but it said there was an error with my last billing transaction, so i logged on to my itunes account on my computer and it said i had an over due balance of $28.20. So after speaking to apple they told me that i SHOULD BE ABLE to buy two $15 iTunes gift cards, register them and they should pay off for my over due balance. So after buying and registering these 2 $15 cards (total of $30) i went into my purchase history and it said i have $28.20 overdue, but i do have enough to pay off my outstanding balance, so i clicked on "Pay." At the top of my screen on itunes it says "Accessing iTunes Store" for 2 seconds then it goes away and nothing else happens...i sign out and back in i still have $30 in my account, i close iTunes and reopen and i still $30...Can someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when i sign out and back in it says "Your Billing info has been changed outside of iTunes, Please approve your billing information for use in the itunes store"
god i hate how they make you HAVE to in put a credit card!

  • How do I turn off voice-over service on ipad?

(Please read this all the way through to avoid confusion)
When I watch certain channels On Demand on my ipad, there is a voice-over for the visually impaired .. a narrator that describes every single little thing the characters are doing (which is amusing when it's a sex scene). I cannot find any way to turn this off. It's mostly on USA network. I have looked everywhere and can't find a way to shut it off. It has nothing to do with the closed-captioning, or the audio/secondary audio function. Can anyone help?

See this Apple doc -> iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)
    VoiceOver
If VoiceOver is on and you want to turn it off from the device instead of from iTunes, remember that a double-tap acts like a single tap and you need to use three fingers to scroll when VoiceOver is on:
    Press Home.
    Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
    Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
    Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
    Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On"  next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.
You can configure the device to display options for VoiceOver, Zoom, or White on Black when you triple-click the Home button. This feature is off by default; to enable it, tap  Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-click Home.
If VoiceOver is on and the screen is black, but you can still use the device by pressing volume up and volume down, you may have screen curtain on. Try triple-tapping using three fingers on the device display to turn off screen curtain. Or connect the device to iTunes (see above).
You can also turn it off from iTunes, that document goes over that too.

  • Out of no where, voice over seems to have taken over my phone.  can't enter password. how do I reset or turn off voice over?

Out of no where my phone suddenly showed enlarged numbers and letters.  Voice Over has taken over the phone.
The phone is unresponsive when I try to enter the password to gain accesss to the phone.  I can only power on and off and that does not stop Voice Over.  Any ideas as to what could be wrong and how I correct it?

    Greetings midgiesmom58,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that VoiceOver is enabled on your iPhone and you are having a hard time turning it off. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the Managing Accessibility features using your device section in the attached article and use iTunes to help you disable VoiceOver.
