Distance with 6g nano way off!

Hey all!
MAIN POINT: distance tracking on nano 6g with new sensor WAY off.
I've recently switched to an iPod nano 6g since my old 3g (the fat one) is slowly dying and the 6g seemed really charming with it's clip on system. That bit is charming, and as I never have sweaty hands I don't mind the touchscreen. (btw: anybody know of a waterproof case for it? It rains in England and it rains in Holland).
Using it with my old sensor worked perfectly well.
Then for some reason my old sensor stopped working (after only 300k in less than a year), but luckily the kind geniuses at the Apple store replaced it for me.
Now my distance tracking is off. A run which should be 4,5k according to Google Maps is 5,4k according to my nano. I tried calibrating it but it was already pretty much correct.
Then I tried a 3k run, which would be 5x the lap around a carefully measured park I used to calibrate.... and it was about 250m off again.
Please help because I would really like the system to work again. I don't want to be fixing every single run distance using google maps or whatever because that would really defy the purpose of using Nike+.

AGREED. I ran a 5.4 mile route today only to have the Nike+ tell me I only ran 4.2. Imagine my disappointment hearing my "feedback robot" telling me my pace was 10'18" when really it was closer to 8'.
Today was my first time using it and I wanted to recal, but I took too long "mapping it out" on google and I ended up losing the option to recal the workout I just completed.
QUESTION: If I perform another workout and subsequently recal after I complete my run, will Nike+ recal ALL of my runs?

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe
most people will tell you to do both pram and smc resets (google) and if you still have issues, either clean install (easy) or troubleshoot (hard)

  • Changed Pressure transducers with 0-5Vdc from the old 0-10. PVis way off!

Im a newby with labiew as of last week. I was tasked to change the range of new pressure transducers that were recently installed in our lab application. I am currently running 6.1 with Fp-PS-4 , FP-1601 , FP-AI-112 , and FP-RTD-124 Hardware. We are changing over from Omegadyne model PX02C1-015AV to swagelok's S-model, output 0-5, Supply V dc= 10-30 V. The pinout on the connector has already been changed and tested. I also changed the range on the points of change to 0-5 and the pv is reading way off. Im sure there is a scale in a block diagram chart somewhere, but I cannot locate it. Can anyone point to any areas where I may make these changes to correct this problem?

    Hi Dano,
You might check the Channel Configuration settings in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Under Remote Systems, expand the I/O modules underneath your 1601. Once you click on the I/O module that you are reading your transducer on, you'll see in the window to the right a Channel Configuration tab. Here, you can check the Data Configuration setting for the input Range. Make sure this is set to the expected signal range from your sensor.

My iPod's OFF/ON switch is not working and I have checked over internet that this problem is very common with iPod Nano 6th generation, my iPod is now out of warranty period. What shall i do now?? Please Suggest!!

You can do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store for a fee, get a 3rd party site to repair it, sell it for parts, or get a new one.

  • The app store screen is way off to the right and stuck with the spinning wheel. I can't close it. Should I force close? It said iPhoto did not update.

The App Store screen is way off to the right so I can't access it. It has the little spinning wheel I can see when I swipe up to see what's open. It won't close. Should I try to force it? How much more time should I give it? I did just give Google some accessibily access that it asked for. Just upgraded to Maverick. I thought everything was fine. Says iPhoto needs a retry; but I can't get to the screen to try again. Pages also says it has an update; but also says it just updated.

    Thank Carolyn,
I had tried that; but to restart it had to close, and to close it had to close the App Store, which was stuck. Finally did a force close. Am now trying to update iPhoto. We'll see if works this time.

  • Nano shuts off unexpectedly

I just received my replacement Nano. Set everything up, have all the latest updates to iTunes etc., but when a song is playing, halfway through the Nano shuts off. when I press the wakeup button the screen lights displaying a pause/play button appears with the name of the interrupted song.I have checked all settings and cannot figure this out.
    Any suggestions?

This is an indication that your headphones are not plugged all the way in. The white part of the headphones should be flush with your Nano, meaning no silver from the plug can still be seen.  The newer headphone jacks are bit tighter than in previous generations, so it requires a bit of extra force to get the headphones to fully insert.

  • My nano turns off 65 seconds after it starts to play a song

I recieved this nano as a replacement on a first generation warrenty problem. I loaded all my songs on it from my I tunes but it will play a song for only 65 seconds and then it shuts off and I have to restart it. It does not do this when it is connected to my computer. How do I fix it? i looked in settings but there is nothing there on length of play

Make sure your headphones are plugged all the way.  The white part of the headphones should be flush with the Nano, which means you shouldn't be able to see any of the silver still showing from the headphone's plug.

  • Macbook Pro to TV via HDMI - image way off center

Early 2008 15-inch Macbook Pro to TV via HDMI worked at first, now image is way off center on TV (like only showing a sliver of the computer image at the edge of the TV screen). Philips says it's an issue with the computer settings, not the TV. Any suggestions?

    Hello clamb1993,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
You can use the following article to troubleshoot your HDMI out connection:

  • Ipod nano shuts off in the middle of songs

Received a 6th generation ipod nano for Christmas, and it frequently stops playing in the middle of songs and shuts down. Anyone have any ideas? Battery power is not the issue as it has happened with the battery at nearly full charge, and also with it at less than half charge. I can usually turn it back on again, but sometimes it is more difficult. Headphones are fully plugged in so that is not the issue. Is the device defective?

If you are positive the headphones are plugged ALL the way in, meaning the white part of the headphones are flush with the Nano, also check to make sure the headphone jack is clean and clear of debris.
Otherwise, bring it in for service as it may be a hardware malfunction with the headphone jack.

  • Review of Griffin AutoPilot with iPod nano 4G

Short version: it works. It charges the 4g iPod nano, the line-out works great, as do the pause/play, skip/scan forward/reverse controls and it pauses playback when you shut your car off!!
    Full review:
Nothing on the package of the AutoPilot that I received from amazon.com ($30.85 shipped) indicates compatibility with the iPod nano 4G. Only 1G to 3G is listed. However, it works completely with the iPod nano 4G. So if you are buying this in store don't worry about what it says on the package. It works. However, don't buy it in store because in store it will probably be $50+tax. If you can stand the wait, buy it from Amazon for more than $20 less. But, hey, it's your money - do what you want!
The AutoPilot comes with the adaptor and a short (about 3 foot) mini-jack audio patch cable. The cable isn't particularly thick, so if you require half-inch think audio cables this isn't for you. However, if you care about the sound quality instead of the thickness of the cable, this will do fine. ;^) I'm not using the audio cable because we have an audio input in our Matrix via an adaptor box installed behind the dash that has a cable already plugged into it, and changing the cable would involve taking the dash apart. It, incidentally, is thicker then the provide one. Thank goodness!
The adaptor has a round pause/play button in the middle, surrounded by a glowing ring, and skip/scan back and forward controls as the outer ring on the left and right sides respectively. That is, the entire left side of the outer ring is back and entire right side of the outer ring is forward. Press and release to skip. Hold to scan. The controls work great and are easy to use blind, though, as I tested this tonight, the controls themselves are not lighted. Only the power ring around the pause/play button is lit. However that works fine once you know that inside the ring is pause/play and outside of the ring is skip/scan. I do have to say that the controls feel a little light to the touch, such that it could result in accidental track changes, though I haven't had it long enough to know if it's actually a problem and it didn't happen in my test.
There is also a small switch that sets the adaptor's audio output to "Lo" or "Hi". I believe that the "Lo" setting is used with FM transmitters, but don't quote me on it. What I can tell you with certainty is that with a line-in input you are going to want to set it to "Hi", otherwise the output volume is too low and sound quality is poor (or perhaps just low volume - I didn't test it extensively). Switched to "Hi" the volume is good/normal. In my brief test I did not detect any static or clipping. The sound quality was excellent, or at least as excellent as my factory car stereo is capable of being. I used it both sitting with the car engine off, as well as driving around town. It performed flawlessly. Note that mine shipped with the switch set to "Lo" so you will want to check the setting of this switch.
Another thing to note about this design is that if you have it right side up with "skip back" on the left, then the audio cable is coming out of the upper right corner. You probably won't want to flip it over to have it coming out the left side, as then the controls would be backward. Just something to keep in mind.
Now for the killer feature that I was hoping for and the AutoPilot didn't fail me: when you shut off your car it pauses your iPod! I can't reiterate enough just how great that feature is. I have this on my (crappy) FM transmitter that I use in our other car and while that transmitter is pretty terrible, I live with it in part because of this feature, which is just really, really wonderful. Note that it works even though power gets shut off pretty instantly to the outlet. If you haven't had this feature before it is something you'll have to get use to because you are probably in the habit of immediately hitting the pause control on your iPod after powering off the car. If you do that with this gizmo you'll actually start it playing again! Trust me, though, you'll get use to it, and you'll like it - or else!
When the adapter is receiving power and no iPod is connected, the light ring glows red. When you plug in an iPod that needs charging, it will slowly pulse a... err I'm forgetting the color (maybe a light blue???) It isn't overly bright, but it is pulsing. The slow pulsing doesn't bother me, but I imagine that there might be some for whom they'd wish it wouldn't pulse. When the iPod is fully charged it glows steadily (in theory - in my test I didn't have time for it to charge to full capacity.)
The controls work well and I find them pretty handy because, unlike the attached iPod, these controls are always in the same place. How useful they are may depend on the location of your outlet. In our Matrix it's pretty perfectly located about midway up the dash just to the right of the steering wheel. They will prove even more useful for my iPod touch.
Another thing worth noting is that this adapter eliminates the cable clutter that we had with our "SiK imp" solution. That (piece of junk) had both audio and power cables coming out of the dock connector. Moreover it had a short length of audio cable to which we had to plug the cable going into the car, and it wasn't infrequently the case the the audio cable got pulled out. With the AutoPilot the audio cable plugs into the adapter, and then a single cable leads from the adaptor to the iPod. This is a huge improvement. I was able to push almost all of the audio cable through the back of the cubby that we have it running out of, and so it pretty much has just disappeared. The AutoPilot is a big upgrade for us when it comes to cable clutter.
One last thing. Shortly after testing the AutoPilot out I ended up turning of the "shake to shuffle" feature of the iPod. The nano is so light that I bumped the cable and the nano fell out of the cubby I had it sitting in and landed on the carpet. This resulted in triggering shake to shuffle and I ended up going from a great Bob Dylan album to a great, but not exactly what I wanted, Raffi tune. Ouch. What a completely useless new feature!

Bonus item: in another thread someone complained that they couldn't connect a dock cable and a mini-jack audio cable to the new nano at the same time because it's such a tight fit. Well, I had this exact issue with the speakers we have in our bedroom. They are not iPod-specific, so I have a USB power adaptor and we use that to get power using a dock cable and plug in the speakers' audio cable to the headphone port. With the new nano we couldn't do this because the audio cable's jack was too fat and bumped up against the dock connector. Well, I noted in the review that I wasn't using the audio cable that was included with the AutoPilot and yesterday I noticed that its jack was quite thin, so I swapped it with the speaker's cable and, viola, now we can connect both a dock cable and the speakers to the headphone port at the same time. I like when I get more value out of a product then expected!

  • Preview fine in Safari but WAY OFF in Firefox, Flock, Opera....

This is really frustrating me because I can't seem to get the pages to look the same in every browser.  I don't have IE (I have a Mac) so I have no idea what it looks like...  Please help if you can.
    The page is located: http://www.promarevents.com/VA/work.html
    The css is located: http://www.promarevents.com/VA/va1.css
Here are some screenshots of what is going on:
Safari, this is how it should look...
This is Opera.  The image is pushed down and the text runs off the layer.  The same exact thing is happening in Flock and Firefox....
    Flock having the same look.
I tried changing the code so it looked good in Firefox and Opera, but then Safari was way off...  I received the files from a friend who wants me to make some "minor" changes but this is frying my brain!  Thanks!

    AlieneGirl,
Not having looked closely into the CSS, it seems that something in the background has an excessive fixed width, and the VA logo with the gradient seems to be centred in it, whereas the box is locked to the right edge.
If you use a sidebar and change its width, more and more of the VA logo becomes visible as the available width on screen is decreased.

  • JPG and TIFF colors in Bridge CS5 way off, but fine in Photoshop

Just started happening, but not sure if it was after updating to Bridge 4.0.3 or Camera RAW 6.2.  The colors for RAW and PSD files are fine in Bridge, but all JPGs and TIFFs colors are blown out and way off.  Opening the JPG or TIFF in Photoshop looks fine though.  Anyone else having this issue, or know how to fix it?
Update:  If I set the "Develop Settings" in Bridge CS5 to "Camera Raw Defaults" for the JPGs/TIFFs that are displaying improperly, the colors and tones go back to normal, but if I "Clear Settings" everything turns to crap again.

PLEASE  help save my sanity and my reputation!  --I have spent the last five days exhausting every possible solution to this debilitating issue. I have spent countless hours perusing the web for a solution, spent 4 hours yesterday with Adobe customer support and yet, there is no solution to be found. My issue is that the color (in every file format NEF, JPEG, PSD) completely changes color and desaturates in every one of the adobe products: Photoshop CS5, Camera RAW 6.2, Lightroom 3.2. -
Everything was working fine, and then out of no where my productivity has come to a crashing halt. This is the steps I have taken to this point:
    -Uninstalling/re-installing all of the software
-Purging anything that can be purged.
    -Changing color profiles
    -Resetting defaults
    -Resetting preferences
-Installing updated drivers for monitor, video cards
-rollling back drivers for monitor, video cards
    -monitor recalibration
**and finally, today...I set the monitor up on another computer, OS windows xp, and to my complete surprise, the issue persists even on another pc with completely different hardware.
-I am at my wits end with this. I have clients ringing my phone off the hook. This is crazy!
-I have sent out for another monitor as a last ditch effort to see if something is wrong with the monitor.
PLEASE, if anyone has a solution please let me know. Apparently, the folks at Adobe are just as perplexed by these issues as we are, as I have found numerous posts on forums throughout the Internet with this same issue---and yet none of the post every found a solution.

  • Games compatible with ipod nano (gen 4)?

Where are the games in the iTunes store that are compatible with ipod nano (gen 4 ...the tall skinny one without the camera)? Or have they been replaced/ deleted? 'Cause I tried finding them, and they're nowhere to be found; I know they used to have a bunch of 'em- I still have the old Monopoly version that works with my iPod nano 4th gen. But even that seems to have disappeared from the store. Does anyone know if it is still possible to find games compatible with older iPods, or has Appple tried to make the older models obsolete by no longer offering apps for them?
Any help at all is greatly appreciated, thank you.

i have tried looking for them as well they take the games off to make room for new modles. that is the only down side of having a nano that is why is want the ipod touch. and do not go in websites you will mess up your computer i have the same ipod and computer as you trust me don't bother looking you are just wasting your time.

  • Lightroom 2 & 3 Beta color, contrast WAY off on display 2

    Lightroom 3 Beta 2  /  Windows 7  64bit  /  Dual calibrated displays
Display 1 connections are HDMI out to digital in, display 2 is digital out to digital in.
    PROBLEM
In both the Lightroom 3 Beta 2, and Lightroom 2 v2.6 632038, color, contrast and so on are WAY off on my number 2 monitor. If I drag a Photoshop CS4 window from the left display to the right display I see no difference, looks fine. This is also true with Picasa 3, and iMatch Digital Image Management software and preview images in Picasa photo viewer. The issue seems to be just with Lightroom.
I don't see any settings for adjustment of the Lightroom right hand screen in either version - Help appreciated, IM

If you want to, you could zero out all the settings and then save this as a preset and then automatically that preset to all imported images. Not really sure why you would want to do this though. All your images look pretty flat. The default settings do a fair job of approximating what you see on the back of you camera when you made the shot and give you a good place to start. I tried zeroing things out for a while, and then found out I was bringing every image pretty much back to the defaults, and so stopped doing that.

  • Quality issues with "Stray Cat Blues" off Beggars Banquet

Since JUNE , I've been trying to get the iTunes store to fix a problem with "Stray Cat Blues" off Beggars Banquet / Rolling Stones. There's a warbling glitch on this song at around 2:20. I've downloaded it every two weeks since then and although the response from support claims that they take issues of quality "very seriously," the only solution I've been offered is to download the same crap version every two weeks. I am very doubtful this will ever be resolved. Does anyone else have the iTunes version of this song and do you hear the same problem? Does anyone know a better route to get the file fixed?
    Michael

    sorry for any confusion.
+i ordered a 750GB WD drive just for regular back up, to move all my drives from IDE to SATA and have one huge organize back up drive.+
The boot drive i was gonna get, i decided to hold off on, (the Raptor), until i square away these issues im currently experiencing.
As of now im running Tiger 10.4.10 on my OEM Drive from Apple, its a 500GB Seagate.
Im partial to tiger as its provided enough stability for my Audio & Graphics design setup, im reluctant to goto Leopard and ill see once i figure out the situation with the ATI Card.
All my sata ports seem fine, i only have TWO DRIVES in my MacPro Drive Bay 1= OSX and Drive Bay 2 = XP PRo. I tried a few drives in each point and all show up and formatted fine with the exception of the DOA i received a week or so ago.
-- SO basically i just want to slap the new blank drive into the case, connect it and go from there; so a GUID partition then a Clone is the way to do it?
The new firewire case unfortunately is only USB 2.0 & FW400.
+here are the pieces of hardware im expecting tomorrow:+
    Firewire/USB Case:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817198004
    Harddrive:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136131&Tpk=WD7500AAKS
then sometime this week the ATI Card to be replaced at the applestore as applecare over the phone recommend that they do it and run a diagnostics (Okay? i guess).
I even asked the Apple Care and Genius if it could be a bad connector or something but they insisted the PSU would be making a grinding sound if so.
but im not sure how that is because most of the people dont seem to trouble shoot MacPros.
    thanks for the info Hatter!!
i appreciate it, dont mean to make the simple more complex than it should i just rather be better safe than sorry and do something that doesnt end up properly working and screw something up.
I just dont want to end up Machine>Man(me)
    lol
