Distiller 5.0 Question

I am running XP Home. I get a Document Failed to Print message in the system tray when I try to print to PDF. Any ideas?

You are using Distiller Server for Windows?

  • Adobe Distiller 9.0 Question

    I am using Adobe Acrobat 9.0 and somehow have deleted Distiller from my computer. When trying to save an edited PDF, I get a message "Cannot save file.  Bad File Handle".
    It appears this is directly related to the absence of Distiller. What shall I do to resolve my problem?  Thank you.

    Not a DIstiller Server problem. I assume you aren't on a server (Distiller 9 isn't for server use). Please try in https://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/creating__editing_%26_exporting_pdfs

  • Distiller 8.0 / Word 2007: Loss of Summation and Integral Signs in Equations

    Software: MS Word 2007 and Acrobat 8.0 on Windows Vista. Issue: I have a huge word file with numerous complex equations produced by field codes (not the Word Equation Editor, which is too cumbersome for this task). Many of them feature integral and summation signs. When distilling the file, none of the integral and summation signs which are part of these equations show up. One relatively simple example: {EQ f(r) = \I\Su(h=-¥,¥, ah cos(2p hr) + bh sin(2p hr))}. The code \I\Su(,,) is supposed to produce a summation sign, and it shows up nicely in Word and when I print it with just about any printer, but distiller eats the S/Sigma (or the integral/ò) signs. It does convert any Sigma entered as plain Symbol Greek text, but not when produced by field codes.
    According to http://www.math.clemson.edu/~bmoss/math_on_web/math2C.htm, this issue isn't new but has been around in older versions of Distiller/Word.
    Question: is there a fix for this? (or if it has been addressed before in any forum and I missed it despite my searching for a long time, please indicate where I can find infos about this).
    Thanks in advance (had it misfiled(?) in the forum Distiller Server Windows...)
    GR

    I now found a fix for the problem. The problem is that Distiller does not convert any "Symbol" font characters beyond code no. 220, which is where the summation and the integral sign are located. It is advisable to use other math fonts instead, like, e.g., the "Unicode Symbols" font (free dowload from http://users.teilar.gr/~g1951d/download.html), and to NOT use Word's equation editor function \i to create integrals or sums, as it relies on above Symbol font. Instead, use a nested overwrite function: \o(\o(∑, h=-¥),¥).

  • Distiller 9 not properly installed and other questions

    I'm beginning to think I may have gotten a bad installation disc.
    I'm Running CS3 on a MacBook Pro, with OSX 10.5. When I got the installation disc for Acrobat 9, I followed the directions for removing Acro 8 and installed Acro 9. I came across a need to print a pdf file from MSWord, part of the Office 2004 package. Word was still trying to use the Acro 8 pdf maker. I informed Word that Acro 8 was no longer available, and went to tell it to look for Acro 9. Word then informed me that Acro 9 Distiller was not properly installed. Has anyone else experienced this? It's either an Acro 9 issue or a MS issue. I'd be curious to know which, before I get totally frustrated and remove Acro 9 in favor of Acro 8.
    Has anyone else come across this message? (Wording not exact) You are about to start Acrobat 9 for the first time, do you want to continue?" Before you start replying to this one, I saw it when I launched Acro 9 for the first time, as everyone else. I saw it again the next day, and the day after, and several times since then. It doesn't show every time. It seems to happen more often when I launch Acrobat by launching a file created by a previous version of Acrobat and the file launches Acro 9. Seems like it happened with a Acro 9 created file as well. When I launch Acro9 as an application, and not as a result of double clicking a file to launch the application, I don't get the message.
    Minor question: Did the "Getting Started Window" get left out of the Mac version?
    thanks
    pj

    Hi Mike,
    I'm going through the process of trying all the ways pdf files are supposed to be created. I was going to use the PDF Maker button. Not working, I'm not one to give up, I will sometimes threaten the computer with a rocket launcher. Most of the time, the computer sees things my way and cooperates, this time is different.
    I went to file > print from work and selected Acrobat 9 as the printer, then I was directed to locate Distiller. So thinking "no big deal," I went to locate Distiller 9 so that I could print pdf files using Acrobat's virtual printer, and got slammed, Distiller 9 not installed properly.
    http://www.creativehwy.net/ScreenErrors/Acro9Errors.html
    If you'll check the link I've posted, you can see, the Distiller is grayed out, I cannot select it in order to use Acrobat 9 as a printer from Word. I can do a file > print from Word and in the lower left, select a pdf option, create pdf or create postscript file with any of the other printers selected. While most of the time, I'll get a good conversion on the pdf file, as a prepress technician, it leaves my mind to wonder if it's going to work every time. Some of these printers that I have drivers for have hard set margins, so there is a concern that some data might get clipped when generating the pdf file this way.
    Oh My! Was just looking at the screen shot, and it might open a can of worms or it might not, I wonder if Acrobat Distiller should be renamed to Adobe Acrobat Distiller...

  • Adobe Distiller licensing question

    Hi All,
    This is probably common question, but I need to determine the current licensing model for Adobe Distiller server. I realize that this product is simply a piece of paper that allows me to build server applications that can generate PDF files on the server using the Distiller API. As I recall, to adhere to the license you could either buy the Adobe Distiller Server license OR you could be in compliance if you simply had Acrobat Standard on each client workstation that caused the server application to generate a PDF on the server. Is that correct? Thanks - Jeff

    http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/
    Section 2.3 of the Acrobat EULA covers server use. The Distiller Server EULA is under the "Server Products" section.

  • Help! Distiller 9 API File Naming Question

    Not well versed in options for distiller first off.
    I would like to create a module that when a user is saving a pdf file :
    1). user is prompted to scan the file name from a barcode
    2). a suffix is added to the barcode scan, "-" + either including the users %username% + date/timestamp or from a serial increment file
    basically <barcodescan + "- " + suffix>.pdf for filenaming convention
    is this possible?
    Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

    Trying to automate pdf file creation?  using distiller joboption with vbs..or am I going down the wrong route/
    I was thinking along the lines of::  But... not sure how to incorporate that with the distiller for savng a file.  What we are doing is scanning in documents to create a pdf.  We want the file naming to be :  user scans with a scangun a order# from a barcode and then the a suffix to make it unique to the system is added to the file name.  the pdf file that was just created is then saved with that file name
    Sub GetFileName()
    Dim GetWorkOrder As String
    Dim SaveFile As String
    dtmThisDay = Day(Date)
    dtmThisMonth = Month(Date)
    dtmThisYear = Year(Date)
    dtmThisTime =(Time)
    strSuffixName = "-" & dtmThisYear & dtmThisMonth & dtmThisDay & dtmThisTime
    GetWorkOrder = InputBox("Scan Work Order")
    SaveFile = GetWorkOrder & StrSuffixName
    End Sub

  • Question about Acrobat 8 Distiller

    I am using a third party program and printing to the System Printer (Adobe PDF).
    When printing to the Adobe Printer the computer gets held up and the error message states that the Acrobat Distiller has encountered problems.
    Is there a fix or has this issue been approached before? I have always used this system and since installing Acrobat 8, I have encountered this problem.
    Any suggestions will help.
    Thanks,

  • Question about Acrobat Distiller 6.0 ...

    Is Acrobat Distiller 6.0 needed to run Adobe Reader XI free version upgrade or can I remove it ?

    No, it is not needed. It is however both very useful and was (in its day) fairly expensive, so be wary of removing it.

  • Question on PDF Distiller or Creator for Development

    I am looking at creating a program and would like to know a couple of things about the PDF Distiller or Creator API.  First do you have to have Acrobat Pro installed on the server to use the APIs.  I am a little new to the newer versions of Acrobat, but I did have experience with Acrobat 4.01 where I believe that I did need the Pro version to use most of the APIs.  Is there a way to get the Distiller Library alone without the Pro Edition?

    ejuozaitis wrote:

    You need Acrobat installed in order to use the APIs in the Acrobat SDK - however, section 2.3 of the Acrobat EULA forbids it from being used on a server, so you cannot use Acrobat SDK applications on a server.

    You can buy Distiller Server.  It is a seperate product from Acrobat (which includes Distiller, not Distiller Server) and designed to run on a server as part of an automated workflow.

  • Question about Distiller version 8 standard

    Hi there,
                       I really hope someone here can help me out here. I have a user on the network trying to convert MS Project 2003 file to PDF. If he prints to adobe printer half way down the page the text disappears. He can convert to PDF using a free product and looks perfect. He is running Adobe Distiller version 8.
    I have searched but have not been able to find anything useful so hoped that someone here would have an answer or any suggestions
    Thanks
    Frank

    Thanks for reply, i am not sure that
    it is an MS Project issue but am ready to be proved wrong.
    If i copy and past the half of the project plan that is not printed and print to adobe printer it will be converted properly so it does not appear to be a font issue. Also happens on all other computers that are configured identically.

  • How can I programatically control the names of files output from Labview into .pdf format (ie with Adobe PDF Writer or Distiller)?

    I would like to save some data forms for a standard test controlled with labview in a pdf format. Due to the large number of forms and test reports, I would like to have Labview automatically assign the .pdf file name based on test number already contained in the labview code. How can I do this.
    Note: This question is very similar to:
    "Labview and Adobe Acrobat output" posted by John Balone on 1/26/2000. The reponses offered good suggestions but it is not clear to me how to implement them.

    This information is essential if you plan to use the Acrobat Distiller printer driver and any of the examples listed here:

  • Should I open sent PDF's through PS (flatten then save as .eps) & then save as a PDF thru distiller

    Hi, I'm coming from a print background with newspapers where it was necessary to do the above with sent PDF's for print so that the fonts wouldn't bomb at print. I'm now working with a high gloss magazine and am wondering if it is necessary to do the same now. I have been doing it as routine with sent PDF's for print, once I ge the email I open in PS, make sure they are CMYK then flatten the image and save as .eps to open in Distiller and save as a PDF again. Again this was to make sure no fonts would bomb at print as per I was tought. (Used Quark when working with newspaper and thankfully am using InDesign for magazine). Is there any negative to doing this still? Even if the sent PDF's are fine (all True type font)? Could doing this, flatten and resave cause the iamges or fonts on the PDF's to lose quality at print? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't but I could be wrong with this higher quality print.
    Appreciate any advice here, as I'm slightly worried it may cause some loss of quality at print (fuzzy border around text - light but there). Thanks.
    Programs used are PS CS5, InDesign 5, Adobe Distiller 9. Final proofs are PDF's from InDesign to printer.

    The “workflow” you cite is absolutely not recommended for any purpose whatsoever. The only thing that can be said for it is that it produces consistently low quality results with extra steps and overhead. Forget about transparency and color management! The newspapers in question must have been either (1) working with antiquated, buggy RIP software from the previous millennia or (2) had personnel with mindsets and education from the previous millennia!
    Adobe strongly recommends use of direct PDF export from InDesign using the PDF/X-4 preset – never create PDF by distillation of PostScript!
    Although we strongly encourage use of OpenType fonts for their typographical features and cross-platform compatibility, in terms of output quality and reliability, use of Type 1 versus TrueType versus OpenType is irrelevant.

  • Language:  Filename with characters for arabic turns question mark

    Language: Filename with characters for arabic turns question mark
    OS: Solaris 9
    Machine: Sun-Fire 25K
    There is an adobe distiller software that is configured and a java apps. There are postscript files that are being converted to .pdf format using the adobe distiller. Using the GUI (using the Exceed; for remote access), when they use GUI to convert the postscripts to pdf files, the long filenames have the corresponding characters for arabic reading purpose. This is OK.
    When we use the windows RUN to telnet the server and convert the postscripts to pdf, it gives a question marks characters in the filenames ( this; is a sample; filename; ?? ??? ??; right.pdf )
    We are not sure now if we have to add a package of arabic or a patch to resolve this problem.

    Solution found, I'll post the work around to those who might encounter the same problem.
    Somewhere in the layers of technology (webwork or weblogic I'd guess), the servlet response is encoded into UTF-8 regardless. The encoding in the database was ISO-8859-1. Sending ISO encoded bytes by UTF-8 caused the conflicting character codes (anything above 127) to show up as undefined.
    The fix is to decode the input byte array into ISO-8859 string, then encode that string into UTF-8, which can be send by Weblogic.
    isoConvert = new String(buf, "ISO-8859-1");
    out.write(isoConvert.getBytes("UTF-8"), 0, isoConvert.getBytes("UTF-8").length);

  • Adobe CS 5.5 Design Standard deployment - Distiller loses Serial Key

    Hello,
    I used  Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition 2.0 to create .MSI file for "Adobe CS 5.5 Design Standard 1.2.0000" and "Adobe Acrobat X Pro 10.0.0" on x64 bit machine.
    I used MSI created for Design Standart and Adobe Acrobat.
    While creating package I inserted Serial Key.
    Then installing Acrobat, then Design Standart. Everything looks ok.
    Launch Photoshop or any another CS5.5 product - everything is OK - Serial key is applyed and works.
    So, where problem comes?
    Second scenario:
    Install Acrobat, then Design Standart.
    Launch "Adobe Acrobat Distiller X" - it loads, after it has finished loading everything I close it.
    Then launch for example Photoshop and it asks for serial.
    Why? Do Distiller refresh/drop or somehow else looses Serial Key?
    So, I have question - Do I have forgot to include something or is this deployment toolkit bug?
    Thanks in advance!
    Please, let me know if this is my fault and I can do something with this bug I experienced.
    If there is needed more information - let me know.
    Have a nice day!

    Hi,
    Thanks for reply!
    I were trying to import property like ISX_SERIALNUMBER with Design Standart serial key, but it just caused error on installation and after reading Your reply - I'm happy that it is ok to leave it like that.
    At least now I will know what to answer to customer if that issue arrise.
    Have a nice evening
