Distiller 8.0 Error Message

Hello All,
I've got a Pages file (63.9 MB) and need to reduce the file size so I can send the file through email.  However when I try to create a PDF through Distiller an error message occurs saying this:
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: PK    ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to make this work?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe this is a bit late but might help others.
The ideal of using distiller to distil a document is just another way of creating a PDF file but using the publisher's own information in a file known as 'joboptions' which you get from the publisher. Joboptions contains all the vital information the publisher needs to ensure consistency in their publication. After loading joboptions into distiller, create the advertisement or whatever you are making with indesign and instead of printing it to a local printer, print it to a postscript file. You can get a dummy postscript printer from Adobe. The file you create has an extension of .ps. By double clicking that file in explorer, it will automatically open distiller. Choose the joboption file your publisher gave you and provided your fonts are all genuine, (not pirated) distiller will create a PDF file of the same name that will have all our publishers critical information already in it.
For someone not familiar with dot gain and the plethora of other publication printing information used to produce a magazine or newspaper so every page looks the same, this is the only way to avoid having your files rejected by the publisher. I hope this helps.

    Good day,
You can initiate a Repair installation from Control Panel > Programs by clicking on the Acrobat 9 installation, choosing 'Change' then following the prompts for a repair install.
I missed the part where you mentioned the error was occurring on launch.  Sorry about that.

  • Error message printing to Distiller (5.0) from MS Publisher 2003

I suddenly can't print from Publisher to Distiller. Using XP.
Error message reads: %%[ Error: invalidfileaccess; offending command: image ]%%
Files previously printing OK suddenly are not. Have had occasional success experimenting with printing individual pages but can't find a pattern. Tried re-saving images in smaller resolution but no help. Tried saving entire pages as smaller image but limited success and text looks fuzzy.
    Any ideas?

I thought I had already answered but can't see it posted. This is my first time doing this. I will try again.
I have a PC with Windows XP and both programs installed on my C drive. I work on a server with the files. I'm not very technical I'm afraid. Is this enough information? Thank you.

  • Error Message using Acrobat Distiller

Each time I try to take my Word document I converted to a PDF and changed to Postscript and open it in the Acrobat Distiller I get this error message:
    PDF/X Compliance Report
    1.  Bounding Boxes
[Violation] Both TrimBoxes and ArtBoxes were found on the following pages:
Violations: The total found in this section was 125.
    2.  Summary
Warnings: The total found in this document was 0.
Violations: The total found in this document was 125.
This document does not pass PDF/X-1a:2001 compliance checks.
    </PDFX>
%%[ Warning: Did not pass PDF/X compliance tests. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Can someone tell me what I need to change in Acrobat to pass the PDF/X compilance test???
    Please.....

This problem drove me crazy, but I finally (sort of) found the answer. To make a long story short, I eventually realized I had already gotten my file to be in the PDF/X-1a:2001 format even thought I was still getting the TrimBox error. So, my first advice is to go to File > Properties > Custom, and see if PDF/X-1a:2001 is already listed. If so, stop there because you are already good.
If not, you need to run Preflight. Go to  View > Tools > Print Production. The menu will show up on the right-hand side. Choose Preflight. Go down to "Convert to PDF/X Compliance" and click it. Then click one of the "Convert PDF/X 1a" options (I don't know what the different options mean, so I just chose the first one). Then click the "Analyze and Fix" button at the bottom. It will prompt you to save this analyzed/fixed document as a different name. If you get any errors, google them and try to fix them. (I was able to figure a few small ones out. My second file didn't have any errors.) Run it again until it is fine.
Here is the key. Go to File > Properties > Custom, and see if PDF/X-1a:2001 is listed. If so, you are good. The mistake I made was at this point to try again to print it to a PDF/X-1a:2001 and I was still getting that Trim Box Art Box error and driving myself crazy until I finally realized that I already had a PDF/X-1a:2001 file even though I was still getting that stupid error.

  • Error Message when Optimizing PDF

I am working on a project in PowerPoint using text, shapes, and clipart.  I save that as a PDF and then open it in Adobe and then prepare to save it as an optimized PDF.  When saving, I get an error message "An error was encountered while processing images."  As a result, the file does not optimize nor save.  I can't figure out what is causing this to occur.  I have completely recreated this document from scratch, and the error message is still occurring.  What can I do to prevent this?

You can't directly open a Pages  (or Word) document and Excel and, its equivelent  Macintosh program  in Acrobat. That's true. In OSX.5.8 and lower and 9.2 and lower you can go to print menu and choose AdobePDF and print a PDF. Or simply use the Mac's PDF button in Print menu. Or Most programs will allow you to save as Post script by going through the print menu click on PDF button and choose create Postscript from PDF (I know it sounds stupid but that what Apple has it listed as. ) Then Drop the PS File on Distiller. or open with distiller.

  • Error message: There was an error processing a page. There was a problem reading this document (110)

I opened a pdf document in Adobe Reader X. When I attempted to scroll through the pages the following error message appeared, “There was an error processing a page. There was a problem reading the document (110). After an Internet search to try to find the reason for the error and a solution, I came across a site that suggested it was an issue regarding the fonts of the document. I then reopened the document and went into the document’s font properties (FILE – PROPERTIES – FONTS tab). There I noticed that the “Gathering font information” stopped at 2% which, of course, I took to mean that Adobe Reader X was having a difficult time in loading the font’s information. Another site suggested opening the document in the pdf reader, Foxit. So I did, and the document loaded properly with no error messages. I was still curious as to why the document did not load entirely in Adobe Reader X and if the same problem would occur using a different reader. I then downloaded the pdf reader, Nitro Reader 2. I opened the same document and initially received the following message, “The requested page number is invalid and does not exist in this document.” I closed the message and proceeded to scroll through the document. As I scrolled, the following message appeared, “This file was damaged (corrupted) and has been repaired.” I thought, “Wonderful!” I then chose <FILE – SAVE AS – PDF DOCUMENT> and saved the “repaired” document under a new name. When I opened the “repaired” document with Adobe Reader X, behold, the document opened entirely with no error message. I was curious, so I went into the document’s font properties and noticed, this time around, that the “Gathering font information” loaded to 100%. Nitro Reader 2 detected the error and fixed it. Now I’m left to wonder…why wasn’t Adobe Reader X able to do the same? I hope this post helps others who are experiencing the same issue.

When I encountered an error "there was a problem reading this document 110" in Acrobat Pro 11 on 28.7 MB CS6 file, it indeed was very frustrating.
I solved my problem, but since I don't know which step benefitted me, I've to enumerate all the steps I took:
    Read below:
1.1. I could copy the file anywhere on the drive, but couldn't 'save as' from Acrobat Pro.
1.2. No document security was applied of any sort on the file.
1.3. Still in the first tab of the document properties, all details under advance section were empty. No 'PDF Version' 'location' 'file size' etc were populated. Nothing.
1.4. I couldn't change and save anything in any of property dialogue. I could comment on the text, but as soon as I tried to save, it gave an error (some sort of 'File reading' error).
1.5. When I tried to extract a page (I tried many), it gave 'reading error'.
1.6. I didn't try 'splitting error'. Since I was 100% sure, it'll give me same reading error.
1.7. I opened the file in Firefox and tried saving it as pdf from there. But no error, but no save either.
1.8. I ran 'Remove Hidden Information' from protection panel without any errors.
1.9. I tried 'sanitize document' from the same tab, but didn't succeed.
1.10. Then (here I think the problem was resolved), from Document Processing panel, I did some commands. 1st, 'Export all images', successfully. Then 'Remove all links', it found 0.
1.11. Then in 'print production' panel, I clicked/tried to open acrobat distiller. The same opened, did some processing. But I don't know if it did something in solving the problem or not.
1.12. Although I think my problem was resolved till now, but the last step I did was 'Saved As' the file (from the file menu) as a .ps file. Though I've not yet reopened/used that ps file (to convert it into a pdf file again). But around here I wanted to close the file and it asked me whether I wanted to save the file, I said yes. And it saved the file correctly. And I checked that in properties dialogue, the missing information was populated too.
1.13. Sorry for so lengthy instructions, but I had no choice.

  • Receiving error message when trying to distill

Hi, I'd really appreciate any insight that could be offered regarding an error message I'm receiving when trying to distill an EPS for press. I'm running CS4/Mac/10.6.8, creating file in ai, converting to eps in ps, and distilling for press. I've done this without issue before, but am receiving the following with consistency:
    Adobe PDF Settings: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/Press Quality.joboptions
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: pdfmark; ErrorInfo: PUT nextImage ]%%
    Stack:
    [{nextImage} -dict-]
    -dict-
    [{nextImage} -dict-]
    -mark-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    Distill Time: 1 seconds (00:00:01)
    **** End of Job ****
    Thank you.

The reason I put this in the Distiller forum is because that's the application I'm referring to, not the simple task of exporting to PDF, which I can do from any application on my computer, including, of course, CS4. That's not the issue. When preparing large files for press houses, I often distill to a manageable size without losing quality. This is common practice. The error message I posted occurred in Distiller when distilling for press, something I do often with large files.
Thanks for your effort, though. It's appreciated.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.0 distiller ICC profile error asks for reinstall

I have Windows XP professional, SP3.
My Systems Administrator recently upgraded my Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 to 9.1.0 and since then I keep getting an error that says: Distiller cannot find its standard ICC profiles. Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat to correct this problem.
    This error happens when:
    1. I print to Adobe from a web page (IE 7.0.5730.11 or Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.20)
    2. I try to print to any printer from certain websites, such as the usps.com, where I print all our postage labels from.
    3. Occasionally when I start up the PC.
Sometimes I get the error but it still pdfs the page. Usually, though, it hangs and then Acrobat and the web browser close.
I seem to be able to pdf MS Office 2007 items (Word, Excel) and my Filemaker Pro Advanced 10 records. I guess it's when I'm "printing" to Adobe as opposed to "saving as pdf" that I have this problem.
Acrobat 8 worked fine. My Sys Admin has reinstalled the upgrade twice (after trying a repair which didn't work) to no avail. He can't find any documentation about this error at Adobe, so he's going to uninstall it and switch me back to Adobe 8.
I do all of the pdf'ing of our deliverable documents at my company and I would like to have the latest edition of Acrobat. If anyone knows of anything I can do, please let me know.
    Thanks!
    Stephie

Adobe Tech support was most helpful on this.  First download the updated
    Distiller ICC profile files at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4075&fileID= 3790
Unzip the file and copy only the *.icc files (without regard to the subfolders that they are in - in other words, take the files out of each of the subfolders) to the followng folder in Windows 7:
    c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color
These new files will probably overwrite some old ones.
This solved the problem for me.
This is actually the best solution though I found that instead of copying all the .icc files to the windows\sys...  folder, all you need to do is copy the 3 Video files from the RGB folder (VideoHD.icc, VideoNTSC.icc, and VideoPAL.icc).  Once you add these three files to  c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color  you will be good to go.
It seems that this was an error on the part of Adobe in that there is no reason to include Video files for printing.  Nevertheless, the distiller will look for these and return the ICC profile error message if those files are not present.

  • Acrobat Pro 8: When I print to pdf I get windows print error message

This just started happening when I installed my acrobat professional 8.0 on my new computer (with Windows XP Pro). Everything works fine, but when I print a document to .pdf, I get that windows printer pop-up message that says that it was unable to print. As a consequence, I get a bunch of allegedly unprinted documents in my printer queue that I have to keep deleting. This is more an annoyance than anything else, but can anyone tell me how to stop this from happening??
    THanks.

OK, I'm still not sure I'm getting this, but I printed to file, and then opened the prn file in Acrobat Distiller. The actual pdf file was not in the folder, but I could open it with distiller.

  • Non-hex character in a hex string error message

    Hi everyone,
I encountered n error message in Illustrator "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Non-hex character in a hex string." when trying to open a particular file.
File was originally created on a Windows 7 PC, tried opening file on Mac OS 10.7.5, same Illustrator version 18. Also tried opening in PDF, Distiller, but didn't help.
Did tried to change Illustrator Preferences in both Windows and Mac, following the steps in the TecNote:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50031.html
When trying to open the file from the File > Open menu, with the keys held down, it did not open a blank file window, neither did it created a duplicate copy in the Finder where the file is located.
The file in question had about 15 artboards,  a few embedded images, approx 2.6MB size.
Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi Monika,
The file was .ai file, as mentioned earlier, was created in Illustrator ver 18.
Not emailed, stored in the folder, on the Windows PC, not a server. Last saved few days ago, tried to reopen the file from the same computer, but could no longer opened.
No, Illustrator did not crash, just the error message "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Non-hex character in a hex string."

This is a registry error. You will have to take ownership of the respective registry keys and set their permissions manually. Here's a short explanation. Same procedures may apply to the program files.
