Distiller and Cooltype.dll error

Recently updated Acrobat Pro, and now can't convert and files into PDF.
Either running the printer option from MS Office or opening Acrobat and creating a "new" PDF. Even CS2 now won't save as a PDF for me.
I get an error from Distiller when generating a PDF and it "needs to close".
"Acrobat Distiller has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
The embedded error has info about cooltype.dll contained.
"AppName: acrodist.exe AppVer: 8.1.2.86 ModName: cooltype.dll
ModVer: 5.3.74.1 Offset: 0001488b"
I constantly "send error reports" back to Adobe but waiting for a resolution.
Seems like it is an error with distiller or a corrupt cooltype.dll 'cause it affects all forms of generation on a PDF.
Does anyone else have this problem, or have a solution?
Cheers
Garry
Win XP Pro
2Gb Ram
500GB HDD
Acrobat Pro 8.1.2
CS2 9.0.2

Just to add some more light on the error.
When I print from inside a MS Office program (Word, Excel etc) everything goes as normal: select save as and loctation, animation logo appears in task bar, bubble pops up to say the file has been created, then Distiller error pops up.
The only file that had been created was an empty .tmp file with no info.
Seems like Acrobat is working fine, but it is the Distiller that is having problems. And you can't reinstall Distiller module on its own.
It has now started playing up with the launching of CS2, cooltype.ddl could not be initiallied, and CS2 fails to launch.
I am at my wits end here, it's not as if its some form of shareware that I am using that no one will support!.
Cheers
Garry

  • CoolType.dll error when starting Flash CS3, please help!

    Hello,
    I recently downloaded Flash CS3 Trial from Adobe, a huge
    download, after download i tried to install, a really huge
    installation!
    After the installation is complete finally, i started the
    Flash CS3 and it gives me this error:
    Faulting application flash.exe, version 9.0.0.494, faulting
    module cooltype.dll, version 5.4.15.1, fault address 0x000a2a98.
    Then i replaced the file from an older version of
    CoolType(i.e. 5.1.39.1) by replacing it from other Adobe
    installations, then it gives a new error message:
    Faulting application flash.exe, version 9.0.0.494, faulting
    module adobepdfl.dll, version 8.1.0.546, fault address 0x001b60cd.
    I am using Windows XP
    Can anybody help me with this?
    I don't what to do, if there is anything wrong with my fonts,
    should i remove all fonts and check?
    Or do i have to install any Microsoft Windows Patch for this?
    Or any other way?
    I really need to explore CS3!
    Please advice,
    Thanks,
    Aamir

    Not sure if you found a solution to this but I was having
    this similar problem and just found a post on the
    google
    forums that said it was a font that was installed. It doesn't
    look like it's cooltype so it must be a font that's
    installed.

  • Explorer keeps crashing with ntdll.dll, verifier.dll, msvcrt.dll and combase.dll errors

    Hi all,
    I just bought my laptop a few weeks ago. Initially explorer only crashed (with the ntdll.dll error) when I had a lot of folders open, or when I was transferring stuff. But now I cannot open any folders at all without it crashing with the verifier.dll error.
    This doesn't happen in safe mode.

  • Unsatisfied Link Error and creating DLL error

    I am having some problems getting my DLL to work properly. I am following the basic Hello World example and seem to be getting a problem.
    I am running on Windows XP with, j2sdk1.4.2_04, and using the gcc that comes with Dev-C++ (Bloodshed). The following is the steps I went through.
    1. Create a basic Java program.
    * Sample program for testing JNI Interfaces
    public class HelloWorld
    //Define the Native interface
    public native void displayHelloWorld( String prompt );
    * The following is the main method. It will perform the
    * JNI call to displayHelloWorld
    * @param args
    public static void main(String[] args)
    System.out.println("Start of program");
    System.loadLibrary("HelloWorld");
    System.out.println("Loaded Library");
    HelloWorld test = new HelloWorld();
    System.out.println("Created Class");
    test.displayHelloWorld("JNI Hello World Program");
    System.out.println("Called Function");
    2. I compile the above program with out any problems
    3. I run the command javah HelloWorld and it generates the following header file
    /* DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - it is machine generated */
    #include <jni.h>
    /* Header for class HelloWorld */
    #ifndef IncludedHelloWorld
    #define IncludedHelloWorld
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    extern "C" {
    #endif
    * Class: HelloWorld
    * Method: displayHelloWorld
    * Signature: (Ljava/lang/String;)V
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_HelloWorld_displayHelloWorld
    (JNIEnv *, jobject, jstring);
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    #endif
    #endif
    4. Create the C source file
    #include <jni.h>
    #include "HelloWorld.h"
    #include <stdio.h>
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL
    Java_HelloWorld_displayHelloWorld(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj, jstring pString)
    printf("Hello world! %s\n", pString);
    return;
    5. I compile the program using the following command
    gcc -IC:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\include -IC:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\include\win32 -c HelloWorld.c
    The gcc compiler generates the HelloWorld.o without errors
    6. I then try to create the dll using the following command:
    dllwrap -IC:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\include -IC:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\include\win32 --dllname HelloWorld.dll HelloWorld.o
    The program spits out the following warning
    Warning: no export definition file provided
    dllwrap will create one, but may not be what you want
    It creates the dll succussfully
    7. I run the Java program
    java HelloWorld and I get the following output
    Start of program
    Loaded Library
    Created Class
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: displayHelloWorld
    at HelloWorld.displayHelloWorld(Native Method)
    at HelloWorld.main( HelloWorld.java:25)
    So I try to generate the definition file for the dll (I saw from previous posting)
    8. I run the following command
    dlltool -z HelloWorld.def HelloWorld.o
    It generates the following file Helloworld.def
    ; dlltool -z HelloWorld.def HelloWorld.o
    EXPORTS
    Java_HelloWorld_displayHelloWorld@12 @ 1 ;
    9. I modifiy the HelloWorld.def (as described in other postings)
    ; dlltool -z HelloWorld.def HelloWorld.o
    EXPORTS
    Java_HelloWorld_displayHelloWorld @ 1 ;
    10. I then try to recreate the dll using the def again using the command
    C:\F_Drive\Apps\C_Samples\hello>dllwrap -IC:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\include -IC:\j2sdk1.4
    .2_04\include\win32 dllname HelloWorld.dll def HelloWorld.def HelloWorld.o
    It gives me the following error when trying to create the dll.
    HelloWorld.exp(.edata+0x38):fake: undefined reference to `Java_HelloWorld_displa
    yHelloWorld'
    dllwrap: gcc exited with status 1
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

    Try the --kill-at flag on the compile line, and don't bother with the .def file, you shouldn't need it.
    See http://bleaklow.com/blog/archive/000162.html for a detailed dissertation on how I got this to work for me.

  • *Adobe CS4 Distiller and Flash CS4 errors*

    Hello....beforehand I want to thank you for your help regarding the problems I can't seem to fix. I am using Windows Vista and I have run scandisk/disk defrag/computer cleanup with various programs so all of that is taken care of for a possible "solution". I looked on the Adobe help and resource center and couldn't find anything regarding the following matters:
    Every time I manually open up Distiller 9.0 after it loads and goes to the Distiller screen, it automatically closes! It was working fine and I don't really use Distiller often so I am not sure when it started but does anyone know what I can do other than trying to reinstall it? Hopefully I can avoid that process. Here is a link to what I see right before it closes: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/283f00c905d6d45e2ef4768d66dbee724g.jpg
    I have been using Flash CS4 pretty regularly until about a week ago and i never had any real problems but now every time I open up Flash CS4 it gives me an error message and closes. It gives me the "Adobe Flash CS4 has stopped working" and that "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem", here is a screenshot: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/72821d3e935a89db809257ab9d1fef9b4g.jpg
    My Adobe LiveCycle Designer opens up and it was working before but when I try to open it by converting a file to a form or even creating a new form from a template, then it freezes and closes giving me a similar error message! Here is a screenshot: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/bc59d422150595157c212a5b181313244g.jpg
    Also, sometimes during the middle of the program some of my programs freeze and close with a similar error message of "Windows is checking for a solution" and that message often comes when I even close the program. This has been mainly happening on my Adobe Contribute when I use it to edit my site, here is a screenshot: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/63f2156f2a88d045a4ce5ea072735f384g.jpg
    Here is a screenshot of sometimes this type of error after I close a program like IE: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/af69ad89ebc69f120ce1d75a6c102f6f4g.jpg
    I know my post was a little posty but I appreciate any help I can get regarding this. Thanks again so much and I appreciate it once again!

    Just wondered if you have tried using System/Restore to go back to a week ago when everything was working properly. System/Restore doesn't change your document files, just the program and system files.

  • Encore cs4 and preminfo.dll error msg

    Hi,
    when I launch encore cs4, during the loading appear an error message about preminfo.dll: "the application has failed to start because preminfo.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".
    when I choose ok on error advice, the encore start without problems.
    anybody know how to fix the problem?
    best regards and merry chritmas for all

    When there are missing, or corrupted .dll's and other elements, a Repair Installation usually does correct these issues. That is basically what the error message is saying.
    To do a Repair Installation, on inserts the installer DVD, and then, once it has initialized, you can choose the application(s) from the list in the suite. The installer will survey and if it finds an installation, of say Encore, will pop up another screen, allowing one to choose Uninstall (do not choose this one, at least not yet), and Repair Install. This is the one to choose, and then the installer will again survey the system, concentrating on that app and any common files. It will replace any missing ones, or corrupted ones.
    I've only had to do it once, but for most of the CS2 Production Studio, with Encore. Seems that I had installed PrElements well after the Production Studio. PE broke almost everything in the suite, and a Repair Install took care of every program in the suite.
    As for that link, it's probably from the old forum. All of those links are now dead with the new forum. Even Google, etc., will yield the old links, which are all dead. Someday, as the old fora are being reconstructed, maybe the Google 'bots will update with the new links. Has not happened yet, but we can only be patient and wait.
    Stanley Jones has done a lot of work trying to find the new links to many of the old articles. I do not know how far along in that project, he is, but will say that Neil Wilkes and Jeff Bellune have done a good job of getting our FAQ's back up. Hear! Hear!
    Good luck,

    DELL   Windows XP Pro

    This error is caused by upgrading from QT6 to QT7 after installing 3ivx 4.5.1.
    The best way to fix it is to download the latest 3ivx 5.0 installer from http://www.3ivx.com
    When you run the installer it will fix the error.
    After that you can uninstall 3ivx if you want.

    I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect", which is Windows lingo for "missing package dependencies".  All the computers at my company with 2010 loaded seem to do OK.  When I do a Dependencies Walk I get missing Visual C debug dll's missing plus IEshims and wer which both have a whole tree of dependencies missing on my machine.  The Windows install is the same "Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 3" on my PC and the working PC's. So I'm thinking I have to uninstall 2011 and go back to 2010.  Is this correct?  Those VC debug dll's were installed on the machines with 2010 in them but were not installed in mine.
    I've heard the advice to recompile the dll with debug turned off but I don't have access to the source code.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.  This at least tells me that going back to LV2010 is not likely to solve the problem.  The missing dll's are:
    MFC90D.dll
    MSVCR90D.dll
    IESHMS.dll
    WER.dll
    And, once again, IESHMS and WER have other dependencies.  So perhaps i need to install the Visual C++ development environment.
    IESHIMS.dll is an Internet Explorer DLL that gets usually delay loaded by shdocvw.dll. As delay load it can not cause DLL load errors but only runtime errors. Maybe your DLL has it as direct dependency but that is unlikely since it does not have a documented interface.
    WER.dll is Windows error reporting for Vista/Win7.
    MFC90D.dll is the Microsoft Foundation classes and MSVCR90D.dll is the MS C runtime library, both as debug variant.
    So all the DLLs you mention are actually MS DLLs! You haven't identified the DLL that you try to access in LabVIEW that causes these error messages. IESHIMS and WER are usually delay loaded by any component that needs it and should not likely be used by non MS code.
    What is the DLL you try to load into LabVIEW and by whom? Get the provider of that DLL to provide you a non Debug build of the DLL. Installing Visual C on all the machines just to make the DLL load is not a solution, besides that it is likely not legal since I doubt you have that many licenses.

  • NI 5660 Driver DLL Errors when using Teststand 2010 and LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2010

    This problem seems similar to the post "Resource not found error in executable on development machine." but I didn't want to repost under that thread because I only happened upon it by chance and none of my searches brought me there... so I made a more descriptive Subject.
    I am working on a system that uses a PXI Chassis with a NI 5600 Downconverter and a NI 5620 high speed digitizer, among other PXI Cards.
    I inherited working code written in LabVIEW 2010, running with the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2010.  The code was using a custom executive and my task was to rewrite the test using TestStand 2010.  I reused the majority of the old code.  The old code used NI-5660 to control the 5600 and 5620.  When I run my sequence using the LV Development System and TestStand, it runs without any issues.  When I change the adapter over to LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2010, all of my NI5660 VIs become broken due to DLL issues.  It warns that the nipxi5600u.dll was not initialized correctly.  Many of the errors are associated with the NI Tuner and NI Scope. After this LabVIEW will crash randomly, and the seqeunce will not work in TestStand even when back with the LV Development Adapter.  The only way to recover after this is to restart the computer - TestStand automatically reverts back to the development system, the VIs are no longer broken and the sequence works again.
    I have all of my VIs associated with a project. After reading a little bit about DLLs and TestStand, I found all of the DLLs in the dependencies section of my project and added them to my TestStand workspace.  I also used Dependency Walker to track down the problems with the nipxi5600u.dll, the 2 DLL files that it said were not found already existed in the same folder as the original DLL (C:\Windows\System32).  I have also performed a Mass Compile to make sure everything was running in LV 2010.  If I skip the steps involving the 5660, my entire sequence runs fine.
    The previous code was running with the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine without any issues.  Is there just a step I am missing?  Has anyone seen anything like this before?  I can send screenshots of errors to provide more detail if necessary.

    I have tried some more things and still can't get it to work.  I have added the VIs mentioned in the Notes On Creating Modulation Executables KB both to the TestStand workspace and the LabVIEW project holding all of my VIs.  This did not change the results.
    When I try to run my sequence, The first error I get is shown in Error 1445.bmp.  This happens when I try to use the NI 5660 initialize.vi.  If I click ignore, the next error I see is shown in Error -20551.bmp.  When I try to open the VI to look at it, I get the 2 DLL errors shown in Error loading nipxi5600u.bmp and Error loading nidaq32.bmp.  When I close TestStand, I get the error LabVIEW Fatal Error.bmp.

  • Hello, I have windows 7, Im getting msvcr80.dll error 7(windows error 126) when I tried to update my itunes. Now it won't open. Does anyone have a remedy? And when I try to uninstall it says that the file cant be found.

    Hello< I have windows 7, I tried to install the new itunes version, last night 1/30/14, Im getting msvcr80.dll error 7 (windows error  126). Does anyone have a remedy for this? When I try to uninstall the ituned program it says it can't be found and to make sure I have permission to uninstall.

    Same problem today. Took five times to reinstall without any error messages. I did the following:
    1) Went to the C:\program files (x86)\iTunes and C:\program files\iTunes folders and moved every file ending in .dll to the desktop (even if two files in same location had the same name, just replaced)
    2) Restarted computer and still got error message
    3) Uninstalled all apple programs possible in the following order......itunes, apples software update, apple mobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support.....all performed using the microsoft control panel
    4) put all the .dll files on the desktop in the trash and emptied (this is a step apple support did not recomment in their posted solutions but for a final try I wanted to delete everything apple).
    5) Restarted computer.
    6) Re-installed itunes from apple website
    No error messages during re-install and was able to open shortcut in one try.

  • Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server c0000005 and c0000006 errors with KERNELBASE.dll error in RDP sessions.

    We installed a new Server 2008 R2 server this spring. It is configured as a Terminal Server with 16 Wyse t10 thin clients connecting with RDP. We are a small resort so we run Springer Miller Host and SpaSoft. Ever since moving from PCs to the thin clients
    and TS we have been seeing SpaSoft randomly crash with KERNELBASE.dll errors and also a lot of c0000005 and c0000006 errors. Springer Miller support says its a Microsoft Networking issue so no help there. The company we worked with to install this has no clue
    so I hope to reach out to this community to solve this. I can also open support case with Microsoft Support but I am not sure if they will be of any help. Here are some examples of the errors:

    There are no network specific errors in any of the logs. I am thinking that SpaSoft needs to be run as an administrator but I am not sure how to do that in this environment. We have disabled DEP for all but essential Windows processes. All of the firewall
    and AV has been completely disabled, and still getting these errors. Is there a way to run these applications as admin without the user actually being an admin? Should I go ahead and open a Microsoft support case? Thanks

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
