Distiller API reference to the PDF printer

Hello,
I was using the Acrobat Distiller API reference to the Adobe PDF printer. The API reference allowed me to eliminate the popup for the pdf name by defining a key that contained the name of the PDF file. This interface worked fine on a Windows XP Pro machine.
So I changed over to Windows 7 (64 bit)  and Adobe acrobat (Version 10.1.5) and the distiller API reference not longer
works, I cannot get a PDF file to be created. So does anyone have any idea why the distiller API reference is not longer working on a WIndows 7 (64 bit) machine?

Hello,
Thank you for all of the feedback.  It appears to me that I have some choices to make, they are
Have one version of the code for Windows XP Pro.
Have one version of the code for Windows 7 (64 bit)
Update the code to detect the OS and do the "OS specific keys"
Change the output file to something other than a PDF
I am just disappointed that the Adobe Distiller API reference manual did not define/document the differences between the various versions of Windows. I assumed (we know what assume stands for) that I did not have to change my code for a "simple operation" as printing.  I can obviously understand the difference between Windows and other operating systems.
So hopefully the next time that Adobe cranks out a Distiller API reference manual they will define the registry keys for each version of all of the operating systems they support. I did it again...I made another assumption...that will come back to haunt me at some time in the future.
Thanks again to everyone who has provided a response to my discussion

  • How can I install the pdf printer when Win 7 doesn't offer the choice?

    Hi,
I have Acrobat 8.0 Pro, and in XP I used to have an Adobe pdf printer in my printer's dropdown list, so that it was possible to convert anything in any application into a pdf document.
Now I had to change the system, and I try to install a pdf printer. The Acrobat help simply says "in devices and printers chose the pdf printer". Yes, would be easyif it were at choice. But it isn't.
I assume there must be a driver missing. Does anybody know anything about the what and where?
    Thanks for your help.
    Saskia

AA8 works on VISTA and several folks have reported it working on 32-bit Win7 (I have only heard of 2 getting it to work on the 64-bit system). Adobe does not support AA8 beyond VISTA (actually they won't give much support on AA8 for anything anymore). If you were successful in the Win7 installation and Acrobat and Distiller both open, then there is a chance you will be able to get things taken care of. As I understand it, you can open Acrobat, but the updates in the help menu do not respond. In that case go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and download the updates for manual installation. If you start with the most current update, it will tell you on the download page the previous update that is required. That way you can go back through the updates and install the needed ones in order. Reboot after the last update only.

  • I installed CS6 on Mac Pro (10.9 software version). I don't see the Adobe PDF printer in the printer/fax section.  I can not figure how to create the PDF Printer.

I can not figure how to create a Adobe PDF Printer. Normally when you install the package ( CS6 Standard for Mac Pro) the installer creates the PDF printer automatically. In the System Preferences under the Printer/Fax I don't see the PDF printer. How do you create the PDF printer.
    Thanks,
    Melanie

did you install acrobat x and does it work as expected?

  • Printing from the Word to the pdf printer,

Printing from the Word to the pdf printer,
I wanted to print a Word document using the pdf printer but sounds this printer doesn’t provide a dialogue box to choose where to save the printed pdf file. It prints the document but couldn’t know where does the acrobat stick it!
    What might be the problem?
Is there some option that controls this behaviour?
    Thank you for the help,

If you select the properties (or preferences) when right clicking on the Adobe PDF printer, there is a Settings tab (if not select the Advanced button on the general tab) and select the settings tab. There are selections there for requestion the file name and other items related to PDF creation. Sorry if my selections are not clear, I am on the wrong computer to check the correct selections for you, so give it a shot and try various selections until you find the settings.

  • How do I install the PDF printer in Acrobat Standard 10.1.12??

Updated to Acrobat Standard 10.1.12 a week ago and noticed that no PDF printer was installed.  How do I install the PDF printer??

    Sara,
Yes I’m running Windows 7 (64-bit).  I went to the web site and followed the Add Printer instructions.  I tried all of the Adobe PDF Converters and I got either one or the other of the two messages in the attached file.  I appreciate your help and hope you’ve got other ideas.  By the way, I’ve already completely un-installed Acrobat Standard X and reinstalled.  No joy.  When I got this PC I had to install this version of Acrobat on the machine and I had no problems like this.  I have also applied several updates to my original version of Acrobat Standard X and I never had this issue.  This issue just came about when I applied the 10.1.12 update.  But the un-install and re-install has not fixed the PDF printer issue.
So, hope you’ve got some other magic.  It does seem like some needed Adobe software is missing or there is something else on my machine that is impacting the proper installation of the Adobe software pieces (or not allowing some pieces to install).
    Thanks for your help,
    Nick

  • I am missing PDF Printer (PDFMaker), have reinstalled Adobe Professional and even did a repair making sure I added the PDFMaker options - it still will not add the PDF Printer (PDFMaker) option - which is necessar to use with our document comparison softw

Please help me add back the PDF Printer - I am missing the PDF Printer (PDFMaker) and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Professional 10, I have tried repairing it and made sure the options for PDFMaker are selected, to no avail.  I need the PDF Printer to use with our document comparison product, using the add printer options and adding the Adobe converters doesn't fix this issue either, it just adds an option to convert documents to PDF to a local folder which doesn't fix the issue.
I have a contract for Adobe Support but cannot reach a technician by 1-800 number, does anyone (1) have a solution to this problem? and (2) a telephone number for which I can call for assistance?

  • Why does Adobe keep releasing updates for Acrobat that make the PDF print option diasappear?

I am really disappointed that after installing an update to  Acrobat 9 my PDF printer has disappeared from my printer list.
This is the second time this has happened. The last time this happened Adobe were still supporting Acrobat 9 and they ended up having to remote in to my machine to fix it.
Now I have to pay if i want that level of support!!! It begs the question why they release these destructive updates. Is it to force people to upgrade to X or purchase support.
Can anybody give me some instructions on how to manually install the PDF printer?
    I am running windows 7

Launch the Devices and printers setup utility through the Control Panel.
    2Select the \"Add a Printer\" option.
3Click the \"Next\" button and select the \"Local Printer Attached to This Computer\" option.
4Deselect (uncheck the box) the  \"Automatically Detect and Install My Plug and Play Printer\" option and  click the \"Next\" button.
5Select \"My Documents\\*.pdf (Adobe PDF)\" in the port selection drop-down menu and click the \"Next\" button.
6Select the \"Have Disk\" option and click the \"Browse\" button to open a dialog box.
7Select the \"AdobePDF.inf\" file  located in the AdobePDF folder in your Program Files directory under  \"Adobe,\" \"Acrobat 9.0,\" \"Acrobat,\" \"Xtras.\"
8Select the first item (top item) on the list of Adobe PDF Converter options and click the \"Next\" button.
9Type \"Adobe PDF\" in the field for a printer name and click \"Next.\"

  • Installing the PDF Printer only ?

    Hello,
We bought a bunch of Acrobat license for most of our users and we want to have some of the users using the Full product, while most of users should only have the right to print to PDF.
I have been trying to install the PDF Printer only using the "Custom install" option from SETUP.EXE, but I can't install only the printer. Acrobat Standard will always get installed.
Is there anyway I can install only the Printer and not the full Acrobat product?
    Thanks,
    Christophe

Is installing a separate PDF software printer the only way?
Depends on what application you want to do this for. For some applications there are third-party action downloads available that can allow you to, for example, export InDesign files to a specified folder in PDF.

  • I had the free version and the advertisement said I could upgrade to the PDF-Print for $29.95 but when I went to order they charged me $39.95. Did I just get ripped off for $10.00?

I just purchased PDF-Print but did not pay the $29.95 as per the advertisement. I had to pay $39.95.  Did I just get ripped off for $10?

Wrong forum (and software company). Here you have an Adobe Acrobat forum. So Acrobat is the application and Adobe is the company.

  • Where can the log file be found after printing to the PDF printer?

Cannot locate the log file after printing to the Adobe PDF printer.  The box was unchecked for delete log file after successful print.  Running Adobe Acrobat X Standard (v10.0.0) on a windows 2008 R2 server.

There is usually no log file when the conversion succeeds. Only in certain cases are their warning or information messages, usually of little interest.

  • How do i install the pdf printer

How do i install the pdf printer

And on what system? Using what version of Acrobat? Sounds like the typical "I have an Acrobat version from the stone age and want to install it on Win7/ Win8" and if that's the case, you should stop wasting time and just byuy a new license. Anything before Acro 9 is not compatible with these OSs.

I have a Phaser 6280DN and Bullzip (PDF virtual printer). They work perfectly with firefox 4 and with other application on my notebook running Windows Vista. But I am not able to print with firefox 5. All prints are white or empty. My notebook is a Dell Vostro 1710 with 3GB RAM and 500GB HD.

Your ISP can only determine that their equipment is responding to ping requests. They can determine nothing about your equipment or if theirs is communicating with it.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable that comes from their equipment and connect it directly to a computer instead of the Extreme. If you can load web pages, it means your Internet connection is working. If not, it's not.
Is your ISP supplying cable Internet? Sometimes it is necessary to reset your ISP's connection by disconnecting their coaxial cable that connects to their modem. Literally unscrew it and leave it detached for a minute or so, then screw it back in again and power up the modem. They call this a "full reset". I don't know how it differs from simply powering down the modem, but I have confirmed that on rare occasions doing this will reset a recalcitrant connection.
... however the internet bars are present on the desktop and also indicated I was connected to the internet.
The Wi-Fi icon "bars" show that a connection to a wireless network has been established. It conveys no information about an Internet connection that lies beyond your local network. Option-click that menu and select "Open Wireless Diagnostics..." Authenticate with your Admin name and password and click the Continue button. Some useful diagnostic information and suggestions will result.

  • Outlook 2013 crashes as soon as I select the PDF print dropdown option

Outlook 2013 crashes as soon as I select the dropdown option to print to PDF.  It worked fine up until a week ago.  I reinstalled my PDF reader, didn't help. I downloaded latest office updates, didn't help.

    Hi,
What if you choose Microsoft XPS Document Writer or any other printers from that dropdown?
A lot of problems with Office are caused by third party (non-Microsoft) applications. So please also check behavior in
safe mode to see if it's an add-in issue:
Press Win + R and type "Outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, then press
    Enter.
Please have a try and feel free to post back with any findings.

It's recommended to download and install

  • Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.
