Distinctive Ring for Fax

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to get distinctive ring for fax on my HP All-in-One with BT Home package or do I need to upgrade to a business package?  Thanks in advance!  Annie

I think you should try again - looks like you
mistyped the file path /usr/bin/fax.
I have gone back to Terminal and am in a file called usr/bin/fax. However, there's nothing there--no lines of programming that is. At the bottom of the page are headers--Get Help, Exit, Read File, etc.--but clicking on them does nothing, and typing ^G to Get Help for instance does nothing. Obviously I need to do somethong more to get to those lines of programming--specifically the INIT sequence--forgive my non-programer vocabulary--mentioned in the hint above.
Thanks for your help--any more suggestions?

  • Program Tiger/iMac G5 to recognize distinctive ring for fax

I have been advised by my phone company that I need to program my computer to recognize the distinctive ring for the telephone number dedicated to the computer. Of course, there is no such selection in "receiving faxes." I went to the site:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031111132356616&query=distinctive +ring
and tried their suggestion--though it's for Jaguar. With some trepidation--given the warnings, I got as far as terminal, sudo pico usr/bin/fax, but when I hit enter--no such file, or some such reply. There must be a way to program this gold standard to answer a distinctive ring--which does not seem to be a unique problem.
    Any ideas???

  • Distinctive ring setting for incoming faxes keeps resetting itself

Hi, I recently installed an Officejet 4500 and in the fax setup wizard I chose "no" for having a distinctive ring for faxes.  I have tried but I am unable to receive incoming faxes and I have noticed that when I run the setup wizard again all of my previous information has been remembered by the choice for the ring setting has been changed to "distinctive ring". Any advice is appreciated.

Run a FAX TEST from your printer. -Press SETUP-press the right arrow until you get to "TOOLS" touch OK-press right until "RUN FAX TEST"  Your printer should give you a read out of 6 or 7 items and marks them as PASS or FAIL. What fails?  Also turn "ERROR CORRECTION" to "OFF" and "FAX SPEED" to "SLOW"from the FAX SETTINGS MENU. Then Fax 1-888-473-2963. (1-888-HP FAXME) This is a FAX TEST line where you can test your OUTGOING and INCOMING FAXES. First you send a fax then a few minutes later you recieve a fax back if every thing is working properly.

I have an external fax modem for my iMac intel, but I need software, I guess, that recognizes a distinctive ring.  Any suggestions?

  • Fax modem w/distinctive ring recommendation

I need a USB fax modem recommendation for use with an Intel iMac. I understand that I can use Apple's external USB modem but I don't believe it has distinctive ring recognition capabilities which I need.
Does anyone know of a USB fax modem I could use with an Intel iMac with distinctive ring recognition?
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, only the apple modem has drivers for OS X.

  • Distinctive Ring

Unable to receive faxes...how can i get a distinctive ring service since it conflicts with my Brother Multi Function Fax Machine

Based on your question, I'm not certain I am understanding if you already have distinctive ring or are thinking about getting it. I'll try to cover both scenarios.
If you have distinctive ring and your fax is not picking up, the most common thing we see is the settings are not set for the proper ring pattern on the machine. i.e. the settings are set for triple ring instead of double, etc.
If you are inquiring on whether distinctive ring will work for your machine, as long as it can recognize different ring patterns it should be fine.
The usual misunderstanding we see is in the functionality of distinctive ring is thinking it operates like a second phone line. With distinctive ring it uses the same base phone line and assigns a second number and a special ring. If the line is being talked on, no fax can come in, if a fax is being received/sent , nobody can talk on the phone line.

  • Service Provider Distinctive Ring Call Routing

I have the situation where I want to replace an old key switch with a UC500. The only outstanding issue I have is an inbound ring feature enabled by the provider. The way it works is the customer has 2 phone lines that are members of a service provider hunt group. When they dial the pilot the first line rings and if it is busy the second line rings, no big deal. The issue is that the published fax number is the second line in the hunt group. So if the call comes in directly to the fax number the service provider gives it a distinctive ring, this is currently how the customer knows not to answer the phone and let the fax machine get it. With a UC500 implementation I would like to make this all transparent to the user. So here is my question, is there a way to route the call to the fax machine based off the fact that it rings in with this funny tone from the provider?

Call routing is based on dial plan, not tones. Tones in the speechpath will be sent to the destination, but are not used to determine where the destination should be. Fax pass-through/relay is triggered by the fax tones (CNG) when they start to sync up over the speechpath. Inband ringtones will not trigger these features; they will simply be passed through like plain voice conversation.

  • Distinctive ring vs. new line vs. adding VOIP service like Vonage or Ooma

I'm currently a FIOS/phone (double play) customer.   I need an additional phone number and am considering my options (getting a new line put in, signing up for a new VOIP service like VOnage, going cheap & just getting distinctive ring), trying to understand everything and weigh the costs/functionality/gotchas.
"Distinctive Ring" is a new option I just learned about, and it seems the easiest, and definitely the cheapest (around $5 extra a month).   However it also seems the most limited and there are a few things I don't understand for 100%.
If anyone can answer any of these questions I'd appreciate it:
    - Can you setup SEPERATE voicemail greetings for the existing landline vs. the new "distinctive" ring number?  Or would everyone calling hear the same greeting?
    - If only same outgoing message can be used, then I assume that each number uses the same voicemailbox, but can you setup different mailboxes for each line in a different way, like having your outgoing message say "Press 1 to leave message for Herman or press 2 to leave message for Granpa", thus create at least quasi-seperate voicemailboxes based on who the person was trying to call?  And if so, how?
    - As I understand it not all phones support "distinctive ring" - so how can I findout which of my existing phones do support this (other than signing up for the service then calling myself and seeing how the phones behave)?
    - Is there any way for my callerID boxes to show which # it is that is being called instead of just who is calling?
    - And is this true, that calling out I would only be placing calls from my original line, that for example on callerid of who I am calling, even if pressing callback on my phone and they called my new second #, they would see my original #, not the new one?
    Thanks for any hints.

Hi, the only tip I can give you is as far as testing if your phone is compatible with distinctive ring you could try one of two things, neither of which are free unfortunately.
    1) Call a number that is busy and then use Repeat Dial (*66) to let you know when the number is free. You will get a special ringback when the number is no longer busy.
    2) Try dialing *61 on your Verizon landline phone. In many states you will reach a feature called either Priority Call or Selective Distinctive Alert. If you add numbers to the list, when those numbers call you there will be different kinds of special rings on your phone.
Again, there will be charges on your Verizon bill to do either of these. If you use *61, be sure to clear your list and turn off the feature when you are done so you will not incur any further charges.

  • SPA3102 - PSTN Distinctive Ring Detection

    Hi,
I have SPA3102 connected to Asterisk. I have a single PSTN line with two numbers, each with a distinctive ring pattern. Is SPA3102 capable to detect the ring pattern of an inbound PSTN call and provide this info to the SIP gateway (for example, in the Alert-Info SIP header).
    Thanks!

This may not be possible as the this device I think cannot recognize the Ring pattern being to the FXO port for the two numbers.
Some features are disabled or does not work when connected to the SPA3102 compared to when connected to a regular telephone.

  • Distinctive Ring Tones on SPA302D with SPA232D

    Hi,
is it possible to set distinctive ring tones on the DECT handset via ALERT-INFO?
It seems like the description in the admin guide is only valid for PSTN.
    Axel

No, as far as I know.
By the way, wrong forum. SPA232D is not SPA IP Phone but SPA ATA gateway.

  • Shut off all sounds except one distinctive ring?

Can I shut off all sounds and leave on just one distinctive ring?
When I go to sleep I'd like to leave my phone near me.  I don't want to get any sounds from it, except the ring from the nursing home where my mother lives.  Everything else can wait until morning.  Can I do this on an Iphone 6 or 5?
Upon awakening, I'll reset to get all the sounds.

I want to be able with one of the phones to make calls, but not to hear a ringtone when somebody calls (I want all incoming calls to be heard only in the other phone).
On one of my operator's forum I've received help. On adapter, in Line section (the one where I don't wanna hear ringtone when my numeber is called) I set DND Settings:Yes (which stands for Do Not Disturb). This makes my phone completely silent and I can make calls (the line must be registered, in the other case Make Calls Without Registration must be On).
I'm still curious what's going on with Distinctive Ring Patterns since my phone has only melodies as ringtones, though (is this function useful in this case?)
    Anyway, thanks for your intentions.

  • Connecting the mac to the Phone for fax/phone

    Hi,
I'd like to use my mac (Imac and Macmini)  for sending/receiving faxes and perhaps for CPI (computer phone integration).
I have obtained a USRobotics usb modem. The question I have is do I need to connect that modem to the same connection (using a splitter) to where my telephone handset is ?
If I connect this usb modem from the macmini to the phone line (not where the handset is), can I then use the Imac to connect to the phone for fax/cpi ?
It is all the same phone line and on the same wifi.
I hope I have explained myself clearly

Yes, you can connect to any phone jack or splitter, but it is using the same line as your phone so only one can work at a time, unless you have two lines coming into the house.
Set up the modem as you would a printer.
Add printer and select the modem when you see it.
Set the answer to maybe 6 rings otherwise it will answer all calls and you will think that you have no friends left.
They will tell you: Why do you you beep at me whenever I call.

  • One number for faxing and for voice

    Hi,
I would like to know if it possible to have one number for faxing and for voice.
What I have read up is that Cisco can detect the fax tones. What I would like to do is route all inbound faxes to a viop dial-peer and all voice to another e1 port.
I am just looking for some more info if this can be done.
    Thanks you?

Yes this is possible with either cisco fax relay or t.38 fax relay.
