Distored and incorrect thumbnails

The thumbnail pictures that are being displayed since the beginning of October, 2006 are distored and of the wrong picture.
IOW's they are either too wide or tall and skinny.
When I scroll they eventually turn to the right thumbnail,
HOWEVER when I edit the wrong distored thumnail of other pictures stay in the thumbnail view box on top.
Its only effected on pictures that I transfered since about
October 7th 2006.
I purchased a new Camera switching from Canon to Nikon .
What I do now that I did not do before is that the new Nikon transfers into its own program and then I either put in into PE4 to fix and then iPhoto or import it into iPhoto directly.
I recall about two months ago it kept asking to rebuild
the thumbnails library, one time I did it.
Were there any updates around that time, I cannot recall.
That may have effected this process.
I really like the Nikon Program, i tried to import the pictures into PE4 but that did not work it still when into
the Picture perfect program of Nikon.
Any body have any thoughts or suggestions,
If smeone could tell me how to have the Nikon camera transfer directly into iPhoto like my Canon did please let me know as I tried thru PE4 and did not work, not sure if that was even the right venue.

have you tried rebuilding the iPhoto database?
Hold down the Option and Apple keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
If that doesn't work, force iPhoto to rebuild its' cache. Go to Home/Library/Caches and trash the iPhoto folder therein. Restart your machine and launch iPhoto. It will take a little longer to start first time round as it rebuilds the cache.

I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem. Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos? Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

Raw and TIFF Thumbnails Not Showing in Bridge CS4

Hi,
I just bought Photoshop CS4 and installed. I got an installation error and had to remove and reinstall CS4 (and ran the Mac Cleanup Utility in between). Then, CS4 installed successfully.
Now, when I fire up Bridge CS4, I can preview JPG files, but not TIFF or RAW (*.NEF format from my D200) files.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix I can apply? I have installed known updates for CS4 and have purged the cache.
I have tried searching adobe and the online communities for this issue, but haven't been able to locate it. The problem also applies to *.PSD documents. I have also tried Tools>Cache>Purge Cach for Folder xxx and this doesn't fix things.

OK, I'm back already.
The bug was easily and instantly reproduced just as I wrote earlier:
With one of the lines under the thumbnails (thumbnail view in
Bridge) set to date created, and the other three to Date Modified,
Pixel Dimensions and Color Profile, respectively. I then invoked the
Global Purge cache command in Bridge CS4. Poof! The date created line
under each and every thumbnail is now blank. The space for the line is there, but it's totally empty,
blank. >:(
Invoking
Tools > Cache > Build and Export Cache > for all folders and subfolders restores the data in the blanked lines wiped out by the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences.
Thank goodness I had disconnected the FW drives.
I then went again and repeated the procedure one more time. The
Date Created line was again immediately left blank under all
thumbnails.
As far as I'm concerned,
the Global Purge cache command in Bridge Preferences in CS4 is broken
, just as it was in CS3 at least until someone tells me how to stop this from happening, reliably and consistently.

I just reconnected my FireWire drive and, to my utter disgust and
horror, the Date Created was wiped out under who knows how many
thousands of images. >:( This despite having unmounted, disconnected
and turned off the FW drive, and despite having my Bridge Preferences
> Cache > Options > set to A

Bridge has finally rebuilt the cache for every darned file on my FW
drive, restoring through the Tools > Cache > Build and Export Cache > for all folders and subfolders command the blank

How to? Please...I cut and paste items, it is removed from iphoto for a few seconds then they appear again.

The photos that are appearing on the mini - are they photos taken with an iPhone or iPad? If so, open System Preferences on both computers and select the iCloud tab. On the mini, click the Photos checkmark off and on the MBP click the Photos checkmark on (if it isn't already), then start iPhoto and select Preferences. Select the Photo Stream tab and make sure Photo Stream is on.

Export RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto

Hi all,
My Canon EOS 5D makes JPEG+RAW at the same time, which is great. Normally I do not need the RAW files, I work with JPEG in iPhoto 6 (OS X 10.4.11). I only want to keep the RAW-files as "negative". With Automator I want to export the RAW-files automatically to a separate folder which I will then backup to a external HD.
Automator should do the following:
1. Copy all RAW-files (extension is .CR2) to a folder on my HD.
2. Delete al RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto
I have done some tests with Automator, but I did not succeed. Can some body help me?

Events and project thumbnails missing after moving to new computer

I just helped a friend to move to a new Mac. I have copied all her personal data to her new computer, so iMovie Events and Projects are present in her new Movie folder. However, after opening iMovie '08, all events and project thumbnails are missing. How could this be? Is there perhaps some library file that keeps track of all this that I need to copy as well? Is there a way to re-link iMovie with the events folder?

Try this:
First, make sure you've quit out of iMovie. Then go to your Movies Folder > iMovie Events > and then into the folder of the even that's giving you trouble. Drag the folder "iMovie Thumbnails" to your trash. Then open the folder "iMovie Cache" and drag the file "Cache.plist" to the trash. Restart iMovie. It should rebuild the thumbnails, and by regenerating the .plist file, it should have the data it needs to reed the new thumbnails into iMovie.
It worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you too.

Not opening projects and grey thumbnail

Hi, I've done about 5 different movies using iMovie. The projects are done (I didn't export them yet) but for some reason I cannot open them anymore. And the thumbnail is gray, not showing the movie's frame.

I deleted iMovie from my Mac and installed it again using the original installation CD. It solved my problem.

Trial iWork and view thumbnails

The help menu says use the View menu and Show Thumbnails. I'm trying to use the trial version of Pages and there is NO view thumbnails in any menu.

There are previous discussions on this same topic. In those it is discussed that the fix you recommended does not work. There seems to be no practical way to fix this "problem". Restoring to factory default and manual rebuilding your iPad seems to be the only solution.

SNS Show and Share Thumbnails

Show and Share Thumbnails do not display properly.
I created a new DNS entry name (utube.domain.com) in our DNS pointing to the same IP address of the Show and Share server.
Using the new DNS name in the URL, web page display broken thumbnails (everything else works fine including clicking on thumbnail).

If I use the original servername in the URL, thumbnails display properly.

We want to use a new name so users can easily remember the SNS site, instead of the actual server name (which follows the enterprise standard naming convention, which we all know, often are long and not easy to remember).
Someone said to me the only way to do this is to rename the SNS server's hostname to the new name we want to use.

Just Locally for now. We are in the early stages of testing. I resolved it by following what tac said - by changing the hostname of the server and then clicking on verify button again beside the Publish Locally check box.

Font size in the folder window and feet thumbnails Adobe Bridge

I've been trying to figure out how to increase font size in the Folder window and foot Brige thumbnails, but can not find it anywhere.
I do not mean the font size in the window metadata. In that window I know how.
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it very much, as I have vision problems and the size of the letter have to much strain to read.

As is the case with the brightness of the background area around the picture window in ACR (trim panels column and area around the image window), whose brightness dazzles enough to incorrectly assess the brightness of dark parts image and can not be changed (as can be done, however, in Bridge and Ps, even in the background of the image window's own ACR 8.4), this two questions should be posed to developers group Creative Cloud, as suggestions for future improvements that could be implemented .... But I have no idea how to do that .....

Exporting 30 minute aperture 3 slideshow and incorrect image sequence

I have just exported a 30 minute slideshow in 1080p from Aperture 3 overnight, a combination of photos and videos taken on my iphone. I added various music tracks and all plays fine in preview. After export the music plays correct but is accompanied by incorrect photos and videos from the sequence, as if the order of images/videos has got shuffled up! I have all the latest updates installed. Has anyone else experienced this and know a workaround?

Oh, baby! This bad boy flies!! Here's what to expect:
I had 40,000 images in Aperture 3 and it was dog slow at everything. I installed 3.1 update today. It took 5 minutes to update the database and then behaved marginally better than before at ASIC library navigation. I was disappointed.
Then I QUIT the app. It took a couple of hours to "update files for sharing" with a counter that went to 110,000 images. So it must have updated every thumbnail and variation of preview. Turned it back on , and BAM. Came up fully in seconds. Paused for 10 seconds ten everything was lickrty split. For the first time ever, I can use the Projects view with all 791 projects and scroll quickly. I even put it in photos modevand whipped thru all 49,000 images!
Haven't done anybprocessing yet, but i'm liking it!!

Faces shows incorrect thumbnails

Having trouble with iPhoto. The Faces part was working properly, but not having these symptoms:
1. When I select Faces, the people shown are not the one showing in the thumbnail in some cases. Opening the picture shows the individual is in the photo, the info tab shows the person is in the photo, but the photo does not show the person.
2. When I select Faces, sometimes the face shown is not the correct face.
It used to be perfect, but now it is not.
I've used all the options within iPhoto under Option & Command start, and have rebuilt it using iPhoto Library Manager.

Glad to see my suggestion worked for you. Over the last week I have been similarly trying to remove more corrupt data from my library of over 25,000 photos. The corruption I see is as described earlier, plus the small square boxes you describe, plus more:
tiny boxes with essentially no area at the lower left corner of the photo
photos with no found face box yet the Info pane lists names of found faces
large square boxes labled with a correct name but in the wrong locations in the photo
found face boxes appear correct but the thumb is from some other part of the photo
found face boxes appear correct but the thumb is rotated 90 degrees
Probably there are others that I do not remember right now.
As might be expected with this level of incorrectly identified faces, prediction of matching faces has been poor. As I have deleted obvious corruption from the database I have also verified correct predictions and marked incorrect predictions. Predictions are now much better.
This corruption remained after merging three libraries using iPhoto Library Manager, then doing all of iPhotos internal rebuilds several times, then rebuilding the library using iPhoto LIbrary Manager. When I finish removing what corruption I can manually I plan to rebuild everythng once again. Even with all this cleaning I am concerned that I will miss some corrupt data, and the corruption will propagate.
I have not heard of using MySQL on Faces or iPhoto. Directly manipulating internal iPhoito structures sounds like asking for trouble, but we already have lots of trouble with no apparent solution. I will investigate. Thanks for the tip. Have you tried it?

Incorrect thumbnails aperture 3.5

A portion of my thumbnails are incorrect (either showing the wrong image or scrambled). I select the group and update the thumbnails via <Photo -> Generate Thumbnails>. This corrects the problem temporarily; however, next time I launch or return they're scambled or incorrect again.

Where is your Aperture library located? Is it on your system drive or an external drive? Are you the only one accessing the library? Are you using any plug-ins?
The first thing I'd try, would be to run the Apertire Library First Aid Tools - Repair permissions and repair database. If the problem persists, back up the Aperture library and rebuild the Aperture library. That may take a while for such a large library.
