Distored sound during video import to iMovie

While importing movie footage from my Sharp viewcam into iMovie the audio is distorted. It doesn't sound distored when I view it on the viewcam only.
I just finished a project last week with the same viewcam and different movie footage and didn't have this problem. The audio was fine.
Has this happened to anyone out there?
iMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Hi Mr Lucy:
Be sure your camera is set to 16-bit, not 12-bit.
Also I quote QuickTimeKirk:
”Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Try changing the settings to 44100Hz (CD Quality) or to 48000Hz (typical of the iMovie formats).
Others call this the GarageBand fix. Opening GB also resets the Audio MIDI Setup.”

  • Docked iPod only outputs sound during video to TV

I have a 5G iPod in an Apple dock, connected to my TV using a Monster audio cable and an S-Video cable. For some reason, it only outputs sound during videos or a photo slide show - not at all for music only playback. I'm baffled! Any idea why? It's a Panasonic plasma, and I've tried three different inputs. None work for music, but video is fine.

The iPhone 4, unlike iPod, doesn't ask you to set for PAL or NTSC.  In fact, in the SETTINGS/Video menu it only asks if you want to "Start Playing From Beginning", "Closed Captioning" and "Home Sharing".  I was surprised it had no settings like the iPod at all.

  • Choppy Sound on video import

I use a Sony HD Handycam to record video. During playback on the camera the sound and video is flawless. But when I import it into iMovie HD the sound is choppy and difficult to understand and the video playback is also choppy, almost like it's playing back at a higher speed than it was recorded.
How do I solve this problem? HELP!

    Hi
    First thoughts:
    • Did You record in LP-mode (90min on a 60min tape) ? Don't
    And if it is so:
Use same Camera + set iMovie pref to NOT import as individual clips
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk less than 10Gb ?
I try to have at least 25Gb free
    • Lot's of audio clips > 50 ?
Mix down audio to one audio .aiff file
    • Other programs running in background
Turn them off + Simple desktop back ground (not animated/changing)
    Turn off energy save
    Turn off screen saver
    Don't use "File Vault"

  • How do I reduce slideshow sound during video playback in iPhoto.

    Hi all.
The quick slideshow in iPhoto 09 is fantastic! The combination of pictures and videos blending into each other works very well.
...with one exception. When showing a video with sound the selected background music for the slideshow still plays - at a reduced volume. This reduced backgroundvolume is often not reduced enough and it interfers and destroys the experience of the video clip. I would like to find an option for reducing the backgroundmusic even further or maybe mute it during the video playback. But as soon as next pictures are shown the backgroundmusic should return again.
A very technical solution eg changing / "hacking" iPhoto files would be fine also.

That can't be done. Send in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you're saving the movie as a QT file for use elsewhere and have access to iMovie HD 6 you can do that very easy. Create the movie without added music, export to Quicktime, import into iMovie HD 6 and add the music tracks as desired.
You will have lots of control over the sound this way.

  • Help getting rid of Audio during video import

    Hi Everyone,
I wonder if someone could advise about a problem? We have a
number of video clips from a client in WMV format and wish to
import into Flash 8. We did this without any problems and created
the flv files using the video import wizard. The client however
wanted us not to include the audio as is was really just background
factory noise. During the video import steps - Encoding, I selected
'Show Advanced Settings' and unticked 'Encode Audio'
Now however the video doesn't import at all and an empty
SWF/flv file is produced. Am I doing something incorrectly or is
there a better way to 'remove' the audio?
    Any advice greatly appreciated
    Many thanks
    Dave

If it's not very bad you should be able to fix it using the Power Line Hum <Analysis Type in the Analysis Tab

  • Sound doesn't import in iMovie videos.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 digital camera that imports perfectly on Quicktime. When I drag the videos to iMovie, the sound doesn't work. I was told that I needed to convert it. It's an MPG and I was wondering if anyone knew of any software that I could use to do so and what to change it to. Thank you.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I am having a major issue with my Cybercam and don't know where to post it. You said that yours was syncing perfectly and I need help with that. When I plug my camera (DSC-W80) into my powerbook, the finder freezes. but if I change the camera settings to use PictBridge, I can get the pictures sometimes with Image Capture, and all the video clips(if i can even open them) are only 1 second long. Does anyone know what I can do?

  • No sound in file import by iMovie 11

  • How to merge audio in a clip during video editing in iMovie?

    How and tnxs for reading.
    Here the question:
I have a video file which has a bad audio R track and a good audio L one. I would like to edit the video, standard operations like cut, merge, etc...
However I would like to take the audio R track out. Since I do not see any available feature for this I exported the audio track to another audio software and did the operation there. After that I imported the audio L track only in my iMovie (v 10) project, aligned to the clip, I deleted the original audio from the clip, and now I have a perfect project with the original clip with a good audio track.
However, since I would like to work now on the project itself, it'd be great to merge the audio (which is now separated) to the clip, in order to maintain the proper audio with the clip during my cut/paste/etc operations. Is there any special feature I can use for this?
If not, I know I can export the project to a new video file and then open a new iMovie project where I can import the new video file and start again from it, but I am wondering if there is an easier way since in my opinion I had to do already to much work for an easy op like this which would have been fixed easily with the old versions of iMovie.
    Tnxs.

    Thanks for your reply!
While your answer is helpful, it's not a desired solution for me because the comp track is one channel of a multi-channel recording (two different mics).  I don't want to drag a new take into the comp track because the comp track is grouped with other comp tracks for editing purposes, and I don't want to disturb the editing I've already done.
It seems like I "should" be able to select a region in the arrange window and "re-link" the file to any other file in the audio bin (thereby replacing the file with the other).  After years of working in graphic layout programs, such as Adobe InDesign, I'm expecting this sort of feature to exist already.  I'm pretty sure I've seen it before... but I've used Cubase, Digital Performer, Studio One and Pro Tools, and I'm not sure where I saw it.
Have I described what I'm looking for clearly?  I'm not sure it's coming across in what I've written.  Can Logic do this?

  • No audio during video portion of iMovie once burned

Please help! My students and I have created and burned numerous iMovie projects in iMovie '04. Burning has never been a problem. However, we've now encountered a problem that we just can't troubleshoot.
We obtained super 8 (?) video footage which we successfully ran through a DV camera to obtain a copy of the footage in digital form on a cassette. All video and audio copied beautifully onto that cassette. Furthermore, it imported just as nicely into iMovie--with all video and audio intact.
Next, we edited our movie (a super bowl pep rally) and added only titles and two songs from iTunes. Here's the problem. While the movie plays perfectly on the computer on which it was created, and the burned dvds of it play perfectly on other DVD player-equipped Macs in our school, the dvds do the following when played on ANY dvd player (such as at home):
    1. All the video and title/transition effects play fine.
    2. The two iTune songs play fine.
    3. However, the audio embedded within the video taped portion is silent.
So while the video clip's audio can be heard on the dvd when it's played on a Mac, it cannot be heard when played on an actual DVD player.
I know for certain there is nothing wrong with the DVD burner because we burned an old iMovie again right after this to see if the burner was working o.k. It's fine. (The test DVD played on the school's DVD player.) Furthermore, I tried three different brands of DVD-Rs with no luck. I even tried the DVDs on my home DVD player with no luck.
The only variable that is different between this project and the numerous other projects we've completed is that additional step at the beginning of taking the super 8 footage, transferring it to DV, and then importing it into iMovie. Could that really be the problem?

    Hi k
Only way I would be able to simulate Your situation (I guess) is if I do
as I use to - NOT using the Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie.
I close iMovie and open iDVD then either drop the movie project icon into
it or import the movie file.
Then the movie file name will end up in a theme window in iDVD.
IF I prior to this change the name of my movie icon - on desktop or in
movie folder. The sounds would be missing - at least from the non iTune
part - on the finished DVD disk.
Sum: Change the name of the movie either when starting a new project in
iMovie OR in the theme window of iDVD.

  • Reducing audio distortion on video imported into iMovie.

Hello, I am trying to clean up the audio on some videos that I imported from a friends cell phone. The video was taken at a concert up close. It seems that the cell phone's speakers were overwhelmed by the
volume at the concert and the audio on the video is quite distorted to say the least.
Is there anyway that the audio can be enhanced/cleaned up using the audio adjustments in the clip portion of iMovie, or I am I just doomed to have great video and hideous audio quality??? I have tried playing around with the audio adjustments on each clip, but I am new to iMovie and what I have been trying has not seemed to work to well.
I would appreciate any advice anyone may have on this matter.
          Thank you!!!

iMovie 11 is well worth the cost. Get it for $14.99 in the new App Store.
In iMovie 11, you need to get a free app called MPEG Streamclip. You need to have it anyway. It is like a Swiss Army Knife for people who make videos. Right-click on the clip in iMovie. Select Reveal in Finder. Drag this clip to MPEG Streamclip. Move the playhead to the frame you want, and click FILE/EXPORT FRAME. Pick Jpeg, TIFF, or PNG and you are done.
In iMovie 08, the above procedure works fine as well. However, there is another way, which I have documented [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2255510]

  • No sound on mpg imported to iMovie 06

    Hello,
I have a 2 minute mpg that I would like to edit then upload to a website. I have imported it to iMovie. The sound is gone. Is there something Im missing,
Or is this a bug in iMovie 06?
Is there any other way to edit this?
    Thanks

iMovie does not work with muxed MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 clips (and that's what you're trying to do)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42996
    You'll need:
MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 (free) and the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • Breaks during video importing

When I try to import video from my Canon ZR40 over a firewire cable, every minute or few the screen the screen goes blue, it says camera playing for a second, and then it continues importing. When I try to re-import, it does this at different places. I have turned the energy saver to "never" and deselected "start a new clip at each scene break".

    Hi Dana
Hard to figure out the reason for Your problem:
    - drop outs from Your Camera
    - Bad FW-cable
    - Your computer is tied up with other programs like
    FileVault, ScreenSavers, EnergySavers <</div>
    I have turned FileVault OFF
    No ScreenSaver
    No EnergySaver
Next change FW-wire and see if it helps
Next - buy a cleaning tape to Your miniDV Camera and use it as stated.
Still problems then I only knows one way. To make a tape copy via another
miniDV Camera + a new tape (which I would "dummy record with nothing
anything from start to end) and get a 4 - 4 pin FW cable and copy on this
prepared tape. Just to fill the dropouts.
    This can work.
Also You can try to turn-off the import as individual clips - under prefs in
iMovie. Sometimes it helps an esp. when recorded in LP-mode (90 min)
    NOT RECOMMENDED.

  • Video import with iMovie 10.0

I'm having trouble importing video since upgrading to Mavericks and iMovie 10.0. I'm using a Dazzle Inc. Hollywood DV device to caputre old VHS tapes from a VCR onto an iMac via firewire cable. This all worked fine with iMovie 9.09. Now the captured video is about 2-3 seconds long for a 1 hr. tape.  It looks the capture function is grabbing a .1sec snapshot every 7 or 8 minutes.

Update: I bought an adapter and FireWire cable and now imovie recognizes the camcorder but... when you import the window says "communication error"!
should I look for another editing software?
