Distorted audio out of Black Magic Decklink

Using a PowerMac G5 with a Blackmagic Decklink card the playback audio/out from the timeline is distorted. During capture, audio/in is fine. All led levels read fine, even the audio/out playback from FCP and into a Panasonic DVC Pro 650 is fine. We've updated FCP to 5.1 and Decklink's drivers to 5.1.1. Even reformatted the G5, reinstalled the OS, with a fresh install of FCP Studio. And still the audio playback from the timeline is distorted. Thoughts?

You need to troubleshoot this one step by step. Start by capturing bars and tone from tape. Set the level, note the LEDs that are lit, capture, and then open that clip in the Viewer. Play and note the LEDs that are lit. Is it the same, or at least close to the level captured?
If so, then edit the clip into a new sequence and play. Same level or different?
If all that is consistent, then tell us what the signal path is from the G5 to your external audio monitors, so we can help you from that point.

Premiere Pro 5.5 + Black Magic Decklink Mini Monitor Issues

I have been running Ppro 5.5 on a windows 7 x64 machinine without issues. However, I added a Black Magic Decklink mini monitor recently. I am having issues of time line stopping at certain native transition effects like cross disolve and premier freezing crashing to blue screen when using black magic Ppro presets.
When I changed the render mode to 'Software only' things improved. However, still face freezing intermittently but frequency is much less.
I also use ASIO4all audio driver to monitor, though when I use BM presets sound is played through HDMI.
My configuration is as below:
Processor: Intel quad core i7 2600 K @ 3.40 GZ
Memory: 8 GB
Display Card: Nvidia Quardo 2000d
OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
Edit Software: Adobe Production Premium CS 5.5 (PPro patch loaded)
SSD 128 GB system hard drive
2 TB Media Drive Internal
Audio Interface: Mackie Tapco Firelink (not used when using Black Magic Ppro Presets)
Audio Driver: ASIO4ALL (not used when using Black Magic Ppro Presets)
Could any of you give some idea what could be wrong here?

I have not used a Mini Monitor on CS5.5 (I have used others) but BM cards did work differently with CS5.5 to CS6, when Mercury Transmit was introduced. They did not do realtime effects as well (as you are finding) and only output from Blackmagic sequences. So most of the problems you are having, apart from the crashing, are normal. The BM card is also seen as a sound card so it could be set to do the sound for the system, or for Premiere, even though the picture is not being transmitted (check the audio hardware preferences in Premiere to see which is being used for sound).
The crashes could be related to graphic card drivers. CS5.5 won't be programmed to use the latest nVidia drivers, and we have had problems using the latest (300 series drivers) with CS5.5. which only show up with hardware (Blackmagic/Matrox etc) but work in software mode. The fact that you get crashes with effects may also point to this. Try downgrading the quadro drivers and see what happens - to a version like 275 or 296 rather than a 300 series driver.

Black Magic Decklink Studio 2 and CS6

Hi, all. I've been doing this for years and am always amazed at how complicated it is capturing video and audio with Premier. Now, with CS6 and Black Magic Design's Decklink Studio2, it's no different. The Black Magic capture utility works fine, but Premier won't recognize the card and it's drivers. I can't build a capture list, but use the BMD utility to capture video for editing.
Experience says reload drivers. I did that. Also loaded latest BMD drivers. Still no capture in Premier. One giant challenge is our company's IT department retains admin rights to this Windows7 64 bit Dell Precision 7730. I have to open a trouble ticket to change or load anything!
Anyway, any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Capturing at 24 fps with Black Magic Decklink Studio

I keed capturing video at 24 fps. I would rather be at 29.97 fps. How do I get to that level. The black magic is set to NTSC.

Black Magic Decklink & Logic X

Hello,
My Decklink PCI card wasn't reconised in logic 9 64bit -
I don't see a option to route video to external device in the Logic X -
How are you supposed to score something feature length in logic when running stuff natively is a drag on the CPU and Pro Tools HD works great with the Decklink.
Hopefully this can be solved!

Black Magic Decklink not working on mac

I switched recently from final cut pro to premiere. However the blackmagic decklink videocard is not working. That is i can monitor the clips via the card in the viewer but not from the timeline. So i can't monitor my work anymore.
Does anybody have a clue what to do?

You have to select a Blackmagic Sequence preset to initialize the Blackmagic card in the Program monitor. I/O cards in Adobe will not initialize if you dont select one of their sequences. It's not like Final Cut where you can just select or change your output to the card.

FYI_What Black Magic Multibridge does to Prem on a MAC

I mentioned last year while chasing up a few issues that I would rebuild my system from scratch to test out what Black Magic Multibridge Pro 2 does or doesn't do with Premiere in an effort to work out what was causing my problems.
I have a Mac Pro 4.1 with a GTX285 and all the latest updates.
Without Blackmagic Onboard or on non BM sequences:
I have found that the maintain pitch setting with audio speed changes tries to work but is of poor quality and has an echo feel to it. It is nothing like what Audition or Soundtrack Pro achieves, I am still not sure wether it is just the way it is or wether it's a bug. Anyway that's about it as far as probs without BM.
With Blackmagic Onboard or on a BM sequence:
Audio scrub does not work even when selected in Prefs.
Playback or paused resolutions cannot be changed.
Displaying different Field selection does not function.
When digitising audio only, it still digitises video aswell.
So there you have it, that's just about it. I have contacted BM and they have been very helpful, quick to respond and certainly know their stuff.
It appears that their main focus was aimed at BM & Premiere on a PC as most people with BM & Macs use FCP.
I think that now more people are migrating to premiere and enjoying it's speed the abovementioned issues may get resolved in the not too distant future.

All illustrator files, regardless of format, have an artboard. All of them. You can not create a file without an artboard. However, artboards don't print or reproduce so I can't imagine why it's a problem.
I'd suspect you are incorrect about the one color version as well and perhaps the artboard is simply sized to match the size of the artwork.
There's no such thing as an Illustrator file without an artboard.

Timeline audio not getting routed to audio out

First, thanks to all who have replied to my previous posts. I'm learning as fast as I can but there's a lot to learn...don'tyaknow!
I have several sequences that are exhibiting the same behavior. Audio plays thru my main monitors if I play the clip from the bin or from the source monitor window. However, the same clip will not play thru my audio monitors once placed on the timeline. The audio meters and the displayed waveform on the timeline show that audio is indeed there, but it is not getting to the speakers. I have a black magic Decklink HD Extreme 3D that is feeding 2 video monitors.   The video monitor that is being fed HDMI is playing back the audio on the timeline, but nothing else.
I have at least one sequence that plays audio from all Premiere sources, including the timeline, so I know it's not a hardware issue. I have used this "working" sequence to compare all audio settings with the "non-working" sequences and can find no obvious differences. Does anyone have an idea what might be happening.
I have checked for differences in:
Preferences
     Audio
     Audio Hardware
     Audio Output Mapping
     and Playback

To the best of my knowledge, BM sequences will only play audio through the BM hardware.

Soundtrack Pro (randomly?) disables my Black-Magic card I use as Sound Card

I uprgraded to 5.1 FCP and now my woes begin. Before Sountrack worked seamelessly. But now, sometimes it will play back (be audible) through the video card I use as my sound card also - a Black-Magic Decklink, and sometimes it won't. It does play though the internal speaker.
But on a few occasions, with no apparent intervention on my part, the sound does come via the sound card.
I have gone to my general preference, I have gone to Sountrack Preferences. I have tried the manual, but the manual search, you know, doesn't ever list any searches that bear at the moment at hand.
Also, Soundtrack Pro disables the card. for instance, to hear iTunes through the card, I had to quit Soundtrack Pro. Of course Apple wants to charge me for "help" with this. For myself, no idea, very stymied.

I also have the intensity settings in the mac system preferences set to y, r-y, b-y video & analog RCA Audio.
I am still stumped!

Upgrading from 4.5 to 5.0 w/Black Magic

I have attempted a FCP upgrade from 4.5 to 5.0. I have a Black Magic Decklink video card and have installed the newest version 5 from their website. I can open FCP 5, however I do not have Sony PVW-2800 deck control nor can I select any of my A/V settings to be that of Black Magic. When I first installed FCP 5, a warning came up saying that I did not have the right codec. What in the world is going on?

Did you install the Black Magic upgrade after the FCP upgrade? I believe FCP 5 needs to be in place first.

Duel iPhone 3GS & 4 Dock with Audio Out

as my title suggests, anyone know a good duel dock that can take iphone 3GS and 4 and charge them both and give me the option of usign the dock to play one of the phones through a stereo with a good quality audio out port..? i cant find one.
I dont really want a radio unit, just the charge cradle and audio out please...

or even a single dock, decent audio out, and black...?

No preview codec, crashing on start up, no audio with black magic, asking for serials

I have 4 issues with Premiere CC. At work we have a school license of some sort, what I know we got a special design one from the sales team (I might be wrong).
The problems we have runned into are:
1. We students try to open a project they been working on a error screen popps up and says something like "No preview codec could be associated with this sequence...."
I think this happens when students have merged audio and video toghether.
2. I got some help from the tech support and they made some changes in the libiry in one of the editing rooms computers and reinstalled premiere Pro CC.
It seemed as everything was working until I opened premiere CC the day after, and it asks me for a serial key. I tried putting in the serials we got and non of them worked.
I also tried logging on to the account we have and it still asks me for the serials. And when I try starting in in trail mode I can't playback anything.
3. In another editing room Premiere was crashing on start up, so I was told by the tech support to uninstall all adobe softwares and update my mac OsX and then reinstall the softwares needed. It worked but if i save projects and try to open them up Premiere CC craches.
4. On computers using black magic deck link I can't get audio out from premiere pro.
I would really appreicate if I could get some more support.

Hello again,
So the sound issue is solved, so for other users with the same problem I will write down my way of making it work.
I read some time ago that someone made it work by starting AE and in AE more choices were avalible in the audio prefrences, but this didn't work for me but it might for some, thats why I write it here.
I took this a step futher and I opened up Audition CC, and in Audition CC the sound worked just fine and it was automatically set to black magic.
After I had open Audition CC I was then able to select Premiere Pro 7.0 as the sound output in the Apple system settings sound prefrences.
Then the sound worked fine in AE and PP. Should also note that when I did it as said in the manual I didn't get it to work.
The preview preset issue is some what solved, I reinstalled premiere and upgrade my OSX as written above. First time I installed Creative Cloud I did it from a build from a hardrive I think that some how made it so creative cloud could not reach premiere correctly???
Although I still have the problem with serial numbers sometimes and I have to be logged on wich is don't work if i try to log on with the account on two or more computers.. Even thou we have a school license, so I still appreciate all help I can get with this.
I will also add that I heard that strange things can happen if users install apples latest ProApp QuickTime Codec 1.0.4 so watch out for that one at the moment, I sure adobe will fix this soon as well

Black Magic Intensity Pro Play only Audio when edit in CS 5.5

Hi i have an problem, when i try to edit with Black Magic Intensity Pro in premiere CS5.5
i can play only Audio but not Video so i check settings on Premiere and control panel for
Black Magic Intensity and everything is OK and i check connections the preview is connect
via HDMI cacle and Composite Video/Audio and in both cases i get only Audio but no Video
so what is the problem? An driver for Black Magic Intensity Pro issue or what?

We can hear audio, but video blacks out every few seconds; picture comes back when we hit the tv's volume button. Everything seems to be plugged in well. The picture even starts out being sort of dim. And it goes through phases of working fine but then will randomly start blacking out again. Any ideas?

Would you please go back to the Distorted Audio discussion and answer the last question that I posted there regarding your comments: "With even just a small investment in these things you can improve the quality of your recorded sound by tons! purchasing a Class-A Preamp ($100ish per channel) will dramatically clear up the sound and lower the noise floor, so when you record something at -20 and want to bring it up.. it won't have a lot of garbage in the signal."
