Distorted blocks of random color on macbook pro after 10.5.2 update
My macbook pro is going crazy after the 10.5.2 & graphic drivers update. This is the second time I have received large blocks of color completely filling both the macbook pro lcd and the samsung external monitor. Has never happened before on 10.5 or 10.5.1. While the screens are filled with garbage I can vaguely see outlines of programs etc.
I am a recent mac user, having purchased the laptop in late september 2007. Any ideas about what I can do to troubleshoot? Console shows no errors logs. When the system crashes, everything is still running and I can hear music playing but I cannot navigate my way to save all open work and have to power off.
Aside from that, sometimes when I wake the machine and open the lid it never wakes up and I have to power off. And sometimes when I reboot, it never reboots and sits on the final screen after everything has disppeared.
Any ideas?
Disconnect all peripherals from the computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Once you reach the desktop, repair permissions.

09 macbook pro, after 10.6.6 update won't wake from sleep without power
Hey, weird thing going on here. After I updated to 10.6.6 on my '09 Macbook Pro it won't wake from having the lid closed unless the power is plugged in. I've tried closing the lid with the power still plugged in, and unplugging it before I close the lid. If I leave he power plugged in it works fine. If I unplug it after I've closed the lid, or even BEFORE I close the lid (and give it time to calculate battery life and everything) it turns off like it was a out of battery and I have to hold the power button down to make it wake, then it does the blurred out screen with the progress bar at the bottom (like recovering from low battery), but eventually comes back. The battery indicator on the bottom shows it has a nearly full battery when this is happening. I've tried adjusting sleep and power/energy saving settings but nothing has fixed it.... anyone got some ideas? It never did this before the 10.6.6 update
Thanks!Im having the same issue.
Seems to have happened just after 10.6.6 upgrade
Battery only has 80 cycles on it and shows full charge
i dont get the hybernate wakeup screen, but shuts down promptly after unplugged, and wont startup without power.
Tried:
*SMC RESET-holding power without battery in for over 5 seconds...no change
*P RAM RESET-holding commandoption+pr during startup... no change
*Installed applejack and ran all options... worked... for about 20 minutes then shutdown
*Changed sleep settings...battery settings...hibernating settings...
im outta ideas.... -
Energy Saver still crashing MacBook Pro AFTER 10.9.4 update...
It's simple.
Display Sleep and Computer Sleep turned off = no crashes.
Computer Sleep turned on = crashes.
Anyone else still experiencing this?I have been looking at the console since the crashes started. I recently repartitioned and reinstalled everything from the ground up. It was solid for awhile, but started crashing soon after. To be clear (which my title wasn't completely), the crashes started with 10.9.3. Anyway, here's the first part of the last crash...

Canon camera no longer connects to Macbook Pro after 10.4.7 update
Has anybody gotten word from Apple on this issue yet? My Rebel XT/350D stopped connecting to my MBP after the latest software update. It has stopped working with iPhoto, Image Capture and Capture ONE. If I put the CF card in a USB reader, it is recognized (occasionally) as a removable disk.
What gives?CZ:
Did you update the system via the Software Update? If so then download the 10.4.7 COMBO updater and run it. There are some files it's reported, that are left off the incremental updater and the combo one will fix some of the problems that causes. Not sure your problem is one of them but it's work a try. Don't forget to repair disk permissions afterward.

safari 6 crashes randomly on my macbook pro 13 mid 2012 with mountain lion. next to that, animations are choppy/laggy..I'm getting the same problem. Safari closes, presents no crash dialog, and reopens the tabs I had up when i open it back up. I'd suspect people think they are triggering this themselves.
Getting this in console: Safari[2066]: Received an invalid message from the web process with message ID 323002f -
I have a macbook pro, and am trying to update my software. I recently bought an iphone 5, and my software is to out of date to sync my phone with itunes. I currently am running 10.5.8 and I need to update to atleast 10.6.8. Just wondering if I need to purchase it from apple or if there is an easy/free way to update it.
you need to purchase it: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard. It is only on a disk, not in download form.

Can i return my macbook pro after 5 months
can i return my macbook pro after 5 months
If you bought it direct from Apple, you have 14 days to return it for a full refund or toward the purchase of a different model.
After that time, if it is broken it can be repaired. If it does not suit your needs and cannot be upgraded to suit your needs, you recourse is to convert it to CASH by selling it, and apply the cash toward a computer that better suits your needs. -
my built-in isight camera will still not work on my macbook pro after completing smc reset. The green light comes on but no video.
Any Suggestions?Restart the computer.

I currently have iPhoto 8.1.2 on my macbook pro and am trying to update to the latest version. I have had to work backward, but I can only get back to 9.1, which will not install because it says I need at least 9.0 to install it. Is 9.0 available? Will I need to go back even further? Thanks
Upgrading from iPhoto 8 to iPhoto 9 requires a purchase. There are two ways to get to iPhoto 9:
1 - purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com.
2 - if your MBP meets the requirements upgrade you system for free to Mavericks. Then you can purchase the latest iPhoto version, 9.5.1, from the App Store.

I upgraded my iTunes to 10.7 on my MacBook Pro - after that iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone 4S 6.0.1 (10A523) in the iTunes sidebar. Solutions?
(Both upgrades to the phone and lap-top were done based on Apples suggestion, so I find it strange it doesn't work automatically, which should be a basic reason for choosing Apples costly products!)Try rebooting your computer.
You might also try downloading and installing iTunes 11 which came out today. -
Updated my Macbook Pro with Snow leopard, then updated that to 10.6.8, then downloaded and began installing mavericks.
Mavericks apparently installed? I looked away and when I looked back my computer was off! It has not worked since.
I tried safe mode - where you could see progress and a repatitive error message scrolled (very fast) firever down the screen. Nothing seemed to be futher going to happen so I turned it off again. All other discussion forums I have followed say try time-machine back-up (I do not have it).
Really, I am wondering, what an earth is going on?If there's any way to read that screen message it probably explains the problem.
You might try to boot into "verbose mode" to see if that makes it any easier to see the message. -
Just bought a used MacBook pro after my previous died. I want to migrate my applications, data, etc from a time machine backup of the old computer to the new. Will this affect, or overwrite the Apps., data, etc existing on the new machine?
No. Only those Apps that are not installed on the new will migrate over.

macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/ -
My Apple TV is not mirroring my Macbook Pro after I installed OS X Mavericks
My Apple TV is not mirroring my Macbook Pro after I installed OX X Mavericks?
Installing Maverick does not change the hardware requirements.
Did it work prior to installing Maverick?
Does the device meet the hardware requirements?
Supported Macs
AirPlay Mirroring in OS X takes advantage of the hardware video encoding capabilities of 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel Core processors. Hardware video encoding allows AirPlay Mirroring to efficiently deliver high frame rates while maintaining optimal system performance. The following Mac models have processors that support AirPlay Mirroring:
iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
