Distorted desktop and safari menu

My desktop , all photos, and safari menu are distorted.
I have reset desktop image and it is fine. Then shortly it is as if everything was giant sized and blurry.
Shut down and re open helped a few times but no longer does. Fonts in Mail and articles on Safari are fine but an image is blurry with lines through it as though it was enlarged over and over and over, Tried changed number of colors; screen size. Am at a loss AND AM NOT A VERY TECH PERSON.

NO iPhoto Library showing in Desktop and Screensaver Menu in SL

Hi experts,
I have experienced a problem after I updated to SL last night.
I made a fresh install of both SL and iLife 09 on my mbp unibody late 2008.
Afterwards, I replaced the my fresh iphoto library simply with my old iphoto 09 library from time machine (no migration tool, only copy pasts).
But now I recognized a problem that I see no iphoto library in my Desktop and Screensaver Menu in control panel. I cant set iphoto library photos as screensaver cause I cant see them
Does anyone have a solution for it? or does anybody face the same issue?

I have the same thing. I wiped everything clean and installed Snow Leopard/iLife '09/etc. I run my iPhoto lib from an Airdisk and I just set iPhoto to point to that same library on the wireless disk. Everything works fine, except I can't set iPhoto pics as my desktop. I see a label for iPhoto (just like when it used to work) except there's no arrow by it and it's empty. If I plug the computer straight into the disk and use the same library, it works fine. Any thoughts?

Help with dock, desktop, and safari reseting

For some reason the last time i shut my 20 inch imac down, it wouldnt shut off completely, so i held down the power button to shut it off. The next time i started up my dock, the desktop, and my safari settings all reset, does anyone have an idea of what could have happened?

Similar Problem with MacPro. Freeze up while logging out of non-admin account <force quit using power button <restart resulted in ano-admin account reconfigured and could not acces mail or reconfigure via Preferences (e.g., dock, desktop background, etc. The Administrator account was not effected.
FIX that worked: after much fiddling appeared that Permissions was problem. So- went to Mac HD (startup volume) <users <non-admin account < reset permissions using [command] and set permissions (Ownership & Permissions < Details (for both Owner and Group) to allow read & write ppermissions. Now it appears all is well. For some reason the freeze-shutdown glitch had reset the Ownership & Permissions to "system" and "no access allowed".

[SOLVED]Gnome desktop and KDE menu suddenly gone

I run Arch on a second machine with both KDEmod and Gnome installed. When logging in today Gnome desktop was gone (wallpaper, icons, etc), but the panels were still there. All applications seem to function normally. Switching to Kdemod brought the following result: Desktop and icons are still visible, panels too, just all menu entries and the Konqueror and home icon in the panel are gone. I can still call up applications from the cli.
The "kmenuedit" command gives me the following error: "... could not read from /home/raisuli/menu/applications-kmeduedit.menu" which is not surprising because the file doesn't exist (anymore?).
Should I just reinstall Gnome and KDEmod or could there be another way?

hmm, i'm not sure what could have happened
maybe you can get them back if you re-install gnome-menus, archlinux-menus ,, i don't think kde comes with any as a pkg.
you might also be missing /usr/share/applications, most of the entries also come from desktop files in that directory

Hi guys, i have a new dell server with windows server 2012 essentials, but suddenly i cant´t see the icons of my desktop and i can´t acces my start screen with the windows button, if i make a right click in the screen an make a refresh, the icons appears,
and the programs run fine, but i can´t get to any function of the windows server, not control panel, the windows explorer. I dont know how to repair this problem, without reinstalling windows sever It's not an option because i have an ERP wich cost a lot to

Did you install the Windows Server 2012 Essentials version by yourself or it is a pre-installed OEM version? If it is an OEM version, you can ask the seller for assistance.

Can you open the command prompt? If yes, please run "eventvwr" at the command prompt to check if any related event IDs existing. In addition, you can also run the antivirus software to perform a virus scan.

Starting Photoshop 2014 CC from Desktop and start menu states ExtendScript.dll error

I purchased Adobe CC for Student this morning and when I go to launch Photoshop 2014 CC from start menu/desktop it states:
"This Program can't start because ExtendScript.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"
If however I try to launch from the directory of the installation or the task bar it launches with non of the errors stated above I will also state that
when I go to search the directory for the .dll file its there, is there a fix for this or will I have to install this completely.

Mac or Windows?
Did you run the 15.1 update from Help > updates or from the CC Desktop Application?
Try installing that, if still fails, might need to uninstall, and reinstall.

Firefox desktop and start menu shortcuts were hidden after install - why?

I just installed Firfox 5 and after installing both the desktop shortcut and the start menu shortcut were marked as hidden in windows.
Anyone else experienced this and have any ideas what could have caused this. It was rather confusing.
I'm running on a brand new laptop (Dell XPS-17) running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit). The only candidate I can think of is the computer came with McAffee, which I haven't used in years. It was appallingly bad back then but thought I'd give it a chance as Dell gave me 15months free.

I would like to suggest you try these steps to figure out what could be causing this problem.
1. Run Troubleshooter
Open the Search and Indexing troubleshooter

2. Create a new library and include fewer folders for test purpose. Now search for a file from that folder. See if it works.

3. Try to rebuild search indexing. Refer the steps from the following article.

Also you may use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to check the issue. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Changed font in desktop and safari

Hi, I found the following changes in the font in desktop. The font that is used for showing the size of volume, file or folder etc has gotten changed to something ugly.

also, some fonts on safari seem to have changed. Other users on my machine seem to have the leopard defaults. Where can i change the font to the default again?

I validated all the fonts but still no change. I used font smoothing for sizes below 4 point and it improved visibility.

Desktop and start menu vanished

hp mini 1000/ mdl 1151nr windows loads but i do not have desktop or icons. no start menu. how can i get my desktop back?

Tap away at f8 as you start the PC to enter Windows Recovery Console. Use the arrows to select 'Start using last known Good Configuration' and hit enter. See if this helps. If it does, I would recommend running a full scan with your security software.

Running Windows 7 and have repeatedly installed & uninstalled Reader. After installation, Reader overlaps applets. Reader works fine. Can not use desktop or start menus. Then I uninstall Reader. Presently it is not installed.

I have downloaded and used Firefox on several MAC computers and it keeps disappearing . I turn my computer on and it is gone from my desktop and my menu. Why is this happening?

I just installed firefox on 2 computers a few weeks ago and each time I turn on my computer it is gone. Why is it removing itself from my Mac?

There are two boxes in the middle of the screen, one says "RENTED MOVIES" the other says "Ipad". I can't get the MOVE button to allow me to move them to the Ipad box, not one at a time, not both, and then I try the Apply. I've even tried the REVERT. Nothing seems to work properly. I even unplugged the Ipad, closed itunes and tried again. I really want to watch these on the plane tomorrow. I even took everything else off, just in case. The MOVE button is the problem.

I started my computer and the icons for firefox said "Whywhy" both on my desktop and in the strat menu.

The wording under the icons on both desktop and start menu was changed to "Whywhy". I have not used those icons to run firefox for fear that it would launch a virus or malware. I have never seen this happen before, and I have attempted to search the internet for a solution as to why it happened. There are no results for that intrernet search, both in your knowledge base and google.

I too was having the same problem However, I could access both the menu bar and the dock by hovering my mouse over them so it wasn't a huge problem but I prefered having it there anyway. I was not in full screen mode and I could still go into full screen mode if I wanted to. I found the easiest solution was to just quit safai and restart it, but it might not work for you considering you couldn't access you menu bar either way.
I found this article that allows you to hide/show the menu bar and the dock through TextEdit (didn't work for me) http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2009/07/hide-the-menubar-or-dock-in-specific-app s.html It is pretty old so it might not work for lion and a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing so I wouldn't really recommend doing it this way.
And KSheppard, I know it's not really any of my buisness, but the way to get answers to a question isn't by insulting others and being quick-tempered. Even if you feel like you were insulted first, don't try snapping at people who aren't obligated to help you. Honestly, it just makes everything easier if everybody is cooperative and polite.

Often when people think they've deleted an application, what's really happened is that they deleted its icon from the Dock. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. If the application is in that folder, drag it to the Dock (not to the Desktop or anywhere else.) The other Dock icons will move out of the way to make a place for it.

My screen goes from large to small in safari. also disappears than comes back. goes to desktop and then comes back.

I am having an issue when using safari. My screen goes from really large to normal. The screen also disappears and I get to the desktop with the small screens on top. Then I get the dock (I believe) with the calendar, time, weather, ect. Mouse goes crazy whether using the track thing or a regular mouse. Doesn't happen all the time but most of the time. Also the computer feels really hot to the touch.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
