Distorted fonts with Mac OS 10.6.7
Hi everyone,
This problem was probably documented already, but I'd like to know if there's a new solution coming from Adobe, since it's VERY annoying.
After I print a PDF from Word, my text (set in Simoncini), appears distorded when opened with Reader. See image. When I open the PDF with Preview, there's nothing wrong with it. From some Mac forums, it appears that the new OS version is conflicting with Adobe. Do you think it's the case ? Thanks for your help in advance.
There are font issues (usually postscript flavored open type) that is effecting OS X.6.7 and Adobe Reader and Acrobat. No solution other than going back to OS X.6.6 or messing manually with certain framework files which may make the OS not upgradable one the OX X.6.8 fixes the problem.

I am trying to introduce a new workflow as I work for a finance company and have CS6 installed.
We want to produce most of our documents inhouse here (other users will be using CS4) and then outsource the rest of the document completion to our graphic place. They are on macs however using CS6.
The fonts will be Myriad Pro for the headings and Arial for the body but I am unsure if any fonts and lines spaces will drop off ?
Can anyone give me some advice? Any compatability issues with this?
Should I try and purchase some fonts from the Adobe foundry? Is there standard fonts that I can buy that are compatable?Use opentype fonts only and you should have no problems.

i still have a warranty but it will be out in a week. i previously have a sound distortion problem with my mac for months and suddenly it just fix itself. what should i do? i'm worried that it will comeback and i dont have a warranty anymore.

you still have the option (before your warranty expires) of purchasing an AppleCare Protection Plan, which will provide an additional two years of coverage. Once your warranty expires, you will no longer have the option of purchasing AppleCare. -
I could read Burmese font with Zawgyi Font in my previous Mac Book with Lion. I have MacAir Retina display with MountainLion and could not read Burmese fonts. Font books have 3 fonts for Burmese font and all are enable. Please help

HP scan incompatible with Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks)?
A number of people seem to be having scan problems after upgrading to OS X Mavericks. Me too.
Working with LaserJet Pro 300 color MFP M375 nw.
I want to use HP Scan from my iMac, connected to the LaserJet, to scan from that printer/scanner to my iMac (to thedesktop), as I've done a thousand times.
When I try, the appearance in the HP Scan window is all as usual. But when I "send to folder," the .jpeg (or .pdf or .tif) that arrives on the desktop is (1) distorted and (2) partial.
NOTE: If I use the 'General Purpose' setting, no distortion - but with that setting I can't get 300 ppi, which is what I want.
I can also get a *sort of* result with the 3D setting.
However, the 'Documents with text' setting - the one I have always used - gives the same distored/chopped result no matter what variations I introduce.
There do not seem to be any software upgrades from Apple.
I can't find anything on the HP site for downloads to deal with the Mavericks OS.
Is something in the works from HP? How will we know about it?

There have been numerous reports of an HP Scan incompatibility on Mavericks. Please be assured that we are looking into this issue and hope to have a resolution soon.
At this time here is what we've observed:
* On many Macs (not all), images scanned in Black & White or Grayscale will not save properly. The preview looks fine, but the output will be cropped and distorted.
* This issue is new for Mavericks. Previous OS versions are not impacted.
Here are some known workarounds that may help you until this is properly resolved:
* Use Image Capture to scan. Image Capture can be found in the Applications folder. This scanning application does not appear to be affected by the file saving issues.
* Use the HP Scan Print dialog to save the output to PDF using one of the PDF workflow options.
* Use the "General Purpose" scanning preset. This preset scans in color and so output is not affected.
* Change the settings for the "Documents with Text" preset to scan in full color. You can also create a new preset based on the "Documents with Text" set for color if you plan to use these settings regularly. Note that if you are not planning to process the documents for text extraction (OCR) then you can lower the scan resolution to 200 ppi to keep the file sizes more manageable since color scans can be much larger than grayscale or black & white.
I will try to provide more details as they emerge. Thanks for everyone who has shared observations about their experience and configuration as this continues to be very helpful in tracking down root cause for this issue.

PSE 10 Install issue with Mac OS 10.6.8

The second downloaded version made it farther than the first on the installation. It makes it to the installation of PSE 10 and then jumps from 60% installed to 98% and shows the above message. This is getting really frustrating given that it takes me several hours to download a copy of this software.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I deleted (and emptied the trash) of the Adobe folder in the Hard drive>library>application support folders, uninstalled the partial install of PSE 10 using Adobe's uninstall, turned off the antivirus software, and tried installing from a new administrative account. Here is the error code from this most recent attempt.

This computer has had some previous Photoshop versions migrated to it over the years (Photoshop 4.0 for OS 9, and Photoshop 7.0). Photoshop 7.0 stopped working after I upgraded the OS from Tiger to Snow Leopard, and I no longer have the disks or serial number so that is why I'm trying install PSE 10. Could these old versions (which I tried to delete, but did not have a specific uninstall version for) be a source of this issue? If so, is there a way to make sure they're all gone?

Coloring a Font with a RGB etc. without adding the color to the document swatches.
Is there a way of coloring a font with a RGB, Lab or CMYK color without adding the color to the document swatches.
The only way I know is to add a color to the swatches or use one that already exists.

I had tried the link and it did download but I have cs5 cs6 and cc but not cs5.5 and all the scripts worked on them may because of the file conversion.
So it looks like the following summary is all correct
All documents new contain
Swatches (Black, Registration, Paper and None) the index order will be the order that the swatches appear in the swatches panel
And colors in an alphabetical index order
named color "A" first "Z" last and then the unnamed colors.
A such all new documents colors[-1] will be an unnamed color which we can duplicated to produce other unnamed colors taking note that the duplication must be process and not spot colors.
So far so good, (not for long )
Unnamed colors are not read only so if we make a positive effort to remove them we can do that.

We now won't have any unnamed swatches to duplicate and will have to resort to John's tagged text file method in 3 above.
If there were no unnamed swatches and we try to duplicate colors[-1] and it was a color like "Yellow" then it seem's to crash indesign.
Anyway the below method should always work (for regular non tint etc. type colors).

Hi,
I just purchased this font. I've followed the installation instructions, placing the .otf file in Mac HD>Library>Fonts>, with all the other font files.
The name appears correctly in Adobe product font lists, but does not give the correct characters (just black dots or boxes with an x in them). In Word, it appears in the font drop down menu as a line of gibberish, although does appear correctly in the window when selected. It likewise gives incorrect characters as per the adobe products.
How do I go about getting it to work properly?
Thanks for your help!There are two ways of accessing the glyphs in this font.
One way is through the Glyph Pallete, which is only available in InDesign and Illustrator.
The other way is by using Private Use Area (PUA) characters, which in this font are in the range U+E001 to U+E068. These characters are the chunk of "text" (yes, the boxes) that you see below. Copy & Paste it in the app, and apply the font. The result should look similar to what's shown in the image below. This method should work with any app, MS Word included.
There is yet a third way of accessing the glyphs, but it only works for the ornaments that have text (e.g. of, ONLY, AND), and requires an application that supports the OpenType feature called "Standard Ligatures". This method will work in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, TextEdit, and with the most recent versions of MS Word. -
I have a new mac mini with OS X, Version 10.4.5 and I am trying to load ITC Kabel font with font book and can’t. My friend has a G5 with OS X, Version 10.4.6 (with Classic also loaded) and she can load the same font in her OS X font book. When I open up the font on my old G3 (OS 9.2) it shows it as a font file; on the mac mini it shows it as a Unix Executable file). Any help would be appreciated.
Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.4.5)I think I understand what you're doing, but I'm not sure why. I was under the impression that you were having problems adding fonts to Font Book & the default libraries. Since the font is now listed in Font Book, that part is done, it is in the default library, computer or user, that you have set in the Font Book preferences. A new library or new collection will be empty ("no fonts selected") until you add fonts to them. Unless you want to keep a font library on a server for access by several computers or create one to have different collections than in the main computer or user library there is no need to create more libraries. Fonts in the libraries are available to applications. Some applications may not recognize fonts added while the program is running. You will need to quit the program & then restart it. You may even need to restart your Mac.
If you want to organize your fonts by type or use, like I have in this picture (you can see me dragging the font Curlz to the Fun collection), create a new collection, name it & then add fonts to it either by File > Add Fonts > click on the desired font(s) to select/highlight > Open or by dragging & dropping from the all fonts pane.
Please post back if I'm still clear as mud. I'll try some more & see if I can find someone else with ideas. -
Black font with white contour?
I have a "cloudy" background, changing from light to dark. Best font option would be a black font with white contour. I know how to get the font into "contour" but, how can I cange the filling of the contour?

How do I save PowerPoint fonts with files
Is there any way of saving fonts with PowerPoint files? I remember something about this being possible in Windows but my Mac version doesn’t seem to be able to do it. Basically I want to use a few fonts which are on my machine but may not be on others, so I get a poor-quality substitute. Is it possible to save the slides as jpegs or something?

[SOLVED] Distorted fonts in oxygen-gtk theme
I have install oxygen-gtk2 theme along with gtk-kde4.
When my desktop effects are ON I am seeing distorted fonts in drop down menu's of gtk applications.
They become normal when I move mouse on them. Also they appear normal when desktop effects are OFF.
No other theme have any issue.
Can anyone help me in solving this ?

I don't have flash video player running. This issue is consistent even without running anything else.
And It is not visible in kde application or with other gtk themes.
It comes only with oxygen-gtk, with kde desktop effects activated, only in gtk applications, only for text in pop-up menus.
Even other texts in those application are normal.
Is anybody else facing same issue in this combination ? -
Does anyone know of a dot-matrix printer compatible with Mac OS X Lion?
We need to upgrade our system at work to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. We need to find a dot-matrix printer to print our multi-part forms. We have been using an Epson FX-980 and FX-890N under OS X 10.4 (Classic Mode). I've tried to use the FX-890N (newer) using the Epson 9-pin driver supplied with OS X 10.7. The print quality is so bad it's almost illegable. I also tried different fonts in the hopes to improve print quality but have not been able to improve.
We have GOT to get to OS X 10.7 Lion, but cannot give up our impact printing capability. We are willing to buy a new impact printer if needed.
Please HELP!!!

We just purchased a LexMark Forms (dot-matrix) Printer Model 2580n after takling with sales support at LexMark. They confirmed that this printer worked with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). HOWEVER, after receiving the printer, and unsuccessfully attempting to get it to print, I called their tech support. They told me that their sales dept was incorrect, and that they do not have a dot-matrix printer that will work with OS X 10.7. They are in the process of issuing me an RMA# to return the printer with a full refund.
Nothing would make me happier than for you to prove them wrong. I DESPERATELY need to find a dot-matrix printer that does work with OS X 10.7.
Any additional input you could supply would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to your reply. -

well, the certification tab doesnt talk about Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard). I don't think it's not certified yet. But if its for learning purpose, you can always give it a try. :)
