Distorted Grids in Folders

Whenever I open a folder with any files in it, the view is all messed up. Many documents are overlapping each other. I select everything in the folder and press clean this selection up under the view menu, and it looks fine then, but every time I reopen the folder the documents that are there are overlapping themselves and so not look organized at all. This even happens when I add a new document to a folder- it does not match up with the grid that the rest of the documents are on, and makes my folders look unorganized. How can I solve this problem?
Thanks a lot,
Max F.

When you have a folder open select Show View Options (Command-J or -J) and make the appropriate ajustments there. I would probably suggest you simply enable the "Keep arranged by" setting for All Windows.

  • How can I change the highlight color of grid view folders in the dock?

Using OSX 10.10 Yosemite, the highlight color for a folder in Grid view is barely noticeable.
Can you spot the highlighted icon below?
I've grown accustom to clicking the applications folder in the doc then typing a few letters to get me close to the app I want- now it takes an extra few seconds for me to visually find the icon that got highlighted.
Is there a way to change the highlight color here?

I would open up the grid spacing slightly so everything does not run together. In System Preferences > General, try setting Highlight color: Red. This won't change the grey selection background around the icon, but it will turn the background behind the icon text to red. That stands out. However, the collateral effect is that text you select in this editor, and other OS X applications, will now have a red background too. Changing colors will require a killall Finder in the Terminal. Actually set mine to #ffff00 which is a vivid yellow, which is more practical when selecting text in a document.

  • Solution for Wacom Intous 4 tablet with LR 4.1?

I'm having a problem selecting and dragging files from the library grid onto folders using my pen and mouse on the Wacom Intuos 4 tablet.
I tried repeatedly to select all rejects from a shoot and drag them to a separate folder. When clicking and dragging with the Wacom pen or mouse, all that happens is that I deselect the rejects I just selected in the previous step (Edit > Select by flag > Rejects). Really frustrating.
I tried to do the same with the standard Apple mouse with no problems, with the mouse I'm allowed to click and drag without deselecting my selection in the process - so the issue seems to be isolated to the Wacom.
I have just updated to the latest Wacom driver under Os X Lion, but the issue persists, and I haven't experienced any other bugs with this driver. So I'm not sure if the issue is with the driver or LR.
Anyone else having the same issue - and have you been able to find a cure for this?

Where did you get the driver? Did you load it from the CD that came with the tablet or did you download it from Wacom's web site? I never bother with the driver on the CD and always download the latest from Wacom.
I have two Wacom tablets that are working just fine with 10.4.11. One's an Intuos2 using version 4.9.6-3 of Wacom's driver. The other's some older Graphire tablet, though the driver may be newer, since the computer itself is newer (it's not handy to look at right now).
Do you see the tablet listed in your System Profiler results? That's the "More Info..." button in the "About this Mac" box under the Apple menu.

  • Drag and Drop not working in Library Mode.

I tried rebooting but there seems to be no way to move images from the grid under folders to catalogs. Can't drag and drop in LR 5.3.

You can't drag images from the Folders in grid to a CATALOG.
If what you mean is dragging from Folders  to Collections than you have to drag from the IMAGE, not the CELL.  You can not drag to Smart Collections, only Regular Collections.

  • 2D Coordinate Transformation

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with my current problem. I have two sets of 2D Cartesian coordinates. The first set gives the locations of points in a regular grid. The second set gives locations of points in a distorted grid - it may be offset, rotated, skewed etc compared to the regular grid.
If the points in the two data sets match up (i.e. the first point in the distorted grid corresponds to the first point in the regular grid), how could I map between the two data sets?
The ultimate aim is to be able to determine which four known points from the distorted data set surround an arbitrary point, and then use the mapping between the distorted and regular points to transform the coordinates for that arbitrary point into the regular coordinate system.
I just can't figure out how to do the mapping, I've tried using a Labview program that used the solve linear equations VI but that was treating the x and y coordinates as independent and it failed to map properly if, for example, a square in the regular grid was a trapezium in the distorted grid.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance,

Ok, I think I have this working. The transformation is described in the fourth post here (click) if anyone else needs it.

  • Cs5 - images have weird grid-like/pixelation distortion i cant get rid of! help!

i've just downloaded the trial of photoshop cs5 (it took ages mind you!) and when i go to open (or create) a file that is larger (eg 1000x750 pixels) there is this weird grid that distorts the image (it's not the grid you can turn off and on or the grid that shows the actual pixels). when i open a smaller file there is no grid and the image is perfectly clear and normal - but when i zoom out there is a grid. also, when i'm zoomed out (eg 66% but sometimes from even 200%) the distortion happens, whereas if i zoom closer it disappears.
it doesn't distort the image itself, but distorts the colours in parts of the image.
i've experimented enlarging the canvas of a smaller image and placing a larger image into it on a different layer, but then the grid affects not only the larger image but the smaller as well, like it is stretching the colours to the edge of the canvas, or trying to pixelate/fuzz the image. however the grid doesn't affect the whole canvas, just the bits above and to the side of the larger images (mostly).
also when i zoom in/out gradually the squares of the grid enlarge and change size (both bigger and smaller).
so i don't know what the problem is, and any help/suggestions would be much appreciated as i need to use the program for a uni assignment due in a couple of weeks!!
    thanks!

Hey- I have the same issue. When I started using cs5 I noticed this grid/distortion right away. At first I thought it was my wacom tablet (I use an Intuos 3) but its not. Its very annoying because I cant put my fingure on why this is happening. Anytime I ask a friend about it who normally knows alot about photoshop they tell me its that grid option thing which I have already turned off. I have included a screen shot of what the issue looks like. Any ideas anyone?

  • Duplicating Folders in Stacks Grid

I've got a problem with Stacks that is driving me crazy. Every now and then, the contents inside the stacks that contain my home folder and my applications folder, are duplicated. But NOT inside of other containers that I have dragged to the Dock. If I reboot, it fixes itself. I did several searches here but did not find an answer.
Here is are screen shots that show what I'm talking about:
    Home Folder:
    Application Folder:
Recently Used Items (This one is fine!)
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Jason

Well yeah I agree with a few exceptions. the 10.5.2 update basically did away with Quay. But there is still no way to choose a fixed icon for a Stack folder you display on the Dock... so you have to do a mod or "work around".
The update also did nothing to allow you to have illuminated selections when in grid mode, which really should be standard. And the hacks I've employed are terminal hacks, not 3rd party programs. So I really don't think that the hacks are causing my problem.
I think the problem for me was that prior to the 10.5.2 update, I had to use Quay to get what I wanted out of stacks, but the update fixed that issue, and I forgot to uninstall it. And even still, I can't say for sure that Quay was the problem. Could be something else. And if all else fails, I'll just undo the two terminal hacks I've done and see what happens.
And honestly, I'd probably much rather go back to the way Tiger handled user folders on the Dock. That was just fine for me.

In Lens correction, the grid only shows while the mouse is at the distortion slider (in Profile) or one of the Transform sliders (in Manual).

  • When I go to my folders in the doc, the fan feature is not there. It stays in grid. I can click list. Once in list (and list only), the fan option returns. However when I click it, it just goes to automatic. My folders just have 3 items or less in them.

When I go to my folders in the doc, the fan feature is not there. I stays in grid. I can click list. Once in list (and list only), the fan option has returned. However when I click it, it just goes to automatic. My folders just have 3 items in them. How do I correct this? Quick note...when my son logs into his user account, the fan feature pops right up and works fine. Thanks!

Is the Dock on the bottom or the side? Fan is not an option with it on the side.

  • Why do the title bar on Firefox and taskbar on Windows 7 leave distorted image when a list of bookmark folders crosses either one ?

I use lots of folders in my bookmarks list. I have noticed that with both AMD and Nvidia based video cards, that if I am using a folder in my bookmarks list that has lots and lots of bookmarks, the list of bookmarks will cross both the title bar area of Firefox and the taskbar on Windows 7 at the bottom. When this happens, both the title bar on Firefox versions 8-10 and the taskbar at the bottom will leave images from the bookmark list that don't go away (unless I use F11 view fullscreen to clear away the image and restore to normal ). If I am using a Matrox video card, this doesn't happen. Why is this?

    Hey cor-el,
Wow. That did it. You are a genius! Thank you, thank you. It's very important that I be able to use the folders with saved bookmarks feature for my business which I rely on daily.
I unchecked the "use hardware acceleration feature" where you said it was in Firefox 9 browser and it resolved the problem immediately. I am using an Nvidia GS8400 video card. I was having the same problem on the new ATI/AMD video cards too (haven't tested though on ATI computer yet). My Matrox M9120 doesn't do that at all though. Do you have any idea why that is ? Is it a software conflict between Nvidia or AMD drivers and Firefox?
One more question on your response solution, why do you recommend upgrading to current video card drivers since un-checking the "hardware acceleration" feature in Firefox works? The video card drivers on the disc that came with the card I am using were supplied by the manufacturer and released last year. Shouldn't that be good enough?

  • Fluid Grid layout: images distorted on iDevices.

I have built this site in a fluid grid and am finding that if I resize images manually, then they are vertically stretching when viewed on iphones or ipads: www.oconnells.net.nz
The only way I can get around the issue is to save the image at exactly the size to fit the space, but for various reasons I prefer to save them at 640 px wide, which I then resize manually to suit the particular space.
Is this something that can be avoided?
    Thanks in advance for advice
    Jo

I think that you will find that the problem occurs in all small screens which precludes the iPad.
The reason is two fold, lack of real estate and hard coding the width and height as in

  • Upright images in  dev module are distorted

When I select an upright (portrait) image  from library, the develope module displays a distorted landscape view. This happens to every upright file in the folder. Other folders seem to work ok without this problem.
While messing around with image rotate, read metadate, save metadata, etc I managed to make one image open up correctly but I have been unable to recreate that work around. In any case, that fiddly way would take too long as I have hundreds of files to correct !
I normally work with auto rotate ON in the camera.
    Any ideas ?

As no one seems to know the answer to my problem I contacted my local amateur camera club and a member gave me the following correct solution
Whilst in Library mode select grid view then select the problem pic.
Go to Metadata and select save metadata to file.Close the folder.
Re-open the folder and view in Library grid.
Go to Metadata and select read metadate from file.
Go to Develpo and the problem is solved.
This method also works with multiple selections provided time is allowed for the process to take place on all pics

  • Can't drag files into folders in PDF portfolio

I have created a PDF portfolio that contains primarily PDFs converted from e-mail messages, along with a few files from various Microsoft Office products. The portfolio has been added to over time, and now we have almost 100 files in the portfolio, so we'd like to organize these files into folders so it is easier to use.
However, when I create a folder, I am not able to drag any files into it. I've tried all different types of files--PDFs, Word, PowerPoint--when I drag the file on top of the folder, I get the circle backslash symbol indicating the function is not allowed. I can't find any information about this in the Help files; every tutorial I've looked at indicates that I should be able to drag and drop files wherever I like, but doesn't mention what to do if I can't.
I'm using Acrobat Pro X on Windows XP with Service Pack 3.
Any suggestions about why this might be happening and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to have to recreate the whole thing, but it's not going to be very useful if we continue adding unorganized files.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

I tried a different layout (I had a custom layout set up; I switched to the standard Grid), and I still can't drag and drop.
I just now created a new portfolio with a few of the same files, and I was able to drag the files into a folder I created.
Yes, the original portfolio was created in Acrobat 9.
    Thanks,
    Lisa
