Distorted Images In Aperture Browser

When I opened up Aperture 3, I noticed some of my images in the browser of projects were distorted.  I also noticed that all the changes I had made to the raw images were lost.  When I click on an individual image an it enlarges the distortion is gone and the changes are restored.  But as soon as I go bact to the browser the problem re-occurs.  Any idea what causes this or how to fix it?

Your thumbnails and/or previews may be corrupted. Rebuilding the thumbnails and previews may help. Select the images in question in the Browser, then from the main menu select

  • Creating a Book from selected images in Aperture browser creates empty book

I have been a happy user of Aperture 2 for several weeks now but I have been stumped by a problem when I come to layout a book. Help please!
The problem is that any book I create contains no pictures in the aperture browser - so I can't add anything to my empty books. I have tried everything to get images into my book but nothing works. What is odd is that Projects tab I see that the total number of photos I selected at book creation time is given correctly. I just can't see any in the browser.
I have also tried to drag and drop pictures into the book pages and the project folder but nothing happens.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Steve

    Hi Thomas,
    Thanks so much for replying.
In answer to your question - the bottom bar of the browser does not say anything - and yet the Projects tab lists the book and also the number of images that I selected when I made the New -- Book from the pull down menu option.
I also tried to add images to the book's browser by drag and drop from another project or folder to the name of the book project in the project list. It doesn't work for me.
Very odd as I have been happily importing, exporting and publishing web galleries for several weeks now.
FYI, my Aperture library is about 100 Gb in size with 7,700 photos. I run OS X 10.5.3 on my Intel MacBook Pro 17 inch with 6TB of firewire connected disks.
Any help or ideas are very much appreciated.

  • Missing images is Aperture Browser

I have a Project  with muptiple images and a number of them appear only as a grey box in Browser mode, but appear normally in Viewer mode.
On those images that appear as they should, there is a small symbol in the lower right corner with a gray rectangle and arrow pointing up and to right; however, on those with no image in the Browser, the lower right symbol has a yellow triangular (caution?) symbol, with the same arrow pointing up and to right.  This has occurred only in one Project.
I assume something I've done has caused this, but can't figure it out.   Appreciate some help.
    Tenhote

You have referenced masters and some of the masters are missing (as far as Aperture is concerned).
You need to spend some tie witht he manual all this stuff is explained there, See Understanding Badge Overlays
These are the three badges that deal with referenced files:
So now the question is did you realize you had referenced masters?

  • Data and Images in Aperture are a mess

I just bought and started using Aperture, as I was hoping to get a better way to organize my images vs. iPhoto.  However, I'm not sure what is happening in Aperture, but everything is out of whack.  For example:
    1) Aperture is not sorting the images correctly by date (see iPhoto vs. Aperture) (not sure what its doing actually)
Order in iPhoto (correct):  https://www.evernote.com/shard/s15/sh/8c59344a-ad63-46f5-8a88-010016374bfa/75c42 3a7f3ee54dfec6e89f7c72c0f23
Order in Aperture (not correct):  https://www.evernote.com/shard/s15/sh/81c58b92-1307-4932-b224-b652966ea60a/74d37 ba969f0897719c48a7826f0e30a
    2) Aperture is showing the wrong images for various photos.  Note:  Clearly these photos are broken, stretched, just plain wrong
    https://www.evernote.com/shard/s15/sh/81c58b92-1307-4932-b224-b652966ea60a/74d37 ba969f0897719c48a7826f0e30a
    3) Aperture is showing a different photo when the thumbnail is clicked
    https://www.evernote.com/shard/s15/sh/8205f754-1c20-48b7-a2ac-e1967563b0d3/374e4 0a22028e21b78adae7f9e794d68
Note:  This is the first photo shown in iPhoto, and is the correct photo in iPhoto, but its not in Aperture per the Thumbnail.
    4) Aperture is showing the wrong date information
    https://www.evernote.com/shard/s15/sh/c1ca65a4-7276-4734-b3a2-51fd803df86b/a2bd7 61f93844b38fcae0a4243eb4e39
Basically, nothing in Aperture is showing correctly.  How can that be possible?  Any suggestions?

What is your Aperture version? If you just bought it, it will probably be Aperture 3.5.1, but then your profile signature " Mac OS X (10.5.6)" could not be right?
Looking at the examples you posted, it looks to me, like Aperture's sorting by date is correct - at least the images are ordered by the numbers in the file names, and that strongly suggests, that the capture time in the exif tags is in that order.  I don't know any camera that would name the image files with sequence numbers other than ordered by capture time. Then iPhotos order would be out of sequence with respect to the capture time. Or have you adjusted the  "Dare & Time" in iphoto to deviate from the capture times? How did you transfer the photos from iPhoto to Aperture?

If the thumbnails do not correspond to the actual image files, then rebuild the thumbnails of your photos in that project. Select all images in Aperture in the Browser, go to the "Photos" menu in the main menu bar,  and use the command "generate Thumbnails".
After that, you should be better able to judge the ordering of the photos from the thumbnails in the browser.
If receating the thumbnails does not suffice, repair your Aperture libry, and if necessary, rebuild it.
Hold down the ⌥⌘-keys while launching Aperture, and keep holding them firmly, until you see the Aperture Library First Aid panel. Select "repair database"

  • Images rotated in Browser do not appear rotated in Viewer

I have the following problem in Aperture 2.1. I rotate images in the Browser and they appear to rotate just fine, but when loaded into the Viewer the images do not appear rotated. When exported by dragging from the Viewer to the Desktop (or other folder location) the images are not rotated, but when exported via the File>Export>Version command they are rotated.
What gives? Why do the images not appear properly rotated in the Viewer?
    System info:
Macbook Pro Core Duo 2.16 GHz
    2 GB RAM
    Mac OS X 10.5.3

Solved my own problem. Nuked the Aperture preferences and everything seems to be working now.

I am unable to see the images in Aperture trash, though there are a number indicated in the trash.  I have "show all" selected.  What settings am I missing?

You may have an invisible filter on your trash.
Try the "Double Caggiano", as described in Frank Caggiano's User tip:
Images not appearing in browser, search filter is cleared

  • 5DIII images in Aperture have a line at the top

I got my new Canon 5DIII on the weekend and before importing the first lot of images, I updated Aperture as I'd seen the software update announcing support for 5DIII raws.
All images when viewed through Aperture have a thin (possibly 1-pixel wide) line at the top of a landscape image, or to the left or right on a portrait image.  The line is not a single colour, but seems to be made up of a distortion of colours from the image itself.  I can see that the raw images on the disk when viewed through the Finder do not have the line (PHEW!), and the line is not there when I export an image from Aperture.  So, given that it only appears inside Aperture, it's not a huge problem, and I'm certainly happy that it's not the camera, but it's still annoying.  Another point is that the line is not there during that 3-second "Processing" period while it's first looking at a new RAW; it only appears after it's successfully processed it.
Anyone else experienced this, or can someone try it out and look for it?  I'm at work at the moment so can't upload a screenshot, but happy to do so later if required.
    cheers,
    Ian

Top of page - goto "View" then "Toolbars" then tick "Navigation Toolbar" - shud do it

  • How do I hide the stacks badge overlays on images in the browser?

In View > Metadata Display > Show metadata    is off, but the badge (with the number in the stack) is still visible.

    On
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=11%26se ction=9%26tasks=true
    is explained how to show them;
To display badge overlays on images in the Browser in grid view
Do one of the following:The Browser & Viewer Metadata dialog appears.
Choose View > Metadata Display > Customize (or press Command-J).
In the tool strip, choose Edit from the Metadata Overlays pop-up menu.
Choose a Browser Grid View metadata overlay view from the View pop-up menu.
In the Metadata Fields column, click the Aperture disclosure triangle to reveal the metadata fields below it, then select the Badges checkbox.
    Click OK.
Make sure both Show Metadata and the metadata overlay view you just modified are selected for the Browser in the Metadata Overlays pop-up menu in the tool strip.
Badge overlays are now visible in the Browser.
You can turn off the display of badge overlays in the Browser by turning off the display of metadata. For more information, see Turning the Display of Metadata On or Off.
But I don't understand;      In the tool strip, choose Edit from the Metadata Overlays pop-up menu.

  • Distorted images???

I've just restarted aperture today and on the timeline all the thumbnail images that are portrait/upright in shape have distorted. If I click on them they gradually become normal but does anyone know why aperture is doing this and what I can do to get them all back to normal??

I am experiencing distorted images too, but my problem seems to be restricted to just some of the images from one download - all in the same project. I am keen to attempt the suggested solution above (ie generate thumbnails), but since I have just over 210,000 images in this library wonder will this solution work if I just select the photos in the affected project.
    Any advice??

  • Aperture browser behaving oddly

I'm using Aperture 2.1.4 on OS-X 10.6.8.  Recently the Aperture browser has been acting up.  I can only scroll left and right through the browser if I do not have a thumbnail selected.  If I do have an image selected I cannot scroll to other parts of the browser window.  I think the latest update caused this but not sure.  Can't seem to find a mode or "feature" that causes this either.  Help!  Thanks.

How do I re-open an issue?  Since the drive was 3.5 years old I got Disk Warrior and a new drive.  However, DW has found no issues.  DIrectory re-build was fine, and "Check All Files and Folders" was ok as well.  Had Aperture do a consistency check and rebuild the library to no avail.  Same behavior as before.
What is my next step?  I'm now convinced this is not a drive issue.

  • Distorted images in internet explorer, chrome, and firefox

    Hello everyone.
it's my first time writing in a forum.i have just bought a dell notebook inspiron 15 which i upgrated from windows 8 to windows 8.1. (First time working with windows 8.)  i'm having distorted images at some sites, double or blurry either in internet explorer
firefox or chrome. also very often i'm getting an error message that the web page cannot be viewed(in explorer) and in firefox that i should communicate with the web page in order to inform them that . when i refresh the page loads normally..so why does that
happen..is there a problem with the browsers or are the websites outdated?
In addition,  web players other than youtube, like for example JWplayer start playing for a moment and then stop. After refreshing they stop at the same spot. i have the latest update of adobe flash and no problem with my internet connection.
    thank you in advance
    Anna, Greece
p.s i should note that i'm not very used in computer language so a simple explanation will be very welcomed. :)

    Hi,
This pages all display fine in my PC, for IE, you can click Tools\Internet Options\Advanced, then under "Accelerated graphics" enable or disable hardware acceleration to check for hardware or software compatibility issues with viewing certain Internet websites.
Or under "Multimedia", enable automatic image resizing, check the result.
or clear browser history, temporary internet files, tools\internet options\general\delete... or reset IE as a test.
These are solutions for IE, since this issue happend on all browsers, I guess that it might be related with your video card--hardware device, if so, it's recommended to take this pc to a local shop to repair it.

  • Can not view images in Aperture

    Mavens!
I  was editing images in Aperture 3.5.1 ( latest Mavericks / iMAC) and went to add  sharpening using CTRL + S when all the images dissappeared in the viewer.
I can still see the thumbnails - I can export original images etc - I just can't see anything in the viewer - it's grey and blank.
There are NO filters / searches in place (the usual gotcha for hiding images).
Initially I had the feeling I must have mis-queued the keystroke for sharpening and somehow hidden the images in the library. But now I find that all of my libraries have this problem.  Aperture will only display thumbnails and nothing in the viewer.
Coudl this be a "delete plist"  scenario?  Any clues for further invesigation greatly appreacited as I'm stumped.
    Ciao
    Russ

    Hello Kirby
Thank you for yur reply and sorry I have taken so oong to get back to you.  We just had a catergory 2 tropical cyclone cross the coast a few km away - been a little pre-occupied.
That said - the problem has gone away.
During the session where it arose I restarted the system twice and the systems persisted - so I am a little mystified.
And again thank you for reminding of the "try new user account" wrinkle  - obviously the first step for serious troubleshooting.
    Kind regards
    Russell

  • Can't see images in any browser

I cannot see any image in any browser if I use a testing
server. I know the server is configured correctly. This site has
been working fine for the last two months, and now since I tried to
install net web developer express edition 5, the site has been
trashed. I was using asp.net, then went to php ( on IIS),
coldfusion, and now asp. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling
dreamweaver. I ried installin gother browsers. I've tried
everything. It's not in the preferences, I don't know where it is.
But I can see them fine, if I remove the testing server, and just
view the pages locally in the browser.
Can someone please tell me what could be causing this. I've
been working on it none stop for three days, and I'm getting very
frustrated. Last night I wanted to throw this computer across the
room. I have to get this finished. Thanks.
    Jackie

    > But I can see them fine, if I remove the

    browser.
broken mouse- sorry for double post.
guess- the paths to the images are site root relative (start
    with a leading
/slash) and the site's local address is to a subfolder (like
    http://localhost/thissite/ )
    if that's it-
fix one- convert all the paths to document relative.
(the pulldown at the bottom of the "Browse to File" dialog
    box in dw)
also- see the relativity extension here:
    http://www.microwaved.plus.com/dw/
    fix method two-
google on "virtual host" for your type of local server. Then
    you could set
up "fake" local domain name for this site- and use
    http://thissite.local and the site
    root relative paths would work.

  • Photoshop CC distorted image when zoomed out. Text, edges and Straight lines.

I get this distorted image when working on a file. When I zoom in its fine. But as soon as I zoom out all the lines, text , and edges start to become distorted. I've checked that all my drivers are up to date. I've re installed photoshop and still the same thing. Any Suggestions. ( files look fine when saved or exported, this just happens while Im working )

That looks like a Moiré pattern.  Did you scan the image?
If not, can you tell us what operating system?
And is your video card driver fully up to date from the maker's website?

  • How do I set the desktop wallpaper with an image in aperture 3?

Sorry for the silly question, but I can't find how to set my desktop wallpaper with an image in aperture 3. It was simple when using Iphoto, but I can't find the method in aperture.
    Thanks,
    Dale.

Command(⌘)-9 is no longer listed in the list of default keyword shortcuts, and it has no effect.
I wrote a little Automator service to bring the Command(⌘)-9 back.
A copy of this service is here for download:
    http://dreschler-fischer.de/scripts/SetDesktopPicture.workflow.zip
    This service uses three actions:
    Aperture: Get selected images
    Export Masters
    Finder: Set the Desktop Picture
To install it, open the workflow in Automator and save it as service.
To use it, select any image in Aperture, then activate the service from the Aperture menu -> Services, and it will set the master of the selected image as Desktop picture.
If you like, you can assign the Command(⌘)-9 key to the service (in the System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts Panel) and then  turn any image you selected into Desktop wallpaper by simply pressing (⌘)-9.
@Frank Caggiano, if you are still following this thread: for some reason this workflow succeeds with exporting the master, but I could not get it to work with the versions instead. Any ideas?
Caution: this service will clutter the Desktop with the exported images. If you want to avoid that, change the export action to export the image to a different folder.
