Distorted photos when syncing to Vista OS

I'm trying to sync my ipod touch with my jpeg photos on a PC with Vista OS. The photos show up on the ipod, although most are distorted with color streaks going across, different colors, etc.
I've spent a bunch of time trying to fix, and have seen this question numerous times without a solution. In fact, many people have posted answers saying cannot be done - Itunes and Vista incompatible.
The attached article would seem the natural fix, but doesn't help:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306525
I cannot see "readyboost" in Vista since the ipod doesn't show up as an external drive. I'm not sure if that's the actual problem anyway.
It seems like this is indeed a compatibility issue with Vista and Itunes/ipod, i suspect the photos becoming distorted when the photo optimization is taking place, specific to whatever process Vista using via the harddrive (or readyboost)
The reason I believe this to be the case is I can create a simple work around by taking the photos on the PC and burning to a CD. Then I can point itunes to the CD to sync, and the photos are transferred perfectly to the ipod.
This is less than optimal since it takes additional steps that shouldn't be necessary, as well as limits the number of photos that can be synced to the size or a CD or DVD. I guess one can purchase an external hard drive to keep photos and sync, although also not optimal.
Seems like this should be something that the apple engineers would have figured out - I'd imagine a problem with most Vista computers. The apple support people haven't been able to figure it out - I'd imagine there's someone out there who can help.
Does anyone have a step-by-step solution to solve?

So no one has any solutions?
I've actually spoken with a number of people with the exact problem, including my brother who has the iphone and vista photo sync issues (the rainbow disorted colors.)
It's surprising Apple couldn't get their software working properly with the most current OS from Microsoft. Or maybe it isn't - I guess it's a bit harder to design software to work when you're not doing it in a closed system environment.

  • Distorted photos when synced to Ipod touch through I tunes

Does anyone have an answer for this? I tunes synced perfectly with my nano, and now I have purchased an Ipod Touch and it only syncs some of the pics and says some pics and oo1.jpeg could not be supported. I also have windows vista as my op sys

Just to let you all know, I was not on a mac, I am using windows vista, and figured out my own dilemma. You have to make the pics bit maps first and save them to a special bitmap folder and then they transfer beautifully.

  • IPhone wipes out photos when syncing

I think this issue may be connected to the iTunes 8.2 update. Twice now, when I have synced my iPhone it claims that no photos were synced as there was not enough memory for all of them. This in spite of the fact that there was 40MB of space left WITH all the photos on it prior to syncing. Does anyone have an idea about what is causing this? Apple's lack of e-mail customer support is really infuriating.

Sit on the phone with customer support "all day"? You sound like a woman. I bet you use the words always and never often also.
Have you ever called AppleCare? If not, you do not know what you speak. Your original post was posted 2 hours ago. Had you called AppleCare at that time instead, you would have been off the phone long ago and likely would have the problem resolved. But since your time is so valuable, you would rather exchange email instead starting with you explaining the problem, followed by recieving an email maybe with some questions that need to be answered before troubleshooting steps are provided, or with a form letter response that includes troubleshooting steps for you to try. You try the troubleshooting steps provided, which may work but if not, back to exchanging email. Sounds like a great time saver, for someone who has no experience whatsoever with calling AppleCare.
The handful of times I have called AppleCare, I wasn't on hold for more than 5 minutes, and I was off the phone in less than 30 minutes with an answer or the problem resolved. Certainly not "all day", which my GF sometimes uses when she is whining about something.
Call, I mean email Dell Technical support and ask if they recommend using 99% of your hard drive's storage capacity, or if using over 90% is recommended. I'll bet you dollars to donuts they won't recommend it since data loss is very likely when doing so, and it affects performance.
The iPhone runs an optimized version of OS X, and has RAM, a limited amount of RAM. OS X makes use of RAM dynamically, but the optimized version of OS X with the iPhone doesn't seem to do this as well as the full OS X version on a Mac. Possible that the optimized version of OS X makes use of a RAM disk when the RAM has been depleted.

  • Preventing iTunes from 'optimising' photos when syncing - how?

The optimisation process lowers the image quality by a fair margin. This is especially obvious for images that are very long or very tall, to the point where the image becomes a blurry mess.
Therefore, I wish to disable this 'optimisation' process, allowing my photos to sync completely untouched. Or at least be able specify the quality when I sync photos to my iPhone. But I can't seem to find an option anywhere on iTunes.
After all, most of my images are of .png format, which I believe the iPhone supports, so there really is no need for any conversion whatsoever.

    Oh...
Thanks, anyway. I'll try copying the images directly to the image folder with an iPhone file manager to see if that works.

  • Distorted photos after syncing using windows vista

i've been trying to correct a issue that i have, everytime i sync a photo from my pictures folder, it comes out all distorted on my iphone. i even try syncing photos taken from my iphone folder to the iphone again anf it comes out distorted. ive called apple nd they said the have no idea what is causing that. any answers would help....... i was reading on readyboost, possibly it might work if i purchase it, but i dont want to waste my money if i have no guarantee that it will solve my problem.........

/// i actually solved my issue with having distored photos. windows vista uses a different type of driver other than FAT32 which is used on older windows, apple does not properly support that type of driver. so i did some research on readyboost, it enhances your memory which would probally fix the issue but quite expensive. so i transfered all my pictures from my c:/ hardrive to an external SD card.. i synced form the memory card and it fixed my issue. ///
I've had problems with importing pics from vista to my iphone since day 1. Distorted pics...missing pics...and pics not syncing at all. So I saved all my pics on a memory stick as per dude above and it all synced perfectly. Now why did this work? i have no clue but thank you very much bud.

  • Distorting photos when uploaded

In iPhoto, I use an external editor (Pixelmator) to edit my photos. When I crop photos and then save the original document it goes into iPhoto. But then, when I upload, and I've tried with Facebook + Flickr, it is completely stretched / distorted. I think that it is the same dimensions as the uncropped photo but the cropped photo is being shown all stretched. It doesn't do it if I upload the same file through the Facebook website.
How can I stop this from happening?
    Thanks in advance,
    Josh

Have you tried using Pixelmator as the external editor from inside iPhoto?  The following explais how (Note:  you would use Pixelmator just like you would PS or PSE as far as how you save the edited version, i.e. with the same extension/format and file name):
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Stop deleting photos when syncing

Is there a way to add photos from a PC to the IPad with out deleting what is already on the IPad I have well over 2000 photos that I added in one go took hours, now it seems to want to delete all before I add more.

When you tell iTunes to sync photos (from the Photos tab you get when you click on your iPad), it gives the choice of selecting a folder on your computer to sync with. Just make sure all the photos you put on your iPad previously are in that folder. Then just add whatever new photos you want on your iPad to that folder. When it syncs, all photos already there will stay there while the new ones are added. I know it gives that scary, "All photos on your iPad will be replaced..." thing, but it's ok as long as all the photos you want on your iPad are in the folder on your computer that you sync to.
You couldn't have put those photos on your iPad without a sync, unless you manually emailed them to yourself or something, in which case they'd be in the Saved Photos album not the Photo Library album which can only be managed through a sync using iTunes. So you must have done that at least once before. However, syncing photos, even a lot of them, shouldn't take that long. What does take a long time is that iPad backup that syncing also does. However, if you want to just skip that and go right to the syncing, just click the little x to the right of the "backing up iPad" message and the backup will abort and you'll go right into the syncing only. Also, remember that syncing photos only affects photos in your Photo Library album. Photos in the other Saved Photos album are unaffected by the sync process.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPhoto - can't choose iPhoto as a folder to copy photos when syncing with iPhone 6

I just updated my iTunes because I just got the new iPhone 6. When I connected my phone I was asked to create a name for a folder to copy photos from. I didn't know what I was doing to I named it pictures. I don't know how to just choose iPhoto for the place to choose photos from for syncing. What did I do and how can I fix it? Anyone??

    Hello Kat2007,
If I understand correctly you are needing to sync your iPhoto images from your Mac to your iPhone. You should be able to select iPhoto from the drop down menu at the top of the photos tab in iTunes when you have your device connected:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • How to prevent duplicate photos when sync

I have videos and pictures that I want to keep on my phone, however when I sync to nokia suite it will sync the same photos over and over. anyway to prevent this, or do I have to delete them from phone. Also,  same thing with duplicate contacts.
What is the best way to transfer photos from Nokia suite to disc, or memory card. I have a ton of photos on Nokia suite and want to transfer them to a disc or memory card.

Create a new folder on your desktop, download the picture files from the CD's, delete the duplicates.
As I see it, you now have 2 options:
Burn new CD's or a DVD from the desktop folder as your source, and use the  Editor & Organizer - or
Use Editor & Organizer, using the desktop folder directly
Suggest that you stick to one of these options for this group of photos so as not to confuse the path in Organizer.

  • Transferring photos when syncing to new hard drive

I  recently had to restore my hard drive and while i have all of my contacts and i tunes backed up i have a lot of photos that had not been backed up. is there anyway to transfer them to the computer before i sync the iphone and it wipes everything?

If the photos are in the Camera Roll on the phone you can import them to the computer as follows: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
If the photos in question are ones that were moved from the computer to the phone via a previous iTunes sync there is not a standard way to do that but there may be a third party app that will.

  • HT4236 deleted photos when syncing Ipod touch

My son attempted to sync his Itouch to his macbook pro and lost all pictures.  Apple store stated "..they were gone because the ipod synced before downloading."  I cannot believe that is the answer.  In researching I see there there is some software to recover but I am unsure how to begin the process will it work? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

    For overcapacity:
    - First verify that yo are not syncing more media than you think
    - Next:
Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • Photos loaded directly onto ipad air do not show up on PC anywhere when synced using itunes

Photos loaded directly onto ipad air using Apple camera connection kit, do not show up on PC anywhere when synced using itunes

They won't show in iTunes (iTunes is only used to copy photos to a device, not copy them off), but you should be able to copy them off either manually via My Computer (the iPad should show as a camera) or via windows camera wizard or windows live photo gallery depending upon your OS version.

  • How do i remove photo albums from Iphone that appear when syncing which I cannot prevent

Iphone 4.  just synced with laptop and to my horror now have every photo from laptop in albums on my phone which i cannot remove.  Have gone back into sync mode and it wont let me access the albums on phone to delete.  Such ridiculous situation not to be able to delete by choice on phone.  Sync only repeats the process.  Not a happy iphone user.  Can anyone help and suggest a simple way to remove the albums.  Also what to do when syncing to avoid happening again. When syncing,  I dont seem to be able to access my iphone or chose what sync processes i want as the sync only happens as one process including the photos.  Is this a fault??  Cannot believe Apple would make this such a difficult process.  Help appreciated.

Thanks but it wont let me choose and once the albums on iphone it wont let me remove..... any more thoughts??
