Whenever I try to change the volume (increase or decrease) the sound becomes all distorted and "fuzzy" if you know what I mean. I am running windows 7 64 Bit on a HP HDX18-1201EA. Any help is really aprreciated.
Thanks

Same issue here.  Happens everytime I adjust the volume on the keyboard or straight from the control panel.  Very annoying....anyone have a solution?

  • Distorted sounds in Windows 7 32 bit

    Hi...
I re-installed my system with (Dutch) Windows 7 32 bit and used the "Vista" driver CD for my SB X-fi Music card.
When I play MP3 or WAV files, the quality is reasonable, however, some sounds, specially vocals, are damped by the bass-tones.
When I play a CD in my Plextor 80SA dvd drive, I get a very distorted sound.
Doesn't matter if it is a burned CD or a original CD from the music store.
I think that the output from my DVD dri've is to high, but I don't know where I can change the output level.
Also tried the latest updated drivers for the X-fi card, but that has no change in the sounds, cd's are still distorted and basstones in MP3 and WAV damp the vocals and other instruments.
Don't know what to do...please, someone with advise?
    Grtz.

Using earphones, the same thing happens, the bass tones dampen other sounds.
I tested the speakers with the Creative Diagnostics application and there seems to be nothing wrong with them, even when I pump up the volume to 80 or 90% of the max volume there is no distortion at all in the speaker system.
I have ripped a CD and played the saved MP3 or WAV?files, they do the same as downloaded MP3 WAV files, bass tones dampen the other sounds. Sometimes the first two or three songs played, are all fine but then it slowly starts to happen... In other occasions, it happens immedaitely.
I have two identical dvd drives in my system (running on Windows 7 Ultimate) and used the second (hardly used) spare drive, also a Plextor 80SA, to play a legal bought CD and this one gives distorted sounds too! Volume doen't matter, by the way, distortion is also present on low volumes.
I must add to this that, when I was running Windows XP Professional with SP3 on my system, none of the above happened... It all started after re-installing my system with Windows 7 Ultimate.

  • Distorted sound on iMac with Windows 7

    Hi,
I've just upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium.
Before the sound worked perfect, but now it is very distorted.
When I mute windows I can still hear sound - it is just a bit more distorted and at a bit lower volume.
I tried to upgrade the sound card driver from Realtek, but lost sound completely. I reinstalled the Apple driver and now I have distorted sound again.
I'm running Boot Camp 3.1 drivers.
Does any one know how to solve this problem?
    /Tejs

Can you find out which drivers you currently have for me please.
go to Start >> right click Computer >> System Properties >> System >> Device Manager
Now open up the sound, video and game controllers section and there should be something correlating to your sound driver here, if you could give me the name or the driver name if possible.
also what iMac model are you running.

  • Sound distorted after upgrade to windows 10

sound playing is generalldistorted after upgrade to windows 10 pro. Individual sound elements in windows sound scheme seem to be OK.

Yup, you're not the only one with audio problems. I have a HP Split X2 also, my model is the m121-sa. The problem is that the company that makes the audio chips is IDT which has been sold to a new company called Tempo Semi Conductors (This has been done in early 2014). The new company will have to provide new Windows 10 drivers to support our audio chips, whilst they have made Windows 10 drivers for their newer chips; our old ones has no current drivers made officially for Windows 10. Microsoft are aware of this problem and will not be making any drivers - their solution is to use the Microsoft drivers by unistalling the driver through device manager and updating the driver to the Microsoft High Definition ones. The problem with the HP Split is that you loose beats audio and the audio is quiet, but it works on all apps. NEITHER HP OR MICROSOFT WILL PROVIDE A DRIVER That is above the IDT .6499. It is upto Tempo Semi Conductors to do this and they don't provide end user drivers but OEM's like HP. The problem only lies with metro apps, win32 apps such as Chrome has audio working... If you are having problems with the audio being quiet with the HP Windows 8 drivers (IDT), use the following settings. (though, I think my laptop is defective, but my warranty is gone so, I just turn up the treble - even though it sounds high pitched)  On a side note, my other laptop (Toshiba) have been good by providing drivers for all components - Hopefully, Tempo do provide support for IDT as not only HP but other companies also use this chip. By the way, do you problems with start menu being black and blurrly text? For some reason, Windows 8 drivers don't do this but Intel Windows 10 drivers do this. Miracast also only works on the .37 driver and not the newest Windows 10 driver; will need to test this further. Yes there are new TEMPO drivers, but these again  are for the new chips and not our old ones. It didn't work on my HP Split but you can try them below: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71717.html - notes for new driver 6.10.6504.0 http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501.exe - setup 6.10.6504.0 (64 BIT ONLY; WILL NOT WORK ON 32BIT) 32bit driver is 6.10.6503.0 EDIT: HP seems to be deleting my images. Not sure why.

  • NB520-108: Distorted sound on full screen video

    Hi there,
I have a harman / kardon nb520-108 (I hope i have the right forum!) and when I maximise the screen on say youtube or iplayer I get a distorted sound.
I have read somewhere that the bios needs an update but i'd need confirmation of that if it is as the secondary effect is that it means an install of the sound system.
Any ideas what this could be?
    thanks in advance,
    alex

The Toshiba software that came pre-installed should warn you if you have all your drivers up-to-date. In any case, you should always update them. Also make sure Windows Updates hasn't installed a different sound driver for you, if it did, just uninstall that one and install the one provided by Toshiba.
If that doesn't solve it, tell me what browser you are using and what version of Flash you have currently installed. Update both.

  • Distorted sound (after updating to SP2) (Audigy 4)

    Hello!
last week I updated my Vista Home Premium x64 to Service Pack 2 (swedish), and immideatly i started having trouble with my sound (as I understand it, SP2 updates some kind of internal audio driver or something like that). The sound was slighty distorted. noticeable in general windows tasking and watching YouTube, extremely noticealbe and annoying when playing games. hard to explain, almost like extremely low quality, and a little "tinny", as if it was being played inside a tin can.
I downloaded the then-latest drivers, which at first gave me no sound at all. I uninstalled the drivers, used DriverCleaner to remove all traces, then installed the drivers again. Problem fixed, until I rebooted. the problem comes and go, perfect when I start a game, half an hour later something triggers the crappy quality. On the 4th of July I noticed there was a new set of drivers. I installed them, but it didn't get any better. the problem still comes and goes.
the drivers I have tested are
    SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00
    SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000
(plus the drivers I had installed before, can't remember version number)
I've also tried various quality settings in the "Sound Options" (Control Panel/Sound) for Windows, and have tried disabling all Enhancements.
I have also installed two different version of Alchemy, as well as tried without it.
When I installed the card it was still the year 2005, is it possible the card has simply run its course? The problem started as soon as I booted with Service Pack 2, so it seems to be a software problem rather than the hardware.
    any ideas?

  • Sound was fine but now distorted (sounds overdriven and clipped) on g7-1075dx

the same thing is hapening to be only had my laptop for a month. I plugged in speakers and it was fine, when i took the speakers out the sound is now distored and static from time to time, also one speaker is louder then the other, dont know if thats suppose to be like that.

  • Distorted sound in CQ-45 137tx

Hi there, hear some distorted noise while playing music or videos in my laptop. This sound prevails in both Vista Home Basic x86 ( Previous os) and Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Current OS). The sound comes in both the speakers and the headphones. I have updated the audio drivers (i.e latest driver from hp, and updated using windows optional updates)
I kindly request you to give me a solution for this! Thank you in Advance. Prompt reply awaited!

    Hi there,
As per boosting your bass try this method listed here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/5668647-post3614.html
Its for a different HP model but its practically the same..
Also in addition to above try going into IDT Audio Control Panel and making sure all the  volume sliders including for headphones are on max
Regarding disabling power management, thats very interesting it might be the solution to the problem.. it might if it somehow lowers your speaker power during playback, please let me know if this fixes it as I have the same issue of distorted audio though doing some steps ilke above have decreased how occasional it is..I'll try it too i guess hehe
The only downside I see is well it'll certainly drain more battery power as audio will now use as much power I guess needed to play music etc.
Update: On my power management i have both Basic Power Management and Advanced Power Management however I didn't access it though any customize tab (I didn't see one?), i accessed it through IDT Audio Control Panel -> Preferences tab up top -> On the left Settings then underneath it General. Also for description under Advanced Power Management it states "Notice: PC Beep will be disabled while this feature is in use. Small but audible clicks and pops may be present while this feature is in use" meaning this could be the culprit for your distorted sound

  • Distorted sound from some CDs on Pavillion dv6

Approx 5% of my CDs have a distorted sound and are unlistenable. It is nothing wrong with the CDs, they play alright in my Lenevo T61 or McBook Air. The CDs are both new and old. It is the same using iTunes or Windows Media Player. Anyone experienced this and is there any solution?

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the links below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if your CDs sound ok now.
If they don't, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this, again not deleting drivers if asked. Then open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Reboot the PC and let Windows reinstall the devices.  Check the sound from your CDs again.
If it still doesn't sound ok, run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if your CDs now sound ok.
    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,

  • I see a distortion icon image in Windows 8.1 but not in windows 8

I saw distorted icon image in windows 8.1 but not in Windows 8. This bug doesn't affect Windows 8.1 functionality but causes some icons to look ugly, distorted, fuzzy. This bug can be seen in "Delete confirmation dialog box". The
folder icon in delete confirmation dialog box will look distorted and ugly. Black edges will appear around the icon and the icon will not look correct. The same thing also happens in "Send To" menu.
Also heard that this bug is not related to graphics card driver or any other thing.
Hope windows will take necessary actions to solve this bug as soon as possible so that users like us can be satisfied with the new windows 8.1.

  • Distorted sound on M30-604

    Hi,
I have got a problem with the sound on my Satellite M30-604. If for instant I play a cd or an mp3 (doesnt matter with what program), the sound is distorted. It sounds a bit like back in the old days when my taperecorder got jammed. After a while the sound disappears completely and I get bad sound driver errors. When I restart the notebook, the sound again works fine for a while, but then the problem repeats itself. This temporary regeneration only happens when I restart and does happen when I put the notebook in sleeping mode or standby mode for a while. The sounddriver in my notebook is the SigmaTel C-Major Audio version 6.14.1.3835, it should be the latest version. Can anybody help me with this problem? At the moment I am not even shure whether it is a hardware or a software problem. Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve
I hope that there is some solution that will help you. Did you already try to make BIOS update? It will be interesting to know what you mean exactly under distorted sound. A friend of mine had a similar problem and the cause for that was modem. Sounds stupid but everything is possible.
Like I said if the sound is slowed it can be some hardware mailfunction.
