Distorted sound on iMac with Windows 7

Hi,
I've just upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium.
Before the sound worked perfect, but now it is very distorted.
When I mute windows I can still hear sound - it is just a bit more distorted and at a bit lower volume.
I tried to upgrade the sound card driver from Realtek, but lost sound completely. I reinstalled the Apple driver and now I have distorted sound again.
I'm running Boot Camp 3.1 drivers.
Does any one know how to solve this problem?

Can you find out which drivers you currently have for me please.
go to Start >> right click Computer >> System Properties >> System >> Device Manager
Now open up the sound, video and game controllers section and there should be something correlating to your sound driver here, if you could give me the name or the driver name if possible.
also what iMac model are you running.

When i now had recieve a brand new 27" imac, i had a 3 year old model 27" imac which my daugter want to have BUT i should be as a clean Windows thing -
so how to change the computer to a clean windows 8 computer with no apple programs in and no Maverick or other lovely programs?
I had seen on the net that a lot of peoble had windows with bootcamp - i am not a computer tecnician and when i try - i end op with a machine with could nothing - no mac programs - no office pack - no adobe programs - so i had to start op again with a new harddisk.
Some of the problem is that i dont understand the thing which bin told when you go to bootcamp for a user of mac's since the model was the "classic" and we make newspapers on them - so i want and easy way to have and mac computer for my self (the new one) and let my daugter have a beutiful imac with windows on.
dont begin talking about parrelles i had try that, results it had a windows 7 which cant be updated, apple dont support that and microsoft doesnt so - help me

If you don't want Boot Camp and you don't want a virtual machine, go buy a Windows computer.
Both Boot Camped Windows and Windows running in a virtual machine work well. Your issues are because of your lack of knowledge or understanding, not because Boot Camp and virtual machines are poor products. Universities, large and small businesses, home users, etc. use virtual machines to run their operating systems.
Your statements about Boot Camp and Parallels are not the experience of thousands of users.
Either find someone who is knowledgeable about running Windows on Apple computers to help you or buy a Windows computer. Believe me, if you find a way to install only Windows on your Apple computer without using Boot Camp or a virtual machine you will have more problems than what you have already experienced.

No sound on HDMI with Windows 7 om Mac Mini 2010

Hi,
i've installed bootcamp (windows 7 64 bit) on a new mac mini. When I turn on power an boot windows there's no sound over HDMI. The windows device manager says that everything is working properly.
Then I boot mac os and HDMI sound works fine in mac os. Then booting windows again HDMI sound is working in windows too. But when I turn of the mac and turn it on again booting windows sound is missing again.
Any suggestions? I updated to the latest nvidia hdmi audio driver without success.

Found a workaround: The problem is not the NVidia HDMI audio driver but the Microsoft HD audio driver / device. If you have no sound over HDMI with your Mac Mini you have to
1) Find out the hardware ID of the Microsoft HD Audio Device:
* windows device manager -> system devices -> High definition audio controller
* right mouseclick -> device properties -> Details -> select HardwareID
2) Use the devcon command line utility to disable and enable the device:
devcon disable "HardwareID"
devcon enable "HardwareID"
And you will have HDMI sound again.

Will my new sound card work with windows 7 64 bit??

I had creative sound blaster xtreme music, it use the old pci port. It has been giving problems ever since i got a new computer with windows 7 and a gigabyte mother board. The computer will sometimes not detect the car, when it does i will work for a while then a beeping sound plays, or sometimes i wont have sound at all when it is detected. Anyway, I am upgrading to the PCI-express xfi champion card. Is this card going to work with windows? 7 and not give me though problems?

Radeon HD-5870

It will work,as I have one on Win 7 x64. Without problems is another story.
There are plenty of posts about this card.Have a look around.

IMac with windows 7 issue

I am setting up an iMac with win7 and it came with magic mouse and wireless keyboard. But for some reason I cant connect the magic mouse and the keyboard to the iMac when is using windows. Also other people facing this issue. Anyone know the solution?

And you burned the drivers disk and used it to install the drivers in your Windows partition?

Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.

Why does the New iMac 27" with SSD 768GB / bootcamp / runs only with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit and not with 64bit?

It's the inverse. The Late 2012 iMac is only compatible with 64-bit Windows versions in Boot Camp. The main reason is the memory: the iMac comes with 8 GB of memory, and a 32-bit Windows version can only detect 4 GB or less. Also, it's time to upgrade to 64-bit operating systems, that works with both 32 and 64-bit applications.
If you want to use a 32-bit Windows version, the only solution is to install Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, and install Windows in a virtual machine

No sound using bootcamp with windows 10 and yosemite

Hi,
I've just installed Windows 10 preview on my iMac Retina with Yosemite. Everything works great but, I have no sound when using windows, I do have sound when on Yosemite. I've looked and still haven't found a working solution, any help would be appreciated?

No it's still there. It's coming from my iMac speakers only on the windows side. But if I play music through YouTube I hear the music through the headphone jack external speakers. But that **** sound won't go away. Did a repair lost all my sounds again. Just did another repair and that sound came back.
I went into sounds and turned them off and the sound went away...I listened to every sound there before I turned it off and none of them sounded like the sound I was getting. At least I can still hear my music through external speakers. I'm totally confused. Hopefully you'll have more for me?

Compaq Presario R3000 how to get the sound to work with Windows 7 RC

1) Download SP29586.exe: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp29501-30000/sp29586.exe
2) Run it, Create a directory c:\ swsetup
3) Once all the Files are extracted DO NOT INSTALL
4) Now Goto the Start Menu Click on Devices and Printers, the Click on the Name you have called your machine this will be marked will a yellow triangle as the sound driver windows 7 has install already is a realtek ac 97 which is not working,
5) Once your Machinename you will see a general tab and and hardware tab select the hardware tab.
6) Look for the Realtek ac 97 under the Device functions, select that and click properties,
7) Now tab to the Driver, now click update driver,
8) Select the option let me pick from a list of devices drivers, now click have disk
9) Click on Browse select the following location Swsetup\SP29586\SMAXWDM\W2K_XP and click on smwdmCH6.inf
10)Now the Soundmax Driver should come up select ok and next. Now your Sound will work

I am basicaly having the same problem with my labtop. I tried the following above and yet I still have not been able to get my sound to work. I have had some problems with my power and sound cards before but after I reinstalled windows my graphics card and sound card have not been working to their full potential. I thaught that it was a 64 bit graphics card, but now I am not so sure. I had to jostle the power cord in the back till I mannaged to find a perfect spot to keep the computer running. Before the reinstallation I had to put pressure on the left side of the computer to get the sound to work.. but even then it still came in and out.. "The sound that is." I can see the same driver in the codex menue and it is yellow but, what you stated above did not work.
It says (Cannot continue the hardware update) The wizard cannot find a better match for your hardware than the software that you curently have installed. and then tells me to keep the current software. My sound Icon does not show up when I go to the settings.... I can't play diablo 2 on this no idea why... But my screen is choppy when I scroll through internet sites and it did not do that before. I have a 400mbs connection .... here is my computer information. :Compaq Presario R3000 Intel pent4 2.80ghz 2.80ghz 1.12GB ram and im running on windows xp2 professional.

I have been scouring the forums to find something that will help me, but I have yet to find anything that works.
Here is my problem:
I recently installed Windows 7 64-bit using bootcamp on my (Late 2013) 27" iMac. I have the latest drivers for both OSX and Windows 7, and I used bootcamp 5 to install them. But I have NO AUDIO whatsoever, and I can't seem to find anywhere what audio controller I actually have. I tried using a bluetooth headset as a work around, but windows couldn't find any drivers to install it. It's supposed to be "plug and play", at least wireless and play. No drivers should be needed. This makes me think that I'm missing any audio drivers at all, and I have no idea how to fix this with the very little info I have on what's actually inside my mac. Any help with this would be great. It's getting very frustrating.

have you tried looking in devices under windows?
unrecoqnized devices should have a yellow !

It appears that your iMac shipped with OS X 10.6.6 which came on disc. If you have the original grey discs put disc 1 into the superdrive and restart while holding the C key. Choose your language and at the next screen from the menu bar select Disk Utility. Erase and reformat the hard drive and be sure to select Mac OS extended journaled and for the format select GUID partition scheme. Quit Disk Utility and go back to the installer screen and install OS X. Whenit's done run software update to get to 10.6.8 then access the Mac App Store and you can upgrade to Mavericks if you choose.
If you don't have the discs you can use Internet Recovery IF the firmware was upgraded to allow it before someone erased the Mac partition and installed windows. If the firmware wasn't upgraded you'll need to contact Apple and get a set of original install discs.

Distorted sound using headphones with my iPhone 4

Hello,
I have a strange and very annoing problem that I am currently experiencing with my iPhone 4.
Basically I have a problem where when I insert my Headphones (The Genuine Apple Headphones with Mic) into the iPhone 4, every now and then I hear popping sounds and this also happens when I unplug the Headphones from the phone too. The major problem with this is that when I listen to music the Bass effects seem very distorted, to the point of which you have to turn the music up so loud to fix the problem that it deafens you. If you turn the music down low then all you can hear is a very deep bass kind of sound.
This problem doesnt just happen with music, its with whatever sound I play (whether from a video on YouTube, or saved on my phone, to Music on my iPhone and sounds on the iPhone itself.).
I cant tell if the iPhone speakers themselves are distorted however I dont think they are, I have listened to music through the speakers on the phone and they seem to be all OK, although I havent done any proper testing, this problem only occurs with using Headphones.
I have tried a restore in iTunes and this has not helped. The iPhone is running the latest and greatest system from Apple, in my case as I am writing this it is iOS 5.1.1.
The iPhone has had a service just recently as the iPhone's home button was not working, but it was fine after that. I have not dropped the phone either.

Could you clean the connector with cotton swab?I fear there is debris in the connector.
If it is the same,I think it should be open for major repair.

IMAC with windows XP on it as well Tiger, won't run mac after 10.4.8 instal

My wifes IMAC, which we also partioned and installed windows XP, will not allow us to restart the Mac side. This just started this morning after she installed the upgrade from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8. When you restart the computer and hold down the ALT key you will get the option of going into either the mac side or the windows side. Now when we select the MAC side we get an error message telling us to hold down the power key to reboot the computer. This ends up doing nothing to fix the problem. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Michael, my guess is that you've installed a third party utility to modify the OS in some way, and it's broken. We've seen, for example, people who installed utilities that were supposed to improve network operation unable to get reliable network connections as a result.
There's a utility that can remove unnecessary components from the OS. Unless used with caution, it can kill Rosetta.
Haxies can break after an OS update. That's not Apple's fault, and it's a reason I don't install haxies such as Shape Shifter, for example.
Does this happen with other PPC applications that have to run under Rosetta?
What to do: If you've installed third party utilities that modify OS functions, remove them one at a time and restart. Try Entourage after each restart.
BTW I don't suspect smcFanControl as the culprit.

Soundcard broken? noise/distorted sound in headphonejack with no relation to played audio

Sitting on a HP 625, a month ago or so I started experiencing this weird noise when the headphonejack is used, no matter what is connected (soundsystem, headphones etc). The sound starts off like a low hz distortion and gains to a very high pitched, cutting, unpleasant sound. This takes app 2-5 seconds and then totally disappears for a while until it comes again. It doesnt really matter if im playing something, the sound comes on at all times.
Would be amazingly thankful if anyone with knowledge of this problem and its solution would help.

Networking iMac with Windows 8.1

I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. I have successfully networked both iMac machines with my wife's Windows 8.1 laptop and can successfully share files between all three computers with only one exception.........The Windows 8.1 machine WILL ALLOW BOTH IMACS TO ACCESS FILES ON IT BUT IT WILL NOT CONNECT TO MY WIFE'S IMAC TO SHARE THE iMAC FILES ON THE PC. Even though both iMacs show up in the PC workgroup, when she tries to connect to her iMac it always returns the error "cannot connect, bad stub" . Any ideas?

I would try opening File Explorer on Win8.1 and entering the path to a shared folder on the iMac in the address bar. For example
\\iMacName\Downloads
When you press enter a window should appear asking for credentials. Enter the wife's account name and password. This will either connect to the Downloads folder or fail with an error. So what happens?
