Distortion after bouncing

I have experienced this with a bunch of different songs:
There is no distortion at any stage in the recording/mixing/listening of the track. Kick drums are clear and punchy, highs are well defined and not too harsh, mids are nicely balanced. When I bounce the track, seemingly regardless of whether I go to wav, mp4, or mp3, there is suddenly distortion. It usually registers in the piano or kick drum and is quite grating most of the time.
Any clue what causes this and where I am going wrong?

Okay, Andrew and Beejay - I tried both of your ideas and here are my findings:
1. Andrew, I leveled out all of the EQ within Itunes and still heard the same distortion. The distortion was less "boosted" definitely, but the same quality of sound was inherent.
2. Andrew, I didn't re-import it to Logic so the effects on the output channel aren't affecting this issue (at least not this time!) but that is something I will definitely keep in mind.
3. Beejay, when I loaded the file into soundtrack pro there was no clipping, it sounded fine, and all of my audio interface controls were set the same. I also tried loading the itunes MP4 file into soundtrack pro (the same one that is distorting in playback from itunes) and it didn't distort in soundtrack pro! I took it a step further and opened the same file in quicktime and did not experience the same distortion. Then I re-opened the same file again, and reimported it into itunes, and the distortion isn't as bad, but still present.
Is there some setting in Itunes that might cause this to happen?

Usually the sound should be much better using this tool. I can really not explain why this happen. Try to reinstall sound driver.
The unit is delivered with WXP Home and I assume that you try to install your own OS, probably professional edition. All drivers and tools should work properly with WXP professional too. Please check the installation instructions that can be also downloaded from Toshiba download site (http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/Satellite/sa80/win-xp/install-xp-na.zip). All this stuff must be installed in particular order.

Screen distortion after upgrading to mavericks os

I own a late 2011 MBP 13". Last week I upgraded to Mavericks and regret it ever since. Firstly, it's become unbelievably slow. Secondly, and most importantly my screen resolution is now distorted and completely messed up. Immediately I suspected if Mavericks had screwed some setting. So I looked up Google for screen distortion after upgrading to Mavericks. The results were surprising! There are many apple discussions going on about the same thing. After reading most of them, as suggested in almost all threads, I took my laptop to the service station. The initial response given to me was that they suspected a hardware issue. All threads had indicated what to expect so I was not surprised. I explained to them clearly that there are discussions revolving around this topic and many users have been affected because of this. I even showed / shared the links of the various discussions on this topic. The service station in India asked for more time to investigate further. In the mean time I contacted the Indian call centre to report this problem. The service station reverted after their investigation that my logic board was corrupted and needed replacement. Phew!!! The cost of replacement is as good as buying a new MBP. It's really amusing because my MBP is less that 2 years old and unfortunately I do not have extended warranty.
Has anyone facing the same issue been able to convince apple that this is a mavericks issue? Does even apple recognize this as an issue in the first place? Does apple expect people to blindly invest in hardware just because they have released a new OS?

Please Any ideas why it can't resolve service name anymore after bouncing the repository?

Below is the error that i am getting when trying to startup all the services.Please let me know where i am going wrong with this,everything was working fine until i shutdown(sqlplus) the repository to test if it still resolve the name and then i restarted the repository using sqlpus and its failing to resolve the names so i had to stopped everything with below command and when starting it with opmnctl startall it failed with the below error.

Abnormal errors after bounce in 12.1.3 using Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.1

1. After bounce of one of our dev instance and opening forms did'nt see menu for system administrator (like 1. OAM 2. Coucurrent 3. Profile .........)
and getting error left hand below --- ###FRM - 40735: WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE triger raised unhandeled exceeption ORA- 06502###
But as soon as after clicking SWITCH RESPONSIBILITY we are able to see the menu options
2. In the same terminal if we are submitting any request (e.g active users) getting message like "##FRM 40400: Transaction complete : 1 records applied and saved##')
But when we click on find tab we are getting below error
##FRM-40350: Query caused no records to be retrieved###
Please help in this.

Perfect audio in FCPX timeline, distorted after export to QuickTime mov

Anyone experiencing distorted audio with a QuickTime movie file exported from Final Cut Pro X? The audio sounds great in the timeline, but muffled and distorted after exporting it. Here's the kicker, I took that same file and opened it using QuickTime 7 and the audio is fine. I took that same file and converted it to a WMV file using Flip Player, and the audio is fine. So it would seem that the problem is the newest version of QuickTime (v10.4). If any of you have come to a similar conclusion, is there a way to remedy this? It's problematic because when I upload the file to YouTube, the distortion is present. Thanks in advance to everyone who can assist with this.

Here are the steps I use to export:
From the File menu, I select 'Share' and select 'Master File'
In the pop-up dialog box I click on 'Settings' and select 'H264' as the CODEC
I open the rendered file with QuickTime Player and the audio is distorted.
I open the rendered file with QuickTime Player 7 and the audio is fine
I convert the exported file to a WMV file using Pro version of Flip Player. The audio in the resulting file is fine.
I'm no expert but this would on the outset appear to be a problem with QuickTime v10.4. I can't seem to find a way to resolve this. Thank you for your assistance.
FYI - the audio file for the project is pulled in to FCPX as an mp3 directly from the iTunes library via the 'Music and Sound' browser.

No AAC file after bouncing in Logic 8.0.2

I'm not getting any AAC files now after bouncing in Logic 8.0.2 (or, at least not all the time!....never used to fail me..... now, it's hit or miss.) All other formats work fine in bouncing.
When bouncing, Logic goes through all the motions, but there is no AAC file at the end. Just 2 files in the trash.
Any ideas?.....Is this a mono file vs. stereo file problem? another thing?
Should I fix permissions? etc

You do not mention the bounce window, which is THE place to tell Logic you want an AAC file. So... have you checked that the option was actually activated when you bounce?
AIF or WAV, but no AAC:

Some Ringtones Distorted After Upgrading to IOS 5

Has anyone else noticed that some of the ringtones sound distorted after upgrading to IOS 5? For example, Sherwood Forest is one of those ringtones. Please let me know if you have experience the same and what workaround, if any, has worked for you?

Okay, mine now works here is what I did.
plug in the iPhone, iPad etc
in iTunes select the phone or iPad
Under Summary uncheck "Sync with this....."
Under "Music" uncheck the "Sync Music"
Sync
Let it remove all the songs, dont worry it will come back no problems.
Once that is all done all the music on the phone or ipad should be gone.
Now check them both back on, sync, and everything should copy back onto it.
Working now !!!!!

Changes made with dbms_macadm.UPDATE_RULE_SET are lost after bounce db

We have Oracle Database 11.2.0.1 with Database Vault functioning ok but we need to change two rule sets.
We modify the rule sets with dvsys.dbms_macadm.UPDATE_RULE_SET and the change was applied immediately.
After bounce the database the changes were lost and we have to applied again.
Specifically we want to change a rule set from no static to static so we run the following commands:

That was actually the first place I started when I began troubleshooting this issue.
I have logged in as the root user and attempted to check the "allow user to administer this computer" to the affected user. In fact, I tried it on all users that show up in the Accounts listing.
What happens is, the checkbox doesn't stick. You can check that checkbox all day, but the user is never changed over to an administrator. I have checked the checkbox, and then done like the subsequent popup tells me: I have logged off and logged back on as the affected user, but it's as if no change were made. The user is still just a "standard" user. It is never granted administrator access.

MP3 volumes low in iTunes after bounce from master

I know this is an old question but I am still baffled by this. When I bounce an mp3 from my mastered file It sounds great if I run it from my mac desktop. Drag it into iTunes and the volume cuts in half - at least. To make a test, I took my WAV master into Audacity and boosted and clipped the waveform until it was completely black and distorted beyond recognition - in other words completely maxed out the volume. When I exported that to an MP3 and dragged it onto itunes I got the same result. The volume was cut off at the knees. So I am not convinced this has anything to do with, gain, limiting, mastering etc. I think it has to do with iTunes. Has anyone figured this out? When I put my song up for sale I don't want it at less than half the volume of the competition.

I'm not directly familiar with exporting to iTunes. After you've exported the track to iTunes as an MP3, what does the actual MP3 itself look like in Audacity? If the volume is halved, then clearly the trick is to not export directly to iTunes, bounce your mix to a WAV or AIFF file and let iTunes do the importing and conversion.
But when you say 'put your song up for sale', via what outlet? The reason I ask, you shouldn't really bounce down straight to MP3 if you intend selling your wares. Bounce down to the highest-quality lossless format available, so that's generally AIFF, WAV, FLAC and ALAC, and let the digital distributors deal with the conversion. If you upload your tracks as MP3s then the quality of the MP3s potentially becomes the limiting factor should the distributors you're using decide to offer lossless downloads in the future, because you can't get back what's already been lost.

USB Audio Distortion After 10.4.6 Update

Have been using an Edirol UA-1D USB/Digital Audio interface with my Pismo for years. Optical connection for audio out to digital 8 track unit. Crystal clear signal. Painless operation. And NO drivers needed.
Updated from 10.4.5 to .6, and instantly I'm hearing a considerable and disturbing amount of distortion in the audio. It's not volume dependent or overmodulation (comes through even at low input levels). And it comes through iTunes, Reason, LIVE, etc... where it didn't before.
Since the Edirol unit uses built-in Core Audio, I'm baffled. I know Apple has been endlessly tweaking its OSX USB/Digital audio underpinnings, but I fear this latest tweak has knocked something out of alignment.
Any suggestions?
I zapped PRAM, "repaired" permissions, etc. No luck yet.
Would appreciate any insight.

I have been having similar problems with my (much less fancy) USB speakers, intermittently, since the 10.4.6 update (PowerBook). From another post I made elsewhere:
I have Altec-Lansing XT1 USB speakers. They're connected to the PowerBook via a USB KVM, to an ADC, to the speakers.
For the last week or so (it started soon after 10.4.6 upgrade), an odd temporary sound distortion has been occurring. As the original poster mentioned, it sounds for the life of me as if the speakers are blown.
For anywhere from a few moments (several seconds) or longer, the sound output will become distorted in this way. Then, often of its own accord, things will go back to normal. If I want to get them back to normal more quickly, I can mute and unmute (I use a Logitech keyboard with a mute button, or sometimes I hit the Griffin Powermate which defaults to mute, and occasionally I even hit the sound control on the menu bar). When it's unmuted, it comes back undistorted.
Hence, this phenomenon seems to me to likely be software-related.
I almost always use the PowerBook closed and hooked up to an ACD. Lest you think this is particular to this set up: I have another identical ACD & speakers at the office (indeed, even the same keyboard), with the main difference being the lack of the USB KVM switch being left out. The problem happens there as well.
I welcome any thoughts.

Audio skipping distortions after upgrading to iTunes 7.5

Since I downloaded iTunes 7.5 all of my audio on my laptop has random distortions in it (sounds exactly like a prcessor glitch but isnt caused by that). It isn't corrected when I play media through other programs leading me to think that it wasnt iTunes at first. But after many hours of trying to see what else it could be (and that fact that this happened just after I had upgraded to itunes 7.5) I'm now sure that it must be the new iTunes.I found that if i converted my music to ACC through iTunes then it played correctly but this doesnt solve it messing up the sound on my DVD or windows media player and I can't convert any songs purchased through the music store.
(Have checked it's not my soundcard or CPU usage that's the problem)
Any suggestions?

I had the same horrible skipping problem. Here's what I did to correct it. You need to get itunes ver 6.0.5. My problem started when I upgraded to ver 7 and every version thereafter. First, backup your iTunes library of purchased songs. Get rid of all traces of iTunes ver 7 installation off your hard drive. Install iTunes ver 6.0.5 - then import your iTunes music (I found I had to also delete the two small library files that were created by the later versions of iTunes to be able to import and create the library for ver 6.0.5). After creating the library, all my purchased iTunes songs then appeared in iTunes. The first time I clicked on a song to play it a pop-up window appeared asking to authorize the song on this machine(my PC). I used the same ID and password that I always had used to purchase the iTunes originally. Then everything was great again. It took me a long time to figure out that an earlier version (pre ver 7) was the fix. By the way, prior to doing all the above, I had just re-installed WinXP on a blank hard drive. Hope this works for you - if it does don't ever click yes when the pop-up shows up in iTunes saying that a newer version is available.

XBMC: HDMI audio starts out OK, then gets distorted after few minutes

I have posted about this on the XBMC forums, but one of the developers kindly informed me that they do not support XBMC on Arch Linux in any way, so I should take my queries elsewhere. I am hoping that someone here might be able to shed some light on my issue.
I am trying to use XBMC 13.1 (xbmc-13.1-2) with Samsung EH5300 32" Smart TV (2013 model) over HDMI connection. The HTPC computer is AMD-based (AMD A4-5300 APU, which includes Radeon HD 7480D GPU), and runs an up-to-date Arch Linux (last full system upgrade on 2014-06-26). I am using the open source "radeon" driver (xf86-video-ati-1:7.3.0-1). Everything has been great except the sound:
The sound starts out fine, but a few minutes later it begins to get distorted. At first it sounds like reverb affecting voice only, but with time the distortion increases until it sounds kind of cued TV noise. If I restart the video, the sound works again for a while. If I change options in Settings -> System -> Audio Output, like the number of channels or pass-through, the sound is again good for a little while. If I enable or disable "Stereo Upmix" or change audio stream from the "Audio - Settings" dialogue window available during video playback, it too seems to "reset" the sound to sounding normal for a while.
Has anyone seen something like this?
I have tried different videos, and it seems like HD videos are affected more than SD videos, starting with distortions only a few minutes in (except the one Xvid video, which was fine for 15 minutes). Some SD videos are completely fine, some start having distortion issues only after 20 minutes or so. Judging from video information, if the video uses 5.1 channels (all HD videos fall in this category), it definitely gets distorted; if a video only uses 2.0 channels (like the SD videos), some are fine while others get distortion later on. I have "Number of channels" in Audio Output settings set to 2.0. Changing this (or any other audio settings) has not affected the distortion.
Following Arch Wiki: Radeon note about HDMI audio, I tried adding radeon.audio=1 to the kernel line; this did not solve the issue, just added some visual glitches.
In the XBMC debug log I posted, the distortions happen at around 17:26, though there is absolutely nothing logged at that time, even though I enabled "Verbose logging of AUDIO component" in the Debugging settings. The video I was playing there showed the following in the information window: 720 H.264 dts 5.1 16:9.
Any suggestions, ideas, or experiences would be appreciated. It definitely seems to be XBMC issue, since I was able to play the same HD video through mplayer without any problems (for at least half an hour, which would have already showed distortions several times through XBMC).

OK Imagine that Connection speed from your ISP is like an empty freeway. You can go full tilt (upto that road's speed limit)
Bandwidth is like a busy freeway where you only get to go as the bit you are in allows.
Reducing the Bandwidth in iChat or in the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab is like a vehicle that has a maximum speed that is slower than the speed possible on the freeway.
