Distortion after importing songs, same tune sounds WAY better in WMP!

At first I thought it was a hardware problem with one of our IPODs, but after transferring the tunes from one IPOD that died to another, and hearing the same problem, I have confirmed that the same song (Sufjan Stevens's "Flint") sounds terrible when played off the CD in ITunes (latest version)(very noticeable distortion, an AM radio sounds better), and also when imported, no matter what format ("AAC" supposedly being the "best"), while the very same song off the CD sounds great (noticeably louder at the same speaker volume level) and richer, with no distortion in the piano) when played in Windows Media Player. So what gives? I read that Apple brags about "CD quality" sound but nobody warned me it would be so hard to make a quality transfer of tunes from a CD to an IPod. Anyone else experienced a similar problem?

  • Barrel distortion after import (Aperture 3.5.1)

I've noticed before now that when I import any photos to Aperture, it applies some sort of automatic adjustment the first time the photo is viewed. It's usually just a slight thing, almost as though the contrast has been put up a little bit. It's something like a 'deepening' effect on the images. It isn't anything I've set (no preset or adjustments have been applied at this point), but it nevertheless affects every photo that I import.
I just got a 35mm f/1.8 lens for my Nikon, and started testing it out by shooting in raw (.NEF), just for the fun of it. When I imported the shots to Aperture, the same effect happened as before, only much more exaggerated; higher contrast, more saturation, and a certain amount of barrel distortion seems to have been applied. I don't know if this is Aperture attempting to reduce distortion that it detects, or what it might be doing, but it definitely is doing something to alter the photo. This lens has much less distortion than I was expecting, and in-camera it performs beautifully -- but after importing to Aperture the photos take on a weird look. This is particularly a problem when shooting in raw, while JPEG shots don't seem to be effected by distortion.
    Any help with this issue?
    Thanks!

What you are seeing is the difference between the in-camera raw processing and lens distortion correction, that is applied to the camera generated jpeg previews, and the naked raw files, that is Aperture presenting you.
When you first import a raw image, you will see the preview generated by the camera. This preview will show all incamera processing, including Nikon's  lens correction.  After loading the image, Aperture will replace the camera preview by a preview rendered from the raw.
Aperture does not do lens correction to correct any barrel distortion. If you are shooting raw, you will see the naked raw without any in-camera processing applied in Aperture.
If you want to profit from Nikon's in-camera processing, import the jpegs with the highest quality setting and not thr raw files. Or use lens-correction software like the Aperture plug-in PTLens.

    Thanks for reading!

    >also imported footage from one of my cameras and had the same problem
That would indicate you do not have a bandicam problem, you have a more general problem

  • Help!  Strange video distortion after importing film onto IPHONE.

So I used Compressor H.264 to create an .m4v file to play my film on an IPhone. For the most part it sounds and looks great. But in two separate spots this weird video distortion occurs in a part of the frame. It's like these large squares of video appear for a second or two, then disappear. The really strange part is that it's always in the same two spots. I tried re-compressing the file thinking it mignt be a problem in the pressing. Watching the files on my comp using Itunes or Quicktime player there is no distortion. But once the movie is synced onto the Iphone it's always the same result. Those wierd digital shifting cubes pop up at the exact same two spots. No matter how many times I re-compress. Any ideas? I'm at a loss and I gotta figure this out in the next few hours.

Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • Image distorted after import from FCP

I've been working on this project for some time now, and it's really frustrating.
I'm editing together footage from two cameras (A Canon XL1 and a Panasonic AG-DVC 7P) in Final Cut and then exporting that as a quicktime movie, bringing that into Motion to add titles and logos. When it's exported, burned to DVD and played on a TV, some shots look really terrible.
It's as if there are lines of distortion (like it's shaky, leaving traces of the image) on many of the quick shots, especially when it's a quick pan or tilt. It looks alright on the computer screen but turns to dookie on a TV.
Is there some problem with the scanning, interlaced or progressive setting? I could use a hand if anyone has seen this kind of problem before.
    Thanks a bunch,
    Matt
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.2GHz 1GB SDRAM

When doing the titles and logos are you doing them in motion and then importing them into FCP or did u bring the whole thing into motion at the end.
Also could be a problem with your burner.

  • Front row not responding after few songs

    OK.
    So here is my problem:
I turn front row on by pressing menu button on apple remote. I go to music, choose playlist (5-stars), shuffle and I do whetever I want, not using my computer, just listening to my music.
After few songs, I here sound but there is no interface in front row.
I see only a bar with song progress, there is no title, album cover... Nothing just this bar with progress.
After pressing menu button on apple remote, nothing happens, it can't shutdown front row, and the computer must be restarded by holding power button. I try Command Q, option comand Esc.... Nothing. I even press F8, F9, F10, to check if the keyboard is responding, that it adjusting keyboard backlit... No light (even it is dark and normaly it automatically turns on.
What can I do? 10.5.2, all updates installed, 2.2 Ghz MacBook Pro (With 4GB RAM), 128MB GRAPHICS.
The same was on 10.5.1, and with 2GB, I don't remember if I have tested it on 10.5.
Does anybody faces the same difficulties, does anybody have a solution? Tiger was so nice...
    Help.
    Chris

Figured I'd add my voice to the crowd. I am having the exact same problem. I usually use front row to listen to my podcasts, but the screen goes black somewhere between the 1-3 minute mark. It doesn't always do it, but if it does, it'll do it then.
One thing I noticed is that it ALWAYS happens whenever the cover flips from one side of the screen to the other. Is there a way to disable this option? The only way I can fix it right now is if I back out to the previous menu and let the song play over that. It's easy enough to do, but it's can be a bit of an annoyance if you want to adjust the volume or FF/rewind. I keep hoping that the new patches will fix such a glaring flaw, but they never seem to.

  • Importing songs from cd to iphone

After importing songs from cd's I can not get them to show on my iphone5 playlist, they only show up on the playlist on my computer at home.  I have tried syncing.  I do not have this issue if I purchase a song from itues...it goes directly to my phone's playslist.

    Hi sadielexus1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If your imported music never syncs to your iPhone, you may want to try un-checking and then re-checking the "Sync music" checkbox in iTunes by following the steps in the article below:

  • Multiple airport express plug-ins with i-tunes- lose sound after 4 songs

I have 3 airport express units, a MacBook and 24" IMAC G5 and my music library on a LaCie external hard drive. I have all the latest updates for the airport software on my computers. Now for the problem
I want to play my i-tunes library, it is over 500G in multiple locations throughout my house. I play from my I-Mac. All airport express connects to my linksys router network. I get inconsistent results when I play my music to multiple locations. After several songs play I have to go back to my computer and repress the speakers to play even though my imac shows the music playing I get no sound.
This could be because of a simple setting on my i-mac, I hope so. My energy savings for my screen goes off with inactivity after 15minutes. I changed that to an hour yesterday with no avail. I would love to have my music playing throughout my house on a consistent basis. Please help.

I forgot to also mention that I use the "interference robustness" feature on my IMAC. I have tried it both ways with the same unhappy results.

  • Why does my sound all distorted after upgrading to i OS 5

With i OS 4, my sound was fine.  With i OS 5, the sound quality is absolutley horrible.  The sound is all crackled and the bass is so distored my iPod is now unusable.  An iPod that can't be used for playing music: is this a marketing strategy to get me to buy another iPod, or is apple going to fix it?

    Hey!! I've got the solution.
this is some what a format problem.
if you see a aac file, it's not all the same aac format. there are, aac low complexity VBR, aac low complexity CBR, aac high-efficiency. the files are being corrupted are the aac high-efficiency. make sure you don't convert your file using aac HE or high-efficiency.
    to check if it's HE,
in itunes left click on a song and click "get info", go to "summary tab and it will appear on the right upper corner..
you'll have to delete the files with HE on the ios device, convert the original files to low complexity then load it again to your ios device.
I don't know why it sounds wrong only on iOS 5 though...
    hope it helps!!
I'm having the same problem, but my AAC files don't seem to sound nearly as bad as my MP3 files.  I'm using decent Sony headphones and the sound is really bad, much worse than before the upgrade.  As others have said, the bass is louder, but in a bad way (too boomy) and the midrange sounds distorted, scratchy, and over-compressed.  It's not as bad on my iPad as my iPhone 4, and the identical tracks, with the same headphones, sound fine on my iPod Classic, which of course didn't get the update.  Very annoying!  Several users have reported that the following "fix" takes care of the problem, so I'm trying it right now, but I have a lot of music and it takes a while to process all my tracks, so I can't guarantee anything:
    1.  Open iTunes
    2.  Select all your tracks
    3.  Select "get info" or the Windows equivalent
    4.  Choose the "options" tab
    5.  Move the volume slider up or down from its current setting
    6.  Allow the change to process
    7.  Repeat the procedure, but move the volume slider to "zero"
    8.  Synch your music
As I said, I cannot guarantee that it works, but others who have tried it say that it does.

  • My song sounds way different in itunes

I have made a million songs in garage band. Usually when I export them to itunes the sound fairly the same as they did in garage band. This time, though, I applied a compressor onto the master track and bumped the bass a lot and got it sounding really good. But when I export to itunes its sounds completely different in tunes. Way weaker as if I put no bass booster on the master track. How can I make it sound the same?
    any help would be good.
    Johnny

I believe he's suggesting you turn off the iTunes "enhancement" as well as Auto Normalize in GB Prefs. Your exports should sound the same as they do in GB.

Consistently receive the following message after importing serveral songs from CD into iTunes (latest ver 11.1.5.5)...
"Error occurred while converting the file 'songname'.  The required folder cannot be found."
CD/DVD ROM is no longer recognized until computer is restarted.

I have the same problem.  I recently moved my music from a Vista PC to a new Laptop with an external CD drive. It will copy one song from the CD and it will show in the Music file and then I get the message ' Error importing a CD - Folder not found'.  I must unplug the CD drive and plug it back in.  I have seen no fix for this problem.

  • Anyone notice distorted bass in songs after updating to iOS 5

I have a 4th gen Ipod Touch and just upgraded to iOS 5 today. When I play a song the bass sounds all distorted and rattles as if I am using incredibly cheap headphones or something when I am using good quality Bose headphones. I did not notice this in iOS 4. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, how did you fix it. I am thinking or resyincing and setting up my ipod as a "new ipod" to see if that works, but have to wait until after work.

Anyone notice color shifts in grades after updating to 1.5? There is a warning to this effect when you update legacy projects, has anyone experienced this, and if so, what kind of shifts were noticeable and how were they solved?
I'll see if I can hunt it down in the docs (a quick search didn't reveal the info) - but 1.x projects are not fully compatible with 1.5 and there may be unpredictable results.

  • Reducing song file size AFTER importing

I now realize that I should have used the iTunes preferences to set the import file type and the quality setting BEFORE importing songs. However, I now have over 170 songs in my iTunes library, and I would like to be able to reduce the file sizes for those songs. I will change the iTunes settings before importing any more songs, but I would like to be able to reduce the sizes of those files that I have already imported. Some of them are as large as 6 MB, while most of them are around 3 MB. Both are too big. Is there any way to take care of this problem? I am particularly concerned about those songs that I imported from the iTunes store after paying for them. Songs that I imported from my CDs can be done over, but I don't want lose the money that I have invested on those songs that I bought from iTunes.

Your answer reverses the usual order: it starts out with the bad news but then finishes with the good news...I think. I guess you're saying that nothing can be done with the songs I have purchased from iTunes. With them, I'm stuck with 3 MB for the usual 3-minute song. Well, so much for iTunes, then. I'll certainly never buy any more songs from them. That IS bad news. On the other hand, I think you're saying that I CAN convert songs I obtain from my CDs to smaller bundles. I used to do that quite routinely when I was in OS 9, but I'm not sure of how to do it now that I'm using OS 10.3.9. I hope it's not much more difficult, but I'll just have to see. Anyway, thanks for the information. Now I have to study OS 10 and the latest version of iTunes.

  • Sound trouble after import

After I import my video the sound on the clip is full of "static". If I do a fade in transition, that portion of the audio seems to fix itself, then, right back to static? I've tried extracting the audio but the problem remains. I've worked with iMovie for years and this is the first time I've had this problem. I am using iLife '06 now and can't seem to find a fix. I've imported various clips and the problem is still there. Can anyone help? Please? I hope so. Thanks in advance.

My camera is a bit old - 5 yrs or so but the audio sounds great through the preview window. So I doubt its the cable.....
I just tried Avid's Free DV and upon capture, it says audio is 32000KHz and not 48000KHz and adjusts settings for me. I imported a clip and it sounds fine so far on playback. I'd use this Avid program, but it's quite complicated. Can iMovie projects have different audio rates; I can't see any way to do that.....
I used to use Premiere 5 (on OS 9) and one of the project settings was audio rate and bit #. Such a thing in iMovie?
