Distortion Crackling Imported CD's

Hello,
On many of the songs I have recently imported there is distortion and crackling at louder volumes. I have listened to the songs on two pairs of headphone and in my car...all the same problem. I have been searching the discussions and internet, but cannot find some specific help. Its an ipod classic 80gb - color. Thank you for any input or advice you can lend.
S

I suggest the first thing you do is check what bit rate you are using for importing CDs, what bit rate the affected CDs are in and whether your older imported CDs are at a different bit rate. This will confirm if anything has changed.
In iTunes, go to *Edit/Preferences/General>Import Settings.* What do you see in the *Import Using* and Setting boxes? Once we know that, we can made a judgement on whether the current settings are okay.
Next, check one of the problem albums; are it's import settings the same as your current settings? (Highlight a song and click on *File/Get Info/Summary,* look for Kind and *Bit rate* information.)
Finally, check one of your previous imports that you think sound okay. Are the settings for that the same as your current settings?
If we rule out any problems here, it would suggest a computer problem, rather than iTunes, possibly the CD player or your sound card.

I am having a BAD distortion/crackling sound problem with my L305-S5968.  It occurs whether or not headphones/speakers are plugged in.
I have looked on the support page for the laptop and there was a bulletin from a couple years ago stating it was caused by the Atheros WiFi drivers....however I don't have Atheros drivers, and that bulletin was from before the laptop was even purchased.
The laptop has Realtek HD audio and Realtek WiFi and I have the most recent drivers (that I can fine at least).....PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hi, look at my post. I know that by reinstalling Windows 7, you'll speakers will work fine again. Don't know any other way. Sorry, but that's what you need to do.

  • Distortion/Crackling during Macromedia, avi, or mpeg playb

    Hello,
I have an SB Audigy 2 ZS. A few months ago, I began to notice a very loud distortion/crackling noise during playback of Macromedia flash, avi, or mpeg files. The distortion is present when using speakers or headphones, and only accompanies sound in the files (ie a silent period in the mpeg has no distortion/crackling). Mp3 and aac files work fine, as does audio from cds and dvds. The problem began around the same time that I struggled to install correct drivers for my new TV tuner card, so the TV tuner drivers may have caused the problem.
Since then, I have removed the TV tuner from my system and uninstalled all associtated drivers. I have also tried reinstalling the Audigy drivers numerous times, including a "cleansweep" reinstall. The distortion is present even during a clean boot of windows.
    Here's my system:

The next step will be a hard dri've format and windows reinstall, but I'd really like to avoid this. Can anyone give me some suggestions please?
    Thanks!

Maybe you need to install Dell bundled drivers for your card to get 00% compatibility 'back'.
    Also, maybe
    - updating/reinstalling directx, audio/video codecs, etc. common components
    - switching into another device driver mode (DS/MME/WDM/ASIO)
    - checking the audio HW acceleration and SRC quality settings (needs to be set MAX for best possible quality)
    - disabling devices/controllers not needed like Modem, onboard audio/game/MIDI, etc. (from BIOS)
    - trying some other settings w/ SATA controller

  • Audio distorted when import MXF files converted by XDCAM Transfer

I am new to CF Cards and mistakenly copied the clips inside my CONTENTS folder to my hard drive as a backup. These are shot on Canon XF100.
Now I realise you must always keep the clips in the CONTENTS  folder or else FCPX will not like it.
However I am trying to bring my clips back to life. I have used XDCAM Transfer and hey presto they look and sound beautiful.
FCPX does not agree. When I import them there is horrible sound distortion.
Anyone out there can help me?
I am looking at my old boxes of tapes with a degree of nostalgia...........

    That folder idea worked
    Good news
One of the folders still does the boucing progress bar thing
Boo ... have you checked to see that you have correctly renamed that folder BPAV (not BPVA or BPAV and a space or other slightly wrong variation)?

  • Photos distorted when imported in Leopard, yet ok in Tiger - why??

I use a Powermac G5 dual processor (non-intel), and find that any photos I import are distorted when viewed or printed. Yet if I boot from an external HD with OS X 10.4 those same photos are fine, and remain so even after restarting from the Powermac HD and viewing them within the external HD.. Reading some other posts it seems that OS X 10.5 may have been corrupted by an update at some point - any help or advice on this would be appreciated!

I would agree, I don't think it's an iphoto issue at all, I dont use that application to any great extent and regardless of the application used the photos are distorted.
I have tried a full re-install of OS X 10.5 but no change. I needed more disk space so have now got a larger HD to install, but I wonder if re-installing while preserving the user settings etc is part of the problem (which was the approach I took)? Im reluctant to do a fresh install mainly because I don't know what would be involved once the system is reinstalled!

  • Video distortion when importing MOV file into Premiere Pro

On my mac my premiere is having issues when I import .Mov files. I was shooting on my Canon 70D DSLR at 30frames and when I import files the playback breaks up and is distorted at various points. It doesn't seem like all the files are doing this only some of them have this problem when they are imported. The footage was all shot under the same settings in the same 3 hour period. I tried exporting files and the distortion is still present in the exported media file. I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like.

Interesting that it's on the same frames ... have you certain effects that would impact those more than others?
Also ... only 8Gb RAM, sounds like one internal that's pretty much stuffed, and footage on an external ... PrPro runs a ton of crap through both the CPU & the GPU (depending on what you're doing and how much it "likes" your GPU/Vram)  and also writes massive files to the database, media cache, and through the CPU use the OS's system cache typically. You've got a LOT of readin'/writin' going on, and with only 40Gb free there's not a lot of free space for things to be just parked for random access in a moment or two.
Also curious ... what's the connection to the external? USB2 or 3? Thunderbolt? eSATA?

  • PSD Layers Distorted when Imported

I'm working in an HDV 24p sequence in motion and am importing layered PSD files for the project... If I import the layers fully merged, they are coming in fine (which is of little use to me)... When I import the layered versions, the file appears to be distorted with the top and right side appearing as though someone took the image stretched it and streaked it... any insight?

It sounds as if the psds are too large for the capabilities of your gfx card. How large is the resolution of the pics? Try sizing them down in photoshop.

  • Barrel distortion after import (Aperture 3.5.1)

I've noticed before now that when I import any photos to Aperture, it applies some sort of automatic adjustment the first time the photo is viewed. It's usually just a slight thing, almost as though the contrast has been put up a little bit. It's something like a 'deepening' effect on the images. It isn't anything I've set (no preset or adjustments have been applied at this point), but it nevertheless affects every photo that I import.
I just got a 35mm f/1.8 lens for my Nikon, and started testing it out by shooting in raw (.NEF), just for the fun of it. When I imported the shots to Aperture, the same effect happened as before, only much more exaggerated; higher contrast, more saturation, and a certain amount of barrel distortion seems to have been applied. I don't know if this is Aperture attempting to reduce distortion that it detects, or what it might be doing, but it definitely is doing something to alter the photo. This lens has much less distortion than I was expecting, and in-camera it performs beautifully -- but after importing to Aperture the photos take on a weird look. This is particularly a problem when shooting in raw, while JPEG shots don't seem to be effected by distortion.
    Any help with this issue?
    Thanks!

What you are seeing is the difference between the in-camera raw processing and lens distortion correction, that is applied to the camera generated jpeg previews, and the naked raw files, that is Aperture presenting you.
When you first import a raw image, you will see the preview generated by the camera. This preview will show all incamera processing, including Nikon's  lens correction.  After loading the image, Aperture will replace the camera preview by a preview rendered from the raw.
Aperture does not do lens correction to correct any barrel distortion. If you are shooting raw, you will see the naked raw without any in-camera processing applied in Aperture.
If you want to profit from Nikon's in-camera processing, import the jpegs with the highest quality setting and not thr raw files. Or use lens-correction software like the Aperture plug-in PTLens.

  • How do you export a Premiere Pro screen shot without distortion when importing into Photoshop?

How can I take a screen shot in Premiere Pro (CS6 or CC) without it becoming distorted? Lately, when doing this, the images are elongated. Then, when I bring the image into Photoshop, it looks fine, except that the Pixel Aspect Ratio has been automatically engaged. I seem to not be able to do anything to the image to correct it and when saved, it goes back to its distorted form. What am I doing incorrectly? What is the fix for this? Is this a Premiere issue or a Photoshop issue? BTW, I posed the same question on the Photoshop forum. SIDE NOTE: I tried to resolve this via a chat session...that was an exercise in futility.
    Thanks!

The MTS files that I imported into my project are 1080i 29.97 fps, upper field first, 1.0 pixel aspect ratio.
I tried encoding an AVI with the Lagarith codec with these settings and had better results this time but the frame rate still stuttered.
I even tried making an MOV with the H.264 setting and had strange results.
I can make an H.264 MP4 at 1920x1080 with no problem.
What are the exact settings for an MOV or AVI just in case I missed something?  I really want to have an uncompressed file to archive that can be easily edited later on.  I'm thinking that MOV would be the most flexible format.

  • Distortion after importing to premiere

Hello I'm using a program called bandicam setup todo h.264, Recently whenever I import my footage to premiere its become very laggy and in the preview it shows signs of distortion.

    Thanks for reading!

    >also imported footage from one of my cameras and had the same problem
That would indicate you do not have a bandicam problem, you have a more general problem

  • Distortion after importing songs, same tune sounds WAY better in WMP!

At first I thought it was a hardware problem with one of our IPODs, but after transferring the tunes from one IPOD that died to another, and hearing the same problem, I have confirmed that the same song (Sufjan Stevens's "Flint") sounds terrible when played off the CD in ITunes (latest version)(very noticeable distortion, an AM radio sounds better), and also when imported, no matter what format ("AAC" supposedly being the "best"), while the very same song off the CD sounds great (noticeably louder at the same speaker volume level) and richer, with no distortion in the piano) when played in Windows Media Player. So what gives? I read that Apple brags about "CD quality" sound but nobody warned me it would be so hard to make a quality transfer of tunes from a CD to an IPod. Anyone else experienced a similar problem?

    Yes!
Exactly the same problem. Got a pair of expensive shure earphones, no eq settings and not excessive volume.
i ripped radiohead amnesiac at apple lossless(!) and there is a very noticable distortion on some tracks on my 5g ipod
    i really cant understand this

  • Sound Distortion/Crackling

    Pavilion Dv6-6146tx
    Windows 7 64-bit
Occasionally my sound will distort and have a slight crackling sound before a sound is played. This occasionally happens when opening applications but i have mainly noticed it when playing games. Sometimes the sound will drop out for a moment when this "crackling" or distortion is happening. This has been occurring ever since i bought the laptop. This happens with both the laptop speakers and headsets.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks

I just got the iPad 2 and noticed the speaker and headphone output is distorting on pretty much any volume level. It sounds like listening to a low bitrate encoding almost, where the highs get distorted and "scratchy" or "snowy" sounding. Hard to explain in words. The thing is I have tested this side by side with the first gen iPad and it's crystal clear at all volumes. It's like the amplifier or sound processor is sub par quality in the new iPad . I am hoping it's just mine and I can exchange it for another new working one. But I thought I would see if anyone else had this issue.
Again, the first gen iPad played the same tests back perfectly ( garage band, pandora, iTunes movies) but the iPad 2 had distortion on everything. Very noticeable in GarageBand when playing and holding high piano notes.
Also it happens with both the speaker and my high quality etymotic headphones.
I get "crackling" noise when playing some videos, at any volume.  It also seems to make crackling noise sometimes even when not playing anything.  Also, I get some distortion from the music if it has strong bass.
    I suspect the following:
1). iPad 2 may have poor quality hardware for audio. This is my guess, so don't quote me on it.
2). I see that you use Etymotic Research IEM (In-Ear Monitors). That's what I use. Keep in mind that these ear phones are extremely sensitive to high's, so any statics generated from the audio track will be "amplified" on the Etymotics. It will detect anything that's mid to high.
Bottom line?  I don't like cracking noise. It is bothersome.  But I think you returning the iPad2 would be a waste of time and effort. Try different pair of IEM, something that's designed for lows. And try other media source to see if you still get statics.  I have the similar problem with iPod Touch 4.

  • Help! Photoshop edited jpg color distorts when imported into Muse

Okay, so I am trying to build a photography webpage (among others) and I edit most of my photos in photoshop. All photos that I edit in photoshop and save to jpg, look great when printed, uploaded to facebook, etc. however when I import them into Adobe Muse for and put them on my webpage, the colors of the photos become desaturated and/or slightly distorted (so that they look dull). When I edit images in lightroom and save them as jpg and import them into Muse, they look fine, but colors edited in photoshop seem to mess up my photos when imported into Muse.
    What am I doing wrong?!
    Susan

You are using some odd color management settings and not converting to sRGB most likely... Check your settings in PS itself and the Save for Web dialog and experiment around.

  • Distortion / Crackles on Audigy 2 Platinum

    Hi all,
Yesterday my Audigy 2 Platinum eX soundcard arri'ved in the post. I'm impressed with the quality, however there is some distortion and "fuzzyness" at some frequencies which is very irritating.
I've tried altering the settings and resetting them to the default but nothing seems to work. At the start of the Kaiser Chief's song "Modern Way" some faint but noticable crackling can be heard. The problem is a lot worse on more complex songs such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Get On Top." On this track it sounds a lot more like distortion than crackling and it's not ignorable.
The problem is not with my speakers. I've tried it with my 5. surround sound, hi-fi speakers and headphones and the distortion can be heard on all of these at all volumes. I think I'm right in saying that this means the problem must be with the card, the card's driver or settings.
I'm running the latest drivers which I obtained from the Creative site.
Anyone else had similar problems or have any suggestions? I'm thinking about sending it back because I'm not very happy.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I have tried:
    - Using different PCI ports
    - Reseating PCI card
    - Reinstalling latest drivers from website
My onboard sound drivers have been uninstalled and the device has been disabled in the BIOS.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Image distorted after import from FCP

I've been working on this project for some time now, and it's really frustrating.
I'm editing together footage from two cameras (A Canon XL1 and a Panasonic AG-DVC 7P) in Final Cut and then exporting that as a quicktime movie, bringing that into Motion to add titles and logos. When it's exported, burned to DVD and played on a TV, some shots look really terrible.
It's as if there are lines of distortion (like it's shaky, leaving traces of the image) on many of the quick shots, especially when it's a quick pan or tilt. It looks alright on the computer screen but turns to dookie on a TV.
Is there some problem with the scanning, interlaced or progressive setting? I could use a hand if anyone has seen this kind of problem before.
    Thanks a bunch,
    Matt

When doing the titles and logos are you doing them in motion and then importing them into FCP or did u bring the whole thing into motion at the end.
Also could be a problem with your burner.
