Distortion when connecting iBook to Sony Projector

I have an iBook G4, 1Ghz, 10.4.11, 1.25GB RAM, Keynote '08
When I connect the iBook to any TV using composite, S-video, or 15-pin VGA I get a crystal clear picture. But when I use it at work with a Sony VPL-CX86 projector the picture is distorted on the screen. There is a slight distortion (scratch marks) using the 15-pin connection, and a terrible distortion (flowing lines of "noise") using composite and s-video.
I cant imagine that there is something wrong with the iBook since it works fine when connected to a TV, but Im wondering if there is? Or is there something I can do with the projector to fix the picture?
Thanks for any input!

OK... problem solved! But new questions arise.
I found that when my iBook was plugged in to the AC adapter, it created "noise" on the projector picture. But when I connect the iBook to the projector and use battery power, the picture is crystal clear. Weird, but now I know that something in the power supply causes the picture to distort... Now I just charge up the iBook before I need to use it.

  • Grey screen when connected to external monitor / projector

I have a 13" Macbook Pro  (OS 10.6.7, 2.4 GHz Intel, NVIDIA GeForce 320M) that is freezing up when connected to an external monitor or projector.  The monitor or projector works fine when initially connected, but after an hour or so of use, both screens will suddenly turn grey or black and the computer is totally unresponsive (the sleep light is not on).  I have to do a hard shut down using the power button. This problem only occures when connected to a monitor / projector.
This freeze up happens in various use cases; watching a movie, web surfing, editing docs, or even when i'm away from the computer, it seems entirely random.
I'm connecting to a Dell U2711 external monitor using a HDMI cable.  I've tried 3 different HDMI cables / adaptors, so I'm pretty sure it's not the cable that's the problem.  The problem also occures when connected to an Epson Powerlite HD 705 projector (again using HDMI)
I've called Applecare and run a Hardware Test (no issues found), I've also re-installed the operating system and ran all updates.  The problem still occures.
    Idea ideas on what's wrong?

Found the solution here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/152203/osx-10-10-yosmite-turn-off-macbo ok-pros-display-while-connect-to-external-moni
    In terminal:
    Enable: sudo nvram boot-args="niog=1"
To undo: sudo nvram -d boot-args
    This works brilliantly!
    Steps I use:
    1) After putting in the terminal command, reboot and close the lid immediately
    2) Keep the lid closed during boot up and once logged in, open the lid
    3) The MacBook Pro's screen is off

  • Why am I getting sound distortion when connecting iPad 2 to amplifier.

I am getting sound distortion when connecting iPad or iPod thru amplifier using AirPlay or 3.5mm to rca cables. Also the sound has far too much bass. No problems when connected in car.

It sounds like a mismatched impedence.  What are you connecting to?   the output from the jack is intended for headphones, and is not just an audio out.
Try turning the volume on the pad way down, and use the gain on your amp, and see if that minimizes the issue.
There is a pure audio signal for both channels on the 31 pin plug, but you would need a special cable to use it.  I would bet they are available if you google.  Although I have read that the 31 pin signal is not filtered like the headphone output, so while it is a pure audio output, there may be some noise in it that would need to be filtered.
Try google for a 31 pin cable.  ( the input for the car is probably built to take a signal from a headphone output, while your amp may be expecting a lower power signal)

  • Distortion when connecting to recie

    Hi,
When I connect my computer speaker to my audigy card, everything is fine. When I connect to my receiver to the line out of the audigy card, I get a lot of distortion. I try changing the speaker setting, for 2 speakers, to 4 speaker, to 5 speakers, and I still get alot of distortion. Can any one help. I will like to play sounds through my stereo, than through my small computer speakers. Thanks.

  • Connecting iBook G4 to projector

I want to connect an iBook G4 to an Epson projector. How do I do it? The projector has a blue multipin socket as standard and a plug in card, presumably for wireless networking. My Pogue manual does not mention projectors at all. I suspect I have to change the output from LCD screen to something else, but I can't find any way of doing this. Any help gratefully received

I can't believe this. This reply is actually in the manual, if I hadn't panicked at the sight of the connector! I am most grateful for the patient and factual manner of your reply. Best wishes, Terry

You may get faster service by reposting your query in the iBook G4 forums here:

The one you're in now is for the G4 mini-tower so the hardware is quite a bit different.

  • Colour distortion when running Keynote through data projector

I regularly hook my MacBook up to a data projector, using (I think) a DVI to VGA connector, without any problems; have recently found some problems with colour distortion, though, to the point of everything on the data projector display appearing in shades of blue. Running the attached PC through the data projector, everything was absolutely fine, so it seems to be a problem with my MacBook display settings? Any suggestions for a quick fix?
    Thanks!

When you bring up the monitors control panel, does it show on BOTH screens (internal and projector)? It should, and if you're not mirroring, ONLY change it on the projector. Make sure it matches the default for the projector. There no reason it shouldn't work, but that's the first place to check.

  • IPad 2 crashes when connected to an overhead projector

    Hi everyone,
I handle IT for the public library. We use an iPad 2 for many courses and programs.
Lately, any time we connect the iPad to our overhead projector via HDMI adapter (model A1388), the iPad crashes and needs to be completely rebooted in order to restore any functionality.
I'm currently upgrading to iOS 8.1, so hopefully that will have a beneficial impact, but thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions to share.
    Thoughts?

Be advised that there are reports of older hdmi cables not working in 8.0 and 8.0.2.  Don't know that status of 8.1.  If you run into this problem, you will need to try a new cable.

  • MBP freezes when connected to VGA projector

My MacBook Pro (15" 2.4Ghz SR, 4Gb) freezes when connected to a VGA projector, doesn't matter whether the DVI-VGA adapter is connected to cable first or last. Boot time while connected to the projector is also inordinately long. I have seen this happen a number of times specifically with other Santa Rosa MBPs.
I haven't called Apple yet on this and I suspect it will require a firmware update to fix; is this a known issue (and is it known to apple?)
    thanks

Just to update this thread with what I've posted elsewhere:
On my machine this problem only happens if the computer has been put to sleep before being connected to a projector. That is, put to sleep after being booted but before connection to the computer. It can be connected after booting without sleep. Once it has been successfully connected to a projector, it can be disconnected, put to sleep, awakened and reconnected with no problem.
I think that this "first sleep after boot" issue is what makes the occurrence of this problem so variable.
Some people just leave their computer on for long periods, only putting it to sleep when not using it. If they connected to a projector before putting it to sleep the first time they wouldn't see this problem.

  • Problems with Sony Projector

When I connect to a Sony Projector with the adapter DVI-VGA I can only see a small part of the screen
    Any Ideas?
    Adrian
Macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Likely the Sony projector has much lower resolution than the MBP's screen so I would expect the Sony to show less than the whole MBP screen. Drop the resolution on the MBP to 1024x768 and then hopefully the Sony can match that.

  • Cannot change display resolution when connected to external display

On my 2.0GHz 13" MacBook, I have no problem with the display resolution when connecting to external display/projector when I am running in Mac OS, everything work perfectly! But things start to get messy when I am running in Windows VISTA 32 (installed within the Boot Camp 2.1). Whenever I connect to any external display/projector via a MiniDisplay-to-VGA cable, the resolutions on both my MacBook LCD and external display/projector drop to 640x480. And i am not able increase the resolution in the Display Settings. Does this mean that I have not installed the latest version of display drivers? Or is it that Apple did not provide the VISTA 32 drivers (in Boot Camp 2.1) that is compatible with the Mini Display port.

    Cool!
I'm glad you have it fixed.

MBP Retina OS X Yosemite has distorted display when connected to Epson projector.  How do I fix this?

    Hello ATLawson,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that the display, after connecting to a projector, does not have the image quality you would expect. There may be a few different troubleshooting steps I would recommend in this situation. To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over and working through the information in the attached article.

You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek
