Distortion while using live instruments

I bought my macbook about 4 months ago. I recently got an ART usb interface to hook up to my mac. After a few minutes of recording a guitar I began to get what I would best describe as digital distortion. I closed GB, reopened it, and the sound was fine for about a minute before it started to distort again. I closed GB again, reopened it, and the same thing happened again. I could be wrong but I think the problem is in GB. Does anybody have any suggestions? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I am having the same problem, but with a Yamaha USB mixing studio MW10c.
Any live instruments is ok for the first one or two takes. After that, even in the middle
of the recording, the sound gets distorted. I have to quit GB and reopen it, then it behaves
ok for one or two takes.... very disapointed. Does anybody know if this could be a problem
with the MW10c? any help is welcome.

  • Browser crashing while using Live! Cam for Vista

    Hi,
I have Windows Vista and the Live Cam IM installed... I wanted to use the camera on a karaoke website but everytime the page tries to snap the camera I get an information that the browser has to be restarted und then it crashes. This happends with both - IE and Firefox. After this I get an information that video fx engine isn't working anymore. I already reinstalled the software more than one time but nothing is changing. Maybe someone has an idea what's the problem?!?

I tried it in the current Nightly build on Linux and can confirm that opening a message gives some connecting messages flashing on the tab, but for me it stops after a few seconds and doesn't crash.

  • Using Live Instrument (Guitar) : What Horsepower do I need?

    Hey all-
I currently use my guitars with GB2 through a firebox firewire connection and there's a definitely noticable lag (albeit slight) when compared to playing analog through my amps - in other words, a couple of miliseconds between strummed chord and sound output. This is because i am trying to do all of this through a 1.67 g4 powerbook with 2G RAM, which i am assuming is not enough horsepower. The problem is, not surprisingly, exacerbated by adding additional effects to the instrument track.
If i want to dedicate a machine to recording through GB2 or Logic Express, would a 2.1 G5 iMac be enough horsepower to eliminate this slight lag, or is that something that is going to require a PowerMac?
I'm also wondering what others are experiencing when playing through GB2 using their guitars and software effects (e.g., delay, etc.) and how their processor speeds affects the performance of LogicExp7/GB2.
    Thanks all!

Many of these devices have a switch named something like "Direct Monitoring", at least that is what is on my Tascam US-122. With that switch engaged, you hear your sound directly from the device, without any signal (in the headphones) coming from the computer, except for the tracks already recorded. That takes all latency out of the picture. The downside, is that if you are using the GB amp sims, then you won't hear them, or any effects. But they don't get recorded anyway. However, for me, I'd need to hear at least the amp sims to get the right feel for my guitar. For this reason, among other reasons, I mic my amp, rather than use the amp sims in GB, and get no latency at all.

  • Data not updated in the excel while using Live office

    Hi all,
I have a Trial balance Crystal report in BOE and have created a Live Office document connecting that report. Now I've imported that document to the Xcelsius environment.
In Xcelsius a Filter component having the YTD values as the Labels and its destination is bound to the cell having input to the Crystal report of the Live Office document. Now in the Preview mode when I change the select the year its corresponding data should be displayed in the Chart but unfortunately that's not that case. But when I change the year in Non Preview mode
    the data is getting updated.
    What could the error ?
    Thanks
    John

    Thanks Senthil, its working!!
But its taking lot of time for the data to get updated in the chart upon changing the year. Is there any way to speed up the process ?
    Thanks
    John

  • "undefined symbol" error while using a custom instrument driver

Hello all, I'm facing a problem related to instrument driver creation.
I want to pack a part of my code to a .FP to be able to reuse it in other applications of mine. This part of code includes calls to Windows API and a third party dll. I have included both windows.h and the include for the dll in the header file for the instrument. I developed the source code and next a little application that simply calls one function to test the result of my work, but I get some 'undefined symbol' errores while linking the test application with the instrument. The instrument header file is included in program source file.
    Situation is as follows:
I can run the test application if I include the source file for the instrument directly in the project (without loading the instrument)
I created a static library and can have the test program up and running if directly including the library in the project (again without the .fp file)
I get linker errors when trying to use the instrument I created based on the same code, both when including the instrument at source code level and when including at library level. Adding the .fp to the project makes no difference
Linker errors are all related to WinSDK and third-party dll functions.
Question is: where and how I have to declare the symbols apart including the appropriate .h files in the instrument header file?
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
My contributions to the Developer Zone Community
If I have helped you, why not giving me a kudos?

Being waited on to log on... how flattering
    I wish I had a simple and obvious solution, but I don't.
The problem in this case is that, whereas DLLs (via their import libraries) carry no additional build-time dependencies to their clients, that is not the case with object files and static libraries: any project that uses those .obj and .lib files must satisfy all of their dependencies when that project builds.
There is a mechanism, with .fp files, to advertise such dependencies to the clients of the .fp, and that is the auto-load list (Edit>>FP Auto-Load List, in the function tree editor). The caveat, however, is that these indirect dependencies must have a companion .fp that you can add to this list. And in your case, you don't have one. So the only solution I can think of is for you to create a very thin wrapper module where you would wrap all of the SDK functions that you need, then create a basic .fp for this wrapper -- you can do this semi-automatically, from the header file (Options>>Generate Function Tree) -- and then add this .fp to the auto-load list of your primary .fp. And then you'll probably have to create a second .fp wrapper for your other dependency (a non-SDK third-party DLL?).
Once you have declared the dependency chain for this .fp, you should then be able to use it on any test application and CVI should know to link in these additional static libraries whenever it builds the test application.
If you choose to go this route, you'll probably have to deal with a bunch of non-standard data types in the parameters of the SDK functions. I don't remember if these are automatically added to the .fp when you create it from the header file. If not, all you need to do is add them to the .fp  later (Options>>Data Types, from the function panel editor). Don't worry about providing the definitions for these data types. They're not necessary. You just need to make sure that their names are in the list.

  • Error while refreshing BO objects using live office

    Hi Forum,
We are getting below error while refreshing the data using Live Office plug-in on PPT.
“An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://........ This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server.”
This error comes in exact 5 minutes.
The server name used for web service is from a clustered environment. When the individual node is used Live office refresh works fine but while using the generic name refresh fails.
    Please provide your inputs.

    Hi Honed,
Take the backup of dsws.properties file and do the following changes:

  • Crackling and distortion from live instrument input?

I am super new at this so bear with me here. I just started using Logic Pro 8 on my 1 GHz PowerPC G4 with 640 MB RAM (Yes, it qualifies as an antique). I have the output of my 4-track running into a USB iMic for my guitar input. I know this isn't the ideal setup, but I have been using Garageband for a while now this way, and it works fine. The problem I have been having is although the guitar sounds fine for maybe 5-10 minutes...eventually I start hearing a little crackle. That crackle gets louder and louder, and within a minute the sound is all delayed and sounds like one of the bitcrusher effects from Garageband. If I go into preferences>audio>coreaudio and change the I/O buffer size (it doesn't seem to matter if I make it higher or lower) and click "apply changes", when the sound comes back it sounds fine again. I can't seem to find any pattern to this problem, sometimes it is fine for up to 20 minutes, and sometimes it starts happening a minute after I open a file. I've had the Activity Monitor open while using Logic and it doesn't seem to be eating up too much usage. Any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance.
    -Eric. G

    maybe it is your iMic
    A distinct possibility.
7 feet is pretty far. I think I only have a problem when the distance is an inch or two. The problem is easy enough to avoid, if I'm careful.
wouldn't I have to create an aggregate device take the input from the Built-In Audio and send it to the output of the iMic?
The idea would be to send audio into your computer via the audio input jack on your computer, and send audio out of your computer via the audio output jack on your computer (usually described as a headphone jack). So the iMic isn't used at all. Instead of using the iMic as an audio interface, you're using the audio interface that's built-in to your Mac.
So you would send audio from your 4-track to the Mac audio input. And you would send audio from your Mac audio output to your external powered speakers.
Most Macs have both audio in and out as a standard feature. But not all Macs; e.g., the original Mac Mini had no audio in.
Apple provides a good outline of this subject here: "How to Record an Electric Guitar on Your Mac."
Sorry to take up so much of your time
Feel free to ask more questions. The worst thing that can happen if I'm too busy to answer is that you'll have to wait for an answer. No one is holding a gun to my head requiring me to do this, so there's nothing for you to feel sorry about.

  • Animated GIF image gets distorted while playing.

    Hi,
I have some animated gif images which I need to show in a jLabel and a jTextPane. But some of these images are getting distorted while playing in the two components, though these images are playing properly in Internet Explorer. I am using the methods insertIcon() of jTextPane and setIcon() of jLabel to add or set the gif images in the two components. Can you please suggest any suitable idea of how I can get rid of this distortion? Thanks in advance.

In the code below is a self contained JComponent that paints a series of BufferedImages as an animation. You can pause the animation, and you specify the delay. It also has two static methods for loading all the frames from a File or a URL.
Feel free to add functionality to it, like the ability to display text or manipulate the animation. You may wan't the class to extend JLabel instead of JComponent. Just explore around with the painting. If you have any questions, then feel free to post.
The downside to working with an array of BufferedImages, though, is that they consume more memory then a single Toolkit gif image.

  • Error while using LabVIEW 8.2.1 Dll from Visual C++ 6.0

I am getting an error while using a LabVIEW 8.2.1 dll from Visual C++ 6.0 application. This is what I am doing:
    1) Created a dll using LabVIEW 8.2.1 (I used a tutorial from NI knowledge base: "Creating DLLs from 6.0i". It is a temperature conversion VI; input DegreeF and get DegreeC out). Instead of LabVIEW 6.0i, I used 8.2.1. It created the dll Convert_Temp.dll successfully.
    2) Then I created a Visual C++ 6.0 application (used a tutorial from NI knowledge base: "Calling a DLL from Microsoft Visual C++ that was Generated by LabVIEW 6i). I could build the project and create an executable application F_To_C.exe.
    3) Then copied the LabVIEW dll Convert_Temp.dll into the folder where F_To_C.exe resides. Using windows explorer, went into that folder, and executed the application.  I got the following error:
    System Error 998 while loading the LabVIEW run-time engine (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\8.2\lvrt.dll).
Convert_Temp requires a version 8.2.1 (or compatible) LabVIEW Run-Time Engine. Please contact the vendor of Convert_Temp to correct this problem.
    I checked the folder: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\8.2\. It has the file lvrt.dll.
So why am I getting this error?
    GKB

sounds like you need to install the LabVIEW 8.2.1 runtime. Not the 8.2 runtime engine.

  • Can't see post on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor

I can't see any post info on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor. The built-in monitor has been broken for some time and I've been using an external monitor via the vga port. Recently I had an issue with Windows and must now perform a system recovery. Whereas the built-in monitor does light up there is no portion that is viewable. It's damaged in a way that has everything totally distorted. I disconnected it hoping that the system would reroute directly to the external but unfortunately it didn't. I'm confident that my tinkering inside the laptop wasn't a factor since prior to disassembly the external monitor was never active until the system booted into Windows, plus I can reconnect the built-in monitor and it still lights up just as it did before.
Is there any known keystrokes to activate the external during post?...other than the F4 key

    Hello Kerdomrikman,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
In regards to your question on known keystrokes to activate external during post, there aren't any. The graphics won't switch to external until after the post.
What you can try, if your able to veiw the BIOS on the external you can run diagnostics from there.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

I think in your situation it would be worth trying the things listed under the event. It does have to do with FRS and it's easy to do. I've used it to fix journal errors after a server unexpectedly restarts and sysvol stops replicating.  I
could see where it could fix your issue, and if it doesn't, you're out 5 minutes. :)
The listed registry key does not exist
    Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    Click down the key path:
       "System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtFrs\Parameters"
Double click on the value name
       "Enable Journal Wrap Automatic Restore"

  • Question while using report /SAPAPO/SDORDER_DEL

    Hello all,
While using Report /SAPAPO/SDORDER_DEL and going through system documentation, I found that:
"Normally, the order data remains in the database (it is not deleted as in live Cache)."
From the above statement I am assuming that data gets deleted in live cache on a timely basis, Can someone please let me know how frequently the data gets deleted in live cache?
    Thanks for your time,
    Venkat.

    Hi Venkat,
There is no specific frequency for data getting deleted from the live cache.
It depend on the transactions which are taking place in R3 and APO.
For eg. Sales orders create a requirement in the R3 which is transferred to APO.
Now when this sales order is delivered, the requirements gets deleted from R3 and similarly from APO livecache. But this information does not get deleted from the APO database tables.
So this report is used to delete R3 document data that is no longer required in APO.
Cleaning of the database tables in APO leads to better performance.
So as a best practice, this report should be scheduled to run weekly.
