Distribute Spacing option

Photoshop's move tool have many distribute option, unfortunately, most of them are useless when dealing with layers of different dimensions:

It seems absurd to have to rely on DIY, like creating a small file that would be used for snapping, or third party scripts (*) to perform a basic function such as distribute objects with a consistant spacing between them.
This could be done in a JDI session (and should be an option visible all the time, the palette well is gone, show more options for discoverability's sake).
(* Even though Paul R. should be commended for all his efforts, the time and his graciousness... No, he should be hired by the team, so that most of his very useful scripts could be included in Photoshop!)

Illustrator CS4 - Distribute Spacing Auto option

I made regular use of the Auto setting of Distribute Spacing to equally space all objects between the end two objects. This option appears to have disappeared from CS4 - there is no Auto option available from the spacing box.
Is there an alternative method is equally distributing objects that is as simple as the previous option. I know that I could calculate the spacing I need manually, but it takes a bit longer to do

Doh! I could, of course, use the Distribute Objects tools! I had got so used to using the Distribute Spacing option that I had forgotten about this.

Distribute Spaces Option does not space evenly in CS6

Hi there!
I just stumbled upon this just now and want to know if I'm alone with this or other people also have this issue.
I'm working in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and neither the Distribute Spaces Option nor Distribute Object Option are working.
It doesn't seem to matter if it's a print or web document. Doing the same thing to the same document/graphics in CS5.1 works perfectly.

Does anybody know what is going on here?
Am I missing something?
Is this a bug? (Align center, right, left, etc works fine!)

Btw:
Copypasteing the correctly distributed objects from CS5.1 to CS6 works ok, and if i then repeat the Distribute spaces option nothing changes and it stays correctly distributed. (read: it doesn't badly distribute like before)

So I'm having this same issue too with Illustrator CS6 on Mac. It seems if I set the left most object flush to the edge of the art board then it doesn't distribute properly. I've tried aligning to objects and aligning to artboard as well as turning off and on the option for use preview bounds and what seems to be happening is that left object on the edge of the art board stays in place and the right most objects move. Toggling options on and off I was noticing that my right most object just kept inching more and more to the left as it was adjusting the space.
Now if I don't use the edge of the artboard for the left object it works just fine and my spacing distributes evenly. Very frustrating for setting up my files.
Has anyone figured out any solution to this issue?

Distribute spacing of text objects that are in a group doesn't work

Here's the scenario:
create a set of discreet text objects, say for a nav bar on a web site
put these in a group
open the align objects panel
set the "Align to" to "Selection"
attempt that the distribute spacing (or, in fact, any of the align panel options) doesn't seem to work. I have to ungroup the objects first.
If i choose Align to Artboard some of the options work.
Is this a ttwii (that's the way it is) or am i doing something wrong?

Yes ttwi.
Align & Distribute, aligns and distributes groups, not the elements within a group.
If this was the other way around trying to align logos/UPCs/illustrations would create a mess as these are usually groups of multiple elements.

Distribute Spacing shortcut or toolbar item?

I frequently use the distribute spacing function to space ads on a page. I know I could just leave the dialog box open but I hate having those things open because it blocks too much on screen (I have my widescreen monitor on it's edge to more accurately represent the format of a page.) Is there any way to put the distribute spacing tool on the toolbar? Even better yet, is there a keyboard shortcut or a way to assign one? I can't find one in the shortcuts menu.

Window > Object & Layout > Align shows Shift+F7 as the keystroke for the Align panel which also contains distribution options. In Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, you'll find it defined on the Window menu, where you can change or add other shortcuts. In Quick Apply (Cmd/Ctrl+Enter/Return, or Edit > Quick Apply, the shortest cut you can type to toggle the Align panel is ut>a.
Using the Control panel icons offers only a subset of align and distribute features, compared to those in the Align panel.

Distribute spacing value needs to be sticky

The Distribute Spacing value needs to remain sticky based on the last value I gave it. If I have previously distributed a series of objects to a set spacing value and then set it back to Auto prior to distributing another series of objects the value automatically switches back to the numerical value I gave it previously when I choose the key object. Illustrator needs to stop trying to think for me and just leave the value to what was last set, including and most importantly Auto. What's really annoying is that the change of value doesn't happen until you press the distribute button.

Distribute Spacing button in Toolbar?

Is it possible to add the Distribute Spacing buttons to the toolbar?

No, that's not possible. The default panles cannot be edited, you can only program your own as of CS4 using the CSXS classes provided for Flash (the panels use Flash's rendering engine).

PSE 6 Mac - Brush Spacing Option doesn't work

I just installed PSE 6 to my Mac. The Brush Spacing Option does not work. It will not allow me to enter a number into the space provided and does not have a cursor to drag. All of the options work like fade, hardness, and scatter. How do I make my spacing option work?

Do you have this problem with all brushes or just with some? Not every brush offers every option.

Text Format/Style/Spacing options

I am still working in iWork '09 to give Apple a chance to deal with the bugs and dropped features in the 2013 release. I'm giving the new Pages a test run now to see if it is ready for prime time.
I noticed a Lines popdown menu in the Spacing pane of the Style tab of the text Format inspector. The options (Lines / At Least / Exactly / Between) seem non-standard. Is there any documentation on them? I couldn't find anything in Pages Help.
Related questions, perhaps:
Apple seems to have revised its image placement options in new Pages. I presume this to make export to ePUB easier/more consistent/whatever, but that's guesswork on my part. Does anyone know of any paper where the features of the latest iWork releases are discussed, especially as concerns eBook production?

Lines is multiples of the largest object, character on the line of text. It is useful for varying size objects such as inline images, tables, textboxes and shapes. It can make individual line spacing vary within a paragraph.
At Least does what it says, sets a minimum line space but can go larger if required.
Exactly sets a fixed line space that does not change no matter what the size of anything on the line. This spaces a paragraph uniformly.
Between is the standard single spacing between lines plus or minus what you set here.

Hi, I realize that you can align objects in Photoshop, and that there are options to distribute horizontal and vertical centers, but how would I put an equal amount of space between objects like with the "Distribute Spacing" option in the illustrator align panel? Thanks!

Well there are other options you could try, but none are perfect really. You could spend some time and set a grid up that matches what you're looking for then align the objects with that. PS has a distribute spacing option, but it only creates equal spacing between objects based on the space you gave them. i.e. if you had 3 objects with a 3px and a 5px gap, it would make them both 4px gaps. It doesn't allow you to set actual space - that I know of.

Scale grouped image frames while maintaining internal margins

say i have a grid of images separated by 5 pts of white space between each image, is there a way to set up transformations so that as i scale the image group the internal spacing while remain consistant at 5 pts?
also question number 2: how to globally disable scaling of strokes, so that all my strokes are conistant.

As far as know - no, but you can scale your images all together and after that set distribution with Allign panel´s Distribute Spacing option, you may have to show that option from Allign panel´s menu...

With Distributed Installation option one can install separate SAP System Components such as Central Instance with Central Services Instance, Database Instance, etc. on separate hosts.
In ABAP+JAVA stack installation scenario, the installation variants will be consists of ABAP installation and the installation of the Java Add-In. That You can install on Single System which is having sufficient resource for the same.

Aligning and Distributing objects in InDesign

Hi,
I am using InDesign CS4. But I am having a trouble aligning objects. I know that in illustrator it is possible to align objects to a main object. For example, lets say I have several same square shapes on my page. I can make any one of the squares as the main object for others to get aligned or distributed to.
I wanted to do the same thing in InDesign but was never able to do that. I wonder if it is even possible to do that. InDesign doesn't seem to have that option. But it was such a handy tool.
Can you help me with the trick?

Thanks Peter Spier. I am sorry for the misleading information. You were right about the alignment and distribution tools. On my CS4, the Alignment option works with the locked object, but the Distribue Objects and Distribute with Set Space doesn't work with a locked object. I am trying to use the distribute with a set spacing around "the main object". In other words, it will make my work a lot easier if I first align an object at a certain point on the page and then use two other text frames on both sides of the object with an equal spacing (using the Distribute Spacing tool).

Even spacing of objects? (justification)

CS4
Given 4 objects of the same size/shape aligned on one row. The left object is aligned to where is is suppose to be on the left and the right object is aligned to where it is suppose to be on its right edge.
Now, how do I evenly space the other two objects between the left and right most objects? None of the distribution choices seem to do what I need.

In AI 12 (CS2), the Auto option in the dropdown field under Align palette | Distribute Spacing does what you want. I apologize if this works differently in AI 14 (CS4).
